Having heard Wormed, I agree with Dancin Man, but I think the music was brilliantly done, and the vocals kinda just slip in there, and blend with the music, leaving every member equally important.

Being the computer nerd I am, i am very curious about this virus. If you could provide me with either a name of the virus so i can look it up, or an article (english or german, doesnt matter) about the virus, id love to give it a readover.
P.S. if you know where i could get the sourcecode of the virus too, that would be even better. :naughty:

The vocals are what takes the music and makes it catchy, even though you don't know what the hell is going on.
I've heard some people say those vocals are hard to do. I can do them, they're not hard. Just by listening to "Tunnel of Ions", you can see that it's the inhaling method.
It's a bit difficult to control that method, but seeing as the dude from Wormed has no articulation whatsoever... it's fun and easy to do.

Oh wow. I've just downloaded a track from the Demonic Plague - A Tribute To Death. It's the cover of Crystal Mountain and it's by a band called Waves.
It's absolutely incredible. I wouldn't have thought an acoustic cover of a Death song would work, but this is just beyond words of how good it is.
On that note, where can I find more Waves stuff? They sound really good from that quality, and if their usual style is like that cover I'm really looking forward to hearing more from them.

Anywho...so I downloaded Augury's album Concealed last week. I had listened to a couple tracks at home, but now that it's at work I've actually had time to listen to the majority of the album. I really like the music, but there are a few points where the female backing vocals are just annoying. They're not tacky or overdone (cough*Cradle*cough), I just don't like how the clean female vox can be heard behind the regular growled vox. Also, on a sidenote, I downloaded Callanish Circle's album My Passion Your Pain. Seems like they've been getting quite a few mentions around here as of late. I had actually never heard them before. I only listened to a little bit of one song but from that it sounded pretty decent.

The beauty of computer science is that even though im 4000 miles away from home, its still one of the few subjets that allows for extremely easy collaboration through distance.

I consider Slipknot what I call "nu-death metal", but then again, they aren't that easy to categorize. They aren't your typical nu-metal, they are heavier and more technical, but they aren't at that level of being a Headbanger's Ball "easy listening" melodic death/metal-core band. They are just in the middle. A commercialized heavy metal band? They don't deserve a title like that....
But nu-death metal sure sounds like a shitty type of music, so I'll stick with that. :)

I cannot see the death influence in Slipknot, even in the vocals. Sure, they are harsh, but they sound more like Kreator than Morbid Angel, if you know what I mean?

I kinda see what your saying.. I'm just saying the vocals are the closest thing to Death they have in them, and that's a stretch. The gore lyrics... however ****tily done, are another example, but that's only on a few songs.

I don't find the lyrics gorey really. I find them more angsty, and hateful than anything, save the line "I wanna slit your throat and **** the wound. Also, I don't consider gorey lyrics something that is essential to, or defines death metal.
And yes, the vocals aren't really death metalish. I was saying, they were the only thing that could be related to death metal.

I know, I know, and that line was the one i was referring to, lol. I know, Gore lyrics are more a tool of genericism when the bands are trying to be tough... not that I hate Gore Metal, I just think it's shallow and lame.

I remember Toozey used to argue that they were. I still don't understand his argument.
Um? Are you joking?
I've never said Slipknot were Death Metal and if I did then I must have been in some sort of idiotic daze, or maybe I was being sarcastic. Slipknot definately have some Death Metal influence, at least to my ears I can tell some of them listen to Death Metal but as a band they are far from Death Metal.

Totally agree. But even when it comes to vocals, they dont sound death at all. They're not death growling, they're annoying screamo-ish/neo-"thrash" vocals.

Can you breathe in and out at the same time? That's the point of the didgeridoo, you just need to be able to keep the sound going infintely.
Dancin' Man

That's the hard part. I'm still working on it but what is important for me is to make it sound like a digeredoo first. Next comes proper technique. I learned how to circular breathe once because I decided Kenny G had nothing on me. I learned one note on a clarinet and played it. I never got past 5 minutes but I had a basic understanding and limited ability to do it.

"The plan still is:
- Throw a couple of gigs here and there
- Record the three songs for the albums
- Split up
I told there's the 0.1% chance of doing a full-blown reunion. That won't happen, but we're doing something that I always wanted to do. End the band by ending it, not by fading it.

Write awesome parts. Make is as brutal as possible. Make your lyrics about machines so people think that the drum machine is an integral part of the band that a real drummer, no matter how good, could never replace.

Nile has pretty much said that the intro is a tribute to Candlemass. And no...just no. Six Feet Under is to death metal what Blink 182 is to punk. They are tied with Mortician for the title of official worst death metal band ever.
To that guy looking for bands like Amon Amarth, check out Carcass (Heartwork album), At The Gates, Kataklysm...basically all of the big name melodic death bands.

I like death metal mainly because of the precision and focus on the instruments. Not sure what is death metal and what isn't, but heres what I listen to
Children of Bodom
In Flames
Pantera
Sinergy
Meshuggah
and the list could go on, but I'll stop it there.
Does anyone have any death metal reccomendations for me by looking at what I like?

None of the bands you've listed would be accepted as 'real' death metal, I think, but most of them (Children of Bodom, In Flames, Sinergy, Meshuggah) are good gateways into a proper death metal start. The most obvious route for you I think would be to check out the bands usually mentioned in the same breath as Children of Bodom - Kalmah, Nother, Wintersun, etc - and then start with melodic death. At the Gates, Quo Vadis, Arsis, Eucharist, Arghoslent and Carcass (Heartwork album) should be a bit of a start for you.

Well, Pantera isn't death metal at all. They're thrash. Good band, just not death. As far as the others go...In Flames and Children of Bodom can be considered melodic death. Meshuggah I'm not really a big fan of, and I'm not really familiar with Sinergy. But...
Similiar to Children of Bodom:
Kalmah
Norther
Imperanon
Similiar to In Flames:
At The Gates
Callenish Circle
Ebony Tears
Arch Enemy
As for recommendations other than those, just browse the thread. There are literally hundreds of great death metal suggestions in here. But seeing as it's hundreds of pages long the odds of you actually reading through it for recommendations is pretty slim. So in light of that:
Cryptopsy
Lykathea Aflame
Behemoth (the newer few albums. Their old stuff was black metal)
Suffocation
Aborted
Carcass
Iniquity
Entombed
Unleashed
Asphyx
Death
Immolation
Kataklysm
Morbid Angel
Necrophagist
Sinners Bleed
Hammerheart

Energetic Disassembly! I love that album. Although the production is kinda annoying. What do you think of it?
Although I really liked Control and Resistance, I had never heard anything off Energetic Disassembly until today. I agree on the production matter. I'm fan of crystal clear productions where everything can be heard loudly and equally, with a little bοοst maybe to the guitars. But here the production totally ruins the album. All I can hear is the hollow sounding drums and the bass. I can hardly figure out the weak guitar on the background :(...I'm kind of disappointed but I will certainly give it more chances as my ears are virgin when it comes to weak productions (unlike black metallers :p)

"The production doesn't help the band either since it is not very clear and there are times when what comes out of the speaker is noise, instead of music. Especially if you try to play it loud. This is a mini CD that contains five songs and only 16-17 minutes of music. They are playing Death Metal with brutal vocals and their sound is very heavy. The guitar riffs in certain parts reminded me of Slayer (from the early years of the band), only played heavier and sometimes faster. The production is not very good and most of the times the only thing you can hear is an endless noise. Of course the music helps also a little since it is not the best thing I have heard. If I am not mistaken, Suffocation, have already been erased from the map since they have broken off. Well I am not going to miss them in anyway.

Opeth, Meshuggah, In Flames, Obitaury. That kind of stuff. And if you consider early grindcore bands death metal, too. Then, just add Napalm Death and such bands to the list, too.
But that's about the only death metal I listen to lately.
