I am preparing to announce one of my favorite bands to a few friends of mine. From there, it will spread throughout the school and every death/thrash metal fan will have heard of Necrophagist.

I ask one thing of you. How is it pronounced? :( I don't want this band to be spreading around with knicknames of "necro fags" and "necro pheegst"

I say:

neck-ruh-FAJ-ist

the J in faj is pronounced just how it is in gadget

Right? Wrong?

I heard that the drummer from slipknot will be taking Frost's place behing the drum throne for Satryicon's upcomming US tour...how disgraceful is that. Satyr talkes about it on blabbermouth if you want to read it for yourself.

Either Joey should be given more credit, or Satryicon should be hated.

P.S. Which is the best Vehemence album? I want one. I just heard them the other day, very nice, very chunky, and technical, I love it. Its not as fast as most death, its more doom-ish.

Dear Deathheads thread,

He might be a good drummer, but yes that disgusts me in a way.
On another subject, does anyone know if there are Pentagram albums in cd form anywhere, besides the new ones? I haven't managed to find any, other than the Last Daze Here one, which is a 'best of' kinda thing. I want whole albums ****it!

PS: my band jams on Forever My Queen sometimes

i wouldnt post that if i wasnt serious lol. I think that is career suicide to bring a member into the touring unit who's presence will lower the bands reputation. They could have easily found another replacement. read it on the site if you want to see Satyr's comments about it.

Mortician released once more a concentrate of pure brutality, guaranteed to pulverize your weak flesh. The synthetic beat adds a machine-like feeling to the music while the low-frequency vocals are sure to perforate your eardrums. If you do not like this kind of (true) brutal metal (we are not speaking here about the latest mushy releases of Cannibal Corpse), you should stick to wimp-esque, pseudo-brutal bands like Cryptopsy or even Marduk and get a new haircut.

Haha... that is some over the top use of adjectives...

Actually, in this case it's probably going to help their career, but damage their credability, if you get me.

And for Vehemence, just pick one, both albums are quality and don't change too much in style. My choice of the two is Helping The World To See, but you can't go wrong with either. On a sidenote, their vocalist looks and even dresses like the rythmn guitarist in my band.

Dont get me wrong, they are good bands(overrated to me) but not exactly what I'd call Death Metal......Try listening to:

Sinister, Amon Amarth, Carcass, Arch Enemy, Six Feet Under, Mortician, Disincarnate, Vital Remains, Deicide, Behemoth, Aborted, Misery Index, Diabolic, Divine Rapture, Cattle Decapitation

Hey whatever, the cromags are sweet. I saw them twice when they reformed as Age of Quarrel a few years back. That was quite delicious. They played the whole album straight through, then did a cover of 12XU and bad brains' right brigade.

Lykathe are nothing like Gorguts, but an excellent band none the less. If you liked Obscura, Demilich bares some strange resemblance.

As for purchasing CDs, there really is no one place in particular for everything. It depends on what you're looking for a where you're from. I use about 6 different distros for different things, for example.

YAS U HAV OFFEDNED ME VARY VARY MUCH

Seriously, I have Elvenefris, and aside from the last track I've not heard a single riff that sounds outright "happy". The soft riffs carry a middle eastern sound and come off (to me) as very meaningful and essential to the bands overall sound.

Aye. Their clean parts works very well. The only thing I'm not 100% satisfied with is the clean vox.

About it being "happy death metal", I don't know. The spectre is much wider than that. I get more of a religious(god forbid)/peaceful/celestial feeling when listening to it, much like the feeling I get when listening to Cynic. It's awesome, Lykathè creates an awesome ambience, and that's probably the main reason why I love this band so much.

As for Elvenefris being a 'happy' album, I think that is probably does qualifty. Some of the riffs are definately very up-beat for death metal. The outro riff on Land Where Sympathy is Air pops into my head immediately. A Step Closer also has some very nice, melodic, and over-all happy riffs to it too.

But that said, I definately think that Elvenefris is an album that everyone should own, due to it's sheer awesomeness.

As much as it bears against me to say that I love Lykathé (because everyone and their bloody grandmother likes 'em just for the sake nowadays) I do. But it's still not happy death metal. It's just not the "dismember-and-rape-their-women" kind of death metal. To be honest I find it quite refreshing with a death metal(-ish) band that sings of something else or... err... should I say, has another theme? Plus, the drummer got one of the most gorgoues snares ever.

Problem with that album is that I don't know if any Swedish sites got it and I belive that if I order it from the States the plane/boat/whatever will be jacked by a mad-man and flown the ground/sunk.

Nah, I don't reckon so personally. They're a lot more technical than grindcore usually is, have more conventional-length songs, have none of the typical lyrical themes of grindcore, etc. When they're compared with, say, Nasum or early Carcass, they look more like technical metalcore or something. That's how I figure it at least.

Well, to be OT and honest I don't think there are any slow/mid-pace Nile songs. Where they actually play guitar/bass/drums but they do have a few ambient songs/intros. But I haven't listened to 'em very much. My best advice is to get their album(s). That way you can see which tunes are "slow" and which are not.

The beginning of Black Hand of Set, though if I remeber correctly the riff is a ripoff of Grave's Turning Black. Might be wrong though, haven't heard Nile in a while.

latest rumours concerning nile: their drummer will be replaced by a greek guy named George Kolias (nightfall, sickening horror). He was chosen among 40 drummers from all over the world and their new album will be recorded with him on drums. am I the first to say this?

****! what's this obsession with arsis, I've only been away for four days! I downloaded "sadistic motives" in August and I must say I was impressed but unfortunately I cant find the **** ablum! NJMetalMeister
10-15-2004, 02:49 PM
i wouldnt consider arch enemy or in flames melodic death, because quite frankly they arent death at all. Arsis would indeed be melodic death, but there is that hint of black metal in there. It is good stuff nonetheless.

Stoic
10-15-2004, 03:12 PM
of course arch enemy and in flames arent death at all but because they are constantly mislabelled as melodic death I subconciously consider melo death to be negative/bad. Any examples of real melodic death metal? I mean, I dont understand what makes death melodic. E.g. Death have melody inside and are memorable, same with sceptic (a bit less maybe) and the chasm but they are not supposed to be melodic death...Btw, any opinions on deathless?

NJMetalMeister
10-15-2004, 03:16 PM
I would definitely consider both Death and Sceptic melo death bands. Just because something isnt "supposed" to be melodic death, does not make it melodic death metal. The name is pretty self descriptive. The basis for most people of melo death though is Carcass's Heartwork album (which is very excellent).

ninjamonkey
10-15-2004, 06:08 PM
Melodic Death is Arsis, Arghoslent, Intestine Baalism, etc.

In Flames, Arch Enemy and the like ar Gothenburg-Styled Melodic Death. When some say "Melodeath," they mean this genre and not Melodic Death Metal.

I see death metal influence in "melodeath" although many call it "power metal with harsh vocals", however, wouldn't that make Children of Bodom melodeath? CoB is NOT melodeath. But they are power metal with harsh vocals. So, it doesn't make complete sense. I would call "Melodeath" death metal with power influences and harsh vocals.

I saw one of their albums at FYE once. It was only like $7, but I didn't buy it. :upset:

So it's not extreme metal, but some of you guys may be interested in this news.

Vintersorg has finished writing his next album already (yes i know the focusing blur just came out), and they are already in pre-production.

Let's hope it will be better than The Focusing Blur. The songwriting on Visions... was ace!

Superpeer, man, thanks for that, I don't play piano or keys but I got that perfected in about 10 minutes. It's a lot easier than I thought. Nice one.

I was expecting the piano tab to be actual sheet music style. I suck at reading tab. I can read sheet music a lot better.

I took piano lessons for around 7 years when I was younger. I went to local and state competitions. I could have gone to nationals, but that would have required travel. I wish I still had a piano, but I can't afford a good one and even if I could I don't have any place to put it.

Was it one of the large pianos? Or those smaller ones with only a few octaves?

(Hope you know what I mean, my musical theory is a little bit rusty.)

LegionsofMarduk
10-18-2004, 06:31 PM
No I took lessons on an actual full size piano. Not a keyboard. My instructor had a full size baby grand at her house and we had an upright at my house.

Riva

Cool. I did piano for about 3 years, from when I was 8 to when I was 11. But my teacher moved away, and so I never kept doing it.

LegionsofMarduk
10-18-2004, 08:10 PM
I really enjoyed playing, I just didn't like taking lessons. I had to stop for about 3 months because I broke my arm and I just never went back. Now I really wish I had kept it up.

sensitiveorgan00
10-18-2004, 08:17 PM

You should go pick up a keyboard, you're bound to have space for one of those at least.

I liked The Focusing Blur :upset:

I also like it, but it was far from being perfect. The album suffered from a lack of high-quality material combined with a lot of oddities so you had to suffer through a lot of half-assed parts to get to a good one. Visions From The Spiral Generator were much better where I actually liked whole songs, and not just part of songs. Also, the basslines were much better on that album, I think Steve DiGiorgio did a mediocre job on The Focusing Blur.

Cardboard Headgear
10-19-2004, 01:25 AM
Still, DiGiorgio doing a mediocre job is miles above what most bass players do.

Guitar, although I suck for as long as I've been playing.

You should go pick up a keyboard, you're bound to have space for one of those at least.

It's not just a lack of space. It's a lack of money. Hopefully next year I'll be looking at building a house so I'll have the space. Then it'll just be an issue of coming up with the cash.

She doesn't look like a death metal fan, I know, but she's a metalhead for sure. Try to keep the masturbating at an acceptable level.

I was expecting the piano tab to be actual sheet music style. I suck at reading tab. I can read sheet music a lot better.

Well, she could draw it out and all and she doesn't have a scanner, plus I'm not sure if those sites accept actual sheet music.

Exactly. Death and Black ranges the spectrum from satanism and paganism to world issues such as famine and war, to day-to-day things. It isn't suicide music at all.
