Well we made it to 5002 anyway.

Here's to the best thread ever :chug:

Tooz - I tried spotting that riff but couldn't place it... sorry.

Wow...It's still open. I figured it would be closed by this morning. I've been listening to Marduk - Those Of The Unlight all morning. It had been a while since I'd listened to it all the way through. Good album.

And yes, I think it should be Greg that starts the next installment. :chug:

Raptured In Purulence is the only thing I could find that sounded similar.

On to the next thread I say!

Jondur

It's probaly not the biggest but I reckon it's the best. If it wasn't for this thread I would have hear Lykathea Afalme! There is so much info I reckon that even the biggest death metal fanatic could find something of use in here. Shame Coypu's not still around to honour it's last days!

We've covered everything from Grind to Gore to doom to death to black to thrash. Personally I think the next one should be expanded to "The Extreme Metal thread"

Toozey
12-09-2003, 07:59 AM
Thats a good idea, then we can talk about Doom and Black stuff more.

Kabz has been saying for a while that he was going to close it when it reached 5000 posts.

I really need to get over my whole fear of flying. Where I work has a plant in Dortmund, Germany. If I could "volunteer" to go to Dortmund for a week or so (for "training") and it just happen to be the week before Wacken. meh...it'll probably never happen though. Worth dreaming about though.

I reckon if we keep quiet - Kabz won't notice the thread is still going!

Dude, how do you plan to come to Cali with a fear of flying ;)

I wish I could pay for the **** plane tickets and lodging. If I had the money, I guarantee you I would be living in Germany ;)

It is a sad fact of life that metal attracts more than it's fair share of neo nazi tossbags and this is more true in Germany than many places. Having said that, a friend of mine went to the Ozzfest about three years ago in the States and said there were loads of rednecks with 'SS' tattoos so I guess it's universal.

However, I have seen a few of these dickheads there but they were never overt - no seig heiling or anything. It may be worse with the Onkelhz playing this year.

Rashka

meh, even at a manowar concert they come and show their white-circle-on-red-with-black-rune-in-it-banners.

and the presence may be even worse in the usa as none of that stuff is forbidden there (i have seen fake nike t-shirts with nike replaced by "nazi"... in kid's sizes!)

Why was/is Kabz gonna shut down the thread once it hit 5000 posts?

edit: I doubt anyone'll remember me in this thread (its like posting in a different forum), but I posted a bit in its early days...my "contribution" was mainly asking for songs to listen to from coypu etc, as at the time I'd hardly listened to any death metal..I'm still not its biggest fan, but I like some, and I read the death heads thread occasionally to keep up..

When I went to Texas a couple years ago for work I took the train. The train is a 2 day ride to Cali though. I'm gonna have to get over it. If my wife gets the trip through what she's doing now we're going to have to fly come June. The trip this year is to Paradise Island, Bahamas. Can't exactly drive there.

Hey guys... lets just give it a go again. I wanted to give you guys the honors of having the last words in such a memorable moment in metal. Hopefully my thread has become known across the nation and continent, all in honor of raising our horns to the sky in great praise of all that is metal. \m/ forever guys

Some personal news from me:

The Angeldeath page is brand new and has a pretty spiffy intro page. Theres still some information needed to be added, but the overall design is pretty badass i think. check it out:

www.angeldeath.net

Also, i scored a huge national hardcore band to headline a gig im setting up here. Locked In A Vacancy, they are a combination of stuff like Converge, Iron Maiden, Hatebreed, etc. theyre really really good.

Also, im bringing the mighty BETHLEDEIGN up from Virginia from this show. im so stoked!!! www.bethledeign.com these guys are simply amazing. you all must check them out. Its kinda like Americanized Euro death metal. Super evil, super melodic, and super brutal. plus they cover a carcass song!!!

Im also trying to score Wasteform for the gig. www.wasteform.com they are a local big band that was recently signed to Xtreem Music from Spain. Theyve played here in albany with everyone from Skinless to Suffocation.

thats all i can think of to say right now... im at school supposed to be doing work in my digital electronics class. hah. screw that.

but for now... thats all. lets get all started again guys.

Azagthoth: You ****ing rule! But what took you so long! I've been going crazy waiting for this!

So here you have it people: anything goes as long as it's metal and extreme (no nu-metal, whatevercore etc)

So Death metal, black metal, doom metal, grindcore, sludge, even some crusty punk (for it's influence on everything - I'm talking Discharge here!) is all good.

Horns up!

Son Of A Bitch

You make the stars
Illusions and dreams
You're what you are
D'you know what I mean

I hear you clear
See in your eyes
Lying to please
It pleases to lie

You say it's your way
You say we'll make it right to the top
Your bull**** gets me
What have you got

I don't believe
A word you say
You make me laugh
Get outta my way

You say it's your way
Now listen to what I think of you:

Son of a bitch Kiss my ***
Son of a bitch Son of a bitch You asshole Son of a bitch
**** suckin' mother****er I was right - take this

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Son of a bitch Kiss my ***
Son of a bitch, ...

With the risk of might getting caught in a fight over genres I still dare to say that In Flames no longer is Death Metla. Sure, they were a bit death metal-ish in the beginning but they soon developed into what is generally called "gothenburg metal".

If you want good death I'd suggest "Soulside Journey" by Darkthrone.

Umm...

If you any type of metal, it would be The Art Of Balance by Shadows Fall, that pwns. But extreme metal, it would either be Necrotism by Carcass or Domination by Morbid Angel. Very good stuff.

Theyve played here in albany with everyone from Skinless to Suffocation.

thats all i can think of to say right now... im at school supposed to be doing work in my digital electronics class. hah. screw that.

Calgary...haha, we get that question all the time. I think it goes something like this:

When two of the guitarists started the band, they decided to name it after the hill that Jesus was crucified on Cavalry (I think). But they thought it was Calgary. When I joined, I pointed this out to them and suggested that we could change it. We said "**** it" and just went with it.

Amon Amarth

Take this from me (hint @ name), Amon Amarth are gods. They play a rather unique style of metal dubbed Viking Metal for its themes, and lyrics. Their latest album "Versus The World" is an absolute marvel, and is a very strong and metal album. If you were to consider there musical attributes, it would fall directly into Melodic Death Metal, nothing more nothing less. Their drummer is amazing (Johan I think his name is). I suggest the followings songs to download:

Versus The World
Victorious March
Death In Fire
Friends Of The Suncross
Across The Rainbow Bridge (A bit slower)

Amon Amarth are Death Metal although they have alot of Black Metal stylings in there riffs. Usually they are pretty melodic although sometimes the melodies are quite underlying.

They have a large viking theme to there music also, basically its what the sing about. Like AmonAmarth said the name means Mount Doom from the Lord of the Rings. Also they have a Lord of the Rings reference in the title of there first album, "Once Sent From The Golden Hall"

Dew Scented has the absolute worst cover art. But I kinda like them.

Anyone heard of Blood Stained Knife or Thorazine? They played at the metal fest in Calgary. Thorazine is really pretty good. Death/grindcore. I cant wait for the second metal fest! This festival really is Calgarys only chance for metal.

Can anyone reccommend me some Death with "softer" vocals?

IE Opeth being too brutal for me personally, In Flames being fine

sorry i only just joined i know this is from a while back. Thing is you cant really get any proper death metal badns with melodic vocals because one of the factors that makes death metal is the low harsh vocals. The vocals are not there for melody....in death metal its the rest of the stuff (ie Guitars) that carry the melody.

some other gothenburg bands are At The Gates and In Flames

I like a lot of different Death Metal bands, and right now I'm trying to get into some new ones that I haven't heard much of. Anyone have any Carcass suggestions? "Go to Hell" is one of my current favorite songs, and "Heartwork" is brilliant, so I'm thinking that I'm going to like these guys a lot. I'd also like to get some songs from Children of Bodom, I've heard nothing but good about these guys too.

I'd also like to mention, I got the Cynic album "Focus" and this is an AMAZING cd. Anyone that doesn't already have it, go buy it now! You will not be disappointed!

Yeah, I'm expecting to buy "Focus" soon. I heard a few songs, and they were ace. The only thing I'm still getting used is the digital/robotic vocals, but I think I'm adapting to it.
I only have "Heartwork" by Carcass, and I haven't really heard their older songs. I think the older Carcass is more brutal than melodic, can't help you with that though.
I also enjoy Children of Bodom. I have "Hatebreeder", which is good. I'll get some song suggestions up sometime. I'm falling asleep.

if you like COB, try Kalmah. very similar and actually i think better musicians but not as well rounded in the song writing sense. Try the album "Swapmlord" or the songs "hades", "hollow heart", "dance of the water".

What's up guys! I just joined up. Nice to see lots of people into death metal. Didn't think there would be this many people. Anyway, I don't listen to much brutal death metal but here are some of my metal favorites.

In Flames
Dimmu Borgir
Children Of Bodom
Opeth
Bloodbath
Misery Index
Nile
Cradle Of Filth
Carcass
Amon Amarth
As I Lay Dying
Graveworm
The Crown
At The Gates
Arch Enemy
Dark Tranquility
Strapping Young Lad
Old Man's Child

Lots more but that's what came to my mind first. And thanks to the guy who recomended Vehemence a few pages back. That song Kill For God is amazing! I'll have to check out more from this band.

Just returned from a 600 mile round trip to the other end of the country (passing chez Toozey and Casa del Bartender on the way!!) - a gruelling drive made a lot easier by the following playlist:

Mayhem: De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Arch Enemy: Black Earth. (only about a hundred times better than the tripe they release nowadays)
The Almighty: Crank (much underrated)
At The Gates: Gardens of Grief
Samael: Ceremony of Opposites
Solstice: New Dark Age
Discharge: Hear Nothing, Say Nothing
Iron Maiden: Killers
Nuclear Assault: Handle With Care

Jondur
12-15-2003, 05:19 AM
It's by far their best CD. It is a lot darker and more death metal than their newer stuff though.

But the good bits ie the guitar solos, the melody, the drums are all there but with a more brutal singer, less silly power metal bits and chug, chug we're thinking of playing nu-metal bits.

Hey, I finally figured out why Kabz closed the 1st thread, obviously he knew about Lord Worm rejoining Cryptopsy and wanted to time it so that the rebirth of a great DM band conincided with the rebirth of a great DM thread! Ok, maybe not...

anyways, good to see that this thread is alive and kicking. Equally good to see that the influence is spreading and more people are getting into DM. As for bands to check out which are fairly friendly to the un-initiated, try Suidakra. These guys have clean and growling vox and do some interesting harmoniziations. In addition to the celtic-influenced guitar melodies and complex, epic songs with blazing distorted leads, mellow acoustic passages and catchy riffs throughout conspire to make for some very entertaining music.

My favorites are Heavan Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered, Opus Nocturne and Those Of The Unlight. Panzer Division Marduk (album with Fist****ing God's Planet) is very aggressive, very fast and brutal, but it gets boring. The songs just seem to run together. La Grande Danse Macabre is pretty good as well. World Funeral (their newest) is ok. I guess for all intensive purposes, I'd say get either Heavan Shall Burn or Those Of The Unlight.
