Ok so it's been a few days since I posted. Lilpete-I got your cd! I actually got it yesterday but I hadn't been on MX since then. I'm liking it! Thanks again man! There were actually quite a few songs I hadn't heard.
Hey Toozey-Do you know if Mithras is planning any tours? Specifically are they going to be making it to the states in the near future that you know of? A guy I work with really likes them so I could probably talk him into going with me if they came to Grand Rapids.

That's cos Nile nicked it and have freely admitted to it being a 'tribute'.

Hey Legions,
Mithras are still looking for a live drummer but thankfully they are finally having some responses to their advertising! I know there are a couple of people who may be possibilities for the job but Mithras have very high standards.
Leon is currently busy with his new company and writing the third album, I think he mentioned that even if they did get a full live line up it wouldn't be until the end of this year that they'd play a gig (s) and thats in the UK.
Hopefully one day they will conquer the world and tour near you :)

Gothic stone was on Nightfall, released in '87 and Nile was formed in '93. I can notice some difficulties in how Candlemass could pay a tribute to Nile 6 years before they were even formed.

I can't remeber where it was but when asked about it said something like "Well everyone has their influences and we don't mind admitting to them"
Anyway I don't want to talk about Candlemass:....
We are truly sorry to inform you that Candlemass have disbanded!
This is sad news for us and everybody else that love this fantastic band.
There will be no more gigs, no new album, no more doom!
This is it... ..finished..........zero...........nada........out !!!
Despite the tremendous success of the reunion, everything hasn’t been perfect.
Tiny cracks in the façade could be seen during the first round in the summer of 2002 because members of the band do not share the same vision of C-mass, the gigs, an eventual new album, democracy etc, and last year it became clear that the indifferences were too large to overcome.
A demo was recorded but the internal problems overshadowed the fun of playing. The gig at Klubben (Stockholm) nov. 29 came to be the last and final for Candlemass.
The band have tried to save the situation. There have been meetings and discussions, but unfortunately it hasn’t been possible for the five members to agree on how Candlemass could work in the future. The members would have loved to continue but the chemistry is just not there anymore.
The magic is gone.........................

So with Candlemass "re-split" :upset: what's happening with "Krux"?... that band with ex-'mass members ( I forget which ones...) I think it's the drummer & guitarist.
I've only heard one track of theirs, "Black Room" (on a TerrorizerMag CD a while back)...& I kinda liked it, classic 'mass riffing, slow drumming & wicked solos but with kinda "classic-cheese-RAWK" vocals... Anyone else heard any more of their stuff???
Also has anyone else heard that Psycroptic "The Scepter of the Ancients"?

****in' ****... Suffocation night was a disastrous night for me. Did I mention this already? I don't think so, the show was last week.
Anyways, Suffocation, Exhumed, Dying Fetus, Uphill Battle and Malomar.
Suffo and Exhumed were great...Fetus were... Fetus. Uphill Battle was alright, and Malomar sucked... but I had quite the ****ty night... I'm not going to get into many details, but it goes something like this.. I drank way too much on an empty stomach and I'm down a leather jacket, discman, headphones and 3 CDs now. Good thing I have a friend that works at the venue. I'll be getting them back.

Hello friends, hope all of you are well. Cryptopsy would like to thank
you for your patience and your fidelity. There have been lots of factors
thrown our way making it very hard to give you concrete news and updates
regarding the recording and release of the new album. The only news we can
tell you for now is that it is written and it’s going to floor you. The
music along with Lord Worm’s lyrics will definitely turn some heads. The
plan is still to record with Pierre Remillard (None So Vile, Whisper
Supremacy, And Then You’ll Beg, None so Live) at Wild Studio in St-Zenon,
Quebec. When? Hopefully soon.
The band is also planning some tours for the end of summer and in the
fall as well. The set for all these shows will include some material from
every album and None so Vile played in its entirety.

The thing that stuns me about Muhammid's playing, was his upbringing. His parents wouldn't even allow him a guitar, so he had to play in secret... no lessons or anything. Considering that, he's **** frickin' good!

The only problem I had with Necrophagist is that the riffs during the verses never seemed to match the brilliance of some of the solos. There were a few too many bog standard grindy death riffs. But lets hope that the time and maturity will lead to the next one being even more amazing.

Thought this post would do the best in in this thread.
This is a longshot but I was listening to Rock 105.3 tonight and they have death metal playing and I heard this really awesome song and the only way to describe it is that there were 2 solo's, fast double bass almost all the way through and I barely made out the bridge which had the singer screaming "Death will prevail!!!!!"
If no one knows the song, what are some really awesome death metal bands to get into? I'm just starting to enjoy it. Never cared for the vocal style but slowly I have been getting used to them and liking them.

Fast double bass and 2 solos describes pretty much every death metal song in existence :p
Searching on google for that all I am able to find is Mystic Circle- Kingdom of Blasphemy.
Anyways here are my reccommendations:
Nile and Cannibal Corpse are the bands that got me into death metal
then
Cryptopsy (just their early stuff)
Necrophagist
Severed Savior
Sinners Bleed (they were just talking about them)
Suffocation
Demigod (excellent stuff)
Behemoth (early stuff: black metal, get their new album, "Zos Kia Cultus" it's blackened death and excellent :thumb:)
Vital Remains (just checked them out; sh.it their drummer is a MONSTER)
I won't give you too much seeing as

2. Don't want to swamp you

Dave played the drums on the album but its not humanly possible to play that fast through a whole song, he obviously has looped the drums to do so.

No you sit on a chair and drum onto another chair. The seat is the snare and the back is the cymbal, works best with computer chairs as they have plastc around the backs thus making the cymbal and the snare sound different.
You do the kicks with your feet and you just use the seat for toms and stuff.
That my friends is the art of chair drumming.

I fail to see any musical benefit to be gained from this band. If they're what got you into metal, then fair enough - I still have a soft spot for Guns n Roses - but I can't imagine how anyone could be into extreme metal then get into Slipshod.
I can tolerate many forms of music (well mainly classical with some fusion) but when it comes to metal, only METAL will do. No djs, no rapping, no baggy pants, no "yo yo yo muthafcuka!" just honest music that draws straight from the masters. Unless I can see a line from Sabbath, through Maiden etc then it just doesn't feel right.
There are plenty of threads to discuss slacknuts or other forms of music - lets keep this one metal eh?

I think it's perfectly evil on it's own. Freaky little red and green baby, with four eyes and webbed feet? I'll keep my pentagrams, daemons and various other blasphemies, thank you.

Direct Connect sucks IMO. I had it for a while. Most of the hubs that are even worth connecting to require you to share 10-20+ gig of stuff. So it's hard to get in the decent ones to begin with. And even if you do manage to get connected to one, it is very difficult to use. It just got be too much hassle. I'm not even sure if I've still got the program, but I don't use it. Soulseek all the way.
Toozey...Don't be too sure about the Killswitch/Shadows Fall gig. When I saw them last year with Cradle they both put on a good show. Even if you don't like their albums that much their live show alone is worth it.
Agreeed - DC is not worth the hassle when you can get most of everything elsewhere. Esp, with my crappy connection - I'm ALREADY faced with too much stuff to download, don't need any more...

Jondur is a rock star :D
That's not a rock star quote - this is a rock star quote!!!!!:
"Drums are excellent! Jon (ex-Unsilence – one more DOOM overlord!) uses much percussion and with his march-like playing fills their sound exactly like he should."
from Behind The Veil webzine (http://www.geocities.com/behind_the_veil2001/d1.html)
lilpete: Reverend Bizarre are ace. The best album is still probably the first one "In the Rectory of the Reverend Bizarre" but "Harbinger of Metal" (a 74 minute EP!!) is cool. Both albums are readily available. try http://www.slowmomusic.com/

Interestingly, there is no time limit to an EP. The only rule is that an album has to be over 23 minutes. They called it an EP because (aside from all the band members being a few eggs short of a dozen) it didn't fit into their concept for their albums so they said it was a stop gap release - an aside from their albums.
Reverend Bizarre also released a great split record with Orodruin (another excellent doom band for you to check out) which is well worth trying to get if you're a vinyl fan.
NP Ominous "Void of Infinity" - If you're a Meshuggah or At The Gates fan then you should check this out!

I always thought an EP was determined by number of tracks rather than length (on CD anyway).

I beleive someone here told me to check out Immolation, anyways I downloaded "Father You're not a father" and I really liked it. Alot of emotion it seemed, especially for death metal where the only emotion ya usually hear is anger and hatred. and sometimes necrophilia. heh. Anyways I will be getting more of this! Right after I get more Demigod!

All 3 of their albums are excellent. I think if I was forced to pick a favorite I'd say They Will Return. But they're all really good.

The vast majority of Immolation's songs are hateful tirades against Jesus and Christianity, so apart from the lack of necrophilia I can't see what else you're picking up on. Continue to pick up on it though; Immolation are awesome.

I found that particular song depressing, in the slow parts, especially around the part near the end when he says "Why father, Why father" Lyrical content is certainly depressing and disturbing. and true, which makes it so much worse.
The blastbeat sections were pissed though :D

So, a friend of mine has talked to the keyboardist from Blood Stained Dusk alot. Well, my friend convinced him to send him the unreleased EP "Continuance of Evil."
All New Blood Stained Dusk, unreleased. I am currently in possession of it, and it is class. Unlike "Dirge of Death's Silence." it's less like Emperor yet still maintaining that same symphonic black metal feel. It's awesome.

If you like Immolation check out Throne Of Nails
Throne of Nails were plain Morbid Angel worship. They were a good band if unoriginal but they were miles better live than on CD (your mate Leon Macy used to do second guitar for em). I saw them loads of times and used to just gawp at the guitarists fingers flying all over the place. Basically imagine if Trey Azagthoth was doing the vocals as well!
Also amusing cos a chap I knew from Bradford, who was a lovely chap, always smiling and joking joined them on bass and turned into some evil demon! No more smiles just scowls and grimaces!
As for EP/Number of songs - you should check out some grind EPs - some of them have 40 odd songs!

^Provided you don't wanna do anything flashy (like anything other than playing vinyl), you should be able to pick up a player fairly cheaply second hand.

Yeah, soon after I posted I remembered Anal Cunt's 5764 (or whatever) Song EP, and figured grind pretty much destroys my idea.

Each Morbid Angel record is astonishingly brilliant and on par with each other record except, in my humble Morbid Angel junkiefanatic opinion, Domination and Heretic.
The other albums are simply brilliantly crafted masterpieces in their own unique way:
Altars of Madness - the original blast beating evil death metal... with hints of thrash and old school black metal
Blessed Are The Sick - a growth from the style of Altars while adopting a distincly bizarre, yet highly prog-like song craft
Covenant - a change from the off-the-wall thrashy prog songcraft into a more focused, speedy Florida Death Metal record, highly influential of black metal speed feeling. Also introduced on this record were the 7 string guitars, which brought a whole new dimension to the sound.
Formulas - the death metal record to end all death metal records. It is hard to sum up the magnitude of transcendental magnificence that this record encapsulates. It is the gateway to that beyond.
Gateways - picked up where Formulas left off but slowed down a lot of the material and had a more focused spiritual/philosophical vision of what the songs were trying to get across
whoooo

7 Strings, that would explain the detuned sound. And also the fact that they probably detuned their guitars. heh heh heh.
So looks like I should just get the first 4. That's alot of MA :-/
