I know that the old one was'nt close to being a black metal song. I thought since it was heavy and dark and evil sounding....it would fit but It did'nt

Solefald - In Harmonium Universali
Peccatum - Lost in Reverie
Opera IX - Black Opera Symphoniae Mysteriorum in Lauden Tenebrarum
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Pallette
All that for about $40.
I wanted Ephel Duath more than Embraced.
I changed my mind on the Embraced.

I WOULD put some of my demo up, but it is just too cult.
Well, it is on cassette and I have no means of getting it onto computer because my soundcard is homosexual.

So basically you guys are forcing black metal?
Writing any song is "forcing" music. Whenever you decide to write a bm song you are "forcing" bm.

I heard Choirs of Devastation a while ago, via a Forced Listening, and liked it a whole lot more than I like pretty much anything else I've heard by them, though apparently the band themselves look back on their stuff from that time and dislike it. I think they need a singer.. I also think they should calm down a bit with the new riff every 5 seconds thing. I mean its awesome, but if they get a singer, then I have no idea how they will manage to have him song to stuff that technical/fast.
Plus its kinda like Yngwie, it gets boring after a few listens because... yeah it just does to me. But liek I said, if they got a singer, they would be my favorite band... (well atleast one of them :D )

Yeah. I looked it up, it's from 1991. It reminded me of old Metallica, and, funnily enough thats exactly one way how Meshuggah have described their old sound too. I still prefer the new grinding sound by far though. It's just so unique. But yeah. That song absolutely killed. May invest into old Meshuggah.

Contradictions Collapse and None is a amazing album. The vocals aren't that great, far too Hetfield influenced. What really stands out is Haake's playing, just like any other album of theirs. Also this album is much more progressive than I was expecting, there are many brilliant solo breakdowns.

So, in my constant attempt to broaden my musical horizons, I took a mental analysis and realized death metal is easily my most unexplored genre of metal. The closest albums I have to death metal are various Opeth albums and Carcass' Heartwork (all tr00 death metalheads cry out). So, while I realize this could be more of a Music Recommendation Thread post, I wanted to ask in here amongst those who are truely knowledgeable in the genre. That being said, what are the essential 5 or 10 gateway type albums I need to aquire to get riding down the death metal road? Many thanks to any replies.

My essential top ten DM releases. Note: There may be better/more brutal/faster etc albums but without these albums I don't think you can say your collection is complete:
Obituary - Cause of Death
Death - Leprosy
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
Carcass - Necrotism
Deicide - Deicide
Grave - Into the Grave
Autopsy - Severed Survival

Although I am new to the genre myself, my 5 favourite death metal albums are (not including melodic death):
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Mithras - Forever Advancing... Legions
Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick
Deicide - Deicide
Death - Leprosy

The more extreme genres of metal have become my favourite to listen to, and also to play. I find the uncompromising brutality, lyrical and musical darkness, and overall technical skill of extreme metal very appealing.
My very favourite Death Metal band would have to be Cannibal Corpse, but I am also a big fan of Morid Angel, Carcass, Deicide, and Nile. On the Black Metal side of things, i'm not too knowledgeable about the genre, but I like Dimmu Borgir, and have recently started to get into Darkthrone, who kick ***. :thumb:

You addicts all. Wintersun is great indeed! Yet, isn't it a bit to low, dark and angry to be power metal? I mean, most power that I know, is like very happy, whith grand chorusses and overall, a bit faster as well.

Soulside Journey
Goatlord*
A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Under A Funeral Moon
Transilvanian Hunger
Panzerfaust
Total Death
Ravishing Grimness
Plaguewielder
Hate Them
Sardonic Wrath
* Goatlord was in fact released after Total Death. Everything but the vocals were recorded as to be originally released after Soulside Journey, until they scrapped death metal and went for black metal. The vocals however were recorded in a black metal style and released. I still class it as being there....I own the ones in bold :).
Is Revashing Grimness worth buying?

1988 - Land of Frost (demo)
1991- Soulside Journey
1992 - A Blaze in the Northen Sky
1993 - Under a Funeral Moon
1994 - Transylvanian Hunger
1995 - Panzerfaust
1996 - Total Death
1997 - Goatlord
2000 - Preparing for War
2001 - Plague Wielder
2002 - Hate Them
2004 - Sardonic Wrath
Thats the ones I know. But I think theres lots of underground Ep's and awful live albums, don't know the names though.
Stevie
03-29-2005, 01:39 PM
Preparing for War, I have and is a Peaceville cash grab. As the name would suggest it would be a way of hearing some old demos and stuff. Rather, there's three new songs (to me) on the whole disk. The rest (as the name would not suggest) are best of tracks, etc.
SSSnake...
03-29-2005, 01:45 PM
I've heard a few tracks of it long time ago. I didn't think much of it either. I like Hate Them though, and the snippets I heard of Sardonic Wrath was the kind of thing I'd expect of them this far into their career. I still say they'll never beat 'A Blaze...' , but probably because that album was such a gateway for me into extreme metal.

Decapitated anyone?
I don't like Decapitated much. I just find them really quite heavily boring :-/
They're actually confusing for me. Their popularity, I mean. Usually, even if I don't particularly like a band or record, I can see why others might, if you see what I mean, but with Decapitated I can't see what the attraction is.
My essential top ten DM releases. Note: There may be better/more brutal/faster etc albums but without these albums I don't think you can say your collection is complete:
Obituary - Cause of Death
Death - Leprosy
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
Carcass - Necrotism
Deicide - Deicide
Grave - Into the Grave
Autopsy - Severed Survival
Going from that, my collection isn't very complete at all.

I found a site with a lot of black metal demos, but most have crappy bitrate like that. After a few downloads, the site exceeds its bandwidth and you have to wait for a while until it comes back up.

For Spring Break, I actually went on a cruise here in the caribbean. It was awesome! Holy crap I'll never forget that. We went to Aruba, Curacao, Sint Maarten, and Saint Thomas. It was great! (We're going to have to sell the car, it was so damn expensive)
The chicks were all uptight though, so no *** :upset:
I've also been clean for more than a week... no weed (even though I got offered a million times on the islands). I haven't gotten drunk either, and I haven't smoked a garret for more than five months. I've had tons of caffiene though.
I performed my first corporal mutilation yesterday too. It's on my left thigh, a pentagram with an inverted cross in it. It's got personal meaning behind it, I sort of trace it whenever I'm wishing for something impossible. It's an inside thing, really.
I was really enraged when I performed it. I made the first two cuts with a dull knife, and that hurt like hell, so I wanted to finish it with a razor. I broke apart a cheap shaving razor and used one of the blades to finish the rest. After the first two cuts, everything felt really smooth with the razor.
Man, I got this INTENSE feeling of euphoria when I did it. I really liked it. I know it sounds incredibly cliche, but I felt like I was drugged when I did it. Literally minutes before I was absolutley enraged, horribly furious, overflowing with anger... then I carve this into myself and I feel like I'm high. I was actually dizzy the rest of the night, I don't think from blood loss because it only dripped about to my knee. Maybe it was endorphins or something.
So yeah. What did you do?

Good to hear you like the demo. The song with the clip in it... Ragdoll?
I got that from Boogie Nights, actually... The part where the son is fighting with the mother, she wants him to get the hell out of the house. I was having a rough time with my parents (She literally went berzerk, every day she gets a little more fried in the head... she broke a broomstick over my head and arms because I left some moving supplies on the floor) and I was inspired by that clip.

last night I got a new haul of death metal! 4 Cannibal Corpse albums, Butchered At Birth, Galery Of Suicide, Gore Obsessed, and The Wretched Spawn. (My friend did his work experience at HMV, free CDs :D ).
Both Butchered At Birth, and The Wretched Spawn are brilliant albums, I havnt properly listened to the others yet. The making of DVD with The Wretched Spawn is great, Webster gives a good interview it would seem.
I only need 3 corpse CDs to complete my collection (Bloodthirst, Eaten Back To Life, and 15 year Killing Spree). I'm having trouble finding Eaten Back To Life, does anyone know where I could get a copy? (I'm in England).

This should be very good, although when I talked with the guys they didn't seem to fired up about it. But I'm sure they will put on a kickass show anyway.

Ok, so last night at my second job, me and another guy were talking about music. He has decent taste in music (not too much death or black metal, but lots of classic rock and newer stuff worth listening to). Another guys hears me talking about metal and says he listens to metal. So I ask him like what. He says "I dunno...lots of stuff. Pantera, Metallica, old Korn, Slipknot" at which point I burst into laughter and tell him "Slipknot is Brittany Spears". He insists that they're all crazy and heavy. I continue laughing so hard I almost burn myself on the grill. The guy I was talking to in the first place is just grinning and shaking his head. So finally this guy goes back to what he was doing. Me and the first guy are laughing at him. So I go back and ask if he's got a computer. Turns out he doesn't, but he's got a regular cd player. I tell him "I'll make you a cd that'll have you running to you grandma." So last night when I got home I started making him a cd. Actually 2 cd's. I'm calling them "Jim's Music To **** Yourself To vol 1 and 2". Volume 1 is all death metal, volume 2 is all black metal. Here are the tracklists thus far (may have minor changes, but this is the gist of it):
Jim's Music To **** Yourself To vol 1
Aborted - Meticulous Invagination
Entombed - Revel In Flesh
At The Gates - Kingdome Gone
Lykathea Aflame - Land Where Sympathy Is Air
Cryptopsy - Phobophile
Sinners Bleed - The Ludo Game
Behemoth - Christians To The Lions
Iniquity - The Bullets Breath
Kataklysm - Point Of Evanescence
Necrophagist - Stabwound
Opeth - The Lepar Affinity
Suffocation - Torn Into Enthrallment
Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Death - Flesh And The Power It Holds
Jim's Music To **** Yourself To vol 2
Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var
Bathory - in Conspiracy With Satan
Frozen Shadows - Dans Les Bras Des Immortels
Darkthrone - In The Shadow Of The Horns
Graveland - Barbarism Returns
Emperor - I Am The Black Wizards
Immortal - The Sun No Longer Rises
Mayhem - Deathcrush
Naglfar - Horncrowned Majesty
Nazgul - The Pagan Westland Arise Again
Samael - Baphomet's Throne
Satans Blood - Lord Of Thebes
Thus Defiled - Rapture Of Twilight Burning
Behexen - Christ Forever Die
Craft - World Of Plague
Dark Funeral - Secrets Of The Black Arts
So I'll probably burn them when I get home today. He works tonight so I'll give them to him tonight when I go in. Should be interesting to see what he says on Sunday when we both work again.

No, it's not.
It some symphonic metal song, sounds very Dimmu Borgirish such as Pefrection Or Vanity or Raabjørn Speiler Draugheimens Skodde...
I personally think it's Perfection Or Vanity...both sound quite the same...

Hellhammer) will play on the next DIMMU BORGIR CD as a session drummer (as first reported here on March 30). The Norwegian symphonic black metallers had previously utilized the services of NILE's Tony Laureano and Reno Kiilerich (PANZERCHRIST, EXMORTEM, VILE) as touring members following the departure of Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH) in early 2004.
DIMMU BORGIR recently announced plans to re-record their second album, "Stormblåst" (originally released in 1996 via Cacophonous Records) later in the year. No further information is currently available.
