Review:
I got this CD and Tell All Your Friends (By Taking Back Sunday) from my friend for $5. He claimed they were both horrible but he's more of a dashboard/guster emo guy. For about a year after listening to the CD I was anti-Saves the Day. I hated them. I hated the CD. Then I got into playing the bass and I started to reexamine alot of my older CDs and found that a lot of them were pretty decent. I came across Saves the Day and it was like listening to the Cd for the first time. I was amazed by it and it was my new favorite CD. The tracks were catchy, the guitars fast, the bass riffs amazing, I could find nothing wrong with the CD. About a year later it is still one of my favorite CDs. I think this is one of the best emo CDs ever made and it the best emo CD I have. It has remained a favorite all this time and I find myself listening to it very often.
All-Star Me - Built around an extremely catchy guitar riff. Chris' soft vocals fill you with images of sad break ups. The bass is smooth and the drums are fast. An excellent album opener. A bit short. 4 out of 5
You Vandal - One of my favorite STD songs ever. Amazing chorus and Chris once agains sings about missing a girl. The album continues to roll at a smooth pace with this wonderful punk beat. 5 out of 5
Shoulder to the Wheel - It keeps going. Shoulder to the Wheel was the hit single from Through Being Cool and it is obvious why. Catchy lyrics, varying guitar parts. Has an upbeat punk feel. Chris sings about driving to get away from it all. 4 out of 5
Rocks Tonic Juice Magic - The best song on the album. A bit darker, Chris sings about the darker side of a relationship. The lyrics are amazing. ("Let me take this akaward saw, run it against your thighs. Cut some flesh away, I'll carry this piece of you with me. Because all I can say tonight is I hate you and it'll be alright.") The anthem-like chorus always has me singing. The three guitars chords and Chris cries "Heart is on the floor, why don't you step on it?" And the song ends with Chris crying "You and I are like when fire and the ocean both collide!" An amazing bass riff accompanies this emo masterpiece. 5 out of 5
Holly Hox, Forget Me Nots - A catchy punk song with great lyrics. Chris sings about wanting a girl apparently named Holly Hox. The song ends with Chris singing "Bangin' on your door, please please pleas Mr. Hox. Won't you tell your daughter I'm all alone, and I'm not handlin' this well!" And aweosme intro. 4 out of 5
Third Engine - A pretty good song. Chris sings about missing a girl. The lyrics are memorable "Did you know my sweet? Yeah, that I once took the liberty of, watching you in your sleep." A pretty good bass riff and a catchy intro. 4 out of 5
My Sweet Fracture - A bass driven song in which Chris sings about a mix of feelings in a relationship. The lyrics are very good, Chris opens the song with "Could you tell me the next time your choking? 'Cause I'll rush right over to shove some dirt right down your throat." The song mellows out during the chorus and ends with a great guitar riff and Chris yelling "Besides, I'd rather forget the days we spent than try to stay afloat in shallow water." 4 out of 5
The Vast Spoils of America (From the Badlands Through the Ocean) - An excellent song with a great lead riff and an anthem like chorus. Chris yells "California, where the mountains climb so tall and the waves crash blue around you! Everyone's passed out in the van and I'm the one drivng through the land!" A great punk sounding song. 5 out of 5
The Last Lie I Told - Nothing to special about this song. Chris sings about expecting something that doesn't happen. The clean guitar intro is pretty good and the chorus is kinda memorable. The album's momentum keeps going though. 3 out of 5
Do You Know What I Love the Most - An amazing song with a spectacular bass beat. Chris sings about a relationship. The song stays catchy throughout and the album's momentum picks back up again. 5 out of 5
Through Being Cool - Probably the albums weakest moment. A bass driven verse, Chris sings about... being through with being cool. The lyrics are kind of cheesy ("You know what? The next time you see Nick tell him I'm gonna stick some needles in his face." And later "Hey Nick, why you such a prick?" The chorus is memorable. 3 out of 5
Banned From the Back Porch - A decent album ender, it starts out with a heavier plam muted guitar riff and keps up a punk feel. The song gets progressively better. Sad to hear this wonderful album come to an end with three chords. 4 out of 5
The Good: Catchy riffs, great lyrics, amazing bass, every song is good
The Bad: CD length 33:22
Score: 5 out of 5
