Just thought I'd drop this in in case anyone is interested and doesn't check the Reviews forum. Theres a Nuclear Blast compilation DVD out, and its got some pretty good videos on it.

This is mainly aimed at people in Britain, since we don't get Gorgoroth on TV, these kinda DVDs might be the only way we can see videos by people like Kataklysm, Kreator, Cathedral, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Manowar, etc (only place I have anyway :()

Its called Monsters of Metal, and has 50 videos on it, as well as 3 live bonus videos and a little compilation show of forthcoming releases. Its volume 1 as well; they're apparently releasing another one (with 50 more videos) sometime.

I'm sorry, I don't have a link. I just stumbled on the DVD in HMV's music dvd sale, and I've never been to the Nuclear Blast site...the site given on the DVD box is www.nuclearblast.de, if thats any help.

Well, I haven't posted in a few days. My work has the site blocked and even if it didn't, I moved departments so now I'm not in an office by myself so I really wouldn't be able to post anyways. And to whoever it was, my avatar was the original for the Baphomet Horde. It started as a bit of a joke and now it's got this weird kvlt following so...I dunno. And yes, Baphomet was the horned goat with wings. Do a google search for "Goat Of Mendes" or "Knights Templar" and you should get some hits.

Jondur, were those recorded with the old valvestates or the new ones?

As some of those albums were recorded in the early 90's I'm guessing old. not that I'd know. I'm a drummer - amps are wooden boxes which make noise. Actually MDB etc use amp modelling now so the guitars are DI'd through a rackmount Line6 POD.

Mayhem's greatest work occured before Wolf's Lair Abyss. Everything after isn't that great. Especially Maniac's vox on GDOW, ewww. My two favorite Mayhem albums are De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Live in Leipzig. Personal favorite songs would be:
Life Eternal ♪
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Freezing Moon
Funeral Fog
Pagan Fears
Chainsaw Gutfûck
Pure Fûcking Armageddon
Fall of Seraphs

Shrines is a good disc... but its my least favorite of theirs for a few reasons. number one, the production is way too clean. i mean... its like they emphasized Laureano's overplaying, which is my 2nd beef. it really seems like hes trying to do too much. Like...nile is supposed to have really over-the-top drumming, but Laureano tries too hard IMO. thirdly... they used ****in synths and computers for all the ecletic instruments, as opposed to Black Seeds where EVERYTHING was real. Black Seeds is definately their pinnacle.

but.... Shrines has "Sarcaphogus" and that song simply blasts tombs. gahhhh.... the ending section...oh man. they played that song the first time i ever saw them. *drools*

Tradgic news. The amazing source of Canadian Injected Death Grind known as Thorazine is coming to an end. Their last show will be march 12th. The Day Ash Blackened Out the Sun will be released by Deathgasm, eventually. It's finished recording, with Steve Austin of Today is the Day, and will be out, as soon as Deathgasm gets around to it.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness

.

I agree to an extent although I'm tempted to add 1991 for the following reasons:

Morbid Angel: Blessed are the Sick
Paradise Lost: Gothic
Death:Human
Pestilence: Testimony of the Ancients
Revelation: Salvation's Answer
Darkthrone: Soulside Journey
My Dying Bride: Symphonaire
Carcass: Necroticism
Cathedral: Forest of Equilibrium

So who's up for some CDR trading then? Got lilpete and Legions so far. Doesn't matter what you put on the CD - I'd be happy getting a CD full of Maiden! Lilpete and Legions: send us your addresses to jonathon_gibbs@hotmail.com

To be honest with you - that's not exactly what I had in mind. It doesn't have to be new bands - you can just stick a load of songs (1-2 max from each band) on the CD and then just send - you'll find some new bands and remind yourself of some older stuff and hopefully and up with a cool compilation CD. That way you son't feel pressured into searching for the most obscure stuff you can find.

Trust me it'll be cool and I won't come round and nick your stuff - I promise!

Sounds like a good idea...coupla questions though, are you talking about putting maybe 13-14 tracks on a CDR, or like 250 in mp3 format? Also, would you send a copy of the CD to each other person joining in, or just trade with one of them?

Yeah, Jondur, the Fetus Gig was very gratifying!!! Deeds of Flesh were well tight, impressed loads more than their recorded stuff.
Fetus benefited from the extra guitar, the time before at the same venue they were good but this time the 2nd guitar made a big difference. The new drummer's got loads better than on Stop @ Nothing ( where he didn't seem to flow as well )
Hate Eternal were FIERCE!!!

as did i, i had a spot off to the left side and my eyes were glued on the drummer. it was in a very very small venue here in st.louis (a place usually reserved for local bands, though Iced Earth did play there in 97') so the sound and view of the band was extradornitoy. great live band, when they played "justifiable homocide" and "streeks of blood" i just about lost it.

mp3's are for falses - only non compressed media is real!

Right all those who are interested send me an email (jonathon_gibbs@hotmail.com) and I'll send you the details. Terminal: minidisc is fine - we'll just have to pair you with someone with a minidisc player!

Beelzebloke: I've always been impressed with Fetus live. They're good on record but live is miles better. The fact that they managed to rejuvenate my battered hungover head at 2.30pm in Wacken is a testament to their power! heh im a death metal fan i preferably like cryptopsy - phobophile

heres its lyrics........

In the kitchen
With a screaming triple amputee;
It's complection depends soley
On my needs.
Said amputee stumps
Are my way of saying;
"Thank you just for being you."
It's fear tastes better than it's limbs.

Terror of mortality,
I draw from the slowly dying ****ed
Monsters live behind my eyes;
I let them out and people die.
And all the grave worms
That come for their piece of meat?
I give them dead things..
The wretched living are mine alone

Fright mounts with the body count
To which anthropomancy predicts a decline
In all of God's creation,
Can there be a lifestyle that's better than this?

I mark my territory
With their blood and excritement
And adipocere...
I can find my way in the dark;
My fulfilment is habitually necromanic
And anal abusive..
Seen through the eyes of a mortician

They've "caught" me, as they call it;
My teeth and my semen have betrayed me..
Nevermore!
Tests to gauge my rationale,
The likes of which these feeble minds have
Never seen.

Rorschach blotters,
My responses to which inspire fear...
From my lizard side,
The amoral alien speaks;
"These aren't butterflies,
I see a face I'd like to burn."

Obfuscation
Of the authorities with lies,
And my natur
Alability to charm and be me,
Or whoever they want;
I've known all minds by divine right.

cryptopsy rules heh. there style in guitar playing is awesome and there guitar tuning is pretty rare from what ive heard in bands.

Yeah...the only time I went to Leeds wasn't even to see a band, and the only thing I noticed was that the whole place seemed to be populated by homeless people. I swear thats all there was. Admittedly they were the most polite/inventive homeless people I've ever seen ("Good morning, sir, would you like to make a donation to Leeds most up-and-coming homeless couple?").

The furthest I've been to see a band was Birmingham just a couple of weeks ago for A Perfect Circle, and everything (the travel, etc) was such a cluster**** that I really couldn't be bothered to it again.

It's really good. Suprisingly it's the drummer from Borgir behind the battery. Regardless, it's very good. Cold, chilling and no synthesizers. Get it if you can, if my memory serves it's rather rare.

Plus, it has one of the best BM names. :D

Yes, I am pretty sure it is rare also. There is a local CD store near my house that does special orders for rare CD's and such, so i am pretty sure I can get it there.

On another note, I am also hoping this CD trading comes out to be pretty cool.

I've never been a huge Fear Factory fan, but in 2002 someone gave me a link to download some new FF demos (just about 40 seconds of Archetype, Corporate Cloning and Slave Labour). I got pretty excited about them at the time, but then there was nothing for ages. Liked Obsolete though.

Ive liked FF since Gr 4, since I first heard Demanufacture. But Digimortal sort of put me off for a while, with all the rap and stuff like that. But Acres of Skin is still a good song IMO.

Blackkheim does all of it actually, I'm pretty sure Swano only mixes and produces. He is involved though making it a project of Dan Swano even though it's Blackheim's music.

Swano does some vocals and keyboards as well. Usually the "heavy metal vocals" like on 'Under the Banner of the Sentinel'. :lol:

So I saw novembers doom, agalloch, and the gathering last night. There was barely anyone there. I think that was partly cause the three bands playing weren't THAT popular and opeth played the night before. since people wouldn't go to the club two nights in a row most likely and since opeth is more popular, they would obviously go to the opeth show.
Me and my friend were actually touching the stage we were so close. we were like 3 feet away from the band members.
Novembers doom was awesome. When they ended, i gave the singer a high five. One of the guitarists handed out guitar picks at the end, but he ran out of picks right before he got to me. Then, the bassist came out and filmed us on a video camera for like thirty seconds.
When Agalloch started out, i thought their set was gunna suck, cause the bass player's amp was up so high and the overal sound was terrible. like, all you could hear was the bass.
But they turned it down after the first song, and it was much better after that.
their set seemed to get better as time went on. Overall they were awesome too and had one crazy ending. they were bashing their guitars on the ground and stuff, and purposely causing as much noise as possibly with feedback and unplugging and using the chord to pick their strings. It was crazy.

Then, the gathering came on. They were good, but i was at the concert more for the previous two bands. The gathering was good, but a little boring IMO. On the plus side, the singer definitely looked straight at me several times. ;)

Overall, it was awesome, and i picked myself up an Agalloch shirt.

how where discharge an influence on death and black metal?

Have you heard them?

Their influence is mainly through the thrash and grind scenes which both owe an ENORMOUS debt to Discharge. For example Max Cavelera started Sepultura becuase he was so impressed by a tape he had with Hellhammer on one side and Discharge on the other!

Black metal is a tenuous link mainly from Discharge --> Venom ----> black metal.

You can hear Discharge in the likes of Autopsy easily. And grind was a huge influence on death metal anyway.

The point I was trying to make is that Discharge are ace and too many metalheads write them off because they're punk.

I like your avatar, although you are easily persuaded by Jondur - discharge suck -> oh, ok -> yeah discharge own. :p

Although you do have a point, discharge may not have had a direct influence on BM, as Venom aren't black metal, although, if Tom Warrior says he was more than slightly influenced by them, i will withdraw my statement. Hellhammer were, in fact, BM. :thumb:

And you are also right when you said Max has that Discharge sticker on that awesome guitar of his... Well spotted! :thumb:

Although you do have a point, discharge may not have had a direct influence on BM, as Venom aren't black metal,

Venom are not but EVERY single Black Metal band has been influenced by them

And Discharge are ace. I love that sort of stuff. Loads of Dis-core round my place when I feel the need to fu ck the system!
