Yeah I am pretty new to Death Metal, and no one I know likes Death Metal, so, you guys are pretty much my only source besides myself

You'd think that wouldn't you? I know a lot of Death Heads, but I never realized they were into Death Metal, so yeh. Luckily my friends who are into heavier stuff don't shun melodeath.

Yeah, DT are really good, but I say Skydancer is their best album, but I'd take this to the Melodic Death Metal thread, a lot of people who post here don't like mentioning the "fake" death metal bands.
There's a melodic death metal thread?

please don't tell people to leave OUR thread. especially considerign DT is not "fake."
Why?
Because death metal does not stem from grindcore.

Not that you probably care what I think :p But i think the drums are kinda weird in some spots, and I don't really like the guitar. But thats just me :D
I'm thinking of posting one of my little riff things up in about a few days. But my recordings suck badly, so yeah.

I did the drums before I had any idea how I wanted it to sound, using FL studio. The guitar tone can't really be helped, I don't have the equipment to make it any better.

Technical death metal, with some jazz fusion influence. The most obvious bands to check out from there are Cynic (one album, Focus) and Pestilence (Spheres only), and a lesser known band called Alarum. Then maybe some later Death, and then technical/progressive death in general.

I want to go to the Behemoth show in Royal Oak. That is about 2-1/2 hours away from me, but it's the closest they're coming. Though for Behemoth it would be worth the drive. I just have to find someone to go with me 'cause I don't want to go that far by myself. I'd get drunk and either not be able to drive home, or I'd be sober enough to drive but it would be super late and I'd fall asleep trying to drive home.

Ok, I have seen quite a few people like Katonia on the boards. What is so special about them? If you like them, why? If you don't, why?

I personally don't like them at all, I downloaded a few songs and i wasn't impressed at all, they had stupid lyrics and the guitar was awfully boring.
Maybe it was just the songs I downloaded, but I will really really dislike them until I hear a few good songs from them.

No I don't.
Sorry, typo.
That might be why I might not like the music, but the lyrics still bother me. I mean from the ones I have heard, they are poorly written.
I'll try and find an example, hold on.

Oh yeah and sorry if I sounded like a dick in that post, I just read it again and it sounded like I said that Katatonia sucks and will never be good or something like that. So sorry about that :)

Ok these lyrics just seem kinda poorly written, to me anyway.

Always thought it was a lie
He went too far the ****er
It's not like I owe him money
This is different
So gather your strength and break free
Or you will surely die
Gather your strength don't follow me
'Cause I will surely die
The way my eyes cannot move

- Criminals, Katatonia

And I don't really like the singer either, his voice just doesn't appeal to me.
But does all doom metal sound something like this (assuming its doom metal after Bobo's post)? Beacuse to me it sounds like Breaking Benjamin or something. Not that theres anything wrong with them, just not my kind of music I'd like to listen to really.

There's a case to be made for Possessed. Though Seven Churches is really a thrash record, it could be said to have influenced death metal in the same way Venom influenced black metal.

I don't think so, not exactly, at least; Death's last release(s?) was a hastily released live album to try and raise money to help fight his health problem.

And yes, the Control Denied album is awesome. Haven't the remaining members of the band talked of doing a follow-up album, though obviously without Chuck?

He means Control Denied, which was Chuck's other project. He doesn't do vocals, a power/prog singer does. I like it, it seems to give Chuck more time to concentrate on riffs, which, given his already impressive riff delivery, is no bad thing. It always struck me as a mix of mid- and late-Death, with a different vocalist.

He's not annoyingly, Watchtower/Spiral Architect style either. He just has a good voice.

I also have Appalling Spawn's album Freedom, Hope and Fury. I downloaded it off LeperAffinity. Appalling Spawn was pre-Lykathe, with Ptoe and Corn. I don't know what to expect, except something very different. Since everyone is gone except Corn, and the line is compleatly different. Who knows, it may be excellent, or it may be bad. I don't think it's going to be up to Elevenfris status though.

By the way, would anyone happen to know why they all left?

In response to metal radio - There is a local college station that has a 2 hour extreme metal show every saturday night. Unfortunatly you have to be within like 10 feet of their broadcasting station to get it. The college's other station has a huge listening range but only play modern alt/indie/punk which gets old quick.

My playlist on random does just fine I think.

in your guys' opinion, what is death's best album?

Human and ITP musically
Symbolic lyrically
SOP emotionally (I also really like the vocal style here although I hated it at first), I think it lacks energy at times and it gets really repetitive but I also find it the most touching Death album..."SCAVERNGER...OF HUMAN SORROW!"
