Varg says its complete BS, and what Varg says must be true.
But from his point of view, the book is really biased and not very research went into it. I don't know much of the whole scene, so I can't say anything. I should pick it up though.

I wouldn't say it's biased at all, if anything it's biased towards Varg because he probably gets interviewed more than everyone else put together. But the whole book is pretty much based on interviews, so it's just interesting to read what went on
bassaholica2004

Who is it biased for/against?
Varg says everything in it about him is untrue. He says the authors' reasons for a bunch of things, like the Church burnings, were wrong. Also he says that the people they interviewed for the stuff about him didn't even know him, and were completely wrong.
So its Varg's word against some authors'. I'm more on Varg's side, but thats because I like Burzum.

As far as I remember, one of Varg's criticisms was that an interviewee was "a pathetic Jew". I like Burzum too, but I'd never think of believing a word which comes out of Vikernes' mouth. Personally, I think it's more sensationalist than biased, it's just looking to shock.

I don't know what made me think of this, but I got a good laugh out of one of the really late night talk shows a couple weeks ago. I was watching it and they were talking about people to guest host. They named a few people and then the last person was "And if none of those people can do it, we can always ask the singer for the death metal band Danzig, Glen Danzig, to guest host". I almost fell off the couch laughing.

I'm in the middle of that book right now, actually. It's been going slow, though, because I'm also reading a book on religion and trying to wrap up a novel.
What book on religion?
As far as I remember, one of Varg's criticisms was that an interviewee was "a pathetic Jew". I like Burzum too, but I'd never think of believing a word which comes out of Vikernes' mouth. Personally, I think it's more sensationalist than biased, it's just looking to shock.
I'm surprised he even conducted the interview knowing the guy was jewish.

I havent been here for a week so I have a lot to say. Here we go:
for the trade thing: Both me and Bartender have sent the CDs to each other.
Ninjamonkey: I've heard of Daath, in fact listened to a couple of songs. They're pretty weird and this is a good thing! EDIT: also listened to your band's songs, you sound like talented guys!
for the age matter: YOU GUYS ARE YOUNG! Have you ever wondered why most people of this age are like "'tallica rulz! sLiPkNot 666" or obsessed with old, well know things while you are totally different?
in other news...
I've realized that most of my music is new (and mostly underground) metal and in fact I have little knowledge on "classic" metal. I also like modern productions much better but I havent heard anyone saying this. Am I untr00?
Heard that there will be a re-release of Demigod's Slumber of Sullen Eyes this year. Do you know anything?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "newer" productions, though.
Compare the sound of an album released nowadays with another one released back in the 80s. Some romantic people prefer the prodcution on the second one stating that it sounds rawer and more natural. On the other hand I usually prefer today's clean productions.
And what bands do you mean by "classic"? Do you mean Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc.? If so, I can relate to you about the Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. Besides Iron Maiden (currently I'm giving away their albums except for seventh son though...) they dont appeal to me either and simply I dont care, and I kinda hate this attitude: "If it hadnt been for these legends metal wouldnt exist the way we know it" and "All newer bands copy the older ones" etc...

Obscura is one of my top 3 DM albums probably. I love weird music, and this is the epitaph of weird music. Most of all, I love the bassist's tone. Yeah, you always need to cover a song of the 'big three'.
Do them all. The demo tape I am recording will contain Burzum - Lost Wisdom, Mayhem - Funeral Fog and a Darkthrone song, probably In the Shadow of the Horns.
My Varg vocals are surprising accurate, tonight we will see how I do at being Attilia. Or I could do them Dead style.
If I do do 'em like Attilia, I mean do it in his style, not copy everything he does. I would probably put alot of screaming in. I will still keep in the classic part though.

Okay, I just did Funeral Fog, tommorow I shall put in the vocals as it is too late to be screaming and growling. It is pretty raw sounding, the sound levels were messed up, so I had to screw about with stuff. Also, about two minutes before the end of the song I dropped my pick, meaning I had to solid tremelo pick for two minutes with my fingers. There is one part in the song that is out of time, the only way you can tell is that the crash cymbal goes off before the guitar is finnished the bar, then after that part of the song it magically goes back into time again.
My ears hurt.

Best joke black metal bands are Impaled Northern Moonforest and Thoth! No others can match their supreme awesomeness! Edit: This was to the burger king toothpick gauntlets comment.

It's hard to say exactly whostarted it off, because you have to determine where thrash ends and death metal starts, plus dates can be vague and misleading. As far as I can tell, it comes down to either Possessed or Death.
Possessed recorded a demo in 1984 called Death Metal, and the last track on their (now rather famous) debut album (in 1985), Seven Chuches, was also called Death Metal. Their sound is really thrashy, though, so they could just be credited with the term, and not so much the sound.
Death recorded a demo in 1984 called Death By Metal, and their sound on their debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, was closer to death metal than Possessed had been, but it was released in 1987. This is where dates can be deceiving though, since Death's various demos (two dozen or so over the previous couple of years) were a big part of the underground scene in that time.
So I think in the end people just have to make up their own mind, and obviously there are other bands that people will bring into the whole thing too (Hellhammer, for example).
And remember that badn that was going to let sometbody commit suicide on stage while they were playing a concert? What were they called?
It wasn't that the band were going to commit suicide, I think, just some terminally ill fan.

Whilst Venom's album is called "Black Metal", it's not tr00 black metal....they helped to create it, though were not. The same goes for Possessed and Death.

If I'm not mistaken morbid angel didnt use keyboards on altars of madness (1989). However, there were some instrumental tracks with keyboards on Blessed are the Sick (1991) played by Trey but there werent any on the actual songs.
Nocturnus however, had even had a keyboardist as a regular member when they released their debut The Key in 1990. So I guess they were the first to use keyboards.

I might do that song tonight, I already have the drums semi-prgrammed for it.
Oh, and I ended up working on this demo. It is red card for the cassette-box's cover. Black pen used to do artwork. Artwork contains a moon with clouds resting at it in the top right corner, and a tree with the sillouette of someone hanging from it on the left. Grass drawn all the way down to the bottom, from the middle where the tree comes down to the ground.
It is titled Demo-1 (original, huh?) and contains these tracks, although they need tweaked etc :
1 - Burzum - Lost Wisdom
2 - Mayhem - Funeral Fog
3 - Maligeist (my own project) - Mutilate the Innocent
4 - Darkthrone - Natassjia in Eternal Sleep OR In the Shadow of the Thorns OR To Walk the Infernal Fields
5 - Maligeist - (not written yet)

Well, that's because I own the only existing copy on the planet. It's my self-released demo, song list:
1. Fear The End
2. Doused In Kerosine
3. Kill For Jesus
4. Ragdoll
5. The Curse of Godless (parody)
6. Graves Of The Fathers (Cryptopsy cover)

Man, the quality sucks... it's so necro that I smack my face into the floor every time I hear it. I really need to learn how to record this stuff, my levels are all off... if only I had done it in a real studio instead of using an answering machine...
I can make a copy if anyone wants to review it and send it for free. I'll just go to Office Max and pay a few bucks to have the artwork photocopied (because I really don't want to sharpy up another copy of that stupid design), pump out another copy of the disc on the ol' CD burner, and send it.
