Indeed. I use the .77 triangle shaped ones. They go pretty good.

I tried the stubbys but the always slip. :-\

Mate I recommed Dava picks. Very good, not cheap 1 buck a pick and they wear down fairly quick. But they are specaily mouled and all this bull and rubbish but ends up to be a great pick. I find a hard pick with ability to bend in the middle is what you want. Or something kinda soft. I find hard picks too hard to alt pick, gallop and sweep etc.

I saw quite a few Edguy albums in HMV today, including a live one.
They must have got some in sharp after the rapturous performance in Newcastle last month.
They just had Rocket ride and Hellfire club in when we were looking the last time, incidentally, just before the show.
I also saw the new Rhapsody live album, also looking awesome.

Dunno if you guys already talked about this or not, but there's some short clips from Blind Guardian's new ep out. So, I finally listened to Blind Guardian's brand new songs.

Skalds and Shadows is a nice and catchy balland, yet quite predictable and typical BG. It could have been one of these NIME preludes (sp?).

Fly indeed sounds like nothing they have done before. I would describe it like a mix of a less dark and more radio friendly IFTOS and of a non multi layered ANATO. I'm not disappointed but I dont want to slit by wrists from the excitement either. Time will tell, the point is that they're back.

Cover song, I dont care :-p

I got Edguy's 'theatre of salvation' album, and i have to say it is brilliant, not as good as hellfire club (but better than Rocket ride).

Does Mandrake (i think thats its name) share the same sort of style as TOS, if so i think i will get that next...or i will get their live album

Anyone here listen to Dark Moor? Only power metal band I know of from Spain. I just heard their cover of 'Halloween' from Helloween's Keeper I. I couldn't believe that a power metal classic like that could be covered so brilliantly. I won't say that it's better than the original but they have a much more polished sound.
I really like the vocalist and I heard that their later work has someone different, in fact I think it's an entirely different lineup other than the guitarist. Can anyone make comparisons? Should I run out and buy their latest or go for something with Elisa Martin on it?

People have been telling me about how great Hammerfall is. I own their latest album and think it's rather poor, but I've heard that their past releases are ace. Is this true? If so, which albums should I check out?
Hammerfall are pretty generic to me. They have a few great songs, Legacy of kings and Blood bound instantly spring forward, but I never really got into them much.

I have a feeling that there is a formula to get me to love a PM song.

1. There must be a catchy, sing along chorus. This must be repeated a fair bit. See: Dungeon-Lost in the light
2. This chorus should have repeated at least once without much or any instrumental backing at some part, (ideally the end) See: Dragonforce-heart of a dragon or Falconer- the clarion call.
3. When Played live, this chorus must be an audence-participation heaven- see Blind Guardian-Mirror Mirror, Nightfall, and most of their discography.

3. When Played live, this chorus must be an audence-participation heaven- see Blind Guardian. Period.

Their production sounds too computerized, the vocal lines are irritating and the songs which are pretty much typical/average prog are TERRIBLY forgettable :-\

They're really generic but they have some cool songs.

Pagan's Mind ranges from incredibly cool to an almost HammerFall level of generic metal.

I'd compete but I'm about to die. :p Seriously, I'm actually getting worried about this one, and that's unusual for me, considering how many I've gone through.

I saw it on the news, and I wondered whether this one was going to be coming your way.

Has anyone heard the single "Fly" from BG? This may be old news but I've been out of the loop for a while. Is it something that properly introduces what we hope will be a great new album from them?

Stoic

Absolutely not and I think most people in here agree. We've been slightly disappointed...

Thanks to Stoic sending it to me, I got another chance at listening to it. And even though its quite different, I still enjoy it.

So I gave "Fly" a first listen last night. "Different" was certainly the main word in my mind, but I actually really liked the song. I'm not putting any doubts on the new album. Listened to IFTOS this morning. I never tire of their stuff.
