Thanks!
Yes, the only vocals that I am truly satisfied with on that disc is on track 3 "Kill For Jesus".
I don't know how to limit the levels so that's why the vocals are strange sometimes. I did this all by myself, remember?

:) The riffs and everything are great. But the vocals do need just a bit more something to them....

mortiis played live though after he left emperor -well, he mimed and played keyboards to a background of him walking around some ruins ...
have you heard some of his stuff on black metal radio?
there's one song called something like "enscholled I krystal " or something that's wierd
just odd crystalline noises and echoes
Stevie

I've seen a couple of Mortiis videos. Hardly even metal at all. Not very good stuff. I did begin to enjoy one of his songs having watched the video a good 10 times or something...the opening "riff". That's it.

Some of Dimmu Borgir is awsome and some sucks. U guys r going to laugh at this - phucking King Diamond, yay, I love the guitar playing from that dude, their harmonies modulate unpredicatbaly, only thing is i hate their singer, he ruins the songs so much, that i just listen to the intro's now. If they could of just found a better singer they would have been one of the best bands. I mainly like death metal guitar + drumming, the singing thing is so...cheesy sometimes..if they can do it right then it is cool, otherwise it sounds lame.

Well, I just got back from being murdered by none other than Cryptopsy at The Pound in SF. The first band up was a local act by the name of Light The City (I think) and they weren't bad, had an At The Gates style thing going on. They were also all young, all around 20ish I'd say. Their frontman (er woman) was a girl sporting a Death shirt and a pretty mean scream. She could also actually growl too! Not any of that Angela Gossow stuff, she was actually going low. The two hardcore bands that followed sucked so bad, I only watched one and then headed outside for the other. It was like hearing the same breakdown for an hour. Then out came Cattle Decapitation, and I have to say that singer is the craziest guy I've seen. He actually looks possesed when he's doing his crazy as **** vocals, spazzing out, eyes rolling back in his head, and drooling all over himself, etc. Then in between songs he was acting like a normal guy. Very strange. Then it was CRYPTOPSY. They played through the entier None So Vile album, then a mind blowing solo from Flo, then Cold Hate, Warm Blood, We Bleed, and then there it was. Lord Worm came out with a chalise filled with worms and began eating them. Then he started feeding them to the crowd. It was one of the coolest things I've seen at a show, and the music the band was playing was uber-demented and totally fitting. I however did not get a worm snack :upset:. Then they ended with White Worms. I'm half deaf and sore as all hell from being up at the front and headbanging the whole time, but it's totally worth it. I got Lord Worm to sign a Cryptopsy sticker which is now adorning my guitar. That guy is some kind of evil genius or something, he's nuts. Meh, there's more but I'm about to crash out and sleep till tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I'll write some more later.
EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize I wrote so much.

Nah, I know it isn't bad, it works well for me, it gets the job done. :)
It just kinda sounds embarrassing telling someone that you use a program originally designed for techno etc. to get the drums for your black metal.
I am actually pretty good at it, when I made a pretty technical gore death metal track ages ago just for something to do, I programmed the drums pretty well.
However, for my black metal project (Gorlosk) the drums don't need to be complicated at all.
Quite alot of bands have used programs similar to it, and you would never have noticed.

Right now it's not done but these are the drums I did using FL for my metalfied cover of Mars, Bringe of War by Holst. Not some cheesy Trans-Siberian Orchestra cover either. Just thought I'd show you guys what I did with FL for drums.

Well there is a reason there isnt as much depth, the country has only been around like 200 years man, and everything before that had the same culture as a european counterpart. I mean im in germany now, and although it was blown the hell up in WW2 (although not all of it, i have been to a few cities that remained totally unscathed, like Heidelberg), there is quite a bit of history from here because there have been people living here for thousands of years, which unlike in the US, they werent driven off their land completely and almost completely whiped out due to a bunch of presidents wanting more land in the 1800s haha.
Just my two cents, as an american living in Europe, i understand your point, but i also realize how very wrong it is

My friends and I are doing Conversation Core, basically we play Minor Threat songs, but with the amp turned down low, and then just have a conversation over it. Kinda gay, but whatever.

Well, it's supposed to be worse than the old stuff... however, worse than old Immolation can still be ridiculously good.

not as good as the reaction when my band tear iento hammer smashed face next "rock night" at my school \m/  \m/
in our version I do a long deep growl at the start ...
so far the setlist looks like this ...
hammer smashed face
funeral fog
iced earth- burning times
pantera- cemetary gates(guitarist's choice)
then we finish up with the trooper by Iron maiden
should be cool and gives us a platform to work in my own compositions in next time...

I've heard like 2 songs and loved them but I can't find anymore. Bartender recommened them to me and I never found any. Very, very disappointing.
I also liked the song Bartender sent me and a couple of samples I heard. They're pretty fun and catchy, certainly not pure metal and they seem to be a "love it or hate it" band. I remember reading a line about them in metal hammer, it said something like: superdumber medieval clowns who suck ^%$^% :P...

Odd. The review of their first album in Metal Hammer was very positive. But then Metal Hammer spins on a dime, in terms of supporting/not suppoting bands, every couple of issues.

Anybody heard of the German band Fleshcrawl? I've heard one song, and its pretty good melodic-Death Metal (not Gothenburg style).
Yup. I have Made of Flesh and Descend Into the Absurd. I wouldn't call it melodic death. Just death. The newer stuff is much more melodic though so I guess you could call the new stuff melodic death.
Like Arsis sort of Melodic death?
That is, in code, how do they compare to Arsis, current kings of Melodic Death.
Fleshcrawl is not like Arsis.

Anyway, the vocals aren't always (in fact, often aren't) a big part of death metal music. At least not in the same way as other vocal styles. They're often more like another instrument.

Pop in Gorguts' Obscura album and it should help you understand how complex it all is. Then you'll have to realize that although you cannot understand that album at all, you can appreciate the songwriting and attention to detail that is paid to make it sound so chaotic and bizarre. It makes Led Zepplin look like amateurs in terms of interesting-ness (yeah, even the really awesome Black Dog timing in the intro). It's also a good band to use to try to show someone how the vocals are not the most important thing to listen to.

When I listen to death metal, instead of hearing someone inaudibly screaming "kill kill kill stereotypical death stuff etc", It sounds like just an extra drum or something. Like a drum that makes notes. It's very nice, and I prefer a lot of it to other styles of singing

Yeah, I know what you mean. It depends which band, though. Cryptopsy (cliche example, but it works) for example..even if you try, you'd be hard pressed to decipher much of Lord Worm's lyrics, so his voice works really well as an extra rhythmic instrument.
But then you do get vocalists like Chuck Schuldiner, or the guy from Arghoslent (I don't know either his real name or his band name) who it's actually possible to "sing" along to, which is great for entirely different reasons.
I had a really strong urge to mention Ross Dolan somewhere whilst typing that, but I couldn't think of any way to work him in.

Yea, I can understand most of my death metal, every word of it. But people who haven't listened to a lot of it wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Lord Worm or Atilla or Mikael Akerfeldt if you put a gun to their head.

There's a case to be made for Possessed. Though Seven Churches is really a thrash record, it could be said to have influenced death metal in the same way Venom influenced black metal.
Apparently there was a band called Morbid who released a demo in '83, but I'm basing that purely on the word of one man. Reliable though he is, I can't find anything else about them.
