I want to go see Kamelot and Epica, but I have no way to get there...curse these stupid "have to drive when you're 16" laws. *grumble*
On the plus side, I finally got End Of An Era by Nightwish, after 6 days of downloading. It's been worth it so far...

Bah! Lucky bastard, I asked CD Plus down here if they could order it in for me but they couldnt find it on there computer dealie. I'd try and download it, but like you said, it'd probably take 6 days, and my computer crashes at least once a day, so I'd get nowhere fast.

Yeah, but the reverse is true for EVERY other Power Metal band in the world.
I'm not sure about that in other European countries, perhaps, but In England, Sonata Arctica don't play here, Children of Bodom don't play here, Iced Earth don't play here, Blind Guardian are doing one date here this year in London.
Ony Dragonforce could be described as playing in England with any regularity, or anywhere outside London, or a festival.
Edgy don't count, because they were only here because it was a tour WITH Dragonforce, same goes for Sabaton.

You really don't...Im not sure what it's like in other countries, but over here, the prices are astronomical, same as HMV for the most part.

There's this store that's called Archambault. Sells books, cd's DVD's, even has an instrument corner. Last the cd's were overpriced, but I went there yesterday, and saw lots of stuff I usually don't see at failry good prices.

Sure thing, I'll get you the X-Factor, it's purely awesome.
Really??? Don't get me wrong, 'Sign of the Cross' is one of Maiden's best songs. 'Fortunes of War', 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Look for the Truth' are also great songs but apart from that there really isn't anything to write home about.
Having said that, it's not as bad as the press would have you believe. I'd give it a 6 or 7/10
Lord Abortion
06-26-2006, 05:38 PM
The aftermath, fortunes of war, blood on the world's hands, the edge of Darkness...they're all up there with the best things they ever did write in my opinion...the dark tone, asking questions about real life...it's very introspective and I love it.

There used to be a Virgin Megastore here in Dallas, but they just went out of business. They had a decent selection and decent prices. It was about $18 for a cd, which I guess isn't TOO bad, but I'd still rather order online.

I quite like that book, however it spends too much time on hair metal, and has a curious definition of Power metal.
Defenders of the faith is my least favourite Priest album of the ones I have.
What ones do you have, Ollie?
I've started a playlist containing all the bands I got searching "Power Metal" in my winamp library. It's awesomeness, but some bands are missing, probably from being mislabelled. I'll have to do browsing and correcting genres.

British Steel, Stained Class, Defenders, Angel of retribution, Painkiller, Screaming for Vengence and Ram it down.
I see. My ranking of those albums:
Screaming For Vengeance, Ram It Down, Painkiller, Stained Class, Defenders, Angel Of Retribution, British Steel.
It's about midway, as you can see. Some really classic riffs, you know.

Wow, I didn't see British Steel being last there...It's my second behind Painkiller.
Apart from The Rage, Steeler and United, it's a brilliant album.
Painkiller though...One shot at Glory has to be up there in my "Best song ever" charts.
Yeah, but I liked the really raw edge the band had in their '80s. Not to say that all their albums were great: *cough* Turbo *cough*
British Steel is good, but it doesn't get all that much re-listening from me. It used to be my favourite too.
Slide Ram It Down up and down that list depending on how tolerant I am of the poorer songs.

British Steel, Stained Class, Defenders, Angel of retribution, Painkiller, Screaming for Vengence and Ram it down.
I rate them so:
Painkiller > Screaming For Vengeance > Stained Class > Ram It Down > British Steel > AOR
Deal With The Devil alone almost puts AOR above British Steel, though.
Pshhh, Hellrider and Judas Rising are the best off AoR.
I'll do all the ones I have.
Stained Class, Painkiller, Sad Wings, Defenders, Screaming, Ram it Down, Angel of Retribution, British Steel, Hellbent for Leather
Unleashed in the East would crush all of them though, if it was allowed.

But, yeah, I really don't see a difference in hearing the album now, or in a few months. The music is still the same, and it's still just as big of a surprise the first time you hear it, no matter when or how you do. Falconer music wise aren't cheesy at all. The vocals, though, are quite a bit high on the cheese factor. I love them though, they are so pompous and bombastic. The music is top notch (non cheesy) though, it's comprised of mainly former members of Mithotyn, if that gives you any hint as to how good it is.
Yeah, I probably would be put off a bit by the voice overs. I'd love to hear the songs, but I just wouldn't be able to fully enjoy them with the talking over them.

Could someone explain to me what 'For the Sake of Revenge' is by Sonata Arctica and what are all the different versions?
I know it has a dvd (the main reason I want to buy it) and a cd but what is the cd? From the song names it looks like it doesn't have any new songs, is it a greatest hits?
Also I was in HMV today and I saw it in a cd case with the cd and dvd but I go online and I see lots of different versions like Cd, Dvd, Dvd + Cd, Cd + Dvd. Are all of these the same? I want the version with cd and dvd so don't want to order a version and have just the cd turn up.
Sorry if there's a Sonata Arctica official thread and I didn't post in it, it's just the site is moving so slowly I couldn't get past the first page.
It's a live album. I only have the CD, but I'm fairly certain the DVD in any combination will be the same - the concert in full.

Hahaha RIVA THAT NEW AVATAR OWNS!
Thats kinda dumb because not only did Real player come in later, they are not even a band or the same thing. I mean so many people confused them.
Gosh its not like people go
"hey Rhapsody is coming"
"what the media player or the band?"
"Yes.......the media player you Fool!"

RealPlayer not only shouldn't have won the lawsuit, they also should have been forced to flog themselves. I really hate the "facts" they try to post in the info window when a song is playing.
"In the 80's, Rush wrote radio-friendly prog songs that required a calculator to decode. Also, they wore tights."
"AC/DC are more punk than punk, and more metal than metal. They rock!"
Other really bad ones have been disemboweled from my memory banks.
