Deeds of Flesh are possibly the most boring Death Metal band ever. Except for Trading Pieces; that was a decent album. I can't stand Path of the Weakening for more than a couple songs. I fall asleep.

If you want good brutal technical death metal, go with Severed Savior or Sinners Bleed.

too fast? i dotn feel like slowing it down so the bands are:

In Flames
Opeth
At the Gates

Spawn of Possession
Vehemence
Nargaroth
Lykathe
Agalloch

in that order.

Ah, I see. I get lost at Spawn of Possesion. It's too long to read in such a short span of half a second :P

A Blaze in the Northern Sky is almost as good as Transylvanian Hunger, but not quite. Great album it is though (A blaze in the Norther Sky that is) but i have to disagree with you on the best songs on that album. It's either Kathaarian Life Code or Where cold winds blow, it's all amazing though.
I'm with Ve Das, Nile is meh. True the egyptian sounds give them a little specialty in them but other then that it's repetitive and boring.

Ihsahn
03-22-2004, 06:03 PM
To choose between Transilvanian Hunger, and A Blaze in the Northern Sky... ouch that's a hard one. They're both brilliantly done albums with amazing productions and sound, but in my opinion A Blaze... beats out Transilvanian by just a smidgen. There's just something about the way the songs of A Blaze... are written and the overall production that appeals to me more. Plus, the mere fact that the album contains the almighty Kathaarian Life Code! :thumb: (I love the drumming in the slow bit where the bass drum hits on the upbeat of 4) Don't get me wrong, Hunger is great, and was the first Darkthrone album I bought and listened to, but there's just something about A Blaze... that makes it rise above the rest. Of course, that's just my opinion :D

Oh yeah... I agree with Nile being boring. They were a good listen the first few spins, but then after that it just got kinda repetitive and I couldn't stand to listen to it anymore...

Per Ardua Ad Astra
03-22-2004, 06:14 PM
On Nile, if it weren't for the drums they would be a pile of garbage.
Also, A Blaze and T.H. are both very close in terms of greatness but you definitely have to pick T.H. It gives you raw, cold black metal atmosphere just a tad more than A Blaze does, and yes Kathaarian Life Code is one of the greatest songs ever. The opening is such a great way to start an album.

When I refer to good production I refer to how the production fits with the music. Of course the production isn't as polished or clean as bands with professional studios, but that doesn't mean it isn't good, and that's what makes Darkthrone and other similar bands amazing. The production fits the music so well and creates a certain atmosphere, which to my ears is good production.

Before A Blaze in The Northern Sky, Darkthrone was a death metal band signed on Peaceville. A Blaze was there first Black metal album (i'm pretty sure, not 100%), the reason they stopped playing Death because if i recall correctly they say the death metal scene has gone soft and mainstream or something to that extent. I know it's on those interviews somewhere.

Haha, what a coincidence, I have just finished listening to both of those albums. Soulside Journey is indeed excellent, but does it sound swedish? I usually associate 'melodic-death' with 'swedish death' and there is not much melody in soulside journey. :p. meh, I enjoy in more than their whole BM discography. :thumb:

Nah Swedish Death is Dismember, Unleashed, Merciless, Grave, Entombed etc (I'm actually drooling at the thought of these bands!) Oooh and Carnage as well!

The melodic stuff is totally different. Albums like:

Entombed: Left Hand Path
Dismember: Like an Everflowing Stream
Grave: Into the Grave

Should be on every death heads playlist!

OK! Here is what I thought of those suggestions:

Spawn of Possession
Couldn't get anything by them.

Sinners Bleed
Awesome stuff, to bad the dip**** I was downloading from cut off my d/l right in the middle

Severed Savior
Even better! BRUTALITY IS THE LAW

Suffocation
Again super-awesome death. Man I love it.

Sodom
I already know they kick ***, Agent Orange just reinforced that.

Death
Raw, early death metal, love it

Nargaroth (I think that's the one)
It was pretty good but it was too repetitive. I much prefer Darkthrone.

Arcturus (Fall of Man to be specific)
Atmospheric wanking, bah.

Death metal seems to be a brazilian thing.

I mean Possessed - Seven Churches was pretty deathy, but it was also quite thrashy and it was '85. Sepultura - Bestial Devastation was pure death/black, '85. Sarcofago - INRI was '87, also pure blackened death. Scream Bloody Gore was pure death, '87. ??? Guess it comes down to exact release dates, and demo dates, and when bands were formed, etc...

Doesn't really matter I guess, I'm just curious.

a) "NORTHERN HYPERBLAST"
"In use by bands like Origin, and most recently, on Kataklysm's new material. Again, like the Cannibal Blast, but you're doing a ONE HANDED ROLL on the snare count! Utterly insane! So that's a 16th note snare and kick pattern over the top of each other!

snare xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
bass1 x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
bass2 -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-

RECOMMENDED TEMPO: 180-240bpm (good luck getting it fast as Longstreth!).
AS USED BY: Origin, Kataklysm etc.

I don't know anything about Ice T other than that he is a rapper, a black person, and very likely a ******.

As terminal said, they were called body count and were crap. Ice-T was however a decent rapper and did two excellent covers of The Exploited with Slayer (Disorder and the renamed UK82 cover called LA92) on the Judgement Night Soundtrack. He was also a reformed felon in the quality kitsch late night, after-the-pub, cop programme, Players. Interestingly he speaks exactly like he raps - smae inflections and tone and everything.

Now stop being a racist dickhead - words like that aren't needed in here, are you going to call two of the guys from Suffocation that?

All this crap about classifying blastbeats is just irritating. A blast is just repeated fast constant snare hits. What you do with the other hand is irrelevant. Witness the likes of Trym playing accent patterns over a snare blast. a hyperblast is just faster, a hypoblast must therefore be slower and an isoblast will be the same.

well, there's nothing wrong with hating black people if you do. it's just a form of prejudice. everyone carries certain prejudices. some just do it more than others.

This is indeed a very good point. Many people regard racist as the absolute worst thing that someone can be, while in reality, it hardly is. You never see anyone getting flamed for saying that they hate stupid people, after all.

But let's keep this civil, and keep race/racism related discussion out of the Death Heads thread.

To Dargon: De mysterii Dom Sathanas would be better towards you, though i prefer Live in Leipzig because I personally don't like the way Atilla does the vocals on De Mysterii... but either way it's a great album. Though i still am mad at you for bashing Nokturnal Mortum

live in leipzig and de mysteriis are two of my all time favorite albums. and i know what you mean about attila's voice, although i've grown to love it. de mysteriis is just so epic to me. and leipzig is dirty and dark and goes perfectly with dead's vocals. i actually believe that de mysteriis was better off without dead for some reason. the studio tracks i've heard with dead singing just don't do him the justice that a live setting does. RIP dead.

Gorgoroth is black metal from Norway, Under the Sign of Hell is a classic release. Norsecore might be the gayest term i've ever heard in my life.
Satyricon used to be black metal back in the day with releases of Nemesis Divina and the Shadowthrone but the new stuff (Volcano) isn't very good in my opinion.

Alien Crucifixion is uber cool
Anaal Nathrakh is excellent
Phelbotomized… ah, it was like, melodic epic grind. With non-melodic bits. The non-melodic bits were great.
Gorgasm reminds me of Dying Fetus, but I don’t like it quite as much. Still exellent though

Yeah, sorry about that. Got the Inferno festival here in Oslo now, and I've been drinking for 3 days straight. Last day today, so I probably will end up posting piss-drunk again. Two sunny Vorspiels with Manowar and Exodus on the stereo outside in my mates garden, with loads of beer and a mighty fine bong, and it's even better weather today! Not a single cloud in the sky.

Anyways, the festival is ****ing awesome, with Sadus being the big highlight for me yesterday. I was also mighty impressed by MDB live. Today the highlights will be Aborym, Decapitated, Disiplin, and Holy Moses, and I will probably stay around to watch Gayhem finish the festival off.
