Question: I found a stratovarius track named guitar solo on p2p recently and thats exactly what it was...about a 2 or 3 minute track that consists of heavily delayed guitar with lots of shredding and maj7 sweeps...just a pretty good guitar solo...anyone have any idea what the track name is? much appreciated.

Titch, do you have Thunderstone - Tools of Destruction?
Yeah i do, its awesome.
i think im gonna order another one of their albums, a Fireball ministry one and...lost horizon's other album...or maybe some kind of Blind Guardian
EDIT: i have orderd
'a flame to the ground beneath' by lost horizon (after putting it off for many moths)
'The black Halo' by Kamelot
'suffer our pleasure' by Tarot (i wanted the shining black complilation aswell but the gits at amazon didnt have it  )
and finally 'Nightfall in middle Earth' by blind guardian (but just because it was mentioned above and i wanted to try some anyway)
suspect

So then. Therion's symphonic power metal releases. Who likes them?
I think they achieve what Nightwish and the other Nightwish clones failed to achieve.
I had Theli downloaded for a while but it never really caught me. I should give it another listen.

Theli was their crossover, it isn't the same style of power metal they display on their later efforts. I'll megaupload two of my favourite songs off Sirius B, my favourite album by them.

Yes. Therion give a totally new prespective to the song by making it darker and somehow doomier. Will upload soon \m/
Awesome. \m/ What do you think of those Therion songs?
Stoic
04-09-2006, 05:19 AM
Heh, weird for sure. I dont like the single operatic vocals (in the intros) at all but the choirs work fine. The Khlystic Evangelist is more down on earth and crunchy enough while Voyage of Gurdjief is more spacey and far from the metal standards. An interesting listen definitely but I'm not sure whether it has the potential to grow on me. You know what kind of stuff usually gets me hooked :p
Dom Ammad is a band from my city which sounds like Voyage of Gurdjief by the way: http://www.dolammad.com/?id=mp3
Awesome. I'll check them out. Yeah, I like them because they're more power metally than the others. What albums of Therion have you heard, Orestes? I'm fairly certain you'd like Beyond Sanctorum if you heard it.
Stoic
04-09-2006, 05:34 AM
I've heard Theli and random songs off other albums. Beyond Sanctorum is early Therion, when they used to play death metal, right? Haha, that was quite the change of direction :p
Yeah it is. Their first three are sort of death metal, then their next three are the turning point albums, then the latest 4 are their symphonic power metal releases. I've turned into a bloody fanboy of them though. :p
Wow. Dol Ammad is great.

Hey there. Haven't been posting in this thread in a while, but I've been reading.
I'm looking for something very specific and I'm hoping you can pinpoint me to what I need. I'm trying to find some more music that sounds very simliar in style, format, and aggression as the Kai-era of Helloween (Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys I/II) but not of the post-Kai era. I'm looking for songs simliar to Starlight, Gorgar, Dr Stein, Murderer, A Tale that Wasn't Right, Helloween. I have yet to find anything that's close enough. I'm picky about my power metal. Some just doesn't do it for me, but Helloween when Kai was in it is the most amazing stuff I've ever found.
Any help would be great. I've checked out most of the big name bands listed in this thread and other minor bands as well but nothing is what i'm looking for. If Helloween was so successful, then why aren't there more clones??
Thanks.

Indeed. I have Heavy Metal Fire by StormWarrior. I don't have their debut disc. i SOOO wanted the special edition release with the extra track (Featuring Kai!!) Heavy Metal Is the Law. I downloaded it, but haven't bought it, and since lost the mp3. They're close, but the vocals are very.... rough and yelly, unlike Michael Kiske and Kai.
Heavenly, also featuring Kai in some tracks, is very close too. BUt much like Freedom Call, they're.... boring. heh. I don't know how to describe it.
I looove Cryonic Temple's Blood, Guts, and Glory. The vocal lines are very simple though, giving the band a rather immature sound. Still, good stuff.
Still looking though for something a little more particular. Mmm. it's hard!
Wuthering Heights. I have not yet heard of them. I shall go listen!!
MetalStorm says this about Helloween:
Similar bands:
Blind Guardian
Gamma Ray
Wizard
Helloween fans also like:
Iron Maiden (145)
Blind Guardian (93)
Stratovarius (73)
Edguy (67)
Nightwish (64)
Wizard is AMAZING. I'm a huge Gamma Ray fan, and some BG (the older stuff), but not so much Stratovarious, Edguy or Nightwish. Though, Iron Savior is really sweet stuff. I should really look into getting more of their music.
My point is that I'm trying to find a lot of guitar work, flying double bass kicks, but not enough that it ends up sounding like DragonForce. I want fun lyrics, or serious lyrics, but the voice has to be melodic and sing songy, not growly or yelly. I'm very picky :) Nostradameus' older stuff fits the bill almost perfectly. And so does Dream Evil.

I'm on the Dream Evil. They're pretty sweet.
Galloglass are so bloody cool. Anybody who confesses to like either of their albums is automatically my friend. :)
I have yet to hear any Galloglass.

I still like you for your constant JP love
