Immolation....meh, i donno... i never liked them much other than Close To A World Below.
Jimbo legions: Ohio is the farthest west were looking at right now... were still a fledgling band lol... but this place in Cincinnati wants us to come out whenever we can.
but yeah... the bethledeign ****. their drummer is ubergay, and is the most pessimistic person ever... so hes the reason why they cancelled up here in albany, and hes ****ing them over with other gigs 'n stuff too, but hes so good... that they just have to deal with him untill they find a replacement. im going to try to get them to come to as many gigs as i can, but since theyre from virginia... im not sure how many ill be able to pull tho. we'll see

SFU - Terrible Band. They develop their 'music' specifically for the art of wanting to be 'hardcore' and people to fear them for being so metal... What they are is a joke. They do it specifically for the money, and it's pretty lame when they do a song with a rapper, if you ask me.

Aye. I actually checked out theendrecords.com after I posted. *smacks forehead* But the thing is not that it's sold... the problem is shipping. I don't really rely on CD to make it all the way over to Sweden unless I pay an additional fee of $20 for "express delivery service-yadda-yadda". And for some reason I just don't trust Amazon.com. I don't know why so there's no point in asking.

Uhh im not sure what of this is considered death but
Children Of Bodom (black metal??)
In Flames
Soilwork (melodic death??)
i like the nile drumming the drummer comes from rochester which is where im from :thumb:
The only thing that turns me off from death metal is the vocals. Is there any death metal bands that use clean vocals? I love the instrumentals but it gets repetitive. Also can some one give me some bands like the ones above or at least some instrumental death songs?

in flames and soilwork are both melodic death, which is just a sub-genre of death. children of bodom, however are hard to classify. soem call them death, some call them black, some call them power, some call them, a mixture. i call them death with some power.
As for the vocals, you will get used to the growling.;)
i dont know any death bands that use only clean vocals but many use them interspersed between growls and stuff.

Personally, I think that far too much fuss is made about Dechristianize. Especially compared to Dawn of the Apocalypse and Forever Underground, which I think were overall better albums than Dechristianize. Sure, the title track was in-****ing-credible, but the resof the album was kinda generic, with some nice leads, and horrible triggered drum sounds. I also liked their old vocalist better than Glen Benton. He was more unique, and fit the epic, evil vibe of their music better.

I think they're great - always have done. I got into them just before Amongst the Catacombs when someone sent me the track Rameses of one of the demos. However I think they've become quite poor live. I saw them on the Black Seeds tour and they were full of passion and literally tore into every song with true bile and spite. I then saw them in London a couple of moths ago and they were all "How y'all doing? I can't hear you London!"

'Forever advancing...... legions' will benefit from a new cd layout which at last includes the exclusive artwork by Desmond Sia that was originally intended for the first pressings.

Mithras sign to Candlelight Records
Friday January 16th, 2004
MIthras are proud to annouce they have just signed a 3 album deal with
Candlelight Records. In addition to 3 new albums, Candlelight will be re-releasing the first 2 albums, 'Forever advancing...... legions' and 'Worlds beyond the veil'.
'Forever advancing...... legions' will benefit from a new cd layout which at last includes the exclusive artwork by Desmond Sia that was originally intended for the first pressings.
Mithras would like to extend their thanks to Fraser and Graeme at Golden Lake Productions for all their hard work over the years that has helped us get to where we are.
Watch this space for further news on album number 3...
**** yes!!!
Actually that's terrible news. Candlelight are rubbish and have a wide history of being completely unable to promote any band bar Emperor. Good news for Golden Lake though - Fraser told me that he was looking forward to the publishing money without any of the promotion costs!
Tis a shame though as in a way Mithras were a triumph for the underground - huge amounts of recognition without the need for blanket advertising and paying on to big tours. However some decent tours would be good!

Jondur... can you tell me, drummer to drummer, ha ha, what the baphomet horde is?
Jondur
01-21-2004, 05:22 AM
It started off as a joke and now it is a way of spotting who is tr00 and n3cr0 - you know that members of The Baphomet Horde (note: capitalisation is compulsory) know their stuff.
To join you have to answer the following easy questions:
What colour was the split 10" that Morbid Angel released with SlaughterLord?
What band did Thomas Lindberg play bass and sing for prior to joining At The Gates?
Which band displayed their displeasure with their record company by releasing an album entitled "Fcuk Peaceville"?
Which record company was founded by the bass player of legendary grindcore merchants Extreme Noise Terror?
How many bands has Hellhammer been drummer for?
Which two European singers were approached by Morbid Angel to replace David Vincent?
Which song by a legendary Swiss band did Sepultura butcher?
Which Brazilian band was a huge influence on all Norwegian black metal bands and released an album entitled INRI?
Actually all you need to do is a) be into extreme metal and b) nick Legion's avatar and change your title to "The Baphomet Horde"
But I'd still be interested to see who can know's the answers to those q's

Actually Black Mage Carcass got it right - it was Doom. It was actually called fu ck Peaceville but I can't be bothered doing the censor thing. And you won't find anything for it because surprisingly Peaceville didn't want to release it!!!
And you all got the record company wrong. Lee Barrett founded Candlelight. He actually left the band when they signed to Candlelight.
Yeah the questions were a joke, couldn't be bothered thinking of any harder ones but hey you've all proved you are worthy! and tr00 for that matter.
blackestdeathmetaldude: Good list of grind/power violence there. Your new band sounds like Sore Throat! I think the latin idea is ace although you might get mistaken for a goth metal band.

Cool, i have no problem with it being like Clayman, I still orgasm at the riff in Bullet Ride and the solo in Suburban Me. :thumb:

yeah, amon, whatever you can give me (tips, sound samples, etc...) is good.
before you said its all from the gut. but when i only use gut, my growl is quite low. i have to use my throat for mid-range stuff and high pitched black metal stuff.

Alrighty, here we go... Remember Im no professional vocalist, I just do what I do and work on the techniques Ive learned from others. And to NinjaMonkey - Nah, In Flames have a much more Death Metal vocal than anything.
I think I need to point out a few things first. Most importantly, don't forget to learn how to sing. Know how to get your keys, and understand the concept of singing (even just theoretical) before trying to apply this kind of stuff, because it takes talent, patience and practice.
Death Metal Style Vocals
The first thing to relise, is that everything is in a very low key when working with DM Vocals. Try to resonate your voice through your diaphram from your 'stomach' and take large breathes. Try rapping (no Im not crazy), rapping will help you with your breathing and will help you learn how to not-exagerate your breathing on a low key(your own voice, without a singing presence).
For a small vocal excercise with DM Vocals try doing this in a low key:
uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ah
Use a very low key tone, as well each 'uh' let out a small portion of your breath. Don't try growling, just work with the tone and the breathing. Make sure to pronounce each of them, that's really important.
As for growling, each person has their own growling technique, and honestly It's hard to explain! But I'll try to do my best. For my own growling with DM Techniques, nothing comes from the throat except the my breath! Have you ever ridden on a bumpy car ride and your vocals start to ritter up? That's the same type of ritter you want to produce fundamentally. The best place to start with this is to close your mouth, take a deep breath, let your vocals go (with your mouth shut), try to vibrate your diaphram/vocal chords, and exhale through your nostrals. It may take a few times to produce, and some of you may be using your throat to produce the growls. This goes along with mixed variations of vocals such as Ebony Tears, At The Gates and Bethledeign. You'll know when you've done it, when you can feel your chest vibrate. Keep trying to work with those practices, eventually you'll want to move onto vocals and that's when everything comes together:
Rapping/Breathing Techniques
Stomach Vocals
Flexing the Vocal Chords/Diaphram
I suggest singing along with your favorite DM Artists to try to advance your vocals.
Some tips:
Drink Water/Gatorade only, something that can help renurish your body and put a layer to protect your Throat and Vocal Chords.
If you're throat starts to hurt, eat something very thick and sticky like Peanut Butter or Cookie Dough.
Practice Makes Perfect
Black Metal Vocals
Okay this really isn't my strongest subject, I admire and love Black Metal but I personally don't have the singing skills to get very far in this field but I know a few things.
The biggest key to BM vocals, is really knowing how to sing. These guys have the toughest job in the world, alot of their vocals come from the throat and pure talented singing. Their throats must kill after a gig! This is where professional singing lessons most definatly come into play, and will help advance any wishes you have as a career in this field!
The same tips I have for DM apply to BM, but I have to say if you're really serious about becoming a BM Vocalist, it's gonna take shtloads of work.
Last but not least
Im gonna marry Michelle Branch :)

There you go.

Well it's no doubt that In Flames, Dark Tranquility and At The Gates were singers before they were metal vocalists. Though the mixture is very skewed that it's hard to tell what direction they're going in.
Yeah your chest should be vibrating in the area of your diaphram.
Yes you're vocal chords can become rather killed because of growling, that's why it's always good to use a coating like Peanut Butter.

if you don't growl correctly, you could severely damage your vocal chords. you hafta warm up everytime you growl. warming up relaxes your muscles which in turn results in less tension on the chords, also, not to mention it makes your growls sound so much better. and it's best to have some water before you start growling. don't form your growls off of saliva, or food either. not good. as for the chest vibration dealy, yes that's good.

sure, massage your neck, chin and jaw muscles. also massaging your chest and shoulders helps too. while doing this, hum in different intervals. what works with me is i listen to a song with a melody that moves up in down a few octaves very stepwise, lots of intervals. i hum or sing "me, ma, mo, mu, mi" the melody of it for 5- 10 minutes while massaging my neck/jaw. this warms up your muscles and chords and also greatly expands your vocal range. after this, i suggest you do a little light growling to get your throat prepared for going all out. after this, scream/growl all you want. i can go for a good 2 hours before i even need a sip of water. i never go hoarse either. of course it takes some time to build up to that level, but you notice rapid improvement after a just a few days of this routine.

01-26-2004, 12:09 AM
pretty good, though it didn't seem like you were using your diaphram enough (though it could be just the recording). not my kind of growls (i prefer amon amarth style) but definitly sounded good. if you aren't using your diaphram much, then definitly use that. your diaphram helps control the force of the growl (harsh "whisper" to belting), staccato, slurred or 'normal' and holding a scream/growl. plus with the vocal techniques i explained, you'll have on ****in hell of a growl after not too long. just one thing, i don't know if you do this, but as with any other instrument, you do need to practice growling- daily if you can help it. if you do already practice then marvelous!
oh, and sorry, i don't have a souldclip of my vocals. i tried to record em recently through my comp mic just for the hell of it but it didn't work. my band is working on a demo though and once we get a song recorded i'll post a soundclip if you wanna hear. my growls are along the lines of johan hegg's of amon amarth, 'cept i go a bit deeper hehe
