Stop going to Throwdown shows then. I goto a Champion show and you know who I see? Genuine kids doing things to have fun. I don't see what the big deal is with watching a band? I can watch a music video of some band strumming and holding a mic, but I won't get the same feeling if I try to two step to some band in my room while watching a video. Nor will I be able to do mad stage dives and sing alongs.

Uhh, dude, quit the tough guy facade, I hear yr mommy calling.

I don't know about you guys, but at shows I go to, when people are moshing, they get laughed at.
It looks stupid, it's pointless, you hurt other people, etc.
Sometimes I used to brin9 t3h mo5h back in the day, but I've just realised it's completely ****ing pointless.

Last time I looked, hardcore wasn't filled with bands who all sound the same (Like a ****e version of Youth of Today), kids who all look the same and bitches who hit each other for fun.

You DO sit at home. You don't hit anyone in a pit. No one gets laughed at in a pit (considering it's dancing is accepted in hardcore) and the point is to have fun...like I pointed out before. Oh, and Three G One have nothing to do with hardcore. Yes, they are big in the fashion scene. But no, not big in the hardcore scene. And you talk about Youth Of Today rips offs but listen to these avant-garde bands who all sound the same to me and quite a few others. You come in here talking about a scene you have no idea about.

They brought Judge, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today, In My Eyes, and so many more bands in. Oh and last time I checked, Swing Kids did nothing in hardcore. And you probably go to mainly emo/screamo shows, which would make sense. No one should mosh it up at something like A Day in Black and White or Hot Cross. Judging from your posts here, you don't go to many shows a la 100 Demons. There's nothing wrong with that, but you're judging an entirely seperate scene from your seperated point of views. Way to be egocentric.

It looks stupid, it's pointless, you hurt other people, etc.
Sometimes I used to brin9 t3h mo5h back in the day, but I've just realised it's completely ****ing pointless.

Someone outside this realm of underground music could say a band breaking down onstage is stupid and pointless. It's all about perspective you hypocrite/imbecile. Rarely do others get hurt. That's not the point of it, and if you go into a show with that kind of music, you're an idiot if you DON'T expect that kind of thing to happen. Stay at home and listen to your precious limited edition split 7" on clear vinyl if you want to be away from the scene and in the midst of the music in action. It is not completely pointless. Moshing, or dancing, fuels the band moreso than if everyone was just standing there. Even at emo shows, people still "dance" to a certain extent. It might not be quite moshing, but it's something that's done with the same intent and overall purpose as moshing at a hardcore show.

Last time I looked, hardcore wasn't filled with bands who all sound the same (Like a ****e version of Youth of Today), kids who all look the same and bitches who hit each other for fun.

You should bother looking beyond Atreyu shows and Alternative Press, dolt.

Kids that look the same... Yes.

"bitches who hit each other for fun"... just no. There's a reason they're not push pitting.

I never said Revelation did nothing for hardcore.
I merely stated they turned major and turned their backs on hardcore.

That girl who works for Revelation, what's her name again? Vigne Martinez or something?
She's awesome. She did Simba (Not sure if they're still going) and released the September 10". There are still good people working for Revelation, but most of the stuff they release is mainstream ****.
They also have pre-printed bar codes. What the ****?

Who the f.uck are Swing Kids? You have to realize that all you do here is piss everybody off. Your an obnoxious, pretentious emo elitist who should be off raiding a thrift store looking for a new scarf. Without major distribution, bands wouldn't be able to spread their message OR their music. Bands can't stay local forever, and they can still be DIY even if they do tours in Europe with the help and money of their label.

As for the MTVcore statement, when's the last time MTV ever played anything remotely related to hardcore? There's headbanger's ball, but it's not like we all learned about metal and hardcore from watching it. They usually play stuff like Atreyu anyway--I like Atreyu, so that's a different story.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is: LEAVE.

Hardcore.
Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot and has no idea what hardcore is (about). Those bands aren't hardcore, you have a warped perspective on this. When I listen to Pg99 I don't hear or visualize ideals and standards set by bands before them like Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits. They don't have the roots, and YES roots do matter in a genre.

"Regulator Watts is pretty blunt about the fact that they are, for better or worse, indicative of what goes on at Washington, DC's Dischord Records. Any way you slice it, this trio, which includes Alex Dunham from defunct Dischord luminary Hoover, fits perfectly into the DC hardcore mold. All the elements are there: the emphasis on rhythm, the technical proficiency and the bile-makes-right demeanor. But Regulator Watts is also part of a maturing process of sorts of the DC sound. Rather than incorporating the mosh-it-up structures of prior bands, Regulator Watts opts for the offbeat over the downbeat and mixes in a somewhat newfound appreciation for sparseness. It's not that they don't provide ample opportunity for the kids in the pit to air it out, there's just a bit more going on in the lulls. Joining in the free, all-ages fray are The Sort and Lefty's Deceiver."

I was lucky enough to see Still Life with Cursive...they just didn't have that kick to them though. But that show sounds amazing, I haven't heard of Shroomunion before, though.

Still Life are awesome guys.
Dave is super funny.

Yeah, the new album kinda sucks. They used to put up REALLY intense live shows.

Bigsby: Maybe things have changed alot in the last couple years with MTV interfering in the scene a bit (and fashionxcore), but we used to go to hardcore shows. Bands like Indian Summer played together with 'your type' of hardcore bands. Hell, they even played a show with Green Day.

Shroomunion are pretty good. Just sold their two 7"s, though. They also have a 10" and a track on the Eucalyptus 2 x 7" comp.
They did the first 7" on Inchworm and the second on Repercussion, which was the Indian Summer twin's label.

yeah ok, i kind of look fashioncore (minus the black hair, women's jeans, etc.), but i didn't copy anyone. i got into all the music i listen online, so it's not like i do it because all my friends do. in fact, i am definitely the only person i know who does it. i like the way it looks. also, i switch things up a bit: i have a dress code for school where i have to wear a jacket and tie every day (i've actually been doing so for the past 12 years). i also rock polo and collored shirts and all that good stuff.

anyway, the kids who hate fashioncore all wear black tshirts, army shorts or athletic shorts, and military hats--everything is a trend these days. i dress like that sometimes too...

Upon further listening... I really like the new Bury Your Dead... except for three things. These are their names: "Mission:Impossible", "Mission:Impossible II", and "Losin' It". For the uninitiated, at the last minute BYD threw out the original song titles and opted to replace them all with names of Tom Cruise movies. Now, its kind of a funny idea... but the thing is... "Mission: Impossible" = "Tuesday Night Fever", "Mission Impossible: II" = "So ****ing Blues", and worst of all "Losin' It" = "Mosh 'N Roll". It's not enough that the new versions are nowhere near as good as the originals, but the fact that they changed the names after they're already pretty well known (especially Mosh 'N Roll) was a terrible, terrible move. Eh.

Time for more of this thread's point.......EDUCATION!!!
I searched to see if psychobilly was done yet, and found people asking about bands such as Tiger Army, so I will go ahead and do it.

Psychobilly
Origins of psycobilly are as unknown as punk itself. It seems no one knows for sure, though common belief is that it began somewhere in Europe. But no one knows for sure, so don't quote me on that. So what is psycobilly to be exact? It is a mix of punk and good ol' 50's rockabilly. A lot of bands in the genre play mostly a faster version of rockabilly. More of the speed of fast punk. Makes sense right? Psychobilly isn't very well-known, however it does attract a large variety of fans. You have the punks, hardcores, greasers, and the class created by the music: psychos. As well as others, but the afore-mentioned make up the majority of the psychobilly fanbase. You could consider this a near direct throwback to the 50's, until you listen to some prime examples of psychobilly lyrics. Most speak of horror, death, demons, etc. They are pretty much the Misfits of Rockabilly. **On a side note, Misfits did release a psychobilly song entitled "American Nightmare."** Also, most psychobilly bands have a stand-up bass instead of a normal bass. This adds a unique effect and style to the music. There are only a few exceptions that do not have a stand-up bass. As there are only a few exceptions to the point I made about psychobilly's dark lyrics.

Good Psychobilly Bands:

Reverend Horton Heat
The Nekromantix
Tiger Army (most songs are exception to the lyrics statement)
Horrorpops
The Cramps (exception to the stand-up bass statement; in fact they have no bass player at all)
The Meteors
Batmobile
Mad Sin

So uh, you did read the part before "education", right? The part that says "hardcore/metalcore"?

However, other people made posts about crust, emo, grindcore, emocore, etc. So why not just make this a big education one instead of making multiple threads on different forms of music?

Because, the genres you listed are closely related to hardcore/metalcore.

Only one guy mentioned Tiger Army, psychobilly has really nothing to do with hardcore at all, but the ones you listed do. I think you'd be better off starting a seperate, similar thread. It was a good description and all, I'm just saying that it doesn't really belong here.

Ok, done deal, it is now a separate thread.

i don't understand how they are screamo, they sound similar to alexisonfire. except with more old-school hxc punk vocals.

I actually also don't understand how Hot Cross are screamo... They don't sound very chaotic at all to me and on the new EP there is barely any screaming...

They can go either way, emo or screamo. Cryonics or whatever is very chaotic and I love it.

Kids Like Us got signed to Eulogy and will be touring with The Warriors.

i was in ****ing shock when i read about that...cause c'mon, why would alabel known for its Black Metal bands start getting hardcore bands to sign with them....it's just not right....

Hot Cross have a lot of different stuff going on. I think of them as a screamo band at heart, but they definitely have their own thing going on. The Alexisonfire comparison was silly.

Everyone throws the term 'screamo' around way too much.
They have the adrenaline pumpin', of course, but they don't have any real true emotion going on on-stage.
Whoever denies that should go see a real emo band play.

My new Winamp skin is so pimp. Guns rule.

I was going to see The Deal tonight but I just didn't feel like it...I totally blew off this band that was giving me a ride. Oh well.

Next week:
Friday - Backyard-ish show with Adora, Betrayed, and some other local bands. There will be a lot of faggots and a lot of drama. FUN!
Saturday - The Warriors & With Or Without You in Anaheim. HALLOWEEN SHOW!

They're from my town. I do believe they practice a few blocks from me. Great band.

EDIT (after reading more of thread): I'm pretty sure they don't live in San Diego, Shane, unless they moved there recently. They're from Chino and I'm pretty sure at least a couple, if not all of the members, still live here.
