Spooky isn't Dargon. I exchange messages with him over at M-A, and he has sworn never to come here again, even to troll.

Dargon ain't coming back.
This man speaks the truth.

One another note, I picked up Obituary's Dead for a bargain $13 Australian! Great CD, except they only play the first 50 seconds of Chopped In Half

The only Obituary I have heard is Slowly We Rot. I like it a lot, what other albums are worth checking out?

I just spent a week at a guitar workshop, and I must say after hearing so many people playing the same Led Zeppelin rip-off riffs over and over, I'm very glad I'm a fan of metal. I did learn a lot, so the ever looping blues solos were worth enduring.

And I must say those last few pages were quite entertaining.

From what I've heard/read, Cause Of Death.

Alright, I'll check those out. Thanks.

Off topic question: Since lots of the stuff I listen to isn't tabbed out, I've been figuring more and more out by ear lately. When you guys want to learn an obscure song, do you figure it out or just not bother? I used to be really horrible at ear transcriptions.

I recently figured out the intro riff for Banquet in the Darkness, and I kind of like figuring riffs out on my own.

All by ear, but then I try to find an accurate tab to see if I was playing it correctly.

Yeah, that is a big problem. I sometimes figure something out, and then find out I'm a half of a step off the tuning or more and have to re-transcribe it.

I just pose a question real quick before i head out. For the july metal competition, if i decide to do it, should i attempt to do "A problem yet to be solved" by Anata, because i found an excellent guitar tab for it.

Reason i use the word attempt is because programming the drums is going to be quite a bit more than a pain and a half due to all the fills and weird half changes.

You haven't heard Mythic. Or Garden of Shadows. Or Estuary.

Too true, bit of a novice I think.

Always came across as if he'd only been into this stuff for a year or so. I agree, there are fair better flamers here and much more knowledgable people.
b/c that's how long he had been into it. haha
Some consider melodeath to be more on the melodic side, and melodic death metal tends to be still quite melodic but with a bit more of obvious death metal influence. Esentially its the difference between like Dark Tranquillity and Arghoslent.
Truth.
good choices, especially quo vadis.

/wonders where is ninjamonkey when needed :p
Haha. I was in Mecixo, sorry. I'm too lazy to search and find my old melodeath lists right now, though.
Oh, yeah. The search isn't working properly at the moment, since the server switch. Won't bring up results older than the switch, I think.
Will that be fixed?
I've got this really weird thing that happens sometimes where everything feel in slow motion but I can move twice as fast.
Hey, I have somethign like that too, but I never thoguht of describing it that way. I just called it mind-racing or soemthing. It used to happen to me more in the past though.
 This is the first time I've heard this by someone else. It has happened to me 4 times in the past but no one understands when I try to explain it. What the hell is it?!

Congrats Jondur!
Mic. :)
What did you mic? I thoguht you said you went from effects straight to the computer.
What did you use for the drums?
Fixed.
Thrash belongs in this thread. It's the extreme metal thread. I don't even know why the thrash thread was started, besides to get more specifically into thrash, because everyone knows this thread is for all extreme metal.
On the other hand, it makes me feel elitist to know them. And like them. Warp Zone = a killer album

It's not elitist to simply know and/or like a band. Besides, MANY people know Martyr.
Indeed! Why are they changing their name all the time?!
They aren't. It's a different band.
Haha...Gorgoroth and 1349 are coming to sweden in december. The gig is like 100km away, but it would be ****ing worth it. :p

I know that riff too. It's kind of awkward though, so care to share how you play it?
I don't really bother learning bands songs. I usually just make up my own stuff. However, if I ever REALLY want to know how to play soemthing, I'll look for a tab first. If I can't find it, I may try to figure ti out by ear, but the problem is that I never knwo what tuning a band uses, and that si essential. Eventually, I'll ask my guitar teacher to help me figure it out, but I've only done that a couple times.

If I wasnt worthless and could play the guitar properly I would do one of these since they have some particular riffs I adore:

Satyricon - Mother North (the slow part/second verse)
Moonspell - Alma Mater (the main riff)
Windir - A Warrior (the break in the middle)
Amorphis - Exile Of The Sons Of Uisliu (the first breakdown)
Dying Fetus - Institutions Of Deceit (the chorus)

I thought I'd mention I am not a big Lord Worm fan. His annunciation sucks and a lot of the time his voice doesn't seem like it fits. DiSalvio I'm not a big fan of either because I think he sounds like Peter from Vader but less bad. I think DiSalvo fits better than Worm. I also wish (speaking of Quebecois) that Gorguts would get a new singer.

Me neither. I like Cryptopsy a lot, but I think the vocals are the weakest part of the music for them. Worm just never clicked fully with me, I'm not sure why. Also, sometimes he gets off-beat with the music, and it gives me a headache lol.

I also wish (speaking of Quebecois) that Gorguts would get a new singer.

I think Worm did well on Blasphemy Made Flesh and None So Vile, and I also think that DiSalvo did well on Whisper Supremacy and And Then You'll Beg. But if you switched up the vocalists and put them on the opposite albums, I think it would sound like a horrible mess. With that, I like LordWorm for what he did with the first two, and I like DiSalvo for what he did with the last.

However, I really liked Lacroix's voice. :( Does he play in any other bands? Or did they just randomly pick him up?

Yeah, I agree. DiSalvio wasn't that bad, but Lord Worm is just ****ing Godly. I was just a little

surprised at MetalFan not liking the vocals; I've never heard anyone (who listens to death metal) complain about

Lord Worm's vocals.

I dislike them both and as you see I'm not alone :p. In fact it took me a long time to get used to deeper and more brutal growling. I couldnt even listen to Nile.

pantera is power

how?

of course older versions of subgenres of metal do not correctly represent the subgenre today,

hell yeah. Whenever someone asks me to name a representative death band, I dont know what to say :(

first, i dont know how you can even say cannibal* corpse and names like death or possessed in the same sentence

I'm a huge death fan but really older doesnt neccessarily mean better.

think he sounds like Peter from Vader but less bad

replace less with even and there's my opinion.

Worm just never clicked fully with me, I'm not sure why. Also, sometimes he gets off-beat with the music, and it gives me a headache lol.

Sinners Bleed and Beneath the Massacre are kinda close to Necrophagist (not that much though).

For brutal death and/or grind: you might also like Suffocation, Nile, Origin, Dying Fetus, Severed Savior

For melodic death: At the Gates, Carcass, Arsis, Quo Vadis, Depresy, Arghoslent, The Chasm

For technical non brutal death: Death, Atheist, Pestilence, Gory Blister

There's a lot of stuff out there actually. If you're not familiar with Death and Atheist I have uploaded some songs on the YSI thread.

It isnt nearly as tough as i had originally expected because while there are a lot of little fills and stuff, he uses the same ones over and over again so copy and paste is where its at. I was able to get the first minute programmed with little difficulty today.

Just hope ill have enough time to record the guitars bass and vox properly when i get back to the sates before the deadline.

Regardless of how well he can play, he's still an awful guitarist. It's more than just how fast you can play, it's about what you can compose(All of the Slayer material written by Kerry is awful). This used to happen to me a lot when I was a new metalhead. I felt I HAD to like something because it was considered "classic" and "essential". Thankfully, I dawned on me that it's silly to force myself to like something I dont and spend my money on such stuff.

I am no where near as knowledgable about about death/black/tech bands as you guys. You people know a crapload. :p

But I think I've got something here for you. It's a bit different from typical sounding tech death. I can't really put my finger on it, but it has more of a Death (the band) influence on it. But I guess that's not unheard of, especially since the drummer for this band is Richard Christy, if that rings any bells.

I cant deny that there are knowledgable people in here. As for me I just picked a genre (tech death) and try to listen whatever fits under it. Just stick around for a while and you'll become familiar with many of the bands that you might not know.

I'm already familiar with Burning Inside, it will be hard to name a tech death group that at least I havent heard. However, I dont know this particular song so I guess it must be off the Eve of the Entities (havent heard it all). Upload appreciated \m/

Hey guys... lately I've been listening to some of Isis (the early stuff) and I really enjoy it. The music is really sludgy, but in a good way and the vocals seem comparable to those of death metal...

So are these guys considered death or what (if not for the vocals)? They're definitely not brutal...because the music is not too heavy, and sometimes I think of them as ambient metal.. if there IS such a thing.

So what do you guys think of Isis? Not brutal enough? Not even death? Sorry, I'm not big into this genre, as I only listen to these guys, Meshuggah, and some more melodic death...
