1987/2002
http://img24.photobucket.com/albums/v71/bruise_pristine/Bruise/purple.jpg
The songs on this CD were recorded in March 1987 and were included on what has come to be known by diehard Pixies fans as "The Purple Tape." From this collection of seventeen songs eight were chosen to comprise the Pixies' first album "Come On Pilgrim." These are the nine remaining songs and features the original recording of "Here Comes Your Man." As well as a previously unreleased track, "Rock A My Soul."
That was taken from the back of the album.
Track Listing:
1. Broken Face
2. Build High
3. Rock A My Soul
4. Down To The Well
5. Break My Body
6. I'm Amazed
7. Here Comes Your Man
8. Subbacultcha
9. In Heaven
Broken Fist:
This is a very odd song, it starts out with Black saying "I've gotta broken fist"
in a very odd voice that he keeps changing. Then the song breaks into the song, with no warning. There is a very odd line were Black say's "There was this boy who had some children with his sister." This song is very short and Black is the main vocalist on it, but it features Kim Deal in the background on the chorus. 4/5
Build High:
This is very strange song, with very weird sound. Kinda of sounds alittle surfish but with a dark side. Maybe something that you would hear at a freak show at a carnival. It is one of the harder songs to listen to on this album. 4/5
Rock A My Soul:
This is one of my favorites of this album, it is very catchy. Black is the main vocalist on this one you barely here Kim Deal, if not at all. The chorus on this song is one of this best chorus I have ever heard it is so catchy. 5/5
Down To The Wall:
This song is great, if you love Kim Deal and what she can do with a song, this is for you. She starts out repeating something along with a bass line, although Black is the main vocalist on this song you hear Deal in the back ground through the whole song. 5/5
Break My Body:
This is a very dark sounding song that features Black throughout the whole song with Deal barely singing on the chorus. But they have this solo kinda of thing in the background that I love. Although near the end of this song you can hear sing alittle bit louder, which is pleasing, but it doesn't last long which is a shame. 5/5
I A'm Amazed:
This song is very funny sounded, it is upbeat. With a Hawaiian sound, kinda of Reverend Horton Heat, sound. Which is awesome, they have a solo in this song, which is great, they really show their range with this song. 4/5
Here Comes Your Man:
Most of you have heard this song, it is the original recording of it. It is basically the same, but the instruments sound more raw and is recorded in a higher pitch, I like this version alot better then the one released. It has alot more edge to it, it is soft but yet hard. Kim's voice is amazing on this recording. I love it when Kim sings "So Long, So Long." 5/5
Subbacultcha:
I love the bass on this song. This isn't really a song, it is more of talking than anything both Black and Deal are featured on this song. It sounds very Sonic Youth to me. I love it when Black says "I WAS WEARING EYELINER, SHE WAS WEARING EYELINER!" The chorus is the only part of the song, where they actually sing. 3/5
In Heaven:
This song features Black speaking/little singing, at the very beginning. Then it breaks into the song, which black is yelling the same thing over and over again "IN HEAVEN EVERYTHING IS FINE!" He screams this verse at the top of his lungs later on in the song. He says a few other lines I can not make out, but it is mainly just that one line, this is a very short song. 4/5
Overall:
While most of the songs are great, the album isn't a essiential record. For the reasons that most of the songs can be found on other Pixies albums and the songs are lower quality of recording then what you would find on their other albums.
