You dont realise how incredibely lucky you are. you live some place with a scene. The closest city to me (Vancouver, half hour drive, 2 hour ferry) doesn't have a scene. If i want to go to a show I have to wait for someone decent to come to Vancouver and have an all ager. That happens maybe once a year that I find out about in time.

They're hardcore in the same sense that Shai Hulud is. Shai Hulud has asymmetric song structure and cool melodic metal riffs but they have breakdowns and it sounds hardcore. Snapcase has metal riffing but you can sense a large hardcore influence. They're one of those bands who do whatever they want so they'll have electronics, industrial, etc.

I'm doing my review for Rise Of New Reason and I have a few questions:
1. Is The Procedure an edge band? I know some of their lyrics focus around edge issues.
2. In the booklet for Thursday's Waiting, it says additional guitar was played by Frank. Perhaps I'm assuming too much, but is it possible that he is the Frank Fenimore, gutiarist of The Procedure? Perhaps Bill and him were friends at the time and he let him play on the album?

Yeah, I use the word emocore for most of those bands just because I have a lack of better word. Popcore is good, considering it's wrong to say emocore because bands like Finch and Vendetta Red don't really have emo in them.

No, it should be pogcore
Pop punk plus generic hardcore = pogcore.
Pogcore sounds like the hardcore I listened to back in 3rd grade when I rocked out at pogs with my cherry scented slammer and my skull emblazoned shredder.

I haven't gone to a show since August. It's not really hampering my life that much. You all should try this amazing thing called beer and poon. It's amazing and you don't need to be a rapper anymore to get it! There's this place called college where it's free and it's neat. I listen to loud music in my room by day, and get raucously drunk by night. I also do a lot of school work because I'm a nerd.

Eh, I'm not going to explain this very well but hardcore is associated with a lot of lifestyles and such (Straight Edge, Tough Guy, etc.). These "lifestyles" often spawn "crews," FSU being one of them. Unfortuantely, these crews often go around picking fights which is why you hear about a lot of violence happening at hardcore shows. An example is the lead singer of the hardcore band Terror, who was in FSU. This leads to a lot of FSU members often coming Terror shows and getting violent. Eh, that's what I can tell you from my knowledge. Someone else could probably give you a more detailed and straightforward definition.

Although they are called many different names, when the sandworms are referred to as SHAI-HULUD, it usually indicates the worm as on object of worship in Fremen (natives of Dune) superstitions.
I wish I could find a history for you guys, I looked really hard, I cant find enough info to write my own.

My heart bleeds the darkest blood

Shai Hulud are TERRIBLE. Seriously.
Those album titles crack me up, though. Looks like they're really trying to come over as intellectuals.
Mjt182, it wasn't directed at you, don't worry.

i didn't bother reading every reply, so i don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet.
your genre separation is pretty ****ed up. hoods, hatebreed and clenched fist are, in no way, metalcore. terror is way more metal than those, by far. and terror isn't even close to metalcore.
and if you're going to talk about grindcore, you have to separate it from grind. they're NOT one in the same. some examples of grind: napalm death, anal cunt(even though it was a joke band), cattle decapitation, agoraphobic nosebleed, etc. some examples of grindcore: converge, curl up and die, the red chord, bodies in the gears of the apparatus, ion dissonance, etc.
the rest is pretty accurate. just thought i'd point out those flaws.

You have a good point. Grindcore shouldnt really sound like grind, it should sound like hardcore mixed with grind. Which makes sense, a lot of those bands do have grind elements and hardcore elements in them.

Quick review of tonight's All Else Failed / Ed Gein show:
10 kids on the floor by the time AEF played. God, I hate SoCal kids sometimes. I was the only one that knew who they were and sang along, or moved for that matter. I was definitely that guy. Ed Gein at least got some decent reception. Kids better start listening to them by the time they come back next month with The Minor Times, or else...
I have to miss the show here. The Minor Times are a pretty good band from somewhere around here, I never saw them before though.

Shai Hulud rules.
FYI, they're not playing under that name anymore. They're playing under The Warmth of Red Blood.

Just to let you know the venue and time changed for the benefit show changed. Is there a different one that's called the Bloomsfield ave cafe or something?

That Shai Halud profile was pretty lame, go into more history and such. My PTW FA (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236911) rules all. I spent a stupidly long amount of time on that.

They say it is metalcore because of the drop tuning and the tone is metalcorish, but I still agree they are hardcore.

Some people say Hatebreed are hardcore, supposedly metallic hardcore. Then some people think that's the same thing as a metalcore, so whatever you want to think is fine, they're definately more hardcore then metal though.

I disagree. I think it should sound like punk vs. hardcore punk. Grind made more intense.

Cattle Decapitation are death/gore metal. Although they do have (had) some grind folk. Rob Astor is on drums, and Gabe Serbian used to play guitar up until the new album.

I see it as, grind is true grind, while grindcore is basically grind with hardcore influences.
Grindcore has longer songs. I guess daughters and all the other bands like them would be considered grindcore.
