Just download it and find out for yourself. As long as you have the right hubs, you're well away.
Vortigon
02-29-2004, 08:21 PM
It may be the best, but I find that many of the hubs require the sharing of huge amounts of files, and since I only have about 2GB at the most, it means I have to stick to those that will have me. But to be fair, it is reliable, and has a good selection of stuff even for me.

For the most part, I'd agree. Flo is dead on, every time, and Eric sounds great too. Jon's leads could have been a bit brighter, but they are still great. Martin did a great job singing DiSalvo's stuff, but he butchered the Lord Worm songs, Crown of Horns in particular.

1.more power metal than you ever will in your life...
2.probably a german thing,as I haven´t seen it used outside of Germany and Austria.Basically a genre description for bands with clean+growled vocals which mix death/thrash/black influences with more melodic parts, sometimes acoustic, sometimes keyboard.
Toozey
03-06-2004, 09:13 AM
1 - In Flames sound nothing like power metal at all.
2 - So really what your saying is its Melodic Death Metal?
Ve Das
03-06-2004, 09:17 AM
Yeah, with clean vox,but that´s the def. around here. You get goth, prog. meldeath and pseudo-black lumped in under Dark Metal.Basically anything "dark"-sounding that´s too diverse to fit one genre ;)
1.In Flames(the older stuff) is PM riffwise.
Toozey

In flames have gone from Melodic Death Metal and now they are bordering into Nu metal. Maybe you should find out what power metal is because they really have very little in common.

what are the best songs bathory has done?
Anything off their first four albums "Blood Fire Death" and "Under the sign of the black mark", Self titled and there's another one that the name isn't coming to me. I have the first two that I mentioned and i've heard the other two. The best song they did was "A Fine day to Die." Also check out the song "Blood Fire Death" but basically anything off those albums will do. Beware, no poseur is safe from the mighty Bathory! Oh and one more thing, avoid there newer stuff, it's not very good at all...

I must say the first thing I thought when Jesper started Hammerfall was how much the actual riffing sounded like In Flames. The link is there - In Flames were always too happy for death metal, melodic or not.

GAH! I'm so ****ing pissed off now. You see last week I finaly got myself a double kick pedal and a training pad (for the sake of my neighbours). I mean, it's the only way I can improve the speed in me feet. Today I began practice endurance, simple singel stroke rolls with my hands and feet. And what happens? The ****ing cunts next door rings on the door and says: "It's too loud, stop!" It's 6.50 PM and I use a training pad. A ****ing training pad! Aborted has given some news about their upcoming cd. They parted ways with their drummer but are teaming up with drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) for the upcoming tour. The new album is going to be a mini-disc with some previously unreleased tracks, and a few new tracks. I guess it's going to have some video clips and live material as well. I think it's slated to be released in April. The new album's tracklist is going to be:
01. Gestated Rabidity (new track)
02. Drowned (ENTOMBED cover)
03. Voracious Haemaglobinic Syndrome (new track)
04. The Sanctification Of Refornication (new track)

I'm afraid not, we were going to get it recorded, but the people putting on the gig are apparently not very good at recording live gigs, as it is quite a new company. Hopefully at our next gig we will be able to get Andy Davies (he did our 3 track demo, and has worked with Maiden and some other bands whose names escape me) to do the sound, and we know he knows his stuff. Altars of Madness - 10
Blessed Are The Sick - 10
Covenant - 10
Domination - 8
Entangled in Chaos - by....its a live album
Formulas Fatal To The Flesh - 206
Gateways To Annihilation - 10
Heretic - 9 (cleansed in pestilence and enshrined by grace save this album from being on domination level. i just dont seem to like it)
but um....yeah. Formulas exists. it will shake your mind.

I'm going to Wacken but it may well be my last. For a start I can't cope with the heat - nearly died last year and my mate ended up in hospital with heat exhaustion.
Maybe will start going to some of the smaller fests ie Fcuk the Commerce etc.
We didn't record the gig last week - just as well considering the feedback! Next week we are recording a song for a split 7" (vinyl only!) we're doing with Cambian Dawn. For us, it's practically grindcore it's so fast.

You young doom scamps and your vinyl only releases, bless.
Speaking of split releases though, we were thinking of organising a really heavy bill one night at the local metal club, and recording the whole gig for a release. You think that'd be worth doing? It seemed like a cool idea to me.

Young? If only..... I feel very old today after a moving bass amp/not bending from the knees incident.
Vinyl only is a good way of making a limited release special. Split vinyl is even better - split CD's just aren't right.

If you got a line-up of good, underground bands who have already built a reputation then it would work well. But there has to be some contiuity to the bill. Ie If I put a gig with 5 doom bands then I know I could flog 300 odd cds straight away. If it's too varied then it won't appeal enough to fans to justify them spending the money. Are you based in the UK? I could give you some suggestions if you want.

Yeah, I'm up in Hertfordshire, which isn't actually all that far from you. I do mean to try and come check out a River gig, but I'm actually so poor I can't afford the train.

Yeah well it was in Lewisham which is a right arse to get to. We're probably doing the Verge in Camden in May which should be a lot easier transport wise.
Let me know if you have any more thoughts about this gig and the sort of bands you want to put on.... there's a couple of cracking death and black metal bands around who would be well worth thinking about.
Vortigon
03-15-2004, 06:21 AM
Yeah, it is just an idea at the moment, so I'll you know, and all help is appreciated.
You'll have to let me know the date of the Verge gig, I'll try and get up to it. Actually, the band I was opening for on Friday (Black Eye) played a Metal Hammer gig there yesterday (untr00 yes, but definitely good exposure for them). Unfortunately I couldn't make it, but I'm told it was good.

Old Man's Child is in no way brutal, especially not when compared to Immortal, and Immortal aren't that heavy compared to other awesome Raw Tr00 Kvlt N3cromancing black metal.

They bore me to death.Sure,it´s all solid, deathmetal riffing and would be quite good if it were delivered with some sort of conviction or hadn´t been done a million times before, which is why I don´t like it.One or two good songs per album don´t make a band good.(well, one and a half songs actually...)
