temple of hate is especially epic.
Vocalist Doogie White and Yngwie Malmsteen have decided to part company after six and a half years together. Doogie joined Malmsteen's band in September 2001 and recorded two albums with the legendary Swedish guitarist: "Attack" (2002) and "Unleash the Fury" (2005).
"I had a long chat with Yngwie today and it is clear that he wants to move musically in a new direction," Doogie said in a statement that was released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today. "It's great news that he will be expanding on his undoubted talents both as a writer and guitarist. I just want to thank, publicly, Yngwie and the many band members past and present that I have worked with. It seems appropriate that we started our working relationship in South America in September 2001 and finished in South America in December 2007. Now, anyone need a singer??"
Although there has been no official announcement on the matter, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can reveal that White's **rumored** replacement in Malmsteen's band is none other than former JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH singer Tim "Ripper" Owens.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO

It depends on how you think about that statement.
It's kind of like mathematical induction: you say that you can always care less about something and if that's true, your lack of care towards something is immeasurable. Ex
"Hey, new Dragonfarts album out!"
"I could care less."
"So you don't care."
"Yeah, but I could care less."
"So you really don't care."
"Yeah, but I could care less."
"So you genuinely do not care."
"Yeah, but could care less."
...
But the limit of that statement is approaching negative infinity, so it's much easier to say "I couldn't care less" because that's where everything is headed anyway. I would graph it, but screw that.

There are 11 songs.
1. Epic orchestral intro
2. Progressive heavy song with acoustic break in middle
3. Traditional metal song
4. Judas Priest style song, that turns into Opeth halfway through
5. Epic ballad that turns into a riff fest
6. Thrasher
7. Trad metal song
8. Iced Earth tribute song
9. Thrasher
10. Judas Priest crossed with regular power metal

Teh epicz.
I'll try and put up a few more songs from The Scarlet Citadel (again, all midi sadly) tomorrow. I've been listening to a lot of Nightwish, Bal-Sagoth, and Alestorm lately. I'm hoping the influence doesn't turn into plagiarism.
I've tried experimenting with a few different things, so it breaks down like this:
1. Intro/Betrayal (starts with a major key march, goes into a gallop-fest with awesome solo)
2. The Scarlet Citadel (melancholy intro, defiant middle, dissonant, sinister outro)
3. A Prisoner (droning doom metal song with mid-tempo second half)
4. The Depths (weird time signature heavy on atmosphere and tension)
5. On Wings from Beyond (low-key instrumental with 8-finger tapping melodies)
6. King Conan Lives (dissonant high-speed riffing with blast beats and some slap bass in the second passage)
7. The Battle of Shamara (symphonic rousing battle epic)
And the non-story tracks break down like this:
1. Fire Wraith (doom metal dirge complete with church organ)
2. Infinite Serpents (mid-tempo metal with growled and clean vocals written entirely in harmonic minor)
3. Winter Wolf (chilly power metal with bitchin' solo)
4. Dark Heart of the Woods (mid-tempo power metal with multiple solos and spooky atmosphere and lyrics)

There's a couple samples on their MySpace right now. I'll report back shortly.
EDIT: I hate judging off of samples, but this could either really rule or really suck. The synths are much higher in the mix than ever before, and the vocals are much more heavily layered. It's slightly reminiscent of Rhapsody of Fire.
I hate it when the synths become overpowering, but I'll probably reserve the final judgement till April. I like Human Fortress and I enjoy Frank's vocal style, so I'll see how it goes.

Hehe, asking in the power metal thread for non-cheesy bands seems like an exercise in futility.
Sorry Cocaine, JMO.

Kamelot is cheesy in name, but I don't find them as over-cheestastic like Rhapsody or Hammerfall,

I do, Roy Khan is one of the most over-dramatic vocalists in the genre.
That's true, but I still find most power metal bands to be cheesy simply due to the style of music.

The subject matter lends itself to cheese, I don't think it's a bad thing. Then, with Manowar, I think they've earned the right to essentially become a parody of themselves.

Angra is really bland though.
For some reason Angra has always seemed very different to me from most other power metal bands. They can get pretty progressive when they step away from the normal power metal mold.

I just think Angra sound like a soulless studio band. It's like a bunch of session musicians given the chance to write together.

And **** you Manowar > everything else in this thread.
I've only heard Temple of Shadows, but on that album they seem to sacrifice melody for complexity. There aren't really too many Emerald Sword quality memorable vocal hooks. Just insane shred.

The Allfather, the Hanged God, the Lord of Men, is the supreme judge of heroic things. He has personally reviewed this post and determined that it is up to Valhalla's quality standards.
