I've listened to one song, and I can already safely say that if there is any justice in the world, these guys will catch on very soon.
I'm putting them in the queue for one of my spotlights. There's a few other bands in front of them, but they will be on the list.

You know, they've been around for 15 years and they have released 5 albums since 1996. Recognition should have already come. They're well known in the underground though and their live performances are awesome. Jondur said they play in a club in front 60 people as if they were playing in front of 6000! The unfortunate thing about them is that they're americans and the US is not the ideal place for a heavy metal band.
Nothing would make me happier than seeing them in a future spotlight of yours :)

Amen...unless you're a "metalhead". One who listens to nothing but generic nu-metal and metalcore. I don't like people like that...
Otherwise, it's unbelievably hard to find decent cds at cd stores anymore...although the FYE near my grandma's house actually had a metal section of the store...with some decent stuff.

Amazon is too ****ing slow. I ordered two CDs there two weeks ago. I just got an order update from them saying they'll be shipped by the beginning of August. At least they make up for it by having every CD known to man.
Embarking on the quest of metal is very hard here in the US, unless you're into Slipknot and Korn.

 Trust me, I've tried. But for me, it wasn't so bad. In Frascati, I was standing next to this girl who had just gotten out of school. She sneezed, and I said "saude" (which means health in portuguese, it's what you say when someone sneezes). So she said "grazie" and starting talking to me in rapid Italian. Pretty funny. I didn't understand half of what she was saying, but I started speaking portuguese and she caught on. It wasn't so bad.

1. About the only place its spoken anymore is "the old country" where I've got osme relatives.

It's an auxiliary language invented in Eastern Europe about a century ago. The only place its spoken now is the Russo-Carpathian regions because so many areas there are polyglot. It 5x easier to learn than Spanish, and it's based on Latin, so it makes a convenient trade language for people who grow up in regions where 3 or more languages are equally common.

I'm not a fan of their old stuff at all.
Yeah, Blind Guardian started as Speed/Thrash, so they have the ground work for all the heavier genres laid out for them.
So, I was just relistening to the Suidakra album that Neuro uploaded. Man, these guys rock. Seriously. What a fantastic album, and it's based on the Celtic myths of the UK, which is a bonus.

I think it's about time bodom's genre got a real name, like extreme power metal or something. I think it's starting to get big enough. I'm a big fan of the genre, with my favorites being Bodom, Norther, and you can even argue that Wintersun is highly powermetal influenced. Skyfire and Imperanon are bands that have potential for the future, I think they will turn into something good.
Would you put Kalmah with these bands? I'd almost consider them melodic death, but you could argue it is extreme power metal like the others.

I automatically put Kalmah in the same area as I put Norther, Wintersun, Imperanon and Skyfire. The vocals might be a little different, but overall, I think they are pretty alike.
I think for Bodom's genre we should make up something. Like Reaper Metal or something. Pretty lame, but there you are.

I think Extreme Power Metal makes sense, and it's way easier to say than Power/speed with harsh vocals. Kalmah though has a much more dissonant sound than the others, and more blastbeats. It's hard to hear any upbeat powermetal melodies like in the others.

True, Extreme Power Metal sounds good. But I do think they have a little thrash (in their older stuff) and some melodeth in them.
Kalmah is different, but I don't think they are different enough to be considered entirely in another genre.

I actually like accents. It usually gives the music an added color. Glenn Danzig, Rolf Kasparek, Timo Kotipelto, Tarja Turunen, Nils Johansson, Joakim Broden... They all let their accents slip into their singing and it always sounds awesome.

The vocals are appropriate to the lyrical subjects. They give it a coarse edge, while still maintaining a belting theatrical tone that adds to the Wagner-ian feel of the songwriting.

I'll download it as soon as my modem stops being a bitch.
My namesake once referred to himself in the second novel as "His Infernal Slyness."
Nice epithet, but I'm afraid the British monarchy have yet to include that one in their honours and titles, so you'll have to be a lord or a sir. Unless you fancy a baronetcy or dukedom.

EDIT: Okay, I need to bump this thread to make a call out to the power metal community. On Sunday, I'm putting up the new Featured Genre thread on power metal.
The problem is that my modem is sitll being a bitch and won't stay uploaded long enough for me to make the necessary uploads. So I'm calling on all of you to help me out here. The thread goes up Sunday morning and I need you guys to deal with the uplaods for the sake of the community.
Here's the deal. Take first dibs one or two of the following bands below and upload two or more songs by them when the thread goes up in two days. First come, first serve. However if there are more bands you want to upload, feel free. These are merely the ones I feel need to be mentioned.
Blind Guardian - Stoic
Helloween
Stratovarius
Nightwish - Arucard
Rhapsody
Savatage
Manowar
Iced Earth
Children of Bodom - Arucard
As I said, call dibs on one are two of these. And if you have other bands you want to upload in addition, go for it.
As for Wuthering Heights, around Tuesday or Wednesday next week, I cna rip songs from the new CD to my brother's computer and upload from there. It will take a few days, but at least it will get done.

I take Blind Guardian but dont hate me if my computer dies. I'll try to upload some tomorrow morning and if I have problem I'll immediately post here so as there's time for someone else to take care of it. Is this ok? How many songs are supposed to upload?

Well, I don't know about prog...at least not in the way we know it. They certainly wrote a stellar concept album, but I don't think they're quite prog metal.
In all honesty, they're prog and power-metal sounding, but they sounded that way before those classifications even existed.

On the previous page, there's a list of bands that have to be covered. However, I also encourage the power metalheads around here to upload songs from other great power metal bands as well. Angra, Kamelot, Dungeon, Gamma Ray, Tarot, whatever you've got.
My modem is still too wonky to upload anything, so I need the help of the community.
On a side note, the Wuthering Heights thread is going to be a little late. Most of the sites I was using for info are down.

Hehe, I'll go for Kamelot, Tarot and whatever I can pick up on the previous page.
My contributions:
Kamelot (various songs)
Tarot (various songs)
Stratovarius (the entirity of Destiny, perhaps)
Manowar \m/ (most of the songs I uploaded in my FA)
Dream Evil (various songs)

On a side note, let's give each other ridiculously power metal names.
Steepike is Prince Alexi "Grimflame" Steerpike
Stoic is Sir [insert first name] ElvenKing
Lord Abortion is Duke Oliver Abortion (original!)
Rumboy is Boyd, Squire of Rumley
I can upload some Dungeon, Galloglass, Human Fortress, 3 Inches of Blood, Sonata Arctica and some Attacker for the thread if needed.
Galloglass pwns all. What's your favourite song, Lord Andrew Brummington of the Black Sabbath? Mine has to be Dragon's Revenge.
