coypu could you try and upload 'Burial' by EXTOL, cheers
new discussion - so you think that death heads or anybody who likes really heavy music are treated differently than others? as with what xAzagthothx was saying that he scared of some kids at school (nice one  ) i was standin in school with 'Winds Of Creation' on my CD player, and I started singing along (i can't help it, i always do), and everyone was givin me really filthy looks and everyone walked away. would that be discrimination because of the music i like?

i believe so, yes. being ostracized for any certain thing is the same as discrimination, but i dont really care. lol and i dont think it really counts for us metalheads b/c we enjoy it.

Spastic Ink : Mosquito Brain surgery, Just a little dirty, suspended on all fours, the 178 thing ...
Melodic:
At the gates - City of screaming statues, windows ...
Depresy - unpure romanticism part 1, heresy shadowsnight, maleficium, the night fall heaven's crash (opening of hells) ...
Cenotaph - Epic Rites, Crying Frost, Macabre Locus Celesta, Soul Profundis ...
And then you have an ocean of melodic bands that lack the power and emotion but I'll let someone else mention them if the like. In Flames counts into that grouping as an example.

Yeah, it usually does but you have to que a bunch of files on different people so say that you have 50 files in que, the next morning you wake up you'll have 5 full albums waiting for you in your download folder so it works pretty well if you have some patience.

Just copy it and paste it into works or word or something. Then read it. Make sure you read it, because it is one of the single smartest things I've ever read. I don't entirely agree with his thoughts that the underground is underground solely to seperate ourselves from society. But I'm not completely sure if that is what he was trying to say. Read it over a few times, and it'll make sense.

Happy Birthday Coypu!
About more people coming onto death metal, i think that the time has finally come where extreme music is getting its due promotion. That means more people are realizing the wealth of talent metal has to offer. For instance, the 2 years or so weve seen humongous achievements for metal:
The Extreme Steel Tour: Morbid Angel, Panter, Slayer PLAYING IN ARENAS. That was something never before accomplished.
Meshuggah headlining the 2nd stage of ozzfest. Now, you see Meshuggah on MTV, numetal kids raving about what amazing players the band has, etc etc. Their new album Nothing, while extremely disappointed (i actually lost the cd...dont really care lol) has been doing enormously well.
Hatebreed signing to Universal Records. Now you see true mosh pits on tv, kids wearing Converge shirts being plastered all over MTV.
Cradle Of Filth signing to Sony. Well...CoF really isnt that amazing, but its a start for the black metal scene to get major promotion and exposure.
Nevermore playing on the Vans Warped Tour. Classic metalers bustin it out next to whiny pop/punk retards. WHOAH DUDE LOOK AT THAT GUITAR SOLO!!! Nevermore slays.
Morbid Angel's song "Rapture" being used for a commercial for VH1's awards show, check out www.morbidangel.com for more info.
Metal is coming back my friends, and we are the true warriors.

also MTV2 Extreme Rock....it has Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Pantera (i heard), judas priest, Iron Maiden, other metal bands
btw what do people think of the band "Watchtower" I just read an interview with the guitarist from Spastic Ink and it was talking about that band (his old one) a lot
maybe copyu could upload some songs?

http://galaxen.net/~coypu/musik/MX/Watchtower/
I really love Watchtower, they where to the ones who inspired Atheist who inspired Suffocation, Cynic, Death etc. so their influences are all over death metal. The vocals is are VERY extreme and you will probably hate them but if you get past them and are into the real technical **** the watchtower will blow you away. The vocals actually rule once you get into them.
Prowler01
09-12-2002, 04:10 PM
I like the vocals. I've listened to lots of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Dream Theater, Rush, all types of metal bands so I'm used to most kinds of vocals. Even Iced Earths first vocalist......

Maybe abit similar to Devin Townsend but without the multilayers of weirdness (the softer Devin, not SYL...). And NO not even close to Atheist, far from even being close. He is however planning on reuniting Atheist so I hope he does since Atheist slays Neurotica.

Wow, I just listened to 2 whole opeth songs (14 & 13 min long) and I must say that I hated every second of it. Very weak with compete lack of aggression and they weren't technical or just brilliant enough to keep it interesting despite the lack of power. What is it that so many see in this band???

i like em coz they're different. you don't usually get many extreme metal bands using acoustic guitars in their songs. plus Mikeal Åkerfeldt has a sublime voice. but hey, i'm open to the many types of rock/metal, so i like most bands, its just Opeth are better than most bands ('cept Cryptopsy and Decapitated, of course)
anyway coypu could you try and upload a Dismember album? i've git 'Dreaming In Red' on mp3, but i can't find anythin else on KaZaA, or WinMX. cheers

I guess lots of people including me just REALLY like Opeth's sound. It might not be really technical but its original and is interesting. I really like the vocals also

I understand that you like the band and I respect that but have you dug into other bands that are abit more progressive and unique in death metal? There are plenty which all make Opeth look weak in comparison. Here are a few examples :
Pestilence (Spheres)
Atheist
Cynic
Theory In Practice
Rudra
Red Tide
Nocturnus
...
And I actually don't have any Dismember album myself so I can't help you there but try Mirc on #mp3_blackdeath , I'm sure that you could find some there.

All music I listen to have atleast one very strong element like extreme technicallity or pummeling aggression so the answer to your question is : not really. I just think that Opeth doesn't really have any strong elements in the music, they just strike me as boring and doesn't evoke any emotion in me.

I think Opeth is one of the most original metal bands out there. Sure, they are that technical, but they make up for that with sheer beauty. Coypu, I suggest you download "Bleak" or "Blackwater Park", if you haven't heard any of them. Also, I would like suggestions for Melodic death and technical but not so incredibly brutal, B/c i'm not into brutal that much. Thanks.

If you want good recomendations of bands that aren't that extreme then go here : http://web.archive.org/web/20010926153751/http://teufelstomb.com/ and then read all the reviews of bands that get 0 points. Like the sins of thy beloved for example, you'll probably like that band so check that page right now.
opeth sux ...the only good album was orchid and morningrise...everything else is garbage ...check out orchid coypu
The 2 songs I heard was from Orchid so I guess that the band just wasn't for me.

Atheist
Cynic
Theory In Practice
Rudra
Red Tide
Nocturnus
...
And I actually don't have any Dismember album myself so I can't help you there but try Mirc on #mp3_blackdeath , I'm sure that you could find some there.
None of those bands have any relation to Opeth so comparing them is pointless. Comparisons would fair in either progressive rock or maybe more atmospheric metal like In the Woods etc.
I like Opeth but I'm buggered if I can explain why.
Dismember are a truly excellent band. "Like an Everflowing Stream" is a classic moment in death metal.
ps The Sins of Thy Beloved are truly awful!

Focus is amazing, the only album I hold in higher regard is Atheist - Unquestionable pressence but apart from that Cynic is the ****.
Gorguts are just an amazing band, first they release to top notch technical death metal albums and then they reinvent themselves and release Obscura which really is something completely unique and amazing. Their last album where also good but never really got into it as much though.

How much they liked the bands... But lots of "good" bands have gotten very low scores there like Opeth = 0, In Flames 0-4, etc.

Failures for Gods is your idea of good production? hahahahaha. Funny.
I don't personally like Opeth, but Coypu, if you can't understand or see why people like them, you need help. You can't compare them to bands like Suffocation or whoever. They're not similar at all...and by the way, there are bands out there that can wreck them too. Some of the things you see as really technical can be ripped to pieces by some bands as well.

God production as in suits the music very well, the sound quality may be **** but the production really works well with the music. Similar to how darkthrones productions aren't the greatest but it serves the music very well.
Bands who can wreck Suffocation? Maybe technically but no one can touch them in the genre of brutal death. And no, the bands I consider really technical like Cynic & Spastic Ink are actually highest in the food chain, there are others like Allan Holdsworth at his best moments who can match them but none are above them. And I never complained about the technicallity of Opeth, I just think that they are a pretty weak band overall.

It does and doesn't suit it. The clicky bass drums don't help anything. Close to a World Below has better production.

Not so much, I generally don't care how technical a band is, I more pointed out that extreme technicallity could have made the band more interesting not that they sucked because they wheren't super technical.

concert review: Intervalle Bizarre, Houwitser, Monstrosity, Dying Fetus
while you read this keep in mind that yesterday was one of my worst days in a long time so this review may be harsh at times.
Intervalle Bizarre: well the only good thing I can say about them is that their vocalist uses many different types of growls.... though he is horible at all of them! I really wouldn't mind missing their show. Horrible!
next up were Houwitser. they were pretty good actually..... when they managed to be in sync which wasn't for most of the time. it really seemed like the band needs more practice together cause they only really managed to play two songs the way they were supposed to. those two songs were pretty good but for most of the time everythjing just seemed like noise.
next up Monstrosity. by the time Houwitser finished their show it was so ****ing hot that i had to get some air, after that i had some problems getting back in so i missed the start of their show. the improvement from the previous two bands was vary obvious. there were three things i really didn't like: monotone vocals, horrible guitar solos (most of them sounded like pop-rock solos from the beginning of the 90s!) and probably the worst DM drumming i've ever heared!!! anyone who plays drums for more than a month should be able to play that! but Monstrosity was pretty good.
and the last band on stage were Dying Fetus. i had big expectations from them and i must say that i was actually plesently surprised! they are just so much better live that it's not even funny. they played two songs from their upcoming album Stop At Nothing (i think) and all i have to say is that as soon as it comes to your local record store you should REALLY go get it. it actually seems that their new material is going to be better than anything thay did before! the whole place got crazy during their first song already! they were amazing!

"Reek of Putrefaction" and "Symphonies of sickness" by Carcass. I wouldn't sound right if they had been done properly, thus making the production excellent for the music.

Well it surely adds to the brutality, I have noticed that alot of metal works very well with ****ty sound quality after listening to radio KCUF. The songs sounds less powerfull when you hear them with cd quality then on the ****ty radio sound. All carcass stuff except Swansong is brilliant with or without ****ty production though but Symphonies is probably my fav anyway since the production is definately better than reek but still bad enough to fit the music.

If you think that mixing rock and death metal is a great idea then you'll probably love the album. I don't really hate the album but compared to their olderstuff it really is weak. You can see it like Carcass version of Metallica's Load album.
My score for their albums:
Reek of putrefaction 8.5/10
Symphonies of sickness 10/10
Necroticism 10/10
Heartwork 9.5/10
Swansong 4/10

6 Feet Under was pretty **** good. i love the groove **** they do. plus theyve got awesome guitar solos lol.
well the night went like this:
picked up my 2 friends...my cousin and my g/f and got to the place around 7:50. doors opened at 8. the line was out to the street. and it was raining. so we stood in the rain for an hour waiting to get in. in the meantime, we came up next to the 6FU bus...and Barnes comes out looking for weed. my g/f brought a dime w/ her in her bra, and one of her friends she knew bought it from he and gave it to Barnes in exchange for 2 beers. **** cool. when we finally got in we caught like 4 or 5 songs of this band called Death Threat...stupid mindless hardcore. i was pissed from standing in the rain, so i immediately jumped into the pit. BIG MISTAKE. lesson learned: never go into pit with slippery shoes. i fell on my *** 3 times...and i busted up my elbow pretty bad from it.
next up was Mastadon. i thoroughly enjoyed this band. not sure how to classify them. they had elements of swedish melodic metal, yet there was a mathcore Converge-type sound to them. i really liked them. they were wicked tight and those hairy bastards put on a **** good show.
6 Feet Under was next. they opened with War Is Coming. ive never really familiarized myself with them but i loved their show. i love the groove thing they have. barnes is a crazy mother****er. they are mainstream death metal, but i liked it. btw, they played one song i really liked but i dont know the name....the chorus went something like "you see your life slipping away" if anyone knows that song, let me know. they closed with Victim Of The Paranoid.
next up was Hatebreed. im not a big hardcore fan, but Hatebreed is awesome live. their pits can be **** brutal. they closed with I Will Be Heard. greatest thing about their set was halfway through, Jamey Jasta goes "alright, were gonna do it up upstate New York style. THIS IS RAINING BLOOD!" and they ran through a cover of the classic Slayer tune. SOOOO GOOD. i went crazy during that one. elbowed in the stomach, feet to the head, kicked in the nuts, i loved it.
i had fun. mosh pits and guitar solos rule.

once you find what you want you use the user with the shortest que and tyope his name like this @username, then you will get a list. From that you can paste songnames into the main chat (not user) and then you will enter the que, once your turn is ready tha download will start. You must change in the settings that you allow mp3 files and such things related.
I don't think that DC has a death metal channel but join 213.67.31.54 I usually hang out there so then you can get the music direct from me instead. Abit smoother if it works.
Hope that helps some. I can still upload **** to my server if there is a public demand but we can keep it to the more rare stuff so that you don't just get the standard stuff from me bacuse you are lazy...

I never got into this downloading malarky but I used to tape trade loads. Maybe I'm still a bit old school because it made finding new bands just that bit more exciting because you got something real in your hands. I think too many people just download stuff but don't then buy the albums they like. This isn't a criticism of anyone here - just a general observation.
ps I was well chuffed to find that my band's first MCD is being bootlegged in Moscow!!! How cool is that? Someone spotted it being offered as a CD-R and told saying that we should try and close them down. But I thought - hey he's paying money to promote our stuff! That MCD has been sold out for months now and we're using all our money to promote the new one so I think it's pretty cool.

Personally, I really prefer to have the original cd, not some burnt copy or have the cd on my computer. But downloading helps if I wanna see how a band sounds or in the case of Coypu's site, find something that is REALLY hard to find. Like some Atheist or Cynic.

Yeah, I always thought that Chaosphere lacked because they did a rush job so I expected Nothing to be really Dynamic with lots killer stuff in it but when I heard it I got the impresstion that the just did Chaopshere in mid pace with less dynamics and a more monotome sound without the real aggression that appear at times in Chaopshere. I think that they should go back to their old stuff and incorporate more of Fredriks spacy ideas that he so brilliant showed in Sol Niger Within.

I don't have it but I really want it.
Here is a short review:
Wake Up And Smell The Carcass (2001, DVD) 4 music videos, and two live concerts, one from the necrotism tour, one from the reek tour. The music videos are ok, but I really don't tend to enjoy videos. The reek tour video is just a slight step up from a bootleg, for hardcore fans only. The necrotism show is definitely the reason to buy this DVD. While the production quality isn't all that great (the first track you can barely hear the guitars for example), the camera work is pretty **** good, with good coverage of the entire band from a crew of at least 3-5 people. And after you get used to the treble enhanced bass deficient sound, it's a great show, with about 12 songs including just about their entire Necrotism album. A great way to see the band in their prime, they are still sorely missed.

I downloaded an Atheist song from your site, Coypu. I think I should give you my opinion. I personally thought it was terrible. I found nothing interesting about the vocals (in my opinion, just some guy with no singing voice growling), and the music felt really lifeless and forced. Like they were trying to be show-offy, but it just falls flat. I really can't imagine ever listening to that, and I REALLY can't imagine listening to just that and things similar to it. Just my opinion...

Simple music? SIMPLE MUSIC?! Are you mad? Have you HEARD anything by Zappa? I would wager not, because if you think it's simple, your completely out of your mind. There is a great number of Zappa's compositions that aren't humanly possible to perform. You may think that statement "goofy", but it's 100% true. Why do you think Zappa composed on the Synclavier DMS? His compositions were TOO DIFFICULT. Have you heard a Zappa composition that has no vocals? Did you KNOW there are Zappa compositions without vocals? If so, how can a song without vocals be "goofy", especially when performed by a full orchestra or 22 piece band of conservatory trained musicians. I think it's safte to assume that Zappa would NEVER hire anyone in Atheist, because they're cold, boring, and derivative. Your ignorance of what I listen to is amazing. You know 1 band/artist I listen to (Frank Zappa), and you just immediately assume I only listen to that. As a matter of fact, I'm not like you; I have broad musical taste.

Atheist music is more technical, it might be hard to readapt for you that all. What atheist song did you actually listen to?
Not sure what the video was called but their bassplayer used a pick and their drummer looked alot like the guy who plays with Allan Holdsworth at times, not sure what his name is but he is very good and he looks young too. Chad Wackerman maybe? It looked like him atleast.

I think you may mean the movie "Baby Snakes" if so...not a good example. Anyway, I don't think Atheist is more technical than I'm used to, considering I listen to a great deal of classical music. How many times have Atheist composed pieces of music that the London Symphony can't play as fast as it's intended (Zappa did)? It's really not worth arguing that one band writes more complicated songs than another, since it's pretty irrelevant to how good the music is anyway. I listened to "Brains".

As far as hard **** to play goes, Atheist is alot harder when it comes to bass. I can't judge the other instruments since I'm a bassplayer.

I can't think of a Zappa piece that shows off bass skill. It's 100% true that every bassist he ever had was top-notch, or else they would have been fired/never hired. Atheist focuses on bass, that's cool for them, but that's not the way Zappa is. Most of the difficulty is in the horns or the bells/keyboards. I also couldn't get that Cynic song to work, I tried to download it like 20 minutes ago.

Chris Richards of Suffocation is an amazing bassplayer, his work on Breeding the spawn is unreal and he is faster than anyone on the planet when it comes to finger speed, only Roger Patterson could match him since he is dead now Chris is the man.

Atheist doesn't focus on any instrument actuall but their drummer and bassplayer are incredible so the basslines are just very hard but keeping up with the rest of the band is not an easy task either.
