Doesn't matter as long as it's a ridiculously high falsetto. Harmonizing with yourself is a positive as well.

PoetandthePendulum

Maybe having a ridiculously high falsetto, harmonizing yourself many a times, and adding a full orchestra.

That is epic right there.

English permeates everything these days, so such a band will be hard to find. Windir did a lot of their songs in Sognamål, a Norwegian dialect. Finntroll write in Old Swedish, which is 1337.

Finnish is almost entirely unrelated to those other languages, btw. It sounds totally different as well.

One thing you can do is type in a Google query like 'site:darklyrics.com mig' ('mig' means 'me' in several Scandinavian languages and almost unambiguously belongs to them) and then start evaluating the bands that come up. Shining are kind of gay IMO.

Other words you might use in a query like that are idk other personal pronouns like 'jag', 'jeg', 'mitt' etc. Really basic stuff.

ZapatoDiablo

I think Moonsorrow only sings in Finnish or some dialect thereof. Everyone already listens to them though. It's still pretty intense when the music breaks off and they'll just scream out some gnarly sounding line in Finnish.

Grumma

yo was wondering if someone could help me find this band. I remember them being mentioned on the forum before (possibly had their own thread for a lil while).
From memory they were power metal but with a more traditional metal sound.
They had 2 vocalists, one of which sung in a falsetto similar to Halford's on Painkiller (song) and the other had harsher vocals. From memory they were really cheesy as well.

If you can't figure what I'm on about don't stress too much lol

So, one of my quasi-metalhead friends is bringing a few of her friends to a Sonata Arctica show in Connecticut for her birthday. I wouldn't be too worried, but Sanctity is opening, and they're all like 5 feet tall, except for the metalhead one.

I fail to see how it's any worse than tattooing, piercing, and shaving one's hair in a socially unacceptable way.

Granted, there's a point where they stop looking at you and start looking at the weird thing you did to you head, but a forked beard isn't nearly as extravagant an 8-inch high orange mohawk.

Also, I'm a student of Mystery Method so I'm not in much of a position to criticize people for having a weird fashion sense.

I like to wear buttoned shirts (actually a dress shirt today) with jeans and I have short hair and a trimmed beard now. I don't look very metal at all, which is even more awesome because it emphasizes that my trve hedensk spirit is on the inside. I like violating stereotypes; people are often surprised to find out that a polite, reserved person such as myself is a metalhead, and an extreme metalhead at that.

Surtr

Haha I can fit it all.

Depends who I'm around, but in general I've found myself and ability to be liked by almost everyone, and have the ability to sway what someone thinks of me, regardless.

Example, this girl who I'm dating at the moment..She admitted to hating me before, like a lot, just because of what she'd heard of me being like and how I seemed to always be manipulating people.

And now we're dating and she's mad into me. So either she's trying to pull a "John Tucker Must Die" type move, or I'm pro, or I 'spose she could also be easily convinced.

But its amazing how easy people can misjudge you, your right.

Most people I think would assume I listen to almost purely Coldplay/Travis/Keane sorta' stuff and that in general I'm a very typical sorta' Prep.-ish sorta' guy (Well not Prep. but you know what I mean). But if they saw my bedroom..Well..I've got 4 Steel Helmets set up around my room and a steel neck guard along with one. A bow and 20 some arrows and also a Replica Typical Crusade style sword.

Hm, I don't really 'manipulate' people much, because I don't aim to be liked by everyone. I have changed some of my natural eccentric behaviors overtime at the behest of others, but for the most part I project my personality as it is. Reactions tend to fall into three categories:

immensely positive from the beginning - cool
initially distrustful, incredulous or hostile - I'll try to be nice for a grace period
permanently hostile - eh, whatever, **** you gice

Fortunately, most people I know fall into the first two groups.

I feel you, because my recent tendencies in music listening lean very heavily towards that ineffable quality of 'epic' that you know when you hear but can't define. That's a rather broad rubric though, isn't it? Example:

There's still nothing else that can take the place of the feeling of something truly epic. If I had power (I'm running on a generator for an hour or so) I'd watch LotR right now, just because of the music, and the general epicness of it all.

eh, they sounded mediocre to me. Most power metal does. The best power metal bands though smack that sense back into me on why it's my favorite genre.

Lost Horizon
Kamelot
Blind Guardian
Sonata Arctica
Dragonforce (pre-Inhuman Rampage...which was still decent)
Nightwish (pre-Century Child when they were power metal)
Rhapsody OF FIRE!!!!!

Those are the best power metal bands in my eyes.

Edit: I'm in the process of writing a Power Metal song, and I'm writing it all out (In Guitar Pro, just so I can make sure its sounds how I want when its put together) so I'll have the music to hand out to my army that I gather to play it, and maybe later tonight I'm going to upload the Audio (Its crappy midi stuff but it'll give you an idea) of the song, and you guys could perhaps throw suggestions and comments my way?

Alright guys, here's what I have so far. Its not to bad, all considered.

Just looking for any form of feedback on it, and I'd also like to point out that there are no vocals obviously since its Midi, but there eventually will be, so in the parts that sound like a Verse or Chorus, there'll be vocals there on the actual thing. Also the file is only openable in iTunes (Sorry gay I know) just 'cause its the easiest way for me to convert it from WMM which was massive.

Edit: Oh **** off, the page closed out. I may try to upload it in a few minutes, if I'm not so goddamn lazy.

atm I'm using WinDOS Vista (don't ask) but VideoLan Client plays your file.

That's pretty hot; it would help if the song had a title so I could paint something on the mind canvas to go along with it.

I imagined Rangers valiantly holding a keep in the North against a party of invaders ten times their number tbh

But no lies after I'm done that'd be unreal if you would do that. Also, on a side note, I've been thinking about buying a Synth. What're we talking for prices and whats a decent but fairly cheap one (I'm going into Uni. next year so).

well right now i have a Korg X5 with a JV-1080 synth module, i love it but if yuor budget was bigger than mine ($500) than you can probably get better, all depends on budget and if you want weighted/semi keys or a 88, 76, 61 keys etc...

either that or get a midi keyboard and get a program like Reason if you don't plan on touring and just use it for recording.

I'm a musical master lol. I'm a Percussionist to the extreme, my main instrument being Marimba or Timpani. I've long since given up pushing my kit playing as it just doesn't do it for me like a lot of other stuff does. Ok, few questions...Any chance there are some free Midi Programs, and how would I go about hooking a keyboard up to the program/my computer and all that. I have no idea about any of this so...Here I'll go check what the piece of crap keyboard is (Its my sisters that she's stopped using so I stole it lmao).

Yamaha PSR-275

Its definitely not a beautiful piece of work, but its a keyboard at the least. I've got a better much much better one here but it can't be used for that sorta' stuff and its just too big to be moving around any.

Also on the keyboard there IS a In - Midi - Out place.

well I myself just got into the software synth i haven't got my keyboard working on my Vista computer but the computer at school (mac) hooks up perfectly, if you have a mac then it's easy you just get a midi cable and a converter like this

then you open up a program (i got reason from a friend im sure you can get it by shadier means if your willing...im not sure of any free ones.

Just get Luca's solo stuff.

Half the tracks aren't so great, but the composition of it all is very nice. Plus, it's a little heavier and Russell really goes all out, even if he sounds a bit forced at times.

The Odyssey was boring. Get over it, it was dumbed down in favour of "heaviness" that they barely pulled off.

Tyler has roids, don't listen to him.

I find TDG and DWoT not as entertaining as the rest of their discography. And TiO too.

I haven't listen to TDG yet. On DwoT there's like the four first songs and The Divine wings of tragedy I really like. But I like DWoT more than V. I don't know I just don't find something catchy in V like in the others. As for TiO, it's a bit like V but better.

I've been listening to Dream Theater - Train of Thought this last two days. First time I ever listen to them.
This album is excellent. I personaly find the final song, In the Name of God, unbelievable. I was listening to it and thought : It's very good, but it misses something I can't say to be excellent and the last song make him excellent IMO.

Any thoughts?

I have it in my collection.

tbqh, I feel that The Magic of the Wizard's Dream is a better 'slow' song by them.

Ofc everything by Rhapsody is great.

Unfortunately, the album version does not so it's only Fabio Lione.

I prefer when he sings heroic material. The vibrato tenor sounds better when screaming about knights and dragons the like.

He sings backup on the version I've got, at least. I used to have the single version as well, but for some reason I deleted it.

Aside from the instrumentals of course, which kick ***.
