Does anyone remember Requiem (Fin), the neoclassical euro power band? I've just ordered their album (The Arrival) and will be glad to upload songs as long as they rule as much as the samples!

A couple of months ago I could have bought some Skyfire albums for 2 euro a piece. I didn't buy them because I didn't know them back then.

Now downloading Spectral (I hope it isn't too good or I'm going to have to kick myself in the head or something).

They are quite good, not as good as SA or NW tho' - after a couple of albums you've pretty much heard what they have to say. And that new album - ugh! :upset:
Fits into the "What are they doing?" category, that one
Still they did help to forge PM as we know (and love) it

Lord Abortion

Stratovarius- powerless metal

Why do they bother?
Stratovarius have already conquered mainland europe over the past 10 years. Now they are hoping this gormless nonsense will make them big news in Britain. Ha, sorry, no chance. Firstly they need to get a lineup that exhudes attitude, vibrancy and enthusiasm...secondly, they need to avoid embarassments like "Gotterdammerung (Zenith of power)" which deals with the always touchy subject of Nazi Germany in such an appallingly inept and juvenile, insulting manner, it defies human belief. If these Feeble Finns believe this misbegotten melle is gonna make them big over here in the U.K, they're heading for a big fall. Charmless tripe- 2/10 (sorry not 0, my fault, misread it first time I read it. :p)
that's the review there

Certainly, his name is Malcolm Dome, and although I can't find his Email address, He appears to be a twat.
He also reviews the new Hypocrisy album in a similar fashion

I'm not sure who Mr Spock is but I absolutely hate it when reviews are written in such an insubstantial and insulting way. For god's sake, he doesn't even refer to the music!

I'm a HUGE Strato fan, but when I saw (and heard) the video for Maniac Dance I was left utterly disappointed. They completely lost their sound; no speed, no awesome solos, TK doesn't even hit high notes.

I was referring more to the fact that he uses an overabundance of big words and complex sentence structures for the sole purpose of making himself sound much more intelligent and clever than he really is.

I dont really mind this kind of language (="over the top", in fact I write a lot this way in my language) but what I hate is adopting a sarcastic attitude and bashing a band without giving actual reasons.

and also of course a lot depends on who does the review

Indeed, now I think of it its not quite accurate to say "metal hammer" rated this album with X but "a particular reviewer who writes for metal hammer" rated this album with X...

I usually don't mind it either. Over the top writing can be a lot of fun, but not when the writer has such a bad attitude. I guess I'm just being picky about the writing because that review pissed me off.

Right, so i'm now in the year 12 at College, and a load of kids who moved up into year 10 are well into Nightwish, so they come talk to me because i was wearing a Maiden shirt, and their all like 'So you like Power Metal?' And i'm like 'Not really Nightwish PM...' And these kids are all like 'OmGZZZ NightTWIShs TIUS TEH BEssTt Man!!!'

I then walked swiftly away.

Gah. Nightwish fanboys irritate me.

The song I heard was Prophet of the Last Eclipse of the s/t album. If the rest of the album is as impressive as this then I hate myself for seeing it in a second hand CD store for 5 euros and not buying it

The surprising thing is that they keyboards didnt bother me at all, the opposite, I did like them! I have officially gotten used to keyboards in power metal :D

Warning, the following short statement is off the topic of PM and is just my awesome opinion.
Make of it what you will(y)
hahah...I said willy...
Alot of people recently voted liberal Democrat in the last British election. Mostly students. One of the key ideals of the Liberal Democrat Manifesto is to join the Euro. (Which I don't like BTW, I'm not a perticularly patriotic person, but I just don't like the idea of losing the pound.)
I digress, anyway. These people I talked to about why they voted this way, said that they didn't want to conform.
I raised the point that if Britain were to join the Euro, they would be just like most other European countries. (in other words....conforming)
They shut up...I'm going to vote green party when the nex election comes around...or Conservative.

Green Party are ridiuclous. They would do nothing for our Country, all they would do is 'cut' emissions by rationing power and fuel, leading us into a situation similar to China at the minute. They care more about animals than humans, and would greatly hinder scientific progress in the areas of drugs and advanced treatments.

And the Lib Dems are ridiuclous. Their sums just don't add up. They say they can cut tax yet increase spending with money that comes out of nowhere, and let more immigrants into the Country? **** off lads.

Let's just put it this way. No matter what political direction you swing, there are always going to be groups whom you will feel the need to apologize to everyone else for. For liberals like myself, it's people like diehard socialists. For conservatives, it's the religious right. For environmentalists, it's PETA.

Merely more proof that stupidity is ubiquitous and no one with a decent head on their shoudlers is in charge these days.

Very true. I supported the Liberals (in Canada by the way), and then watched them make asses out of themselves. June - August:

There are some really good folk metal bands that sound like power metal. Such as Ensiferum and Wintersun. Both great bands. I've been getting into alot of power metal lately, and now its my favorite genre. Has anyone mentioned Sonata Arctica?

Repeatedly. Just not for the last few pages.

I'm not as into them as others around here, but I think they just need time to grow on me.

I like SA too, but I don't think they'll ever be my fave - the earlier albums esp. I can only listen to a few tracks without wanting a break from the "dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada" rhythms and Tony's verbal diarrhoea...
I like it when they slow the pace a tad, or do one of their great ballads

I like Sonata Arctica, but it'll probably take me a bit to get into them. I didn't really get into metal until like a year ago if that, and since then I've had like a million bands thrown in my face...it'll take a while to get through them all.

thank you for your interest :)

I would say they're closer to prog than to power although their sound is based on the euro power formula. I would cautiously say that the album I own (their debut) is rather immature compared to the other two and especially their new one. Still, it's full of smart proggy parts and very enjoyable in overall. One of the two songs I've uploaded is the best of the album by far and closer I believe to the recent and most mature Requiem. Anyway, I think they worth some attention!

You'll have an e-mail as soon as the second upload is done ;)

I just found a brilliant bit in an SA song.

Yeah, the lyrics to Don't Say A Word are pretty chilling (my fave on the album) and also the whole album is more varied, plus Tony's voice seems to get ever better. I'm glad their latest album is my favourite; it's awful when bands you like's output gets worse and worse.....

What does this actually mean? Are you comparing to 'popular' metal all whining about lost loves and teen angst stories of drugs and death? I prefer lyrics with a little more flare, uniqueness, and ingenuity to them, even if that means Dragons and Swords.

I think many Power metal lyrics aren't really that cheesey, SA ones are pretty good, NW lyrics, are, IMO, virtually devoid of any, Stratovarius is prob. more guilty on that score, as are Hammerfall, but the bands with the worst, cheesiest lyrics are poppier, "hair metal" - type bands, like VH or, worse still, Kiss. I bloody hate lyrics that lamely tell me to "Rock all day, Roll all night" or say "These are crazy, crazy, crazy, nights!" then compound the insult to my intelligence by shouting "All right!" as the rhyme. That I really detest.
Not too much of that thoughtless, cop-out crap in PM

I dunno, Nightwish has a few corny lines...

I know in Dead Gardens, there's something about an orc...

And Elvenpath has the oh so thoughtful line "He told me to keep the sauna warm for him"

Overall, though, Nightwish has some really great lyrics.

If you get stuck, drop the guys at LMP a line and they'll help you - they have an online store too: http://www.limb-music.de

I watched a few clips from it...

The Kinslayer was good. The buildup of crowd noise right before the intro bursts in was brilliant, yet the song was pretty standard Nightwish fare.

Wanderlust, one of my favorite songs from Wishmaster, had pretty much the same effect as it does when i heard the recorded version...it's awesome. The stop in the middle is brilliant as well.

The video for Sleeping Sun was WEIRD. Why the crap is a bathtub in the middle of a field? Song was the same as always...one of the best Nightwish ballads ever.

However, The Pharaoh Sails To Orion reminded me of why I love Nightwish so much. It was PHENOMANAL. Everything was spot on, and brilliant...the subtle little changes added SO much more to the song, such as Tuomas's new piano part or the awesome long outro to the song.

From what I've seen so far, this is your next best bet to seeing Nightwish live. Buy it now.

Traditionally, its fast, uptempo, happier music. Usually with a keyboardist, however, there have been instances without. Also, generally the singer has a clean singing voice.
