Atheist have been out of print for a long time but they are working on releasing them. Peice of time have been released already and with some luck you could get that from someplace but I'm not sure where.

I think Varg is pretty much a stark raving lunatic...But his music is very good. His vocals are, IMO, some of the best in the black metal genre. The music is very atmospheric and his screams...they just send chills up your spine.
Mutilator: I'm on AudioGnome and WinMX both so if you have either of those, you can get any of my Burzum stuff. I have quite a bit. Songs to check out: Det Som Engang Var, A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit, Ea. Lord of the Depths, Erblicket Die Tochter Des Firmaments, War, My Journey to the Stars, and tons of others. Pretty much any of his older stuff. The stuff he has released since he has been in prixon has been all computer/keyboard/synth produced. It's more neo-classical than anything. It's great if you want some background music or something to relax to, but if you want his metal stuff, get some of those songs I listed.

has anyone here heard of Benediction? they're an old DM band from Birmingham in the UK, and their old singer used to be Barney from Napalm Death. i must say, they are pretty good at it. if you want to check any of their songs, try either 'The Grotesque' from the The Grotesque/Ashen Epitaph EP or 'West Of Hell' from their newest album, Grind Bastard.

:amaze: ummmm...Varg is about as UN-satanic as black metal gets. Most of his songs are more Odinistic. The only Burzum song that I can think of that even mentions Satan is Dominus Sathanas...and it's an instrumental. Varg wanted to get back to the pre-christian days of paganism. Anti-christian and Satanic are not always the same.

However Vikernes claimed to be a satanist back when he still liked Euronymous - the paganism/odinism came later. And I quote "Yes, We worship the devil....etc" from an Interview in Kerrap! ages ago.
Regardless of his religious slant - he's still a wanker. However he wrote some quality songs. "Zisss isss huhh WAR!"
I'm fed up of Satanists, to be honest with you. Everyone in the early - mid 90's subscribed to some sort of medieaval, hell fire and brimstone style Satanism, but then later on as this all got a bit silly - everyone seemed to start taking Satanism as some sort of Crowley-esque "Do what thou wilt" philosophy. It boils down to the fact that Satanism is not a true religion. The name Satanism means that you worship Satan, as in the biblical fallen angel etc. But then Lavey took the, oh so exciting image of Satanism (the baphomet etc) and made it some sort of metaphor for living life without the dogma of the church. Basically Satanism as we know it today is just atheism with black robes!
Yeah, I've heard Benediction, although I've always been a bit ambiguous towards them. They've been around forever and have had some good songs but a bit average on the whole. *gets all nostalgic* my band supported them in 96 in London - twas only my third gig! Apparently their singer is now in Bolt Thrower so I don't know whether they're still going.

Isn't atheism not believing in christ, satan, christianity etc?
If so then satanism and atheism would be completly opposite things.
To be a satanist, you would believe in satan, and if u believe in satan this would mean you believe in god, But being an ateist, you wouldnt believe in any of this.
On a different note, my friend brought arch enemys new album, wages of sin, with the new singer, angela, a chick! this album is awesome and i love the singing, but i also like their other stuff too, but what does everyone else think of wages of sin and the chick singer?

But that's the point! Most satanists in metal today (I'm discounting Deicide, Akercocke etc) tend not to say "I'm a Satanist because I worship Satan", instead they go on about freedom from society's morals etc. Basically they're looking for a mix between atheism and anarchism! Anyway my point is I'm bored of the Satan/metal thing, it's silly and 90% of the people involved are just kds trying to be "evil" and middle aged blokes trying to get laid.
On the subject of Arch Enemy - I think they're getting a bit... errrm .... poppy!? "Black Earth" was amazing and "Stigmata" had some good bits but "Burning Bridges" and Wages of Sin have relied to much on the solos IMO. Also if Angela was a bloke no one would have made any fuss about her because she's a very average singer.

Lord Worm is more than a vocalist. He is/was another instrument in Cryptopsy. As far as I'm concerned songs like Slit Your Guts and Phobophile are instrumentals. None So Vile is also one of the best albums ever recorded.

I totally agree. Since Lord Worm left Cryptopsy they have had something missing, even though "And Then you'll beg" and "Whisper supremacy" and both ****ing amazing albums.
Regarding "none so vile", it is very close to perfect and the only albums I like more than it are "Pierced from within" by Suffocation and "focus" by Cynic. Wonder what Cryptopsy's new album will bring...?

My guess is it'll be good. Somewhere between the styles of Whisper Supremacy and None so Vile. Intense brutal drumming, complex guitar rhythms with standard DM vox, but with more of Flo's shrieks. This is according to a friend of mine who saw them with Martin Lacroix on vocals when they played in Vancouver with Dimmy Borgir, Kriusun, and Diabolic.

I heard Open Face Surgery and disliked them, but that 30 second scream was cool. Then I heard Crown of Horns... that was quite amusing. I was laughing so hard when I heard it. I could never listen to them for the fact it's too "amusing" to hear them.
Now relistening to Open Face Surgery, it's a really good song... up until the vocals. With his vocals, it seems to take away from the rest of the music and is hard for me to concentrate on it, therefor making it sound like crap. If it wasn't for him, I'm sure I would actually like them.

vocalist i really love is Steve Tucker. most people are partial to Dave Vincent from stuff like Altars and Covenant, but Tucker's job on "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" is just so amazing.
heres a poll....which singer do you prefer for each band?
Cannibal Corpse my pick: barnes
Morbid Angel my pick: vincent
Cryptopsy my pick: lord worm

I'm pretty sure that the reason he is not with the band any more is because he got a well paid job at a brewing company and that Lord Worm was more into simple music and not the technical style Cryptopsy evolved into. I can understand that non death metal people have a hard time getting his vocals but for people used to vocals ranging from carcass to devourment should be able to understand the greatness. His vocals may be be primitive in some way but the brutality is unmatched. I would recomend any non beleivers to listen to Phobophile again.

I'm sorry if I don't bow down to him, I just think a lot of his stuff is very monotone. Sure, he does change it up a little bit at times, but he generally doesn't. The only "brutal" vocals that I like would probably be from Morbid Angel. I listened to that new Immolation song and I coudn't stand it. Now, listening to "Close to a World Below", the vocals aren't too bad.
The growling/vocals that I actually like would be the ones from: Opeth (Mikael is my favorite), Cynic, Atheist, Depresy, At The Gates, CoB, Kataklysm, Novembre, and Testament. I would name a few more, but I don't think you would approve of the more "melodic" ****.

LORD WORM RULES YOU ALL!!
at least thats what i think...
my picks -
CC - Barnes, i couldnt get used to Corpsegrinders voice, even though i prefer the new CC album to all the others
MA - Jared Anderson :D. no, really it would be Tucker. even though ive just got Formulas, ive had Gateways since its release, and found it superb. hard choice, that one.
Cryptopsy - duh, I wonder? LORD WORM RULES YOU ALL!!!!...oh, ive already said that, havent i?
Lord Worm, monotone? thats like saying The Berzerker's drummer is slow, ie. nowhere near, but hey thats your opinion.
by the way, has anyone actually heard the drummer for The Berzerker's record drum hit? i think he did summat like 19 hits in one second with one hand  . if so, does anyone have it online?

Anything by Morgan Ågren, he is a monster and you need to be deaf to miss that. But let him listen to the whole Sol Niger Within and focus on the drumming, he does some crazy **** there at times. He has done alot with a keybord guy to called Mats & Morgan, get some of that too.

Immolation will never be most popular but they are the gods of dark death metal and Nile, origin & hate eternal are good but compared to Suffocation they suddenly seem weak. And Immolation is easily to dark death metal what Suffocation where to brutal death.
I have also been on a Borknagar period for a whilw now, funny as it is I really dig the vocals which is rather unusual. They also have a sick lineup with Spiral Architects drummer and the bassmonster Tyr.

that is what amazon says but from what I have heard the album was supposed to be release 28th october. If you have got the album from amazon already then you are of course correct.

Corporeal Jigsore Quandary(From "Necroticism:...." 1991)

Just wondering... but what exactly defines Death Metal? Different people have described it as different things, is there any real definition? Or is it something that would just be a step above Heavy Metal with vocalists that growl? Thanks.
coypu
10-21-2002, 04:53 PM
I don't think that there is an exact definition of what death metal is. There are certain key elements though like the vocals but Slayer are basically a death metal bands but without the vocals so its hard to draw the line. I do however think that it cannot be overly calm or soft since then it transforms into something else like Opeth does and Fusiongrind etc.

i personally think decapitated are superb. i mean, what other 18 year old in a band can play a Jeff Hanneman solo and improvise it so it sounds even better? thats gotta be talent. true, saurons vocals arent as good as they can be, but the drumming and guitars are great.
on the subject of covers, what's everyones favourite death metal covers? mine are Mandatory Suicide by Decapitated and No Remorse by Cannibal Corpse(original by Metallica). and i must take back what i said a few pages ago, i now think that Corpsegrinder is one the best vocalists in death metal, but only from Gore Obsessed.

the life of yet another great musician was almost cut tragically short last night.
last night at my hockey practice....my team was scrimmaging. im the goalie. i crouched down to look for the puck in a scramble in front of the net, and a teammate got leveled and toppled over in front of me. his foot went flying in the air, and his skate came up and sliced through the front of my throat. i immediately doubled over and tossed my helmet off...holding my neck yelling "oh **** oh **** oh ****" i got up and started to skate towards the bench. the team yelled "pittzy whats wrong?" i turn around, pull my hands off my neck and ask "am i bleeding?" the entire team's face went white. a few yelled "holy ****!" a few others yelled for 911. 2 kids went off the ice to get the arena manager and to call 911. someone went and got a towel to put around my neck. the arena manager came and bandaged me up pretty good....trying to calm me down the whole time. i felt light headed, no loss of consciousness though. the EMT's arrive and put me into othe ambulance and drive me to the hospital....all while im wearing my cold smelly hockey underwear. the cut ****ing stings. the towel i had on my throat turned completely red. i get to the hospital, and im going to need stitches. lots. as the doctors come in to give me novacaine, i start getting a little crazy. i get really light headed as they lay me down and its getting hard to breathe. the novacaine needles ****ing kill, let me tell you. having them put into your neck, right next to an open gash. yeah....it hurt. the doctor and my dad were on top of me keeping me from shaking too badly and they put an oxygen/nitrous gas thing in my nose to keep me from calming down. 37 stitches in my neck. afterwards, he decides Durabond would work better, so he takes them all out. when he finishes, he tells me "1/4 of an inch to the right, and your jugular vein would have been cut. 1/4 inch back, and your esophogous would have been sliced. you would have bled to death on the ice"
so here i am, one lucky ****. i, and metal, live to fight another day. appreciate what you can experience in life, because in one second, i can all be over.

he have made 2 ambient albums also and they have some long songs on them, or maybe it was decrepitude 2. They are pretty enjoyable if you are in the mood but his other stuff is far better.
www.neo-modus.com , it is a file sharing program which kicks ***. Alot better than kazaa and thoose ****ty programs. The only drawback is that you need to share alot for the best hubs, the one I use now is limited to 20gb minimum share and 10mbit connection but **** it rules so much once you get in. There are other good hibs though that only require 1gb so it works for everyone.

spinning could confuse even the best of us, I once TRIED to tab it but... The song I usually psyche people with is Skin me by devin townend, it seems to have the fine ability to annoy people.

For thoose who on occation download stuff from my server I can recomend getting the songs I just uploaded. About 40+ songs that I digged up from my harddrive and most of them are not the bands you hear about all the time so with some luck you could find some new **** there.

I just wanted to stop it early, I have seen what happens once the spamming gets started.
I can't blame you for liking Meshuggah, they are one of the best bands ever. Make sure you get the albums Destroy Erase Improve & None, their best work by far. And Fredrik thordendals solo project Sol Niger Within, even better than Mehsuggah in my view.

I found DEI quite boring.... It wasn't bad, it just didn't have anything that was quite interesting. I got another song from some other album and thought it was a big improvement, though.
I would imagine its probably more interesting from a drummers view, Tomas Haake is amazing, possibly THE most underrated drummer in the metal scene today. The guitarist dont seem to do anything radical in their playing though, tending to go for a more repetitive droning riff, I think to enforce their whole industrial mother machine type vibe. (maybe?) Either way, it works for me.

that is the only one I use that have so low share limit, you can also browse around the public hubs and see if there is anything interesting there. I would recomend boosting your share to 10-20gb if possible, it really helps.

Atheist, I love the drumming of atheist and they are more technical + more musical than meshuggah so its hard not to love them
Cynic
Lethargy
Theory In Practice
Capharnaum
Gorguts
Martyr
none of theese bands sound like meshuggah though but they are all technical and unique and a must have for any fan of technical death.

Meshuggah bore me. But a band that use a similar polyrhythmic approach is Ominous from Sweden. Check out their website on www.omissa.com - I prefer them because they actually have some melody.
Also check out Acid Death who've been called the Dream Theater of Death Metal. Possibly not as complex as Cynic but I think they're excellent. Especially their debut album "Pieces of Mankind" - some excellent bass work as well (well sounds good to me but then I'm a drummer!)
Hellhammer has gotten into some nice technical drumming on the new Arcturus. The triggered drum sounds are a bit irritating but he uses a lot of excellent off beat hi-hats - The album's called The Sham Mirrors.
The drumming on Death's "The Sound of Perseverence" is second only to Crytopsy for metal drumming. Some really excellent drumming (and a really bad cover of Judas Priests Painkiller!;))
Hope that give's you something to check out!

something like 10mbit, you should be able to get about 1000kb/s or so. I rarely get over 1200kb/s on my connection with only one user but with several I can over 2mb/s which is pretty good.

Ron isn't exactly getting rich on spastic ink. I think he even got screwed on the cash from watchtower (which probably wasn't much anyway). So yeah he had a very low budget but it seems like his new stuff have alot better production so things are looking better. Swansong is Death Rock.
