Azagthoth - I'm always up for hearing more Angeldeath; I still spin Screams.. fairly regularly.

ninja - I've heard of both of them, but not any of their stuff, sorry.

Favourite Death album seems to come down to mood. Scream Bloody Gore if I want raw and brutal, Human if I want something more "cerebral" (can't think of a better word).

they're black metal

Watain is from Sweden and Drudkh is from Ukraine.

Black metal, I think. Watain were one of Terrorizer's recent champions for a month. I think Drudkh are on Supernal (the label).

alright back to the other question.

Anyone heard Watain or Drudkh?

Both are excellent bands. Drudkh is in particular incredible. So epic, such great atmosphere. Think folky Burzum with the enthralling capacities of darkthrone.

Get Nemisis Devina. A genre "must have" album. Excellent.

07-26-2004, 08:21 PM
^ for which genre? black?

The samples on the Watain site sound much clearer than the album i dled off of slsk. I even dled the album from 2 different people and the quality of the sound is the same (worse than the website samples). Did i get bad mp3s or does the album really not sound as good as the clips?

Yeah black metal. Satyricon - Nemisis Devina is one of the best albums in the genre IMO.

*Bump*

Not exactly death metal related or whatever, and not very different considering I hardly ever post. But this week you'll hardly see me even lurk. The plan -

Tues-Wed - Recording tracks for my bands new demo (which unless you're like Toozey or those who have a slight interest of 'newer' hardcore you won't like)

Thurs - Ma's birthday, plus HOPEFULLY seeing a girl I met a week ago and got on REALLY well with. Fingers crossed!!

Fri - Back to Oxford to mix down our tracks

Sat - Playing a gig... at a scout hut with sodding emo bands :upset: It wouldn't be too bad if they didn't all sound the bloody same.

Sun - work, which I need to do considering I'd have missed 4 days possible pay this week already by this point.

With me possibly back in on the Monday. I've seriously had just ONE day 'off' for the last month since I finished college :upset: I'm knackered. Never mind. See ye soon!!!

At the Gates - Blinded By Fear, World of Lies, Under a Serpent Sun, Slaughter of the Soul

Kalmah - Heritance of Berija, Heroes to Us, Burbot's Revenge, Evil in You

Children of Bodom - Everytime I Die, Children of Decadence, Warheart.

Can't help you with the other two. I'd go for Kalmah and At the Gates before CoB though.

mainstream music shops.

i was surprised how good the "mainstream music shops" around my area are.. i havent been to them that much, but i recently found out that they all have a "heavy metal" section. I even found Nightfall by Candlemass, and the "underground" record stores dont have that... i was amazed..

i think they noticed that there are people who dont like pop..

Well today i recieved my copy of the re-issue of "Onset of Putrefaction" and i must say i'm impressed. I usually don't like re-issues but this album is still excellent.
The drums are still a drum machine (nice++) but they added in some parts, making the fills more technical etc. etc. and the sound quality of the album is better.
Good stuff.

Earache Records has released a statement in response to reports that MORBID ANGEL have left the company and are actively seeking a new record deal. The statement reads as follows:

"MORBID ANGEL's contract is up and Earache hasn't yet picked up the option to re-sign the band. MORBID ANGEL's manager put Earache on notice about this. We have 14 business days to address this but it seems he jumped the gun after 14 days (not all business days), saying MORBID ANGEL are now free agents. Whether Earache will resign MORBID ANGEL remains to be seen. Either way, the official date is Friday, August 6th."

Indeed, and guess who has the new Necrophagist album. Me!
The pre-orders came a week before the release date of the album!
I must say "Epitaph" is alot different than "Onset of Putrefaction." Onset is the more brutal of the two albums (by far). "Epitaph" takes more of a progressive death edge on this album, don't get me wrong though. Epitaph absolutely kills!

Good stuff.

Later behemoth is totally different, almost a technical death metal band... kinda unique and very sterile/over triggered sounding

That Cryptopsy video is from the show I was at. Was right at the stage for their entire set until I got ****in dehydrated, had to stumble over the stage and passed out at the side  . That'll teach me not to eat or drink before a show. Luckily I only really missed out on 2 songs at the end.

sensitive, have you heard Amorphis?

If you're going for the death metal stuff then get the early stuff - ie The Karelian Isthmus or Tales from a Thousand Lakes

Other ones to try would be Grave or Unleashed. House of Usher were another less known band of similar style.

And Autopsy are the kings of mid- to slow- paced Death metal!

does anyone know what amps At the Gates used on Slaughter of the Soul?

edit: it appears at the gates have a new website. http://www.atthegates.se

and there is a cover of slaughter of the soul available. It soudns like they are making fun of at the gates though haha

Just spotted this in liner notes - a Peavey Supreme 160.

I just checked out Abandoned Grave, and whoa. Talk about snarling vocals. Sounds like a demonic pig...

And the vocals are so quiet. Muted. There's no power behind them.

Other than that, the band sounds pretty cool.

I'm actually listening 'Into Hiding' from Tales From a Thousand Lakes at teh moment. It has some good riffing, nice (death) vocals, mid paced/slow, but....teh clean vocals were horrible. It sounded like teh guy from Mushroomhead. Other then that, it's pretty good. I also downloaded a song from their later releases (can't remember which), and I thought it was lame.
I'll check out some of the other bands as soon as I can.

"Formulas" is arguably Morbid Angel's best work. For 3 units of money (dunno if that's pounds of euros over there) it's a real bargain. If you want to get into Morbid Angel for real cheap, that'd be the way to go, however if you really really like the band already (chances are you'd have that album, but...) and you don't want to sacrifice audio quality it'd be worth it to shell out for the CD

They're not that spectacular, but I still like them. I thought their demo, Nazi Occult Metal was good and can be downloaded in it's entirety here (http://spearoflonginus.host.sk/). Domni Satasni bores the hell out of me, but Nada Brahma is better. The Yoga of National Socialism I like, but is barely metal, more Reich and Roll.

And not all of their stuff is on vinyl, in fact I think only Black Sun Society is. I've not heard anything from this box, and couldn't say how good it is.

speaking of NSBM, ive always kinda been interested into Graveland... can any elaborate what theyre like?

Excellent. :thumb:

More elaborately you say?
Carpathian Wolves = skeletal, yet not minimalist black metal, great evil sounding vocals by darken, mid-paced with occaisonal synths to add to the epicness. Listen to Witches Holocaust.
Thousands Swords = More folk influences, bigger, more epic sound, on average a bit faster than Carpathian Wolves, Capricornus' drumming is tighter, songs are very well written. Just listen to Blood of Christians on my Sword.
Creed of Iron-Fire of Awakening = Hugely epic sound, often compared to Hammerheart by Bathory. Drums are extremely well programmed with the music by Darken to the point where the drums play the melody in parts of the song. Fire of Awakening and Memory and Destiny have some more head-banging parts to them too. A very triumphant feel to all three albums. Listen to Battle of Wotan's Wolves.

And for anyone's reservations about the NS part of NSBM, Graveland is NS in Darken's ideology only. There is not a single Graveland song that I can think of that deals with National Socialism or race.

No they didn't, they had a section called Tötenkopfverbände, which doesn't spell the same at all.
Don't go yelling about how names could be misinterpreted, we all know there is no connection between the nazis and death metal, and some of us are also hardcore marxists or anarchists.
And if you want to go that way, a little game for you: just count all the nazi symbols on any Slayer album. Have fun.
