Lost Horizon, Galloglass, Dream Evil for a while, luckily Niklas and Peter saw the light.

The earlier stuff is Speed Metal if you're intersted in that.
But heaviest most agressive...probably Imaginations. Though, that one and Nightfall in Middle Earth are my favorites.
I'll get Nightfall later tonight then.

Bon Scott i liked, but Brian Johnson just goes too over the top for my taste
I like Brian Johnson more. He reminds me of Udo from Accept...only worse.
I like Udo's Accept vocals, but I think Bon Scott was better than Brian Johnson. But, nobody loves AC/DC's vocalists, it's just as Aussies we have a patriotic urge to plow through it anyway.
I can get the patriotic thing, but I've actually met people who love the vocals. Crazy, if you ask me.
That's somewhat bizarre, yes.
More people need to know about Skyhooks. The Aussie band that paved the way to international success for all other bands, and barely anyone knows of them.
You're right, I've never heard of Skyhooks. What are they like?
'70s classic rock, with bits of pop and punk thrown in. I'm sure you know the song Women In Uniform, famously covered by Iron Maiden. It's a Skyhooks original.
Ah, that was them? In that case, I have heard them, as I've heard both versions.

also it may just be me but the opening track sounds alot like wishmaster by nightwish, just at the start/bits of chorus

haha indeed here it is:
Take some venom and accept
That you won't see Nazareth
The rainbow leads you home
Warrior sent to milky way
UFO shooting gamma ray
A riot of destruction
Watch the rockbitch go down, vixen spread
When the priest killed a maiden in the metal church
Armored saints and warlocks watched the slaughter
Rage of the slayer forced the pretty maids
To kiss the Queen in crimson glory
You were born a motorhead
Bike's in flames you race ahead
U do the kansas rush
Racing with the motley crew
Annihilator chasing you
With guns and burning roses
Status quo has been reached, wasps unleashed
Take a skyride with me, then you'll see

So I just found the new Winters Bane, Redivivus. I've previously heard some of the Ripper-era stuff, and it was really good. Redivivus is just as good. It's just as good if not better than the Beyond Fear album.

Yup. The album entitled "Heart of a Killer"
He sounds really good. The band is a cross between Judas Priest and IE, so it fits his voice perfectly.

It's really good. Heart of a Killer is a concept album about a judge who receives a heart transplant. The heart formerly belonged to a serial killer.
Stormrider
10-05-2006, 05:56 PM
Heh. I'll look for that tonight. Or in the next few days atleast.
Good deal. I listened to both it and the new one, Redivivus, back to back earlier today.
That's a cool concept for an album.
I may check them out as well. Thanks for the tip.
No problem. Both albums are excellent, but my IE and JP fanboyism is forcing me to call Heart of a Killer the better album.

I was just reading up on Wuthering Heights (new album next week) and I saw Johansson also sings in Astral Doors. That was the band that opened for Blind Guardian last month for the European tour. I like Firewind better than Nightrage and of course Firewind is Gus G's band, Dream Evil is Fredrik Nordström's band (and Gus G. isn't on teh new album) So WHere does Mystic Prophecy fit in (Gus G was on 3 albums)?
I would put Mystic Prophecy in between Nightrage and Firewind.
That pecking order was based on my feelings on his leads and playing with each.

Redivivus is probably not going to be as good as HoaK. It's not a bad album, it just has this slight generic feel to it. Though i really liked a few of the songs on it.

What do you guys think of Lanfear? I'm reading the Wheel Of Time series and there is a character named Lanfear. So just for kicks I went out and did a good search on the name and it turns out there is a German prog/power metal band with that name. I just wondered if they're any good. 2 of their albums have very high reviews on M-A, but those can be hit or miss so I thought I'd get some opinions here before I tried to find anything by them.
