Dillingers Escape Plan is not grindcore you n00b (whoever first made that is retarded), neither is death.
DEP are what I call mathcore.
Grind = Carcass, Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer
Also, I consider Alexisonfire screamo, although they are a light-version of it. They aren't "emocore" to me ebcause they aren't an emo band. at all.
My fave metalcore bands:
As I Lay Dying
All That Remains
Unearth
Heaven Shall Burn
Killswitch Engage
God Forbid (They are more thash than metalcore)
Lamb of God (They are more thash than metalcore)
Darkest Hour (They are more thash than metalcore)
Within Y (They are more melodic death metal than metalcore but meh)
What is The End considered? Math-metal? They are similer to DEP but alot more metal sounding rather thna hardcore sounding.

Wow that was so retarded I think you gave me cancer.
He meant that dep sound kind of grind, because their old stuff was really chaotic and grind influenced. They arent grind, but they dont really fit into any genre, and mathcore is a stupid genre.
If those bands you named are more trash than metalcore then why did you name them?

What would Bridge To Solace, A Petal Fallen, For Her I Can Be A Hero, Kite-Flying Society, The Icarus Line, Lickgoldrensky, The Kodan Armada, Morning Again, Blacklisted, Taken, Song Of Zarathustra, The Paper Chase, Bright Blue Calm, and Underminded be classified as?
(not that they're related, just that those are some bands I can't put my finger on)

Strung Out show, right? I don't know if you'll like Haste the Day, they're kind of an oddball on that tour. Metalcore with really poppy/rocky melodic parts. I like 'em, but I don't know what your tastes are like. If you like Strung Out, you'll probably really like Only Crime. Melodic punk a la Rise Against, Strung Out, blah blah blah. Aaron from Bane/Converge is in it, and there's a couple other guys in it from equally notable bands I'm forgetting.

So I got into a little debate with my friend. We've been looking to jam for a while now, and he has somehow fixed his sights on creating a grindcore band. Well, the first thing he did that made me mad was when I tried to explain to him how much work and technicality it takes to make grind. He ignored me basically and gave the "it's just randomly hitting the guitar, there's no skill involved." This then turned into a debate in which he claimed that grindcore is artsy (the bands that most frequently came up in the discussion were The Locust and The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, I don't know what sub genre of grind they fall under). He claims that it's looking into the mind of an insane person and that he doesn't think any sane person would go out on stage and play grind. I tried arguing that grind has very little to do with art and that it's usually blasts of noise and incoherent lyrics. The debate went on for a bit more and never really came to a conclusion. So I thought I'd bring up the question in here, is grind artsy?
capri sun junkie
11-07-2004, 01:44 PM

Strung Out show, right? I don't know if you'll like Haste the Day, they're kind of an oddball on that tour. Metalcore with really poppy/rocky melodic parts. I like 'em, but I don't know what your tastes are like. If you like Strung Out, you'll probably really like Only Crime. Melodic punk a la Rise Against, Strung Out, blah blah blah. Aaron from Bane/Converge is in it, and there's a couple other guys in it from equally notable bands I'm forgetting.
Cool, sounds fun, A Wilhelm Scream is also playing, I am so excited to see them.

Yeah, they really good. They play some hardcore shows sometimes here, it's weird. They're playing with Ensign this weekend, I can't wait to go.

Yeah, if you get their new cd, which is The Ups and Downs, which is a compilation of all their old stuff, b-sides, the usual, they have all the comments, and they talk a lot about how they used to be on hardcore compilations and play with hardcore bands, and they got a lot of crap for not being hardcore. but their old stuff, like the stuff that is on the ups and downs, is kind of hardcore, but still poppy. But now they are just plain pop-punk.

Of what I've heard of Saves The Day's old stuff it's just hardcore with pop-punk vocals.
This is judging by the two songs I have actually heard by Saves The Day. Actually only one of them sounds like a hardcore song. They're both on the same album 'Can't Slow Down'. The hardcore sounding one is 'Deciding'.

Yeah, that is definitely not hardcore. That is pretty much one of their mellowest songs. Uh, Maybe check out Rocks Tonic Juice Magic. The earliest album I have of them is Through Being Cool, I havnt been able to find Can't Slow Down and the other one

I'm going to upload a tab for Die Tonight by Comeback Kid soon. Could any of the other guitarists here check it out and tell me what they think?
