Review:
I am a huge fan of Thursday and they are one of my favorite bands. After picking up Full Collapse, I was an instant fan. Of course, I picked up last year's War All the Time the day it came out. After listening to both those cds, I still craved more Thursday. My friend had a CD called Waiting that his friend had burned him and one night, while searching at a local Borders, I came across Waiting. I bought it on the spot and brought it home to listen. After a full listen, I was, well, I just didn't care for it. I'm not going to say disappointed because I didn't expect much from the CD. It starts off with the haunting "Porcelain" in which Geoff and Tom scream, "When people die, they take a piece of us with them." The CD continues with the only real hit off the record, "This Side of Brightness," a melodic song. Next up, the haunting Ian Curtis in which Geoff sings "We heard Ian Curtis kill himself again, In your bed," and later on he yells "Love has torn us apart!" Then comes "Introduction," an instrumental. It continues with the melodic "Streaks in the Sky," then comes my favorite song off the album "In Transmission." Next is "Dying in New Brunswick," in which Geoff sings "I'm writing you this letter, to let you know, things are not alright!" I live in New Jersey, proud home of Thursday and it was cool to hear them sing about the local town of New Brunswick. "The Dotted Line" has nothing really special. But the CD climaxs with the beautiful "Where the Circle Ends." Geoff speaks while melodic, interwinding guitars sound behind him. So there's really not much to say about this album. From here, Thursday moved to Victory Records and released the screamo masterpiece Full Collapse. If your a Thursday freak like me, Waiting is a good album to have. If not, its a CD you could afford to skip.
