I'm a fan of a load of more Popular Sci-Fi...haven't had chance to explore the genre much, really.

Dune is great.

Go read G.R.R. Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series, phenomenally written political/high fantasy.

Have you ever read anything by Steven Erikson (Malazen tale of the fallen)? Most people who like Martin can apreciate him too.

Powermetal and Fantasy go very wel together for me anyway (black metal too for some books).

Yeah, that's what I meant about Robert Jordan, hehe.

So then, I've decided that Therion's best album is Secret Of The Runes.
Oh noes!

I think their best album is "Theli" or "Lemuria" I really can't decide.

Have you heard their DM era?

Best Therion album for me also Secret of the runes seconded by Lemura or Vovin. I'm not to familiar with their dm days but from what I've heard I'm very glad they started making more symphonic material.

Vovin contains my favorite Therion song at the moment "The Rise Of Sodom And Gomorrah". I think Secret Of The Runes is also great....Asgard

Every Therion release is godly.

Iron Bars
05-13-2006, 09:42 AM
The rise of sodom and gomorrah was the first song they played when I saw them live so it has a special place just for that. What I like so much about Secret of the runes is that its so diverse.

Midgard makes the album for me.

Best Therion album for me also Secret of the runes seconded by Lemura or Vovin. I'm not to familiar with their dm days but from what I've heard I'm very glad they started making more symphonic material.

Well, John, the first three albums were sort of Death Metal, then with Lepaca Kliffoth they started becoming more symphonic, and their latest efforts are very much power metal.

I think Therion's DM era was really good my only complain have to be those vocals. ....Of Darkness is an amazing album.

NP: Therion - Uhtark Runa

Yes, it and Beyond Sanctorum are brilliant. Good song choice, Nick.

I'm still trying to figure out the movie. I swear I've seen it. Good song.

Indeed I am!

Oh noes!

I think their best album is "Theli" or "Lemuria" I really can't decide.

Have you heard their DM era?

Theli is quite good. Probably the first one that really draws people in.

Well, songs like The Wings Of The Hydra off of Lepaca Kliffoth have some great harsh vocals. But yeah, compared to a lot of death metal vocals, they aren't anything special.

no idea, you posted some songs of their a week or so ago, that singer(s)

There are two non-classical singers on the album, Sirius B, that I showed you. The only one you would have heard is the one that I like a bit better, actually. :p

I'm still a Lemuria fanboy. Typhon, An Arrow From The Sun...classics.

I'd rate Lemuria as maybe 3rd or 4th.

Thanks a lot. Actually, the two songs on myspace are quite misleading as far as mariachi influences go. The two other songs on the demo are more representative in that direction. Though the main ingredient will allways be heavy/US metal.

my lack of musical ability, if anyone needs a vocalist/lyricist, I'd be happy to, but I can't play the instruments, so I can't do it alone.

VOCAAALLIIISTT!!!:amaze:

If I send you lyrics and the song (I still need to write lyrics and rerecord parts of the song) would you be able to come up with a vocal line for it?

Yeah, It's like playing evil alignment on Baldur's gate.
I never got around to finishing that game :(

Go for it...I will give it my best.

Hahah, Matt, I love those games so much, but I just get pissed off at times and just kill people.

You should see the demo videos for Neverwinter Nights 2. Another video game where you can take battleaxe to someone's face is always welcome.

I liked the first one, kinda...I much preferred the party system from BG though. The whole "one hired hand at a time" thing wasn't too good on NWN.

BG2 = NWN in my book, though NWN2 will blow everything before it away. I don't much care about the one hired hands thing, as a few friends and I are buying it together and taking it online. Titan Quest looks pretty good too, though it's pretty much just a hack n slash with some RPG elements.

I've heard good things about NWN...I should pick it up eventually. Only problem is games always cost a lot more for Mac...

On the topic of this month's competition, I have a song called The Necropolis that's almost finished. I might be able to do vocals since my brother has a cheap microphone, but I'd need someone to do the guitar and bass parts.

I might be able to help you, provided it's not too difficult...

I think there's probably a few bands named that, too.

I wanted to name mine that, but it's too popular

Hell, you could always go with the classic "Necroscrotum".

The riffs aren't a problem. The solo get a little technical, and the bass work requires some skill.

Yeah, but my browser's giving me some problems. I'm going to try again after I reboot later tonight.

Thanks, though. It's really friggin' hard to find these albums.

Coolest thing happened today. I walked out of class to get a drink of water, and went into my friends music class. It was a substitute. When he saw me, he told me "nice shirt !" I was wearing my demons and wizards shirt. He had his guitar with him, he then played the beginning of Fiddler on the Green. So I start talking to him...turns out he's a Power Metal fanatic. Loves Rhapsody and Blind Guardian, and more stuff. It was pretty cool :)

He had his guitar, 2 other people had their Bass and guitar with them so yeah...

There are only three riffs for the bass and guitar in the song. There's an intro, verse, and chorus riff.

The tempo is 120 bpm, and the time is 4/4. I opted for something that wasn't too complex.

The verse bass riff is the most complex. Here's the tab:

G|----------------------|---------------------|
D|----------------------|---------------------|
A|--2-------------------|--2--------5---3-----|
E|-------000020003000--|------0000----------|

All notes on the A string are quarter notes. All notes on the E string are 16th notes.

Not being a bassist myself, I just sort of noodled until I found something that sounded good.

The intro bass line is just 4 bars with an open E whole note to each bar.

The chorus is a straight quarters beat with slap bass. I'll tab that out a little later.

My slap tone sucks, but I'll try to adjust it. It gets way too trebly.
