I must find the new Ulver album...
I have been addicted to Perdition City lately and I am hoping I like their new one as much as Perdition City.

i would say the album it is closest to is perdition city, but even then its a bit of a stretch to try and compare the two for they are very very different albums

What is a good site located in the US that I could order CDs from? I am slightly pissed at Amazon at the moment and I hate eBay when buying CDs. I am seeking to buy The Sham Mirrors and La Masquerade Infernale by Arcturus and the new Ulver album. Along with anything else I have on my wishlist that I can't think of right now.

Post it on sputnik as well.
I didn't think Perdition City was all that great as a trip-hop album, but to go from black metal to that is quite an achievement.
hmmm, does anyone want to trade a DOD chorus pedal for some classic extreme metal albums? I was going to sell it to this dude, but then he didn't want it and now I have no use for it.

God that Maiden vs Pantera thread is so gay. Bunch of Pantera fanboys who can't face the fact that a)Pantera is not extreme b)they started off as a glam band and then ripped off Exhorder c)worshipping their macho, tough, attitude is homoeroticism in the extreme d)Maiden are gods who influenced every metal on the planet and e) that I know more about metal than them!
However, I am listening to Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract and am struck by just how great it is. The only other album that comes close to its sinister melodies is De Mysteriis. How did they go quite so gay after this?

It's certainly possible.
Although I am undoubtably right... would someone mind checking the basis of my arguement - Maiden are more likely to be respected by extreme metal lovers than Pantera. Purely because of the influence they've had.

Pretty much everything Maiden do is wicked. Pantera always have some good songs on their albums and a lot of crap ones. I respect Maiden much more as a band, but I really like Pantera because, I dunno. I just find their sound cool.

I've been following the thread, and yeah, you're making sense.
It doesn't help them that they keep arguing completely the wrong points. Like, you'll come in and give your argument actually relating to the thread, and then add "and anyway, Pantera are all clearly gay". And then all the replies read something like "mother****er dont ****ing say their ****ing gay pantera rule if anything maidens gay with their stupid *** high voice ******* pantera rule". Ignoring the bit that makes a difference.

(off topic but I can't be bothered to post in the daft vs thread) To be honest I don't rate Iron Maiden highly, I prefer some agression in my music and I don't find a lot in Maiden. I respect them for their influence but to me Pantera are a far superior band.
(on topic) Having seen them live I've decided that Capricorns and Sloth are great. Also good call on TPOG Jon, very heavy stuff. Also I need recommendations on something that equals the atmosphere on Blessed Are The Sick, there's something very sinister about it and I need more but have never found anything much like, except the slight similarities in other MA albums.

Another noob in the metalcore thread busted out the genre name's "thrashcore", "gothencore" and "mathcore". People like him and Kittens are the bane of bands actually being labeled legit genres.
He also came onto the forums saying that he really "microwaves kittens and puppies". Oh, not to mention how he only likes to listen to bands who would actually have the balls to "microwave a kitten" and then mentioning Slipknot.

i know i saw it, even though i may be in germany it doesnt stop me from downloading new episodes of shows, and for all i care south park could call Darkthrone true Romanian Art Metalcore, and i wouldnt care, because trey parker and matt stone are geniuses.
I especially love how they contradict both liberals and conservatives (sometimes conservatives) on the show. I agree with you, they are geniuses.
 I was watching reruns of South Park, and I never noticed the "Jakovosaur" episode. I didn't get it when I was young but now it's all clear .

ABADDON INCARNATE formed in 1994 with the line up as Bill Whelan (Guitar), Steve Maher (Vocals and Guitar), Rob Tierney (Bass) and Olan Parkinson (Drums). The purpose was to create an Ultra Fast Death Metal band, with the emphasis on hyper blast beats and a grind ethic that was not popular at the time. This was when Black metal was very prominent in the metal scene. Intensive gigging around Dublin this year saw them develop into a tight live act where intensity of delivery was honed to a fine art. They released "When the Demons Come" - a five-track demo tape that was recorded in 1 day at Dublin's Sonic Studios in 1995 - (Fortunately it sounded similar to Possessed's "7 churches" LP which was a total fluke on the bands behalf). It featured 3 songs that would later appear on their first album.
In late 1995 Olan decided to jump ship and join Blastcage in Britain. For one year they searched for a drummer and found none who possessed stamina or skill to play grind beats in a death metal band. Finally Bill took to the honour and sat behind the kit. Rob took the opportunity to spend the summer of 1996 working in Germany and Steve and Bill rehearsed for these 3 months in a friend's rehearsal room. They entered the studio to record a single track "Aeons of us Rising" which while never being released, except on an obscure cassette compilation, refined their skill at working in the studio, vocal wise and guitar wise. These 3 months were important in forming the core die-hard element that kept Abaddon Incarnate alive until today.
1997 saw Olan return to Ireland since Blastcage did not work out for him. Having no band and a deep need to play again, he rejoined Abaddon and they started working on the "Aeons of us Rising" Promo. This was recorded again in Sonic studios in Dublin. This came out with excellent quality and was only distributed around record companies. Season of Mist offered Abaddon Incarnate their first deal in 1998 and they traveled to Finland's Tico Tico studios to record the debut Album "The Last Supper". The line up at this stage was still the same as when they formed in 1994. The "Last Supper" was released in 1999.
After this a few Irish gigs were performed, and in the year 2000 Rob Tierney began to become disillusioned with the music he was playing and decided to quit the band. A replacement was found in Cory Sloan who was formally part of such Irish legends as Afterlife, Thy Sinister Bloom and Arcane Sun / Fifth Dominion. A tour of Germany was organised with Impending Doom. Around this time they also supported the major death metal act Morbid Angel and lesser act Impaled Nazerene. This was a success and gave Abaddon a taste of life on the road, which has brought them back out on tour regularly ever since.
Seasons of Mist Records proved unsuitable for Abaddon Incarnate so the deal was dissolved and a new deal was struck with old friends and countrymen Sentinel records. The band started redefining their sound now becoming more and more grind fixated. Songs were shortened to one or two minutes long and simplified. A new record was written and in 2001 they traveled to Sweden to Soundlab Studios owned by Mieszko from Nasum. It was called "Nadir" and featured 24 blistering grind / death tunes.
That year once again Olan became restless and felt the need to excercise himself in the art of leaving the band. Bill, Steve and Cory started searching for a new drummer for a second time, but to no avail. Ireland proved a dry source for Grind drummers. Eventually Olan decided he would like to return and Abaddon took him back. Tensions were getting hot now at this stage. To support Nadir a tour of the Czech Republic was organised in 2002 with Welsh band, Desecration. This was a great success and they returned home to tour Ireland with the Welsh Death metallers and Putrefy from the North of Ireland.
Now Cory decided to depart. Facing the prospect of finding a bass player Olan decided to take the opportunity to travel to Australia while Steve and Bill sorted things out. Left as a two-piece again in 2002 just as they had been in 1996 the two got the finger out and started to secure the future. A new record deal was hammered out with Dave Rotten's Xtreem Music label in Spain. A session drummer was found in the more than capable Jason Connolly from Irish band "Primal Dawn" Also Bass playing duties were taken up by old friend Brendan Roache of Sinister Demise and Kingdom among others.
With this line up great things happened in 2002. Abaddon Incarnate headlined the Carnage Festival in Switzerland and a tour of Spain and France took place. 2003 came and Olan had organised a tour of Australia with the help of Mark Streater of Extreme Noise Magazine. This offer was too good to refuse and Bill and Steve left for Australia to meet up with Olan and start the tour. Although the band were together again and all the gigs were a success, internal pressures proved unmanageable. Upon returning to Ireland, 2 farewell gigs, **** The Commerce festival in Germany and one in Northern Ireland saw the departure once and for all of long suffering member Olan Parkinson.
Jason Connolly was enlisted full time and Cory Sloan returned to the group. In the final months of 2003, Abaddon flew back to Soundlab studios in Sweden to record their third album - "Dark Crusade".

I agree, he is so freaking biased. I like him because he is funny and that's why I watch him sometimes. Try and find a copy of Heston's speech from the gun rally after Columbine, it's so different to what Michael Moore showed on BFC. It showed him to be this insensitive dickhead who, even though two kids shot up their school the day before, he was still going to have his gun rally. In the speech, he apooligses and talks about how they cancelled most of the events of the rally. Of course Michael Moore doesn't want you to know that.

Truth to that. He isn't a good leader IMO but he is improving very quickly. Unfortunately, I don't want someone who needs to improve to run my country, especially in a time when we need a powerful leader to bring the US back to the top. I am glad he is in office though, because of the current Korea situation. He is unafraid to fight (as is clear) and I think that is a place where force needs to be used. I don't however, approve of all the war on terror business. Some of it was necessary, but not all. I hate how Europeans get all angry at Americans for having had the initiative to begin a war on terror. Would they rather see more terrorism? It's just a shame that everytime the US does something small and dumb, the world sees that as justification to flip out. This is a time when global cooperation is needed and the fact that those countries that are supposed to be our biggest allies are dragging their heels is doing no body any good.

speaking of e-town, that reminds me of a story, so now its story time, new jersey style.
E-town concrete, is from new jersey, where i am from, and therefore they were pretty well known around the state even in their demo stage. Anyway their first album came out when i was in like 9th grade or so, and being a stupid 14 year old me and all my friends worshipped it.
Needless to say we grew out of it rather quickly, but we still had like all the lyrics memorized due to excessive overplaying.
Fast forward 4 years or so. My friend steve puts a loudspeaker in his car so we can yell at people as we drive by. We go up to Woodbridge to go to the record store Vintage Vinyl, where the one guy from e-town actually worked (although he had quit the band at that point to focus more on arson), and as we were on our way there we saw him walking down the road, and we get on the speaker and collectively start spouting out e-town lyrics, to which hes apparently very ashamed of and tries to ignore us.
Did this story have a point? probably not, but i was bored, and it might be amusing to some people.

I didn't post XUL in my thread because Karl Sanders plays the solo so I didn't want to give a false impression of the style. Granted, it could be Nergal but I figure keep it 100% Behemoth in the Behemoth sound samples.
Squirrel
05-21-2005, 10:47 AM
I suppose; but the background leads, some of the main leads, vocals and music are all Nergal so i dont think it would give a wrong impression as such, but you have a point i suppose.

Sanders solo is utter crap on that song much like his stuff with Nile. Xul, however is still an excellent song and the first lead (Nergals) is class.

I really like that solo to be honest, after those cool drum crashes, i thought that little break with the bends then they drop in the solo was quite cool and gave a good lead out ending to the song.
But thats only my opinion.

Yeah im with you on that count; i listened to Nile and wasn't overly impressed. I mean, i enjoyed listening to them, but i wasnt blown away to the point i was compelled to listen to more.
I had the chance to see them with Necrophagist, i was gonna go just for Necrophagist but they pulled out, so i didnt go.

Anyways, what are you gusy opinions on Finntroll? I have just recently learned about them and I have never found a band that I like as death metal but can still make me laugh at parts. They are pretty good.
Yeah, I like them too, they're pretty fun to listen but some people just take them too seriously and think they're lame :p
However, I am listening to Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract and am struck by just how great it is. The only other album that comes close to its sinister melodies is De Mysteriis. How did they go quite so gay after this?
Rotting Christ are highly respected band here in Greece, mostly because they're considered the most popular and successful (outside our country too) greek band. It seems that almost no one thinks that they've strayed from black metal nor admits (not even the band members) that they have gothic influences. I'm not a black metal fan, so I dont have opinion on the matter. What do black metal experts think?
I agree that Maiden is extremely influential, but I don't like them much.
Although a power fan, I dont like them too much either (except for the brilliant Seventh Son of a Seventh Son)
In the past week I've grabbed Melechesh's Sphynx, Mithras's Worlds Beyond the Veil, Coroner's Grin, Destroyer 666's Phoenix Rising, and Averse Sefira's Battle's Clarion, all for $9 or less. And today I found a perfect copy of the original release of Cynic's Focus album.
On its way home :). Nice picks!
how can you like the best DM band ever, Gorguts, along with **** like Mortician and six feet under! it's an insult to gorguts i say! ARGGH
haha, I've also seen Death mentioned along with $lipknot :p
Should I get Demilich - Nespithe? It's free off of their website
Absolutely! I hate the vocals but thankfully they dont appear too often :D
In other news, after a LONG time, I'm starting getting into more brutal death. Besides the new Nile I've also purchased an Origin album (the one from 2002) and I find deeds of flesh and dying fetus to be really fun!

I really like Demilich. The vocals aren't my favorite, but I do like them. The first time I heard them I almost started laughing though, because it kind of sounds like burping. Still, they're a great band, and I like the vocals more every time I listen to them.
To those who haven't alreayd: Also download "The Echo -demo" or whatever it's called. I like that as much or more than "Nespithe".

I havent had the chance to listen to it yet but now that you mentioned it I'll listen to this particular song before sleeping. Oh yes and my copy of it it's not the limited like I said, it's the digipack (I dislike digipacks) and has (had, now its trash) a stupid sticker on it saying something about Headbangers Ball (blah) and that Nile is for fans of Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse...I think Nile are too big now to be promoted in such a way.

The problem with people in this world is that 75% of them can't think for themselves.

lol, that's not even remotely true.
I disagree. I don't care for arguing with you about it because you'll clearly push me aside from the fact that you think I'm a republican. Even though I'm not a republican, being that ignorant about something is complete stupidity. I wouldn't call you a moron just because you have liberal beliefs. Why am I saying all this?
in response to me stating that Bush is getting better over time...

Indeed, arguing is futile (which is why I simply said "get out" instead of trying to start a huge argument involving fact/article posting, etc.), but I must address this for clarification sake: My response of "that's not even remotely true" was intended for "See, everyone hates Bush because of [Michael Moore]." It wasn't meant for the 75% comment. I agree that many people don't think for themselves. You made the mistake of eliminating the Michael Moore statement from the quote I was responding to, and I made the mistake of including the 75% comment in the quote.
And when I said "thank goodness the republicans are losing popularity," I was not implying that you were republican. It was just a related comment.

i would agree as far as my university back in the states goes. Although there are some informed political students there, the majority of them just saw farenheit 9/11 and jumped on this anti bush bandwagon.
For about 3 months afterwards, not a day went by when people would come up to me and say something along the lines of "I just saw michael moores new movie, and how the hell can you be a republican still?"
And after i explain myself, as well as correct all their misconceptions (one girl actually got the impression that G.W. Bush armed and trained Bin Laden personally from the movie, how i dont know, but she did), they usually didnt take it well and say that i am wrong and lying, or just walk away in defeat.
in summation i hope michael moore chokes to death on a ham sandwich mama cass style.

Get Blasphemy Made Flesh and the Ungentle Exhumation demo. When the new one comes out, it should be out this year, you should get that as well.
Whisper Supremacy sucks (except for Faceless Unknown and Cold Hate, Warm Blood). They changed vocalists, and with that they added a lot of hardcore and jazz elements to the music. In general, it sounds like crap and none of the songs are memorable.
...And Then You'll Beg is a bit better, but they still have the same crap vocalist. They massacre a song from their demo (Return To The Worms). They've got better songwriting in this album however; check out Shroud, My Prodigal Sun, and We Bleed.
None So Live is alright... it's got a pretty cool drum solo, it's well-mixed. They also changed vocalists from Mike DiSalvo to some other guy named Martin Lacroix. He works well enough to imitate Lord Worm.

For one, thinking that every one that listens to death metal is a "****ed up human being". Maybe some people like brutal music with an evil twist to it? So I guess every one that reads or writes horror or violence based novels are "****ed up human beings" just because they are not interested in the same thing as "normal" people are?
Also, death metal is not the only thing I listen to, I listen to pretty much any thing, but I do like my brutal music, I guess that makes me a serial killer now.
