Now check out Autopsy, Nile, Cryptopsy, Pestilence, Dismember and At the Gates and then come back and let us know what you think!

I actually do like Cynic (A LOT), and I'll probably like some other DM once I hear more. That analogy was just horrible. I judge by the music (always), racists are prejudice, so they judge if it goes against their beliefs. Just because I don't like much DM I've heard doesn't mean you can compare me to a racist.

I just thought your comment on production was a typical non death metal thing, I didn't mean that you where a racists really but more that you can't judge death metal by production etc. I wasn't very logical but I thought that the joke factor was pretty obvious in my earlier post.

Not liking Atheist = bad taste, but I think that if you got familiar with death metal as a whole your view might change. There is so much you haven't heard yet. I think that anyone with an open mind can get into DM if you want to.

I'm bored and would just like to say that I think "Unholy Cult" might be the best DM album ever. First of all, it's brutal as hell. Second, the riffs are awesome and some are even catchy. Third, the lyrics are smart (and mature for a religion-bashing) band. Fourth, the vocals kick ***. (Ross is definately the best DM vocalist.)

Cradle of Filth, Dimmor Bogir and Dark Funural...

Is this deliberate? None of the above are remotely Death metal or that good. Going watching Primordial and Rotting Christ on Thursday - Primordial are an excellent band and although RC have lost the plot somewhat, they might play something from "Thy Mighty Contract" which would be cool!

Coypu, am I able to listen to music I get from your site, even when you are offline? Or if this is not true, something is wrong with my computer. I have downloaded a lot of music from your site except some of it wont play. Elements and Unquestionable Presence will but not the rest of the stuff I've downloaded. My player says,
"The path to the file is not correct
Windows Media Player cannot find the file. The server name, shared directory name, or file name may be incorrect.
Check the file name and path for any misspellings or discrepancies. If this error message persists, contact your content provider for the correct location of the file you want to play."
Can you help me out with this?

bruce: yes you should be able to download from my server 24 hours per day eventhough i am offline since the stuff lies on another computer which always is online. I just recently removed most mp3s there so try and update and you might find that I have removed the songs you tried to play. I guess the Mortician influence can't be escaped because of having 2 members and all. What's weiiird... if Roger can drum like that, what the hell is with the terrible terrible terrible drum machines he uses for Mortician?
Terminal Spirit
01-11-2003, 04:01 PM
Actually, Roger is no longer in the band.
August 2002
Malignancy is now seeking a new drummer to fill the shoes of Roger J. Beaujard. Roger will be leaving by the end of 2002. The band will record and release another MCD with seven completed tracks. Malignancy will try to play shows with Roger before the year is out! The most important thing is getting the recording done! Malignancy will NOT be playing on the Mortician/Scar Culture tour slated for September/October.
What's weiiird... if Roger can drum like that, what the hell is with the terrible terrible terrible drum machines he uses for Mortician?
That's a very, very good question.

MORBID ANGEL: New Album To Surface In September - Jan. 16, 2003
According to a spokesperson for World Management, the songwriting process for the next MORBID ANGEL album is "moving along great" and the band are planning a September 2003 release through Earache Records for the effort. A world tour in support of the album will commence a short time later. An official announcement regarding the identity of the group's bassist/vocalist and second guitarist (following the departures of Jared Anderson and Erik Rutan, respectively) is expected "very soon." MORBID ANGEL's last studio album, "Gateways To Annihilation", came out in 2000.

Swansong was not really a sellout though. The members were just getting into different types of music. I heard that they were starting to get into 70's rock a lot more and that influenced the more rockish, less metalish type feel than on their previous albums. I may be wrong I just remember reading this somewhere.

from what I remember reading, when Century signed Carcass, they screwed the band over by deciding not to publish it, so Carcass went to a different label to release Heartwork. then at a gig in London, they basically lost it, and the band split a few months after. I've heard that the band had signed a two album deal, so Jeff and Co. got back together and recruited Carlo to guitar for them and released their 'swansong', as you will. sort of like what Deicide did with Roadrunner
still a ****ing amazing band, though
or so I've read...

IS NOT THE ONE IN WHICH THEY LIE,
THE SAME OLD FACES,
THE SAME OLD ESTABLISHMENT,
THE SAME OLD LIES,
CROSS YOUR "X",
IT'S YOUR ONLY VOICE,
DO AS YOU'RE TOLD,
DON'T ROCK THE BOAT,
AND BUY WHAT YOU'RE SOLD....
.....BELIEVE THE LIE,
THE LINE THAT YOU TOE,
YOU'LL DO JUST FINE,
IF YOU JUST DO AS YOU'RE TOLD,
YOU BELIEVE THE LIE,
THE LINE THAT YOU TOE,
DOING FINE,
IF YOU JUST DO AS YOU'RE TOLD,
IS THIS ROCK'N'ROLL OR A FORM OF STATE CONTROL?
IS THIS REALLY ROCK'N'ROLL?

I'm sure I read that they were Satanists somwhere, but it might be the same place I read what I thought about Carcass :upset: but the lyrics are still Satanic based. i remember a website, and it counted the amount of times Tom said 'Satain' on all of the albums. it was something like 600 hundred

They made enough money from Swansong to not haveto work for several years according to one of the members in an interview so did pretty alright cashwise.
Since when is selling records selling out. I bet you Nile made as much off of the new album as Carcass did off of Swansong. They did not make the record to make money, they were already going down the path towards lighter music. You think Bill makes lots of money playing with Firebird? No, he does it because that's the kind of music he wants to create. Changing your tastes is different from selling out.

I'm not a Nile fan so that argument won't bite, Carcass may or may not have sold out but their new music made lots of cash and it also lacked the quality of their older efforts so call it what you want. "Changing taste" or selling out, the result was the same anyhow.

just because you are anti christian doesnt make you a satanist. slayer, morbid angel, and tons of other bands including my own sing about breaking away from the grips of enslavement that the catholic church wishes to impose. that does not mean we are satanists. i am an anti christian athiest with a sweet spot for HP Lovecraft/Sumerian mythology....so yeah.
but in the end, who cares. the music rules.

I'd agree with that. The music definately did not improve on Swansong, and they did sell a bunch. Even so, I don't believe that it was a conscious choice. Meh, either way Heartwork was the peak, it's sad that they didn't go out with a bang, like Emperor.

Flo, Dave cheats with his double bass and Flo can have far more overall skill and variety.
Chris Richards gets my vote but I really have no idea. Both are great.

A very good question. I'd say Flo is best, but Culross had some amazing double bass work, especially on the song 'Catatonia'. I'd say it's tied between Eric and Chris. Both play some very impressive fills and solos and add alot to their respective bands sound.

well....when amott and his cohorts played here over the summer....they came on saying "we are arch enemy" and had zero crowd interaction. neither of the band members made any eye contact, interacted with us, or did any handshakes or anything. they didnt even say thank you when they left the stage. they all also went right into the tour bus after the show. no autrographs, where as me and my friends chatted with Karl Sanders, Dallas Toller-Wade, Jon Vesano, and the guys from origin for a good hour and a half after the show. now that is metal.

Just a few questions here. I love death metal but I've always wondered things like....
Best selling death metal album of all time?
Highest ever hit on a billboard type chart? (I know a Dimmu Borgir debuted at #2 on a Norweigen chart I think)
Most successful band in terms of money?

At the moment, the new Children of Bodom album is Number 1 on the Finnish charts.
Not Death Metal, but Nightwish did extremely, extremely well over in Finland, with Century Child going gold in 2 hours!

Its not that uncommon. Is he really fast?? Because when you reach the crazy speeds which these guys do it is really impossible to get enough sound out of the drum because the pedal isnt quick enough to get back before the next stroke.

you trigger the kick so that the flow of air doesnt become jumbled and incoherent. triggering isnt cheating, but if you adjust the pedal so the beater is closer to the head from the start, thats cheating.
still....who really cares. it sounds cool. lets see you do it.

Why on earth is it cheating?!!! When your playing fast double bass ( And this includes Flo) the beater will not come that far off the head simply because there isn't time. So where his beaters are at the starting point is not important.
I'm a bit fed up of the whole "cheating drummers" thing. You can't really cheat on the drums. If you're playing a beat then you're playing it. I suppose there is a case for two footed blasting being cheating or the blasphemy that is triggering preset patterns, but apart from that you can't cheat!
For example, people often say - triggers are cheating because you don't have to hit as hard. Well, every live gig you see, the bass drums will be miced up so again you could hit softly and just turn the mikes up. The consistency thing is rubbish to an extent because bass drums are usually compressed so there is little volume or sound change.
Dave Culross is an excellent drummer, one of the best, so I think to rubbish him because of the angle of his beaters is wrong.

Sounds pretty sweet, man. Only problem is with the lo-fi play all most of the vocals are just humms. I had to listen really hard to tell that was someone actually doing it. Nice besides that (I'm not a big fan on DM vocals).

I liked it! The production isn't that great, but I've heard worse. You've got it where it counts, the song writing. I dunno if it was conscious, but it reminded me of Impaled, also a bit of Spawn of Possession. Lead guitarist definately has skill. Mourning of Sorrow sounds good. How was the recording done? Maybe I could give you some tips. And after that, I might know someone interested in your stuff.

Put simply, if a blastbeat is a 16th note roll between the hihat and snare then the bass would be doing 8th notes in time with the hihat (note this is you"standard" blast - there are variations). Some drummers use a double pedal to be able to go fast enough. Other drummers, notably Derek Roddy - check his thanks list on Malevolent Creation's "In Cold Blood" - feel that this is cheating. I myself don't care.

Derek(Or is it Derik?) Roddy is the man! His drumming on the Aurora Borealis albums he did was great.
Ron Vento has an unnatural gift for getting great death metal drummers to join Aurora Borealis. He's had Derek Roddy, Tim Yeung AND Tony Laureano.
