Well, in the case of Death, it depends on which era you look at.

If you listen to the early stuff, Chucks is pretty much roaring into the microphone.

Their later stuff, though is a bit of a change. Lately, it's been giving me the mental image of Chuck acting like a cougar and stalking an elk in the middle of a national park.

Yeah. It's very similar, but a lot more agressive. His voice isn't so clean as it was. Lots of choruswork though, and violins are still very strong. Would you like a sample? I'll put a few up on my website if you'd like a sample.

INHUMAN RAMPAGE - BRAND NEW ALBUM

Following a hugely successful summer and autumn, during which the 18 month campaign in support of their Sonic Firestorm album has seen them wowing festival crowds around Europe before returning to the UK to play yet another sell out tour, London based metallists DRAGONFORCE have just completed work on their eagerly anticipated third album.

Inhuman Rampage contains eight brand new songs and will be released on 9th January 2006. The album recording sessions were made at Thin Ice Studios in Virginia Water (Surrey) and guitarist Herman Li's own studio in West London between April and September, while production duties were shared between Li, fellow axeman Sam Totman and keyboard player Vadim Pruzhanov.

When asked to comment on the new album, Li stated:
“On the new album we have come up with the ultimate formula that has never been done before. Combining intensity, chaos and melody, with all the DragonForce trademarks plus some more. For us, this is the next evolution in DragonForce's sound. I have never heard an album sounding like ‘Inhuman Rampage'....the title says it all! It's seriously gonna blow some heads off around the world next year.”

The full tracklisting of Inhuman Rampage is as follows:-
1. Through the Fire and Flames
2. Revolution Deathsquad
3. Storming the Burning Fields
4. Operation Ground and Pound
5. Body Breakdown
6. Cry for Eternity
7. The Flame of Youth
8. Trail of Broken Hearts

The album will be released on CD and picture vinyl, with the CD featuring an enhanced section and other surprise goodies....

Herman Li and Vadim Pruzhanov will undertake a 2 week tour of Continetal Europe to promote the January 9th release of 'Inhuman Rampage' and will visit the following cities:
October Monday 17th - Brussels / Tuesday 18th - Athens / Wednesday 19th Berlin / Thursday 20th Stockholm / Friday 21st - Helsinki / Saturday 22nd - Cologne / Sunday 23rd - Cologne / Monday 23rd - Dortmund / Tuesday 25th - Paris / Wednesday 26th - Milan / Thursday 27th - Barcelona / Friday 28th - Stuttgart & Munich.

Speaking of literary influence, I realised recently, for those who didn't read my earlier post, that Blind guardian's "somewhere far beyond" has, infuriatingly been influenced by Stephen King's Dark tower series, which I am still in the process of writing my own song based on, and was before I actually read the lyrics booklet to that album.

Bah.

My favourite would be The Belgariad/Mallorean by David Eddings.

Then comes either the books by Fiest concerning Midkemia, or the Elenium/Tamuli series by Eddings. Then I'd rate the Dragon books by Anne McCaffrey, Tolkien's books, and perhaps the Keltannach by Patricia Kennealy. I'd also rate Ed Greenwood's Elminster: The Making of a Mage, King's Dark Tower, and R.A. Salvatore's books highly.

I have part 1 on MP3 but I like part 2 better.

Their are SOFAI fans on here but Martin better hurry up an finish his book pretty soon now. WoT has done in for me lately (say from book 7 or 8) you should try some Steven Erikson's Malazen Tale of the Fallen instead.

They're prog metal in the modern nevermore style, only they have more groove ala pantera and more traditional vocals.

Yes, I would say that they have intense modern power elements. Besides, the term power metal is very broad nowadays. For the record Therion originally started as a death metal band.

One Step Beyond has probably the best "songs" on there, by that I mean they're not necessarily as progressive as the earlier albums but they're good solid songs and HEAPS of solos! :thumb:

Under The Rising Sun... well, the live show is really cool and the behind the scenes stuff is a lot of fun and fairly interesting. It's let down a bit by the length of the show (we only had 45 minutes allocated to us) and a bit of the footage is a bit crappy thanx to some of the cameras being set up wrong, but there was no way we were gonna bail on this footage because of that! It's a good example of what Dungeon was like circa 2003 live if nothing else and the band was on fire that night! :)

It's worth getting I think, but if you're clever you'd get the LMP limited release of One Step Beyond which comes bundled with the Under The Rising Sun DVD, a few bonus tracks and a bonus video clip on the album. :)

Dunno if the last album is gonna be any good yet so get the ones which don't suck first! HAHAHA!

All Asian guitar players are ****ing awesome. The Japanese can put a wailing heavy metal shred solo into anything and make it sound awesome. My girlfriend's J-Pop, with people like pop diva Utada Hikaru, has crazy guitar solos interspersed throughout what's basically mechanical pop music all over. That makes them all great to me. :)

Besides, look at X-Japan. They have one of the best 20+ songs ever, and that includes "A Change of Seasons" and "2112." They're all amazing.

Tarja getting sacked doesn't diminish the music she did with them; if anything it will make it more precious and irreplaceable. It's funny, but in a way I'm a little bit glad that the band can't now go on to become a parody of themselves - Nightwish as we knew it finished on a high, and nothing can now tarnish that.

ANATO takes time to sink in because the production is so dense. The songs on there averaged around 75 instrumental voices, which is unbelievable when you consider how most metal songs average around 24.

Hansi has said that ANATO was an experiment to see how far they could push that concept, and on the next album they'll be toning it down to be more reminiscent of NIME

Speaking of overblown arrangements (like BG's), Tarranno Del Mar from that album had 140 backing vocal tracks! All up, 220 tracks! HAHA!

Dungeon = Blind Guardian Jnr. :p

I don't mind people trading one or 2 songs to give someone a feel for what we do, so go nuts. Whole albums on the other hand... well, that's why I'm eating 2 minute noodles instead of steak every night! ;)

For songs, I suggest these from One Step Beyond: "Against The Wind", "Tarranno Del Mar", "The Hunger" or "One Step Beyond"

For over the top ness (is that a word?), try these from A Rise To Power "Lost In The Light" or "Traumatised"

For good heavy metal, try "Resurrection" or "The Legend Of Huma" from the Resurrection (2005) album.

And for some fun, see if you can find "Insanity's Fall" from the Under The Rising Sun live album (it comes as the bonus disc on the latest Resurrection album limited edition through LMP).

That should keep you busy! :)

And if you get bored, look up some songs from "A Personal Journey" by LORD. ;)

Currently the faves off one step beyond are against the wind, tarranno del mar and under the cross

So part one of checking Dungeon! :p

I've been able to find and download most of these songs and I have to say that I still find them quite old school heavy/power yet highly evolved for the standards of such a narrowed (in my opinion always) style. Dungeon I believe are the definition of traditional metal played by a modern band and they certainly have the potential to grow on me! Netherlife (Black Roses Die) is my new favourite song. Superb lead guitar work!

Yes mate, I have. Don't worry 'bout the card business - it's purely to prove that you actually have the card in your possession and haven't skanked the number off somebody elses.
After the first time you don't have to do it again.

My Dad signed up to their mailing list not so long ago and they sent 2 copies of the same magazine, the pictures are fun to look at seeing as I've not done German for about 3 years...

Do I just scan the front of the card and email them the picture with my order?

I don't know about the scanning thing - I just photocopied mine and faxed it over when I was at work, together with my name, order details etc.
The order came really quick as well, and was preceded by a nice email from a hot-sounding german chick.

Is that track representative of the whole album, or is it by far the best one on there?
Might be worth checking out. :)

As another bit of band-whoring, anyone out there heard of, or got any stuff by Twilightning?
They're yet another finnish power metal band ( I reckon that 50% of that countries population must be in a metal band of some sort!) who remind me a lot of Sonata Arctica. Obviously, the singer doesn't sound like Tony Kakko - no-one does...
