I can't get over how crap the writing team can be sometimes.

No one wants to see The Boogeyman, or any gimmick like that.

Jom
07-20-2005, 11:54 PM
The gimmick behind The Boogeyman is ridiculous in itself, too.

Apparently, in OVW, the writers made it sound like The Boogeyman attacked Marty Wright in his slumber, making him... THE BOOGEYMAN (DUN DUN DUN!).

She's in charge of Smackdown I think.

She is basically Paul Heyman's new business rival because she always tries to suppress his ideas and seems to want him off the creative team.

She's basically going to do what you'd expect Vince McMahon's daughter to do, and probably run the company alongside Jean-Paul Levesque when Vince passes the reigns.

Yeah, big news: WWE is dropping the Hassan character after GAB.

Source: rajah

According to Dave Meltzer, WWE has decided to drop the Muhammad Hassan angle and the character all together. This is all due to the recent bad feedback regarding the angle.

So it appears as he will not be on RAW or SmackDown. No word on what will be done with Hassan himself, from what we know, WWE still wants to employ him.

We hope to have more on this story later.

And:

Due to the unfortunate terrorist attacks in London on Thursday, July 7, which coincided with our pre-produced WWE SmackDown! program, UPN has asked us to be sensitive to the usage of the Arab-American character, Muhammad Hassan. We have agreed with UPN, and have not had the character on SmackDown! since that date. It is uncertain as to whether or not the WWE will continue with this character beyond this Sunday’s Pay-Per-View, The Great American Bash.

Wow.

Ever since the Attitude era's reign ended, WWE's product has gone downhill substantially, but the McMahons do just enough to keep people interested (ECW One Night Stand, for example).

The tag and cruiserweight divisions are stagnant, to say the least, and the Intercontinental and US titles are not as prestigious as they used to be.

The only belts that have any interest are the WWE championship and the World Heavyweight title. All the storylines surround the performers vying for those two titles. Everything else is either a) promos, or b) contests (Diva search, etc.).

Basically, WWE hires more talent than they can afford to put out, even with two (or four, if you could Heat and Velocity) shows.

Yeah, WWE always had a problem with hiring more talent than they could ever use, and it caused a lot of great wrestlers to go to waste i.e. Lance Storm. It always made me laugh that whenever they showed the backstage area they'd show a group of wrestlers who they couldn't fit any where else, like Funaki.

I can tolerate some of Fozzy's music and some of Cena's music, but I expect this to be the stereotypical twenty-minute waste-of-time fest that happens weekly on RAW.

Also, is Mark Henry going to be back soon? Not that I miss the guy (especially during his "Sexual Chocolate" days... oh God, Viscera vs. Sexual Chocolate: the first-ever big, black, sex-crazed men match), but I remember when he first tried coming back, he was training at OVW to come back to the WWE... he was running the ropes, and the top rope snapped and he fell and re-injured his quad, knocking him out of the WWE for another year or so, heh.

They wont say no to someone because of their size. Rey Mysterio is only 5ft something, Tazz is around 5"6', Zach Gowen only had one leg, so shape or size pretty much has nothing to do with it.
If there is nothing coming from the creative team, there is no need to keep a wrestler, its just a waste of money

Jeff Hardy was on drugs yeah, the WWE frowns on abuse of drugs, whether alcohol or otherwise.

Road Dogg Jesse James was let go as a result of drug addiction, for example.

Jeff Hardy was on drugs and tending to show up late for events, generally being unreliable, so the WWE let him go. He cleaned up his act a lot during his early time with TNA, showing up really early for events and so on.

#1 Contender's Match for the World Heavyweight Title

Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

Singles Match
Christian vs. Booker T

Six-Man Tag Match
bWo vs. The Mexicools

Bra & Panties Match:
Melina vs. Torrie Wilson, with Candice as guest referee

///

World Title
Batista (C) vs. JBL

Pick: Batista retains.

US Title
Orlando Jordan (C) vs. Chris Benoit

Pick: Benoit takes the strap, finally giving the US Title some prestige after Virgil's (er, Orlando's) borefest with the US title. Who Benoit would feud with is beyond me. Christian, maybe?

WWE Tag-Team Titles
MNM (C) vs. Road Warrior Animal and Heidenreich

Pick: this was over as soon as it was announced. He and Heidenreich will hit the Doomsday Device, but MNM will hit the snapshot and retain the titles. I don't envision Animal sticking around, considering they've promo'd out LOD's DVD already. I'll be absolutely shocked if Animal and Heidenreich win.

#1 Contender's Match for the World Heavyweight Title
Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan

Pick: I would go with Hassan winning with Orton interference if I didn't read WWE.com for news (and spoilers, obviously). With all this tension with Hassan and it being his last match, I expect Undertaker to take out both Hassan and Davairi (and have his druids take them out of the building, thus killing him off). I still expect an Orton appearence, though, and the requisite RKO.

The Law and Order: SVU Crossover Episode Match (credit: gaslight)
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

Pick: Mysterio wins again, yet this "feud" will carry on and on and on and on and on. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Eddie wins, but I still am sticking with Rey.

Singles Match
Christian vs. Booker T

Pick: This will be one of the better matches of the night. Christian wins with the Unprettier.

Six-Man Tag Match
bWo vs. The Mexicools

Pick: The Mexicools win. I'm not happy about it, but it would be a waste for the WWE to have them lose to bWo. Hollywood Nova will be the most active for bWo since he is more cruiser-like than Blue Meanie (the fat piece of crap that he is) and Stevie Richards.

Bra & Panties Match:
Melina vs. Torrie Wilson, with Candice as guest referee

Jom
07-24-2005, 01:33 PM
How did the writers destroy their careers?

They were pushing Hassan as this American-born wrestler who was prejudiced by fellow Americans because he was of Arab descent. Each week the two of them would cut a promo about how they're tired of being discriminated against, and they took a lot of heat (but in a good way, really, not like X-Pac heat).

Fast-forward to the July 7th show (the day of the London bombings).

Undertaker was facing Davairi in a one-on-one match. After Taker pinned Davairi, Hassan walked out from the gorilla position and began kneeling in prayer to Allah on TV. About ten seconds later, six wrestlers came running to the ring dressed up in camo pants and masks (obviously representing terrorists) and began to choke the Undertaker with piano wire (not unlike the infamous decapitations of American soldiers).

Afterwards, the six "terrorists" (five indie wrestlers and Val Venis) carried the fallen Davairi up in the air, as if he was a martyr. It was absolutely apprehensible because ALL OF THIS WAS BEING SHOWN ON TV AFTER A HORRIBLE EVENT HAD TAKEN PLACE EARLIER.

The only warning UPN gave was "Parental discretion is advised for tonight's show based on the London attacks from this morning."

UPN received a number of angry e-mails and phone calls, and they demanded that WWE get rid of the Hassan and Davairi characters. After brief deliberation, WWE obliged, saying that the two would NOT be shown on UPN anymore, and that Hassan's last appearance would be at Great American Bash.

So, to summarize, the writers build these two as Arab-Americans who feel that America is prejudiced. They aren't violent, but they were just vocal and received a lot of heat from fans for their promos.

And then the writers turn around and make them terrorists the day of the bombings. Since Vince carries the "Any publicity is good publicity" mantra, he let the angle run. Too bad he didn't foresee the negative backlash that happened.

In the UK and Australia, it was edited out. But in the US, it was shown.

Six-Man Tag Match

Jeff Hardy was on drugs yeah, the WWE frowns on abuse of drugs, whether alcohol or otherwise.

Road Dogg Jesse James was let go as a result of drug addiction, for example.

Jeff Hardy was on drugs and tending to show up late for events, generally being unreliable, so the WWE let him go. He cleaned up his act a lot during his early time with TNA, showing up really early for events and so on.

grandmaster sexay (brian lawler) was fired due to drug possession at the canadian border

Wow, so they have just un-intentionally shown the 'terrorist' attack on the Undertaker. And let me say...WTF? If Hassan wasnt there, we wouldnt have any of this trouble

Great American Bash results:

World Title
Batista (C) vs. JBL

Outcome: Batista "retains," yet JBL wins via DQ.

US Title
Orlando Jordan (C) vs. Chris Benoit

Outcome: Virgil wins after exposing the metal connectors that tie the ropes together.

WWE Tag-Team Titles
MNM (C) vs. Road Warrior Animal and Heidenreich

Outcome: new tag team champs. Yeah, you read that right. This is registering extremely high on my WTFometer.

#1 Contender's Match for the World Heavyweight Title
Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan

Outcome: Undertaker wins. He gives him a Last Ride through a hole in the stage, and the last image of Hassan is a bloodied back of the head.

The Law and Order: SVU Crossover Episode Match (credit: gaslight)
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

Outcome: Mysterio reverses Eddie after a Frog Splash for a quite roll-up pin.

Singles Match
Christian vs. Booker T

Outcome: Booker T wins.

Six-Man Tag Match
bWo vs. The Mexicools

Outcome: Mexicools win in a squash.

Bra & Panties Match:
Melina vs. Torrie Wilson, with Candice as guest referee

Outcome: Melina wins, but not before everyone getting stripped down to the B&P.

Of course, you may want to read up on spoilers for more information. As usual, I recommend John's recap on Rajah.

Well that sucks ***. So JBL is the WHC, we have to hear Eddie and Rey whine for another 4 weeks, Mexicools win, Animal is back, and this PPV wasn't really that great? Wow.

JBL isn't WHC. He won on a DQ. Titles can't change hands on a DQ, only on a submission or pinfall.

If that wasn't the case, then Shelton would be IC champ after Carlito counted himself out on RAW a week ago, right?

It sounds pretty average Smackdown fare but I ordered the replay on here in a few hours to see if there's any good spots.

I didn't think Animal/Heidenreich would win because I thought Animal was just a one week return kind of deal. Odd. Oh well, anything is better than MNM.

Sick sad world: Diva match being the second highest on the card.

Rofl at Hassan being killed off in a similar manner to how the Big Show took out Angle before his time off and wheel chair angle.

No Randy Orton.

Shame about Benoit not being a title holder, he's really one of the best they've got and I don't even understand why Orlando Jordan has a job with WWE. He's essentially the Carlito of Smackdown, and even used the exact same finishing spot that Carlito used on Benjamin.

I think that if its a title match, DQ should affect the match just like a pinfall or submission does.

gaslight
07-25-2005, 05:40 AM
Yeah, that would be fair, but the DQ loophole makes for some good/clever storyline additions.

I ordered it for my Foxtel, and come the time it should have started, nothing but a black screen.

Displeased.

P.s That sucks.

I'll just download it knowing they have my money and I'm not stealing for once .

I'm not sure, a heel turn would be weird for Batista considering how over he is at the moment.

I've seen most of the PPV, it wasn't too bad I s'pose.

Hassan being powerbombed through the stage was pretty cool, I seem to remember Big Show doing it to Kane on SmackDown! a few years ago though with a chokeslam.

It stays in The Pit because this thread was here long before the Sports forum (and Video Games and Movies forum, for that matter). This thread was here long before the inception of those forums, so it stays here.
