View Full Version : So, My Dad Just Came Home With An Iraqi's AK-47...

Ramsey

....And this is soooooo awseome! :D

So, I was asleep, and the phone rings. I pick up, and its Dad.

"Do you remember Carl Zester, our neighbor?"

"Hmm, not really"

"Well, he just got you an AK-47 from Iraq"

""

"Thank him on the phone, now"

"Yessir :D"

So Dad comes home, carrying this AK, and hands it to me. Apparently, they filled the barrel with lead, but its still usable (if you break off the barrel and replace it). It was rebuilt because it was broken into pieces. And since the U.S. Army uses M-16's, guess who I got it from? It was taken from an Iraqi who died during a run in with the U.S. army. Crrrreeeeeepay.

So i'm looking at this monster right now...Christ this is a powerful gun. And it makes me shudder everytime I think of the Iraqi that died while using it..

Also, he gave me a Iraqi Duty Free Aiport sticker. How cool is that?

Well, how was your day :-/?

I've held one of those.

It's a very nice weapon (if there is such a thing as a nice weapon). I mean, it's 57 years old, and it's still the most popular, widely used military weapon in the world!

Good ol' Soviet engineering! :p

how was my day? Me and a friend got drunk on Vodka last night and i spent most of today sleeping.

An AK-47, that is pretty cool. Those things are really something, wish I had one, even if it didn't work. :thumb:

I fired an AK last year. Too much firepower for my likeing and a bit too innacurate. Not really useful unless you're in a war, and all I do is shoot rabbits and foxes.
They should have buried the Iraqi with his weapon though, and at least given him that respect. Poor bastard.

My friend found a shop in the city that would sell a handgun to him for $350 without a license.

I offered to pay half but he still said he wasn't going to get it :(.

Yeah, what ever happened to dead peoples' right to bear arms?\

I agree though, if you live by the gun and die by the gun, you should probably die with the gun as well.

Nahh, its a matter of respect.

Like when your Grandmother dies, you don't put flowers on her grave? Or do you just say "Like it matters, shes dead now"

Aus_rock_god

probably would have won some respect from the Iraqis too, if the US buiried Iraqi soldiers like warriors.

OzzChok

its probably more for the family tho. If he has no alive family no1 really cares. But if he has a family its more out of respect for them for him to have his gun.

Sounds good man.

Did the guy just....pick it up from the dead guy?

I'd like to fire a gun - being in the UK it's slightly difficult...My Dad / relatives have fired some rounds, and it would just be something I'd like to try.

If anyone in the UK know's anywhere where I could do this, I'd like to know!

Dan

^ Nahh, they had it destroyed, and somehow they rebuilt it . But it was used by an Iraqi. Pretty creepy. I can imagine the gun with blooc all over it. :upset:

But its unusable, unless, as I said, you break off the barrel.

Ozzchok, I took pictures, I'm going to mail them to you, ok?

The AK-47 is very inaccurate, main reason we didn't use them. Has limited range as well, but it is very powerfull.

I know though you can drag that thing through water, mud, you name it and it will still fire.

M16's don't do that, so that's a cool find

Lots of people have AK-47's

Ramsey
05-13-2004, 05:43 PM
Yes, I'm pretty sure alot of American 18 year olds own an AK-47 dating from 1981 that was used in combat between an American and a Iraqi, that is also one of the first models of its kind. Happens all the time, you see..

I wouldn't be boasting if I got a I-Pod or something; yet this is something really unique, and freaky.

Pop music sucks
05-13-2004, 06:00 PM
Well, realisticially speaking, AK-47's were over produced by the Soviet Union when the AK-47 replaced the SKS45.

It costs about $2,000 to buy one.

Frankenstrat

I wouldnt take it or find it interesting but I can see why you find it interesting and am not condemning you. I would just feel as if I was taking something from someone who died and I didnt even know it. I mean youself in there eyes. An american troop gets killed and they take his M-16 home to an Iraqi family and awe at it...i find it a little disrepectful

Off topic i know someone who came back from Iraq but there really messed up because they killed a 14 year old boy (the boy was shooting at them though its not like they killed him for no reason).

An american troop gets killed and they take his M-16 home to an Iraqi family and awe at it...i find it a little disrepectfulAnd so do I. Truthfully, if I had received that AK-47 knowing that they took it from a dead man. I would'nt accept that gun, it just feels dishonorable to own a dead man's gun. I wouldn't mind if my dad bought a gun from the store and gave it to me, or my grandfather with one of his many rifles. Because it's honorable and you know who it came from, and why.

It costs about $2,000 to buy one.Thats true, but I'm talking about the sentimental value. Also one other thing:

What am I supposed to tell me dad? He thought it was cool.

What, do expect me to tell him to fuck off? No, I thought it was cool, and I'm sure all of you would too if your dad came home with one.

EDIT: I just read PMS's post. I don't know, I just don't feel that way. Maybe it wasn't taken from a dead iraqi, maybe he was taken hostage,.

Whats with all the swearing? Do you feel the need to swear at an individual, when he/she disagree with your opinions?

And about the "grow a pair" thing, it was just a joke. Cool it man, its an internet forum.

I never said that I didn't disagree with my father bringing, true, I was excited, but I still found it creepy, I said that in my first post. Its not because of PMS that I wanted to give it back, I want to give it back because I found it creepy and I still do.

My friend bought one of those last week. In the USA, you can get them for around $350, his came with two 30 round magazines. I hope to add one to my gun collection, its ****ing sweet. Made in Romainia, semi automatic. The only problem is the cheap ammo for it is still 9 cents around so we cant afford to shoot it all that much.

Hopefully if the "assault weapon" ban expires the prices will go down a little bit. I want to get some high capacity magazines for my 10/22... its not as fun making the pop cans dance with only 10 rounds :(

chim,
Its not a big picture and I cant tell if you got the real-deal fully auto or the semi auto. The way you can tell is the safety... if it stops on just up or down its a semi auto but if theres a middle stop for it its the full shebang.

Anyway, even if your not going to shoot it its still something neat to hang on to (especailly since your dad thought that much of you to give it to you). Think of all the people around that collect the nazi **** from the 40s. People pay alot of money for that stuff.

Man, you guys are acting like you've never seen an AK before

Wouldn't suprise me (keep in mind most of em probably havn't fired a live round before).

To threadstarter: Have you checked that the mechanics of the gun still work?

If not, I may as well tell you how:

1. Check if it still has a round in it (it most likely won't, but it's better to be safe then sorry).
Take the magazine out (if I remember correctly, the mag release switch on the AK is just forward of where the mag loads) and hold out your hand in case a round drops out (happens sometimes).
Check the safety is on (it's the little button above the trigger, should have a white dot on one side and a red dot on the other side, press the red dot in)
Next, pull the action back so that the chamber opens, and tilt the weapon on it's side, shake it a little (holding your hand under it) then look into the chamber to double check that there's nothing in there.

Note: Check thoughly that there isn't a round in the chamber, otherwise you could blow your hand off.

2. Pull the action all the way back, then guide it forward again. Release the safety and pull the trigger. If it makes a click, it still fires. If it doesn't check the safety and try again.

I'm just curious to weather it still functions.

Dude, why would you want to HAVE an assault weapon? They're not any use unless you want to fight in a war.

Unless you're in an area where there's an elephant population problem or something a civillian REALLY doesn't need a weapon that powerful. I could understand if you try one at a shooting range just to say "I fired an AK, yey!", but owning one is a completely different situation.

Seriously, if the only people with guns were farmers there'd be next to no deaths from firearms. And even then farmers, the only people besides the armed forces that have a liable excuse to own a gun, have no reason why they should have a semi-automatic or automatic weapon.

^^ That's the barrel. The gun can still fire if the barrel has been filled. You just don't want it to fire with a bullet in there =/

Also, I've held an Steyr Aug :D Standard military weapon for us Aussies.

Only the barrel was filled with lead. I'm just curious to know if the mechanics still work in it.

You can still make a gun function without a round in it, it just won't go bang.

Now the stiyr! THAT'S a good weapon, far more accurate than the AK, and doesn't buck alot. I'd trade my .22 in for that if it wasn't a semi-automatic (fireing three bullets instead on one is a waste I recon).

Its the real thing, I checked, its got that middle stop. Semi Automatic, Automatic, and Saftey. And my dads a gun expert, so he would have said so.

I've decided i'm keeping it. Its something rare, and that just makes it all the more cooler.

I'm just curious to weather it still functions.

It still does, I already checked. It doesn't have any ammo, so no need to worry. The barrel is filled with lead, but If I break it off, went to a guns expert and replaced it, the gun would be fully functional.

Mine is fairly heavy, i'd say about a four pounds heavier than my guitar. Its filled with lead, but that doesn't affect the weight too much.

I was actually suprised how light my friend's is. I figured it would kick pretty hard too but it really didnt. You hear more of the recoil spring inside the gun than you do the actual shot while shooting it.

Full auto would be cool but I dont think I could hit much of anything with it. If we shoot sort of slowly and controlled rate we can be pretty acurate with it, but when we let them rip we can barely hit the hill let alone the target.

I have another friend that used to be in the army. He was in Desert Shield. I think he said if you wanted an AK47 all you had to give for it was a bottle of whiskey they are so plentiful. Im not sure if he said that it was in Iraq or Kuwiat or what though.

It's not a TOTAL ban, it's just aginst Automatic and Semi-automatic guns, unless you're a sport shooter. You can still own a gun in Australia.
Plus, even though the ban is on, people still have machine guns ect. especcially war veterans. It's only that we have enough sence to not use them.
You can go to a rifle range and ask to try one of their weapons. You need to have a gun licence though.
