I was listening to swan song by Carcass...some of the riffs sounded more like they belonged on a Corrosion of Conformity record...

That's a pretty suiting description. Swansong is pretty much a... Death Rock album. I like it for what it is. It's on the bottom of my Carcass list, but I still think Swansong is quite the rockin' album. :thumb:

Fantomas is indeed excellent.

Yeah, I dug it, it was just different. Death Rock IS a good description for that, man. I just thought that the vocals were a little harsh for that, but if they took that element away it wouldn't be too "Carcass"-ish. You get what I'm saying?

I've read a couple of reasonably enthusiastic reviews about them. Concentrating on the fact that they were Scottish, I think, unless I'm thinking of the wrong band entirely.

I'm just wondering, do people like Mayhem because they have really good songs? Or because they have 'raw black metal energy' or something. I've been listening to them a bit and they don't seem anywhere near as good as a band like Darkthrone or Immortal, let alone a band like Emperor.

Anyone else think Anaal Nathrakh sucks? I've got just one song, "Pandemonic Hyperblast". It sounds to me that if you were to strip down all the distortion you'd get a weak song with no emotion, and mediocre riffs. I don't see any great songwriting skills there, or anything. Anyone else agree? Or, someone could give me a sample of another Anaal Nathrakh song?
You dissin' ma music nigga?
Other good AN songs: Supreme Necrotic Audenance, When Fire Rains Doen From The Sky, Cataclysmic Nihilism, Avatism, Codex Necro, Submission Is For The Weak.
I haven't heard the latest album yet so I don't know what that's like?

By the way, I'm starting a new project, it's a Tolkien themed black metal project...I have one song written so far, which i will record today, no vocals yet as I haven't written any lyrics yet.
I'm gonna do some folkish sounding stuff for it too.

I am taking a break from my black metal to go back to making crappy offensive grindcore, totally ripping off Anal Cunt, but actually putting half decent music to go with it.

You need a bit of help mixing stuff, maybe you could read up on that. The production of those tracks aren't exactly great...

The drum programming was excellent!

duh, it's black metal :p

Seriously, I'm going to do some in a real studio soon, I have access to one for free whenever I want, so once I have about 4 or 5 songs written, I'll do them there.

Really good electronic song dude, reminds me of "Computer World" era Kraftwerk.

Cryptopsy is one of teh best death bands alive...Blasphemy Made Flesh...better than None So Vile to me, Lord Worms vocals are so gargled and yet so melodic and catchy at teh same time. None So Vile was great, but should have had one more song, then it would come in at 36 minutes, making it the best death album EVER!

I really like Gorgoroth, but you should really shut up. This is just the internet, remember? If you want to scare little kids, you should wait until halloween and go trick-or-treating.

None So Vile is excellent, Blasphemy Made Flesh has a good share of classics in it too. Both are death metal classics in my eyes.

I even got my hands on their Ungentle Exhumation demo. It's got songs from Blasphemy Made Flesh with a completely different aura.

Seriously, it's all totally old stuff, one of 'em is the first original song I have ever recorded, which was written (craply), recorded (craply) and mixed (uber-craply) in a couple of hours.

Another is a grind song was made using the same way as above.

The other one is a black metal song that has production so unclear, the untr00 of you won't be able to hear anything but fuzz and vocals.

Yes indeed, Frozen Shadows are ace. Have you heard their newest album? I've yet to get it. I've got Empire De Glaces (the reissue :( ) and Dans Les Bras Des Immortels which are both good albums. As far as the other question...I haven't heard any of Beherit's newer stuff but I'd say possibly Ulver's newer stuff. It's electronic so it may be similiar.
