Does anyone here like early Therion, when they were still Death metal (They're great now as well, but that wouldn't fit in the Death heads thread) ?
I have one of their first albums, and it's good. Fairly simple Death metal with a touch of symphony.

Picked up Morbid Angel "Covenant" (at last) and Decapitated "Winds of Creation" the other day. I have to say I think Winds... beats the hell out of Decapitated's other two, the production on it sounds so much more alive. Covenant is great as expected. I got them at Resurrection Records in Camden, and I have to say I could actually spend an absolute fortune in there, so much stuff I wanted, everywhere I looked. I saw an Unsilence cd in there too, but didn't have any more cash to pick it up. Shame.
Now I'm looking forward to Obituary and Dissection live. Already got my Obituary ticket. Dissection are playing London on December 14th I believe at the Scala, for anyone who doesn't know.

Hey FaceMelter, you thread got closed, but I wanted to tell you I think you've got a great idea. I'm not a great designer, but I'd help you if you needed it.
Also, what are some good Brutal GoreGrind bands? I found Stabwound already, anyothers is the genre too new?
What was the thread about?
I got DC++, how many of you are using it?

My favorite Sub Genre of death metal is Melodic Death, like In Flames, Soilwork, Kalmah, Nightrage, At the gates, Arch enemy, dark tranquillity, edge of sanity, hypocrsiy, the haunted, the black dahlia murder, and the agony scene
And Opeth, if they are considered death metal

Does anyone like Kadenzza? I wouldn't even really call them a 'death' band as they have traces of black metal and cover various other genres of metal too but they're worth checking out. If you have time I recommend downloading 'Kamikaze Blows' from here. (http://www.kadenzza.com/sample/sam_index.html) :thumb:

Anyone here heard Ribspreader? They doing the 'lets play old school swedish death metal' thing, and for the most part it's pretty nice, though they sound rather a bit too much like Bloodbath. Oh well, more of a good thing I suppose. Facebreaker is another band I just heard, also good stuff, though I've only heard two songs, so maybe the rest are trash.

Hey all. I'm still in Houston. I'm getting a bit worried though. Hurricane Ivan looped back around and is coming around again. It's heading straight for Houston. We have a tropical storm warning and parts of Texas around Kemah and Galveston Bay (just about 20 minutes away from where I'm at!) are already flooding. We went down to Kemah last night and the water was up to the bottom of the dock. It's usually about 4-6 feet below the docks!!! Hopefully I'll still be able to fly out tomorrow. I'm hoping so anyway.
Anywho...nothing doing with music down here. I almost went to a Seven Mary Three concert on Saturday (it's a concert...c'mon), but I got stuck in traffic and finally just went to Kemah and got hammered at the bar. Then went to another bar with the bartender from the first bar and got even more plastered. I did go to a little music shop though and played a couple of guitars. It was a really small store. They didn't have much. But it was still cool. Oh well...I should probably get to work. I want to get done early today so I can pack and get ready to fly out tomorrow. Later all.

So, I got the rest of Epitaph now. When I listened to it all I basically creamed my pants. Are they still using a drum machine? It sounds like it. anyways not much can be said for the album except MUHAMMAD IST GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111ONE
Nevermind, I just found that some Sanchez guy or something is drumming. Also, I'm glad to see they moved away from gore lyrics. I used to like them, but come on there's only so many ways to describe having your testicles crushed by a hammer or consuming some fermented mucous membranes. The lyrics on Epitaph are much better.

I own the dvd and that's pretty accurate. Ihsahn makes up the majority of the dvd, which is a shame really. I'd like more shots of Trym, Tyr and Samoth, especially Trym. The dvd itself isn't too bad although they did some weird timings with the video and the audio, for example in Night of the Graveless Souls they sometimes show pieces of Trym drumming, but the video of him his out of sync with the music... but it's the closest thing to Emperor live we're gonna get nowadays, so meh.

I really was not impressed by Serenity in Fire. Leave it to a Quebecois to write a song called Ambassador of Pain. Get Temple of Knowledge and Sorcery, easily Kataklysm's two best albums. Just listen to the song, The Awakener and you'll be convinced.

Indeed, I hope one day I can play bass like at the start of Only Ashes Remain.
I don't think Sweep Arpeggios (or any other kind of shred playing) should be applied to Death Metal though, it's original and impressive everything, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere or add anything to the song. After the first few listens of the disc, after the initial "Holy crap, that's some fast guitar work", you just wish he'd get on with it.

Of course I've heard it, since its what we are talking about. You seem to be one of these people who just jerk off to the first super technical thing they hear, really are you gonna bang your head all night to hundreds of arpeggios?
Not saying Necrophagist are bad they are simply not the best band in the song writing department and the music is hardly exciting.

Would love to! However it's highly unlikely! Even MDB have only managed to tour the US a couple of times and one of those was supporting DIO. Have got some ideas about maybe doing one of the US doom festivals but a tour would be just too expensive!

Greetings from Leeds.
Are Dismember worth seeing live? Rather annoyingly, there's another band I wanted to ask about, and now can't remember the name of.
Does anyone know of specific gigs, or places where I can find out about gigs, in and around Leeds?
Got my first Darkthrone album, finally, in Transilvanian Hunger. It's actually the only metal CD I've bought for a while.

I know I'm late, but I finally heard the new Amon Amarth album. Tis pretty good, though Vs The World is better I think. The overall sound of the album is completely different, somehow, not in a bad way though. And what's that I hear? Bass? Couldn't be!

I bought :
Cannibal Corpse - Live Cannibalism
Napalm Death - Inside the Torn Apart
On a somewhat unrelated note, I saw Slayer, Slipknot and Hatebreed on the same day, which is yesterday.

I just listened to some Gorguts and Immolation for the first time, and man, they rock! What do you guys think their best albums are?
Hey, due to a recommendation by LegionsOfMarduk, I just bought At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul. I was really lucky to find it, I think. Anyway. I really love Blinded By Fear and Into The Dead Sky.

For Gorguts, my favorite is Obscura. For Immolation, Close to A World Below.
I'm a fan. Most of what I like is Old School Death Metal, Autopsy being one of my favorite bands.

The Gorguts songs I heard are off Erosion of Sanity, and they are great. I love the singer's voice. For Immolation, the songs were off Dawn of Possession I think. I doubt my local store has these bands, but tomorrow I'm gonna check. Thanks for the recomendations.

yes without a doubt
are Autopsy worth checking out?
Yes. Severed Survival is a Death Metal masterpiece, as is Mental Funeral. Acts of the Unspeakable, ****fun, and the EP's may not be the best Autopsy had to offer, but they still destroy most Death Metal albums. If you want anything, hit me up on AIM. My SN is Scexorthesaw.

There is no reason why you shouldn't love every single track on that album.
Which version did you get? Did you get any bonus tracks?

HAIL!!
Are Dismember worth seeing live?
Yes. When they're on form (I've only seen one bad gig by them and that was due to really, really bad sound) they're one of the best live DM bands.

Darkthrone was a Death Metal band, you know. Soulside Journey, their debut album, is Death Metal.

I really need to get a copy, I've been putting it off for a while. I'll probably end up buying the newest Relapse re-issue. As for favorites, it's hard for me to choose. I change my mind all the time.
I don't know if you've heard them or not, but you should check out Cretin (http://www.cretanic.com). They play Grindcore similar to Napalm Death, Terrorizer, and Repulsion.

So i finally got my Ulver/Immortal - Vargnatt promo split. I must say it's very interesting, the Ulver is like something from Bergtatt but with terrible sound quality (worse than Nattens Madrigal by aeons) and the Immortal is like one long drum/vocal death metal track, though Immortal has three songs on the album.
Not to mention the fact that the distributors put a shot at Dimmu Borgir in the booklet, it reads 'Dimmu Burger. Absolute Gay metal. Support true black metal only!' and there is a picture of a fat guy with Shagrath's fast pasted on pissing into his own mouth. Absolutely classic, it's kind of hard to describe but i will try to get some pictures or something up soon.
Keep in mind this from 1993.
