Heh, that bad ey.
Well I like the subject, quite a bit; I've just no idea what I'll do with it afterwards.
Can anyone tell me why this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AL8VNC/qid=1125922291/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/202-2188122-5479816) (and the other Atheist albums) are apparently going to take three weeks to get here, when the dispatch time says 24 hours? :-/

Has anyone here heard Prostitute Disfigurement? Some intensely gruesome extreme death from Holland. They have some pretty gruesome lyrics. But that's death for you! My friend introduced me to them, and although their vocals are quite disgusting. I quite like them.

To start some more DM discusion, last time someone asked favorite guitarest this time Bassist. A DM bass player I highly respect is Jon Levasseur, his bass lines for Cyptopsy are beyond great. Also I don't know his name but Necrophagist's bass player is amazing just listen to the intro of Only Ashes Remain.
Are Nile coming to Canberra?
Jon Levasseur was the ex-guitarist for Cryptopsy. Eric Langlois is the bassist.

As far as favorite bassists go, Roger Patterson, Sean Malone, the aformentioned Langlois, and Steve DiGiorgio would be my favorites.

I made a thread on Zyklon-B and Thorns a while ago, if you want to look through my recent threads.
I recommend the s/t but I haven't heard anything else. It's very good.
As for not liking Mütiilation, to each his own. Alot of it is a hit or miss for me. Sometimes the vocals sound pure evil and sometimes they're practically laughable.

The vocals I quite like, its just the production that gets me. I'm used to really bad production, but VoDIB is just wrong IMO. Its too bad to get any atmosphere I think. Maybe I just need to let it grow on me though. Thanks for the thread too, I'll check it out.

There are two versions of it, an LP and a re-release or something. One of them has decent production and the other has horrible production if my memory serves me correctly. Maybe look for the other version. I know I have both, I just don't remember which one is good and which one isn't. I think the original is better.
You can grab it from me on slsk if you want... DetVlagt is my username on there. PM me before you do so I can add you to my list. (If you have slsk that is).

I saw Nile last night with Incantation and Kastrated supporting, the gig was amazing i recommend everyone to go and see nile if they have a chance to. I dont particually like the support bands but they put on a good show. The only bad thing about the gig was that some guy crowd surfed and tryed to get on the stage and he knocked a mic over while nile was playing, you can imagine he was pritty pi**ed off. So at the end of the song he told to crowd to 'keep of the ####ing stage'. The same man tryed to get on the stage several times so a man ended up hitting him and about 7 people had to pull him off, i found it pritty funny.

I havent found a band that gives me the same feeling with Origin mainly because not too many bands do these tricks with the vocals. Psycroptic should be the closest. I believe, Origin similar riffage (to an extent and ever more technical) have Beneath the Massacre (you do know them) and Domination Through Impurity.

So i'm listening to this new Between the Buried and me (Selkies: The endless obsession) and it's not bad except for these god damned breakdowns. I'm really digging this 7/8 opening riff, it grooves pretty nicely. They would so good if they cut out most of the traditional metalcore crap they do.
Breakdowns rule when done right.
They make me wanna headbang :p. And I never get that feeling really.
EDIT: WOO! I just got my shirts that were backordered today.

I'm not that much of a fan, sure the BTBAM breakdowns are better than some hardcore breakdowns but i still don't think they do the song much good. Bands nowadays just throw them in there because it's part of the genre, it's supposed to make people want to break legs and crack collarbones.

Metalcore is the new "nu metal" solely due to the fact that it's what rules the mainstream.
I strongly dislike most metalcore vox because it's weak and whiny, I dislike the breakdowns because most of them are the same thing over and over, and the melodies are most of the time half-assed.
This is the Death Heads thread. Not your average straightedge XhardXcoreX thread.

I think often core music is heavier than death metal because it utilizes dissonance better and that is infinitely heavier than distortion and speed. I really like the slightly progressive technical metal/grind/hard-core mishmash bands like The End, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Glass Casket.
NP Glass Casket - In Between the Sheets
Plus those bands have better lyrics than death metal almost always.

I still think the heaviest bands are those like Khanate that rely completely on the audio equivilant of boulders but in brutal music, I think that cliched melody has no place. Being self indulgent is key.

Yeah, I sung the vocals while high at 4:00am in the morning with mononucleiosis. They're a bit ****ed, but I dig it because it sounds sick. Turn up the volume if you want to hear it better, read the lyrics. I did my best.

Fruity Loops with samples stolen from PC Drummer Pro. I put a ton of effects on them and I'm really meticulous.

I like the part towards the end, the little melodic part.
That part took a ton of effort because I wanted two channels per panning of the guitar. I think I ended up only taking two channels total, one per each side... whatever.
I wanted to do a sweep picking solo but the one I had in mind I eventually edited it out and used it as a fill only because it didn't really fit the song, even with the melodic passage at the end. I needed another scale or something.

I havent found a band that gives me the same feeling with Origin mainly because not too many bands do these tricks with the vocals. Psycroptic should be the closest. It really depends on who you listen to. A lot of metalcore today I would say is just straight metal. Also, hardcore and punk are very different. Hardcore is a lot heavier and more complicated than basic punk, and adding elements of metal wasn't much of a surprise. Most of the popular 'metalcore' bands out now have very little in common in with hardcore, I.E. As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God. LoG actually was metalcore at one point though. If you listen to The Agony Scene and Bridge to Solace, you will see what metalcore really is.

The closest band I've found is Novembre. Katatonia is similar, as is some Agalloch but no other bands really come close. Some say My Dying Bride does, but I disagree. There really is no band like Opeth, your best bet is Novembre.

NWOAHM is just a label given to modern bands so they can be connected to each other and boost each other sales. Hardcore + metal = metalcore :)
Also, teh rhythms in many of their songs are more metal than hardcore. Hardcore is usually a faster genre with less muted picking.

That would be a XMaj9(no 3rd), it's got the root, fifth and a ninth (which is the same as a fifth from the fifth, as you mentioned). I like when Death use this kind of chord in their riffs.

Behemoth were definitely the band of the night yesterday, they destroyed! Nile were poor, not helped by atrocious sound. Unleashed were cool but not enough old stuff was play. However they saved themselves with "To Asgaard We FLY!".
But yeah, Behemoth, streets ahead of everyone, Slaves Shall Serve slew.

Hey, you were there too? Where were you? I left after 5 songs of Nile. They sucked, and sounded no different to the studio material. Furthermore, the crowd did not get into Nile the way they did with BEHEMOTH. I'm aching from being in the pit.

They lacked energy, and basically did what they do in the studio. They didn't engage with the crowd like Unleashed or Behemoth.

And no, you're not the only one that thinks middle era Behemoth is better. Demigod is a good album, but not as great as everyone makes it sound. I really want to go see them this fall. I don't know if I'll have the money though. And it's in Detroit (as usual) which is a good 2.5 hours away.

It is hard to explain. Basically you just go crazy and start swinging your fists and feet in a fury trying to hurt as many people as possible. It's fun sometimes, but it is kind of meant to represent the freedom and uncontrolled rage expressed in hardcore punk music. It is not a metal thing, and hardcore dancers get the **** beat out of them at metal gigs.

Well, I posted this in the black metal thread but since that thread isn't visited nearly as often as this one, I will post it here too. I don't think many people have cared too much over there, and I don't want these uploads to go to waste. Me and the2stranger were trying to get some punk kid into avant-garde black metal, so I did this for him originally, as well as for anyone else who is wanting to check out these bands.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arcturus (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=292): This is the band that defines everything that avant-garde is. They draw influences from black metal, classical, and 'circus' music primaily. Many people consider them extreme symphonic metal, and not black metal at all, even though you can clearly hear the black touch in their older work.

Peccatum (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=1023): This is a very odd band created by former Emperor vocalist, Ihsahn. His wife, Ihriel, provides beautiful and haunting operatic vocals mixed in with Ihsahn's classic vocals. They are the only two constant members in the band. Very symphonic and strange. There isn't really a way to describe this band.

Borknagar (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=629): They are well known for having the three most talented folk/black metal vocalists that are around today. The original vocalist was Krystoffer Garm Rygg, who is the vocalist for Ulver as well. Then came Simen "ICS Vortex" Hestnæs who is now providing clean vocals for the band, Dimmu Borgir. They have finally gotten a permanent vocalist with the incredibly talented folk singer, Vintersorg. Who has his band named after himself which is very popular among folk/black metal fans. They are a combination of black metal with nowegian folk
