Rumboy...it's a world wide conspiracy against you, the second link gave me a runtime error :( I didnt know you're still on 56k, it takes 50 mins to upload a song!

Anyway, I listened to the first song and I must say it's quite typical SA like euro power yet vey enjoyable as it has power and intensity (the lead guitar-key interaction owns!). Not bad at all, I'll certainly look for some more on their official site and/or soulseek :)

Yeah,it is very good. The original version of San Sebastian I think is better than the remake on "Silence". Wasn't "I Want Out" a Helloween song originally? Could be wrong, but it's a great cover nonetheless.
"Shy" is a nice little song, but I think Tony has some issues with members of the opposite sex. Women tend to get the ****ty end of the stick in his songs!

I Want Out was a Helloween cover, yes. They did a great job with it.

You guys underestimate us a bit. And don't listen to Shattered's "6 beers" claim :p .

A) A seasoned American drinker needs 16-20 to get steamed up.

B) Bud is goat piss. It's watery and tastes like trash. Believe it or not, there's plenty of American beers I'm sure you'd approve of. I myself enjoy a more hearty brew, so I drink a lot of red beers, lagers, and stouts. It's the average Sunday football game Bud drinkers that bring down the rep for the rest of us.

I should've also mentioned that the same applied to cases of the following -
-MGD
-Coors Banquet Beer
-Miller Light
-Ice House
One Yankee lager that wasn't too bad was Michelob, but that still gives a headache long before oblivion!
On a serious note, I have heard that there's loads of good Yank beer from the small micro breweries you have (I had some Boston Steam Beer once, and it was very good indeed) - trouble is, it's the nasty stuff from the evil Anheuser-Busch empire that's constantly pushed here. We get almost none of the good stuff :upset:
Plus the fact that lager-type beers in general are marketed directly at Teenagers, who are obviously more easily fooled than us old'uns about what a decent brew is.

Would that be Bodom?

The reason I don't like powermetal with clean vocals is actually a few things. First of all any form of major scale in anything I cannot stand. The scale alltogether makes me wanna hit myself, the cloesest I'll get is mixolydian mode (i.e. some Maiden liek Run to the Hills or Can I Play With Madness). Also, powermetal tends to be very repetetive. Every Stratovarius or Dragonforce song is basically the same format. Stratovarius always does a little intro lead, the verse is just whole note powerchords, then theres a major chorus or prechorus, and the intro lead repeats. Dragonforce is very similar, and unlike Stratovarius who I think has amazing sections with neoclassical melodies, and some really good solos, Dragonforce's music just bores me even beyond the major scale parts.

If you count Wintersun and powermetal, which they are certainly influenced by, but they aren't really, they are my favorite powermetal band with some form of clean vocals, although they do more harsh ones. The harsh vocalled powermetal bands (Bodom, Norther, Kalmah, Skyfire, Imperanon, etc) never use major scale and tend to have much more room for melody because they don't have vocal melodies there to get in the way of things.

No, Kalmah.

I seriously find Bodom to be immature and boring.

That's fine and all, but to me Dragonforce is far more melodic than Bodom, Norther, etc, and the vocals simply enhance this.

Again, whilst the dissonance of the minor scales is appealing, it does get old very fast. And whilst you complained about the structural consistency of Dragonforce and Stratovarius songs, you ignored that Bodom and Norther are very much formulaic.

Oh, and Imperanon sounds interesting, what album do you recommend?

Imperanon only has one album, it sounds much more like something a clean vocaled band would write.

Norther I agree does have very similar songs, Bodom although similar in a sense I think are all very original. And I'm not just talking minor scale, I think any mode really. In terms of melody if Dragonforce is more melodic I think your crazy. Bodom has so many more leads and use of keyboard, Dragonforce is all powerchords besides intro riffs and solos.

Sabaton are very Wagner-ian, like Manowar, but with more of the classical influence. Their vocalist is like a Swedish Lemmy, but with more of a belting quality to his voice like Hansi Kursch.

Their lyrics focus almost exclusively on history and war, so the influence of Wagner is particularly fitting.

Not Wanger, Wagner. Richard Wagner, the composer of Ride of the Valkyries.

It's not as intensely melodic as CoB, but instead relies on using driving rhythms with a healthy dose of reverb and backing vocals to create a sweeping, epic sound. Panzer Battallion though has some really nice lead guitar work to it in harmonic minor.

In all honesty tho, I think lyrics are maybe 5% of the importance of a song. If a song is amazing and has bad lyrics, it's still got an A in my book.

Only one real thing, The cover of The reckoning is basically the trooper's cover with eddie replaced by some other thing and The war in question altered.
So there is that album, they end 2 songs on AIA the same as Maiden songs, there "mascot" on there alive in athens album is just eddie changed, the guitar/bass/drums and vocal style are very similar

Thanks alot.

I like the sound of the Ghoul concept, as they are intertwined with the Undead, ghouls aree not undead themselves, merely cannibals who eat the corpses in Graveyards...

Steerpike
11-06-2005, 11:07 AM
Exactly. The whole concept came about from Arab nomads. Seeing as they had no formal settlements, they were often forced to bury their dead where ever was convenient and leave a grave marker so anyone passing by would know to pay respects.

But occasionally, the nomads would stumble across a dug up grave and badly chewed up bodies. Now, with modern knowledge of how nature works, that's simply a matter of desert wild dogs digging up the bodies and snacking on whatever parts were still digestable. But to ancient nomads, there was only one explanation: there must be some sort of demon that feeds on the flesh of dead humans. Hence, the ghoul.

You win.

Still, it does get annoying for me that I have to explain my influences as a guitarist and singer, and nobody knows what the **** I'm talking about.

"Well, I was deeply inspired by Criss Oliva's intensely melodic and multi-faceted guitarwork, but I also really love the stoner/doom sound in Candlemass and Cathedral. And of course I really admire the achingly expressive style of Michael Schenker and Buck Dharma. But as a singer, I'd say my biggest inspirations would have to be Jon Oliva's raw emotional power, Glenn Danzig's ghoulish croon, Michale Graves classic styling blended with punk energy, and Matt Barlow's incredible adaptability."

By then, they just sort of stare at me with a glassy look trying to figure out who the hell these people are.

I just listened to Symphony of Enchanted Lands, it was a great album, some amazing symphonic classical stuff.

I don't understand why they are the cheesiest band ever, on a scale of 1-10 of cheesiness they are like a 6, while Dragonforce is easily a 9.

I'd ask for the download, but I promised myself to lay off the downloads until I can clear out a chunk of my Limewire downloads.

This is partially because I just picked up The Movies and it ate up a nice wad of my remaining free space.

On the upshot, as soon as I unlock all of the features, I'll be making horror movies with Iced Earth, Michale Graves, Nevermore, and Mercyful Fate in the soundtrack.

I havent heard of "The Movies". Is it a program that lets you insert and edit video camera data? The bands you mentioned (except for Michale Graves whom I dont know) dont sound too creepy to me :p

Steerpike

The Movies is a video game. You build and manage a movie studio with stars, crew, writers, etc.

It allows you to create custom stars and scripts and offers a lot of freedom in designing your own movies. One guy in The Pit made a thread for the game in Media Center and already put up a few of his movies. The first was a short called Zombie Slaughter that included a scene of a ninja knife-fighting with a jawless zombie with Killing in the Name by RATM playing in the background. Come on, you know you want to see that.

Shattered_Future
11-18-2005, 02:17 PM
