Nah, it's not Azagthoth as in Trey Azagthoth, it's Azathoth which is a demon (and my black metal moniker)
I knew about the deamon with the name
I just wondered if it was that or Trey... :p

I know Legions was getting married (and already has a little girl and boy), so are you two the ones who are expecting?
And to give this some relation to extreme metal, my girlfriend had a laugh when she saw the credits on the coverslip for Pure Holocaust. It says:
Demonaz Doom Occulta: Guitars
Abbath Doom Occulta: Bass, Vocals
Erik: Drums.
Poor Erik, he couldn't come up with a kvlt name in time for the release. :)

The scan was inconclusive as the umbilical chord was in the way. The sonographer thought it was a boy though. I hope it is and then we can play football and drink beer. Much better than ponies and alcopops!
I don't get to post much as I've just started a new, non-internet friendly job but I still check on here now and again.

When I was 11 I think it was pop radio. Then came Linkin Park which was followed by a wave of nu-metal until I found Tool and then finally Opeth which led me into Gothenburd which led to where I am today. The only music in that whole progression I don't like is Gothenburg.

So I don't know if you've all heard about this site, but http://www.gauntletvideos.com has a lot of cool metal music videos on it.
Anyways, I wanted to hear some grindcore, because I'd never heard anything from the genre. So I d/l the only Napalm Death video, and I was amazed. Not at how good it was, but how rhytmic it was. So I thought wow, I'll look into this some more...
So I see this band called The Berzerker (I'm sure you've all heard of them) and they were labelled as grindcore. So i d/l their only video on there, and it started, and I was amazed. I loved it, and it was also way more rhythmic than I expected. So I was wondering if all grindcore was like this, because I was under the impression that it'd be much more....stupid.
I hope I made the right choice in not starting another thread?

"Cosmic Keys..." by Emperor makes me feel so wierd. The keyboard in that song has such a strange mood to it. It's niether a positive or negative emotion, it's like an inbetween one that doesn't exist. It's so hard to explain.
Cosmic Keys To Creation And Time?
I agree with the mood of the keyboards being neither postive nor negative, yet it is designed to sound amoral, as that way it matches the lyrics.
br3ad_man
05-07-2005, 06:57 AM
Yes. Amoral hey? Interesting.
Well, the song deals with ancient beings which appear to be evil. However, upon closer inspection, they are merely lacking in morals, rather than being truely evil. At least, that's what I think.

Yeah. I was only 19. She was 21. mmmm...older chicks :naughty: And since ballet was brought up a page or so ago...when she and I first started dating she was in ballet. She did ballet for quite a few years. She also did competitive gymnastics for years when she was younger (to the point her coach told her he wanted her to try for the olympic squad, but she stopped before then). So yeah...older chick+years and years of gymnastics+ballet=:naughty: X 1,000,000,000

Out of interest, which of these two do people here prefer; Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris or Cryptopsy - None So Vile? I just wonder because in reccomendations, the one seems to go hand in hand with the other. As much as I like Elvenefris though, I definitely prefer None So Vile.

Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris. More thought out and original. I also like the contrast of brutality and melody. The None So Vile technique is generally better (though the drums are debatable) but there are just a few things I like less. I think Obscura, Elvenfris and None So Vile should be recognized as the 3 quintessential technical death metal albums that can actually be found.

I prefer Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris as well, mostly cause the vocals and lyrics are so much more superior. Worm tends to write some interesting lyrics, yes, but the topics aren't anything special, and his growl is very irritating, I love the music on None So Vile as well, but Lykathea's style is just so much more original.

# Let's start off with the concept of the band and the lyrics. How did you come to choose the name Lykathea Aflame?
This name came from my conception of viewing the world and our whole existence. Lykathea is a certain level of spirituality and knowledge mankind is at now. So Lykathea Aflame is a poetic and symbolic expression for spiritual evolution - for when we'll finally reach "home."
# And how does the term "Elvenefris" fit into the themes and topics of the album? I was under the impression that Elvenefris was maybe a town or city?
Elvenefris is "home," the superstructure of Lykathea. Lykathea is from where we go and Elvenefris is WHERE we go. Elvenefris is basically God. You know, it's very hard to speak about these deep thing even in your native language.
# The lyrics to this album seem to be quite positive in scope, some might even say spiritual, as opposed to the darkness, negativity and shcok styled gore lyrics that are usually found in extreme music.
"Our happy and beautiful fate is unaviodable - the only existing hell is not to know that." Light and love (unconditional), knowledge and wisdom, sympathy and understanding, freedom and reconciliation, spiritual evolution in general... These are the main topics of my lyrics.
# Now as far as the sound of the album itself, I did notice some Egyptian sounds on the album and some hieroglyphics, but your lyrics obviously do not come from Egyptian culture for the most part. I am very interested in the subject matter for your songs, they seem to stem from religious and philosophical texts that are quite old.
In the times of composing the "Elvenefris" I was amazed and charmed by the old Egypt. This was because I read a lot about historical Romans and documents from the old Egypt so I was filled by the mysticism of those times. The other thing is that I like Arabian harmonies very much and they'll of course be utilized on the third opus. As for the lyrics they have spiritual, philosophical and ethical conception, they do not however come from Egyptian culture. Lyrics stem from myself, I'm not inspired by any philosophical or religious stream, I'm inspired by the beauty of God, my idea of him anyway.
# Although some of the designs of the music and artwork have Egyptian tones, I assume you didn't want to overdo the Egyptian theme to be called a Nile clone band. Are you familiar with Nile's work at all?
The artwork design is a multicultural synthesis (Slavs, Indians, Chinese, Celts, Egyptians, etc.) and it has to symbolize the whole of mankind with its history as one entity which is constantly changing and pulsating in the space of human cognizance of time. We are one, basically. The Egyptian design is one of many in the artwork, of course, even though the lyrics have nothing much in common with Egypt. When we did our first CD "Freedom, Hope And Fury (The Second Spawn)" in the times when we were called Appalling Spawn, I was impressed and full of mystical feelings by the Middle Ages. So I would say the artwork has a Middle Ages type of conception. I really don't know what the artwork conception will be on the next CD. As for Nile I heard them and they're ok. Egyptian intermezzos and standard old school death metal. I would say except for those intermexxos there's nothing new.
# When I think about ancient philosophy and mythology, I am always fascinated by the Egyptian and Sumerian cultures, though they didn't have much in the way of philosophers that left behind written works. Are there any Greek or Roman writings you are into, or any of their mythology? The Greek and Roman gods and goddesses seemed rather petty and jealous, self absorbed to a degree, while the Egyptian and Sumerian gods seemed more interesting, having a more mysterious and sinister overtone to their works.
Erst I studied many philosophers and religious streams but it's been a long time ago. In the course of time I crystallized my own specified belief and the gods of those old nations I take onyl as a mystical history.
# So how has Obscene Productions been as a label? It seems that smaller labels outside of the U.S. would have a hard time getting their bands bigger exposure. Tell us about how you got to the label and if you've garnered any good press for your latest release?
As I mentioned above we were previously called Appalling Spawn (from 1995) and under this name we did a demo "Bestial, Mystical and Spiritual" in 1996 and our first CD "Freedom, Hope And Fury" came out in 1998. We renamed to Lykathea Aflame in 1999 and of course released "Elvenefris" in 2000. This got us our deal with Obscene Productions. They are doing a good job for us, they are promoting us well and we have appeared in many magazines all over the world and reactions are beautiful everywhere. This year we were nominated for the Czech Grammy in the section hard and heavy and this was a great success of extreme music because no one in extreme metal bands have ever been there. As you know the Czech republic is home to quite a few extreme bands, the most known being Fleshless and Krabathor. We have quite a large scene here as well.
# You utilize the grindcore genre as a backdrop, though I must admit you are the most original of grindcore groups I have ever heard. Are there many band in the grindcore genre you are into, or do you consider your faster parts more death metal based? And have you heard any good U.S. death metal bands, we have been considered a home to a great many bands in that style.
You made me joy with your words...thank you. To say truth I don't know the borders between grindcore and death metal and don't feel comfortable by these analysis. I don't listen to grindcore and non-progressive death metal because I find there's nothing interesting for me. As for other bands in the U.S. underground scene I must say I'm not knowledgeable with it at all. I only heard there are a lot of brutal death metal bands but I'm not interested in this kind of music. I like only one brutal death band which was doing interesting music - Suffocation.
# I noticed you used a session keyboard player for the recording of this album, do you plan on adding a keyboard player full time? I'm assuming any live gigs would deem having a fulltime keyboardist a necessity?
Yes, we are looking for a keyboard player but it's not necessary for recreation of a sound live. We have playback machines with keyboard samples in them.
# Anything else you want to add before we wrap this up?
I'm happy that you enjoyed our CD. Thank you for space in this magazine and the interesting questions. Let your steps be blessed and guided by light.'

Yes, it is an invented word. The vocalist says the word in "Land Where Sympathy is Air."
And I have always said "L-eye-kathy-uh"
"eye" as in ...well..."eye"
and "kathy" as in the name "Kathy"
That is how he says it in the song too.

I've got this in my playlist:
Mutiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood
Torgiest - Devoted to Satan
Vlad Tepes - War Funeral March
just a few songs though. Just on Friday I had a bad trip, and evil music didn't help. Hell, I got scared listening to techno.
Anyway, after that I have:
Aphex Twin - Melodies from Mars, Richard D. James, Windowlicker
I don't know where it could go from there. I might go for Infected Mushroom or Squarepusher, but yet again maybe I would rather fancy Wormed or Celtic Frost.

I disagree. Elvenefris is great and all, but they lack an integral part of death metal; solos. A better contrast of brutality and melody is Mithras - worlds beyond the veil. My top 3 quintessential albums would probably be as follows:
Gorguts - Erosion of Sanity, Mithras - Worlds beyond the veil, and Pestilence - Spheres

A lot of early Death is more thrashy, but their later stuff is very progressive. Anything off of Sound Of Perseverance or Symbolic should be to your liking.

From earlier: I think I prefer None So Vile to Elvenefris. It's more to the point with no filler. Elvenefris is full of good songs, but not all of them are on the level of every song on None So Vile. Land Where Sympathy Is Air pwns any Cryptopsy song for me though.

Hehe, I don't think anyone here knows Basilisk, a solo project of Vintyr whom I used to talk to on M-A, but I just remembered listening to the last track on one of his albums, which is a clean guitar piece. With headphones on and the volume turned up, you can hear him humming along with the guitar piece while he plays to keep in time, it's so hilarious hearing him being ungrim.
Do you mean The Awakening Of HIM? I have to hear that for myself, I've never noticed it before.
