If you are looking to buy some gear and are undecided or want more information, post the name of the item here and if someone has the item, they will hopefully make a review on it.

Double Bass Pedal?

I'm looking for a good, solid, middle-of-the-line double bass pedal. Any recommendations or ones to avoid? What makes them good or bad?

Go for a Iron Cobra junior if you are below 18, and, erm, a little less than 90 kgs. Jokes apart, try any of the WorldMax pedals: they are really nice. Axis has some entry-level pedals you can try out, too. I use Iron Cobras, but only coz I got 'em as a gift. They're smooth enough, but what I really want is a DW 9000, chain-drive one, sure.

"I'm looking for a good, solid, middle-of-the-line double bass pedal. Any recommendations or ones to avoid? What makes them good or bad?"

Dude, save up some dough, and go for the DW-9000, or the 5000, chain-drive, ANY **** TIME. They're the ones who brought in the free-floating ball-bearing system, and that is one mother!! I've tried the Iron Cobras too, and it's also very smooth: but that would always be a second choice to DWs.
Happy playing. Rhythm heals.

I want to see reviews of sonor drum kits and A zildjian cymbals but the reviews should compare the products to other products of the same level.

For me, there is no better cymbal brand than Zildjian. I reckon they're the best, but they are expensive, if you live in the US, i know a site where you can get them cheaply, or on the other hand, good value for money makes are: Headliner, MCS and AA. Hope this is helpful to you!

Having used both, I'd say it is down to personal preference. Personally I would favour the Tama Iron Cobra, which is what I use now, but try them both out and then pick the one you prefer, they are both really good! However, try and avoid belts if you can and go for chains, because I find that belts damage easier.

Mapex M kits are the best in that price range IMO,

fusion sizes = 10",12" and 14" toms
rock sizes = 12",13" and 16" floor tom

first off titanium have a very bright sound otherwise just show and for something different, as for heads it really depends oin what style your playing. for rock just get a simple two ply clear pin stripe for the toms and coated for snare. jazz and lighter music a single ply will do

I just bought a pair of the Joey Jordison model AHEAD (advanced high eficiency aloy drum sticks) and their great! they're not made of wood, they're made of some kinda metal and the tips are plastic and the part of the stick that you hit the drum with is made of an interchangeable grip.... over all it's kinda hard to explain. For me it makes it ALOT easier to play and it made my drum set (yamaha rhydeen) and cymbals sound beter. the JOey Jordison ones are more for rock but there's other models available for different types of music. These sticks were pretty expensive (45 buks CND)but i did get what i paid for.

P.S. could some one do a review of the DW 5002 AD3 (or maybe even the TD3). I'm gonna buy a double basss pedal soon and it's between one of those and an iron cobran. Any help would be much apreciated.

Welcome JDM,

A little hint, Aheads arent great. They are made of metal, and when used on Cymbals, odds on the Cymbals will come off worse, infact alot of cymbal companys will void there wantarys if you Aheads on there products. People on here do not rate them at all, and if you where to bring them up in the drums forum, you will get flamed.

But you should post in the drum forums, you will be suprised in what you will learn. And most of use in there dont bite that hard :p

06-28-2005, 05:09 PM
Thanks Kriz for the heads up....and do they really bang up the cymbals more? ouch, I wish i knew that before i bought them...oh well. I just didn't think it would because the part that you hit the cymbal with is made out of some kinda plastic grip stuff that you can be replaced, and in the instructions for the sticks, it said that the cymbals warranty would be void if i hit the cymbals with the back end (which has exposed metal). Anyways thanks again for the heads up and I'll do my best not to get flamed lol.

my drum teacher's son has a chad smith signature snare and may i say it is one of the best on the market. It definately makes use of the nickel plated steel shell because the sound that you get from a single stroke is loud, bright, but at the same time heavy and rocky, it will definately make you want to go through every song on your chili's albums. peace out

why'd the threads get wiped?not many left now :(

You have the cut off age of threads set to like a month or somthing, just go to User CP> Options and change it.

I haven't had mine for ages so I won't write a review but I will say that I really didn't like the IC double. Pedals are definatley somthing you have to try yourself and make your own judgement on.

If anyones familiar w/ Gretsch drum sets that'd be great... cuz i've been looking at a Gretsch Catalina Maple, and it looks like a good set; but i don't know any 'details' about it...

 Anyone out there have a set of TAYE pro x drums? I am considering a set of these drums as a secondary "workhorse" kit. I know that Ray Ayotte is heading this company. That, in and of itself, should a be good enough testimonial. I'd like to hear it from an actual owner. The drums look beautiful.
I am considering the blue crush laminate finish. How does the hardware perform? This kit comes with the Taye "D" series hardware pack, if that's any help. Any imput would be appreciated:thumb:

Could anyone do a review on the "Pork Pie Acrylic Snare w/Black Powder Hardware"? I'd like it to be someone who owns it, or has owned it.
