I suppose u would have their album convenant, i was just wondering on the front cover of the booklet, on the top right hand corner there is that open book, is the book on oyur cover got a blank page? Or does it have the symbols on it?
And coypu, those downloads didnt work either, they timed out ofter like 40%, but ill just keep trying on kazaa.
Their was one album in the local cd shop the other week, i think it was called failures of gods or failures for gods second hand, but cant spend money on cds for awhile so i couldnt get it, but is that album very good?

If your downloads timeout it is something wrong with your computer or connection.
Failures for gods is in my view their best album, the production is perfect (for the mood) and everything else is top notch. This album is the one that has given me the most not counting Gorguts - Obscura, so buy it at any cost! And give it a try since all Immolation material grow alot with time.

I just got the message "The cd you have ordered is out of stock..". So I decided to download the new Theory In Practice instead of buying it (atleast I tried). Have anyone here heard it yet? I have only heard it a few times but sofar it sounds very good, I doubt that it is better than Armageddon Theories but sofar I really like it. They have more guitar heroics in Yngwie style which isn't exactly what I wanted and the album is less technical than the old one but since this is TIP it isn't exactly a problem.
For thoose of you who have no clue Theory In Practice is a Very technical band from sweden who play in the style of a more melodic Meshuggah but atleast twise as technical and with faster but less original solos. I think this is the best band to ever come out of sweden (almost (Dissection)).
A sample song from their new album :
Theory In Practice - Colonizing the Sun (http://medieteknik.bth.se/joba01/mp3/theory_in_practice-ColonizingTheSun.mp3)
Sorry for the comercial act but this band is amazing!

Have anyone of you guys ever heard Radio KCUF? The Lords of destruction with "the goat" aka "DJ christian sodomy" is really great, he always seems to be on drugs and speaks alot of **** and also gives some nice speaches about loads of things but mostly the music is really really great.
Here is a sample of a show:
1. Capharnum - "Delusional Imprisionment" (Reality Only Fantasized/Capharnum)
2. Aurora Borealis - "For Your Comprehension" (Praise the Archaic Lights Embrace/Aurora Borealis)
3. Deprecated - "Induced Deception" (Deriding His Creation/Deprecated)
4. Cryptopsy - "Loathe" (Whisper Supremacy/Century Media)
5. Deeds of Flesh - "Ritual of Battle" (Inbreeding the Anthropophagi/Repulse Records)
6. Gorguts - "Illuminatus" (Obscura/Olympic)
7. Nile - "The Howling of the Jinn" (Ramses Bringer of War/Visceral Productions)
Lots of good **** and it only gets better, I have personally found half of all my favorite bands from listening to this show so check it out : www.kcuf.org they have pretty much closed down but they have a few shows left and if you need more I have about 25 shows on my computer and they all rule!

ehhhh Cryptopsy does Phobophile....not Cannibal Corpse.
i really like Mangled off Eaten Back To Life.
NECROPHAGIST:
let me just say....wow.
they totally just rewrote the book of what i thought technical death metal was. wow. do you know if they use a drum machine? their sound is so mechanical....its so sweet.
ill be downloading more when i get home from school.

Best MA song i'd say God of Emptiness, best CC, probably F**ked with a knife or Devoured by Vermin. Anybody see the video for that?
Favourite Death metal bands:
Cryptopsy
Krisiun
Abhorrence
Sepultura (early stuff)
Morbid Angel
Obituary
Decapitated
Deicide
Death
Cannibal Corpse
Gorguts
Deinonychus...
I could go on all day! :D
Does In Flames count as death metal, cos they rule!
One more thing, it might be more on the Black Metal side, but EVERYBODY should download some stuff by Anaal Nathrakh, check out Humanity is Cancer or Submission is for the Weak, it's the heaviest stuff i've heard in a fair old bit, and the blast beats are truly scary:eek: GET SOME NOW!!!

I know who does what songs but I kindof missread what he wrote and thought he wanted some somekind off best of all DM not just CC.
Yeah they use a drum machine but thankfully he programmed it pretty well and not as Mortician or similar. And they definately set a new standard in Technical Death and I think that they are the best new DM band at the moment, I hope they get their new album done sometime soon with a real bass player and a drummer for that would make it all perfect and as you said abit less mechanical sounding.
Download the new TIP too, they have some very fast solos and overall Very technical material.

Napalm death are grindcore. And I'm not their biggest fan but some of their stuff is pretty good but some is also horrible so it all depends what you are listening to from the band since they have released alot of album with very different quality.

Immortal are black metal and I never realy got into them but I can ask my black metal friend whenever he gets online. You could try ****ed in black at first and go from there but I'm not really a fan so I cannot say that it is their best.
If you by any chance meant Immolation you should get Unsaved, Close to a world below, dawn of possession and Here In After to get a good idea of how all their albums sound like.

hehe I get your point about Marduk and you are so right on the spot, their songs tend to blend together in one mess sounding all the same and I usually get bored very soon but as a 5min long explotion of hatred they are supreme.
If you like Immolation be sure to check out Incantation later on, they are similar but abit darker than Immolation but not as brilliant (my view atleast)

So how many here is into Jazz/Death like : Atheist, Cynic, Pestilence and such? Personally I think that it is really good stuff that have a good and healthy balance between Technicality and Beuty.

Pessimisst are good, I especially like thier first album which had great intensity and enthusiasm, their second is great too but I don't like all of it.
Anyone heard their new one? I have not heard it yet but I fear that it will not stand up to their earlier efforts judging from the discussion on Teufelstomb and their heavy criticism of it.

I don't know if coypu ever mentioned it or not. I just stumbled upon them a couple days ago and downloaded "Blood For the Gods". Very good stuff. Technical and dark.

Alright I just got the new pessimist album and from what I have heard sofar it is about twise as brutal as their earlier stuff but the production is bad and the overall songs itself doesn't have the same quality but I like it alot anyway but just not as much as their old stuff. They have gone more towards what almost can be described as the extremeness of Disgorge(cal) but with abit more normal vocals. So if you want calm and soothing songs I suggest that you avoid this and get their older material.

I think vader are pretty cool but while their stuff is killer for the first 5 min I tend to get bored if I listen to it longar than that, but maybe it is just me?
Didn't morbid angel start before Vader or am I demented already? Then it should be the otherway around that the vader got in from Trey? (I may be wrong so don't go hard on me)

Hey coypu and everyone else here who has the good taste to like death metal! I've only recently discovered this forum and have found it's an excellent way of wasting time when I should be working;) So a little bit of info about me ( hey you asked - I'm not just being self centred!) : I've been into extreme metal 7 years and metal in general for 13. Bred on Maiden, Metallica and Slayer I now mainly listen to Death and Doom metal. I play drums in a Doom band (along the lines of Solstice and MDB) called Unsilence. Feel free to check out our website at www.unsilence.co.uk My favourite bands are Carcass, Candlemass, MDB, ATG, Death, Celtic Frost, Solstice, Vader, Dismember etc etc the list goes on and on. I do some tape trading, buy demos and fanzines so drop me a line if you're in a band etc. Anyway thats it for now....

****! Good stuff Jondur! But I agree with coypu, I'd prefer growling vocals. I just think it sounds so much darker. With the clean vocals it sounds too much like an ordinary rock band, like something you'd hear on the radio (ICK!). But that's just my opinion...
Anyway, good to see another old school death head on board. We gotta take back this forum once and for all!!! :D

well...i always hear Trey going on and on about how much he loves Vader....so im not sure. i think Vader started first, but i too am not sure. the more im listening to them, the more im liking them. i really like the melodic, yet crushing aspect to them. you can definately hear that in Morbid Angel. so im guessing that Trey got it from them, because its far more pronounced in Vader.

vortex of dimmu borgir sings with a clean voice and he sounds just as dark as anyone else. i don't know how clean danni filth's voice is considered to be but he is not growling all the time. he is fu cking spooky when he whispers. my point is you don't need to growl to sound dark
nrvsreck
04-08-2002, 11:52 AM
No, not necessarily. I've heard very good clean vocals that are very dark and fit the music perfectly. I love female vocals too, in Black & Goth Metal bands. But I've come to really dig the growling stuff. It's almost inhuman. Just sooo black and unearthly. Strange now when I think back to when I used to hate it so much.

Clean vocals can definately be good but in a clean vs. growl situation I would choose growl without any hesitation.

definately growls. i mean....Steve Tucker and Chief Spires. clean is cool sometimes.....like how Dimmu uses it. but overall...growls. like someone said...its almost inhuman. it makes the music so much more volatile and violent. it rules

To be brutally honest I found them to be incredibly boring and they also had pretty lousy songwriting there are so much better bands in the ultra brutal thingy that I rather listen to but I guess we all have different taste but this just wasn't for me.
Jondur
04-10-2002, 03:42 AM
In regards to the clean vs. growling debate we've just recorded a new MCD featuring.... some growled vocals! I feel you can express more emotions with clean vocals but when the riffs are heavy enough, only growling will do! I don't think however you can say the likes of MDB, Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus sound like rock bands!
nrvsreck
04-10-2002, 07:01 AM
The singing in MDB definitely doesn't sound like rock singing. I'll have to check out those other two you mentioned. Your singer though, just sounded like some rock band I've heard before. I'll have to give it another listen and see. But it ain't bad, the music is great, the singing could be somewhat lower or "growlier" though, IMHO.
Jondur
04-10-2002, 11:30 AM
You'll just have to wait for the next one for the growls :) Obviously I'll argue the case for my band because err.... it's my band so we'll move on to grunting vs screaming? Personally I go for the mid range David Vincent as opposed to Chris Barnes.
ps I'll start a doom metal thread for the Candlemass / Solitude Aeturnus thing! ;)
xAzagthothx
04-10-2002, 02:46 PM
i prefer Steve Tucker over Vincent. i think he did phenominal on Formulas and Gateways....but Morbid Angel will always be remembered for Dave. i have yet to hear Jared Anderson sing with the band yet, as he is Tuckers replacement.
coypu
04-10-2002, 02:50 PM
I really like vincents early vocals on Altars & blessed they suited the music very well then later on he was still good but I never really liked him very much on Domination or Covenant. Tucker is good but I never will consider him to be one of the best because eventhough his vocals are solid he isn't outstanding in anyway at all so sure he did a good job but nothing more.

The vocals of Nile are nice but they use 3 vocalists so I'm not sure how to give credit exactly and he isn't that outstanding but maybe if he had done it all by himself but I'm still not sure.

The loss of Lord Worm is a real tragic for his vocals & lyrics where unique and they worked also extremely well with cryptopsy who where seriously maimed by the loss and haven't recovered yet.
Reason : He got a well paid job and he also didn't think that his vocals would suit the increasing technical nature of Cryptopsy.
The others are replacable in my view and I think that Corpsegrinder works very well with CC, just listen to their live material and it becomes obvious.
Reason: Didn't they kick him out because he sucked or whas it that he didn't have time with both SFU & CC? I'm nut sure but I have got the impression that they didn't think that is was a greater loss.
Tucker was good but he isn't all that unique and I'm sure that the new vocalist will fill he place very well.
Reason : Family?
Who is Spires?

I don't know, some people think of it as cheating but personally I have nothing against it as long as it is done right and sound good but if I where a vocalist I prabably would had been against it but luckily I'm not.

Bit late with these replies but every other day it seems I can't connect to this site. Oh well. Coypu - check out Mourning Beloveth from Ireland at www.mourningbeloveth.com for some very brutal doom/death (the new My Dying Bride is pretty good as well). On the Morbid Angel vocals front, I saw them with Jared Anderson and they were ****. I really don't think his vocals fit at all (they sounded like a bad covers band) and this view has been reinforced by listening to Hate Eternal. His voice is quite weak and harsh whereas Vincent and Tucker both had quite deep, full growls.

Not sure what people mean with progressive death metal but I would not be suprised if they where refering to bands like Cynic, Atheist, Pestilence and such and if that is the case then you could describe it a technical freeform death metal that more than often is softer than the avarage normal death metal band. I know that some refer to bands like Death & Morbid Angel too so perhaps it is bands who are doing something new and are progressing towards a more technical nature.

Thoose bands are pretty good, Zyklon reminds me alot of Myrskog though but still good stuff. Are you familiar with Nocturnus? They are very good in my view and pretty technical and unique and here is a song for thoose who might wanto check them out : http://galaxen.net/~coypu/musik/nocturnus_-_Andromeda_Strain.mp3

Lately I have become really tired and a littlebit annoyed with all the thousands of standard death metal bands out there than just sound like something that has been done 100 times before, nowadays I download less and less new albums and only search for the real brilliant stuff and have started to throw away all that doesn't qualify. And it also seems like the flow of new original bands have been on decline since very long and that there is only a handfull of good new bands but where non can compete with old classics like Atheist, Cynic, Carcass and such. Well enough complaining I just haveto settle with Necrophagist for a while and hope that Immolation releases a new album soon.

They're not really death metal, but they've picked up influence from it... and there's definitely no one else out there that's like them. They're pretty much an instrumental band.

Candiria is a very good band. i really like their jazz/hardcore mix that they do.
on the show front.....2 events have been cancelled due to a club loosing it's liquor liscense:
Converge/Hatebreed/Skinless and Gwar/Soilent Green were cancelled. sooooo sucks.
ahhh spring break is finally here. finally time to jam with people to try and start something up. i should be ashamed of myself....ive been out partying and having fun more than my search for Trey contact and playing guitar.....and not playing for 4 hours a day the past 5 days has really hindered my playing....i needa get my *** in gear.

I listened to ...and oceans and while it was fun to hear techno black metal I still feel alot more comfortable with some primitive black metal in the way old burzum and darkthrone did it. Black Metal is supposed to be dark, primitive, raw and such and by making it to refined you will loose the essence of black metal and end up with something else.
nrvsreck
04-16-2002, 05:41 PM
Yeah, you do wind up with something else. But is that something else always so bad? I'm not defending the direction Black Metal is going, I like both old and new.
What about new Burzum? All that synth music? I think it's interesting considering what Varg is trying to do with it. Certainly not Metal, but then some of my favorite music isn't Metal.

I'd say try and get Human Waste, it's the one that got me into them.
I don't think CoF are anywhere close to black metal anymore, they've got bits goth bits, death bits, trad bits etc. I prefer the early stuff.
Whether you like old or new black metal, Thorns' self titled album is well worth checking out.
As you've probably guessed, i didn't hate emperor's last, but it was a bit disappointing.
I find it kind of difficult to ignore the politics behind the music now, i mean Darkthrone's 'Transylvanian Hunger' is a great album, but the stuff about Pure Aryan Metal sucks. Same goes for Burzum.

I think new burzum is pretty close to the old stuff eventhough it is synth but in prison you are not allowed to have guitars as far as I know so what what he supposed to do. He has had stuff like that before and I think that what he did is in the vein of his old but only done with other tools.
I do not mind progress but for me the beuty in black metal was always the raw primitive side of it all, it brought out dark emotions in a way no other genre could, by refining and making things more professional, symphonic or whatever you loose the dark feeling and end up with alot of cheese (CoF).

I just checked the US VH1 site and the UK VH1 site and apparently our Rock Show was cancelled some time ago. I used to watch it, but it sucked for the most part. Mostly Hard Rock, no real Metal. Then it disappeared. Your Rock Show actually rocks! I wondered why so many people raved about "The Rock Show". You miserable European bastards! black metal: overtly satanic......black dressing, gothic appereance....very raw abrassive
ie: Mayhem, Marduk, Emperor, Dark Funeral, Immortal
death: very technical....aggressive, talented musicians, gutteral vocals....gore/spiritual themes mainly
ie: Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Nile, Kataklysm

Anyone have any thoughts about the future of Death Metal? Which bands are the one who will carry the music further and which new bands are really promising and groundbraking?
Jondur
04-22-2002, 08:11 AM
The future of death metal, in my opinion, lies with the likes of Nile and Crytopsy. The introduction of eclectic influences while keeping the feel of death metal will keep the genre alive and vibrant. However there will always be a future in nostalgia and if someone can resurrect the feel of the old masters but without copying - then there will be a market for them. If anyone can get that classic Autopsy sound (apart from Abcess) then I'd be willing to give them a listen!
I think hyperspeed death metal such as Hate Eternal and the likes will die a death fairly soon. I think people have heard too much speed and not enough innovation! Playing a riff at 200bpm+ does not make it a good riff!!
xAzagthothx
04-22-2002, 11:23 AM
i agree. mindless, blazing speed death metal with no feel and no meaning is boring. its cool to listen to sometime, but i prefer Morbid Angel-like dm with exhorbitant meaning.
i feel Nile and the likes will carry the torch into the future, that is if the members dont get hurt or leave....lol

I agree with the last couple of posts. Blazin fast speed for the sake of being fast doesn't make it good DM. Blazin fast originallity that has meaning to it makes good DM. Thanks to everyone who has mentioned Nile...when I first signed up I had heard of them, but never actuallly heard them. I downloaded some of their songs a week or so ago and they are great. I just ordered their "Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephr" disc. I think they'll be around awhile.

Gorguts should get some credit too, their experimental style is very unique and they are truly inventive. I agree on Cryptopsy and perhaps nile if they manages to integrate their influenced into their songs and not as fillers but things look promising. I really hope that people will start to give some recognition to Atheist & Cynic and do some influnced music that takes what they did and develope it further but since it demands alot from the musicians we might haveto wait a very long time for the next Cynic.

None of the soundclips worked so I couldn't check them out.
It took me a long while to get into gorguts 'obscura' but once I really understood it I was hooked, that **** is the best I have heard in experimental DM.
Another very interesting side project is Fredrik Thordendals solo album (he is in meshuggah), have anyone heard it and what do you think of it? Personally I love it because it is more experimental than meshuggah and a little "cosmic" and overall really great guitar play among many things.

Sol Niger Within is ****ing amazing. the playing on that album is truly brilliant. the thing i like about it is that the whole cd goes along like its one big song. if your not paying attention, the changes to songs isnt noticeable. also.....the leads on that cd are, as coypu said, very cosmic and spacey. very genious work. its a little contrived in that there isnt much variation, like i said before about it sounding like one big song, but that doest matter. its an awesome cd.
Frederick Thordendal rules.

They re-released Atheist - Peice of time a while ago but Unquestionable presence & Elements are as far as I know very hard to get hold of but there is always mp3 or if you wait 1-2 years then they will hopefully re-release the 2 others as they should have done a long time ago now.

Some good news (taken from www.teufelstomb.com)
Hey Paulo
We are going in the studio in a few weeks. The new album will be called "Unholy
Cult" and will be out here in the states on Olympic and Listenable in Europe.
It will again have 8 unholy tracks...so far a mixture of
everything....definitely extreme...maybe a bit more than the last. Any
way...yeah, we know about the site....we will after the album is done....can't
do everything unfortunately.
About the tab stuff....we really don't have any. I don't read music so your out
of luck....just check out some bootleg videos, get it close and crank up the
distortion.
Anyway...thanks for your support as always

I listen to bands like and my favorite genres are Death Metal and Grindcore and some classic Speed and Thrash Metal
Hypocrisy
In Flames
Nile
Godogry
Dismal Euphony
Disbelief
Killswitch Engage
Internal Bleeding
Non Death Metal bands I like
Megadeth
Forbidden
Overkill
I do not care for the segregative nature of Metal music... I was reading that there was a show that they had separate stages for the Heavy Metal and one for the Death Metal.
I also am amuse by what I call Metal Elitists thinking either Death Metal is the best or that Heavy Metal is the best or something that thinks they know everything there is to know about Metal music. I like other bands as well but I willl not post them what I do know is this. Metal music debates over who sold out or which type of metal music is best gets to be interesting and funny at the same time.

Mick7 I've no problem with you being on this thread but there's nothing corny about DEATH they were true death metal gods and one of my all time favourite bands! Did you get into nu metal first? I can't believe it was the other way around. You're right about people being too judgemental about other peoples tastes but snobbery is rife in extreme metal. If you claim to like CoF then I personally know 10 people who will say " I only like the demos". There seems to be a need to say "I am more underground than thou" and it doesn't help really. But seriously this is the place to find out about more death metal - they may flame you a bit but they know their stuff!:)

Yeah buddy I see where you are coming from...
I dont wanna start off on the wrong foot with you as I like death metal so we are alike and shouldnt fight against each other but against TEENYBOPPERS!
I did enjoy and get into death metal first, my first ever cd being arise by Sepultura and since then I havn't looked backed. Thereason why my name is Mick7 and my pic is as well is because I joined this forum when everyone was getting caught in the hype of IOWA and i decided for my name to be Mick7 (as i am a guitarist as well!)
I still enjoy IOWA and the such only becuse of the ferocity and if it gets turned up loud enough it hurts my ears! (Which in music I usually go for)
Lastly i listen to music for the simple fact that i like to listen to it not like these other guys that are good are guitar and listen for the technical side of things but i listen to music purely for the fact that i love music and mostly heavy or death metal being my highlights.
Jopdur I hope this answers your question about me being a nu-metal head (which I asure you i am not!) and I hope that we can each talk about death metal in the future!) and of course slag off all the teenyboppers as well!
Until next time my death associated friends - Catcha Jake

Lyrics aren't the only thing that make up death metal. I don't think Slayer is death, they are classified as thrash. Their vocals are high pitched (sort of) and I think Kerry King said that he doesn't even like Death metal.

Slayer are definately not death metal. slayer are the definitive fathers of thrash. sure, their lyrics talk about death...but if thats the basis...then Staind could be said to be death metal because their singer talks about suicide and ****.
also, Toms vocals are quite high pitched. that alone takes it away from death metal. also, Slayer cant solo for **** lol. i cant stand ANY of their solos. theyre sooooo bad imo. the rest of the music is ****ing phenominal, but they just cant solo.
slayer is thrash. anyone who says different is an idiot.
GertrudeMcCrack

I reckon the confusion comes cos slayer did have a heavy influence on death metal, even though they don't actually play it. Death is thrash metal taken to new extremes, IMO.

"Proper" Death Metal? If you only want to listen to the 100% "pure" DM bands then you limit yourself alot and Dying Fetus is not half as "correct" as Suffocation would be if we think like you do (which we don't!).
And get hold of some Cryptopsy right away, their none so vile album is a masterpice and it kills Dying Fetus with no effort.

The atmosphere is amazing and it is far, far, more metal than Dynamo! There are other European festivals that are probably more death metal (**** the Commerce etc) but Wacken is just great. The fact that the reformed Candlemass (complete with Messiah Marcolin! Will he be wearing the monk suit? ) are playing is just the icing on the cake. Opeth is definately not underrated, they are praised to no end by newbie metal heads (no offense I think it is great that more people get into DM).
Meshuggah get alot of praise from everywhere and from what I have heard they are quite popular in America and was in a very big zine a while ago.
Personally I think that Gorefest & Mexican Cenotaph have been forgotten by many, Gorefest are just great DM while Cenotaph have amazing melodic, aggressive, passionate songs that are top notch, people really ough to get into this band!

I have a question. I am a Jew and i believe in God. That being said do you think it is strange that i listen to DM. B/c some bands sing about how God is fake and that sort. Yeah, overall effect is more important than lyrics, where the sound of the vocals as a primal instrument bears more weight than any ( usually undecipherable ) words therein...
Like that 1st Obituary album ( CLASSIC! ) had no lyrics, only gibberish, growly roarings & stuff:
" Wroaaarghly wroagley WROAAAGH!,
Barra zorra ZYEAEEEEY... etc..."
& it sounds KILLER, if u r into DM & ain't heard this, well!.... tsk tsk!

If I paid attention to and let myself get worked up over every song from every Black and Death Metal band I listen to I wouldn't be listening to very much. I don't pay close attention to the lyrics, but I don't ignore them either. Some I agree with and some are pure stupidity. I just take 'em with a grain of salt and listen to the music instead.
Obituary is one of my all time favorite Metal bands! Death and Obituary are what got me hooked on DM ten years ago and they're still the staples of my Metal collection. Even with all the great DM I've discovered recently I still always come back to those two! The legends, in my opinion.

heres something i suggest you all do with your favorite bands who have 3+ cds:
if you have a multi disk changer in you cd player, put as many of your bands cds in there...starting w/ their first and go up. i did this today with Morbid Angel: i went from Altars up through Formulas on my "mental health day off" from school...heh. it was really amazing to see the progression the band has made. they have matured so much its unbelievable.
and FORMULAS STILL OWNS YOU ALL!!!
lol
heres something: if ur a musician here, list your gear. ill start:
Guitars:
BC Rich USA Bolt On Warlock w/ kahler trem, Dimarzio x2n p/u
Ibanez RG7620 EMG707
Ibanez RG470 stock
*want a blood red ironbird w/ floyd*
Amps:

Marshall 1960a cab
Marshall VS65r
Pedals:
Crybaby
DOD analog delay

I've seen Nile twice now and each time I just stood there completely mesmerised! They are just an amazing live band!
I play drums and have:
A hybrid of Tama artstar kick and Floor Tom, Premier rack Toms
Pearl Freefloating brass snare,
Loadsa Sabian and zildjian cymbals
Tama Iron Cobra double pedal
and I've got a crappy Ibanez guitar to write songs on
And yes there should be more love for the first two Obituary albums!

Still got my old JMP 110w head & 1969 4x12...
Got it back in '90 & it's still going strong, sound beats the crap out of any new rack stuff I heard, but a little battle scarred now from touring back in the day...
Guitarwise I'm on the verge of buying a(nother) BCRich virgin after a "break" involving my old Yamaha... mmm!

Thought you might be interested Opeth and Arch Enemy are doing a UK tour. My band tried to get the extra support slot but it looks extremely unlikely. Oh well at least I can get properly pissed!

I once saw a Dimmu Borgit video with the band and people in suits and some half naked chics and it was cheesy as hell so since that day I have been avoiding them as the plague but if you guys could recomend a few songs I could give them a new try.

ok. i saw nile in the record store, was amazed to find they had some of there albums. amongst the catacomes of such and such.(cant be bothered going and seeing what the rest of the words are)
but i have to say, whoa, that is some seroisly good stuff man, so brutal, so intense, so so good, i love smashing of the anitu the most.
I know they live in the states but of what decent are they? Some of their lyrics are in egyption arent they?
and also, i was listening to morbid angels opening the gates on the route 666 soundtrack and was just amazed at that double bass speed, ****, is that really him doing it that quick or is he aidded by whatever they use to make it sound better or faster, and does he do it that fast live?

yes, indeed, that is all human drumming on Opening Of The Gates...done by Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel. he uses triggers to get a smoother sound. and yes, he does it live.
BeelzeBloke
05-06-2002, 02:29 PM
Sandoval is phenominal...
I saw him stand in for their support act when they played Brum years back...
The support band were swedish ( forgot who it was ) & their drummer couldn't make the gig cos of some customs/official crap.
So Pete Sandoval drummed their set in his place, F tight as hell< better than their original drummer...
Then about ten minutes later he played the Morbid Angel set just as perfect as we've come to expect.
Both sets ran to well over an hour each... WTF????
the bloke's inhuman!!! Or could it be Trey's voodoo???
NEway that's why it's so hard to find good DM drummers, cos the standards have been set so high... & drumming like that is REALLY HARD!
EVERY drummer I know is BLOWN AWAY by death metal, every one of them rate it most highly & don't seem all narrow-minded about it's extremity at all... they just listen with their mouths open for a while, then their knees start going up & down really fast with a big grin on their face.
Every now & then shout: "F*** me is that REAL???"
Death Metal is good for you.

yeah Pete Sandoval is amazing. he uses triggers now on his drums so everything he plays is much clearer. i prefer the open, very atmospheric sound of Formulas....but he sounds amazing no matter what he plays on.
anyone know who will be playing with Nile on their next cd and tour? im going to be seeing them on the tour.

My ranking of Carcass albums:
1. Necroticism - Descanting the insalubrious
2. Symphonies of Sickness
3. Heartwork (the uploaded song Heartwork was from this)
4. Reek of putrefaction
5. Swansong (Keep on rotting in the free world was from this)
1. is one of the best albums ever and technical yet true to their original grind form.
2. Abit rawer than necroticism but none the less a true masterpeice.
3. Melodic Death Metal, definately a few steps down but still very catchy and good.
4. Their first album, horrible production, short and insane songs that are almost goregrind but still a classic.
5. They sold out bigtime but some songs are actually enjoyable but no way near their other stuff.
Here is the focus album : http://galaxen.net/~coypu/musik/Death%20Metal/

fu.ck people like that distaint (sp) fu.ck piss me off, basing every opinion of his on death metal from a couple of cannibal corpse song titles and their extremly growly vocals.
cc isnt a band i would recomend if you are just starting to get into death metal, but then again some people might say differently. (they were the 1st i got into)
well sinse this thread is gone form the front page, ill get it back with, how did u all get into death metal?
well i wouldnt call myself deaths biggest fan, i love it, but im still sorta new to it, but when i 1st got my comp, (about 3 years ago) i found scour, and just downloaded heeps of shi.t, i sorta got into it then stopped listening and then have just got back into it this year
the songs that got me into it were:
cannibal corpse - the spine splitter, and pounded into dust, gallery of suicide.
cryptopsy - serpents coil
rotting christ - the world made end
and a couple of deicide i cant remeber.
they were the 1st death metal songs i had ever heard, and i didnt mind the vocals at all, ive always liked them.
so what were your 1st songs? everyone.

I got into death metal as it was being born.
1st LP bearing the words "Death Metal" was "Power from Hell" by Onslaught.... in 1985!!!
Way too early really to be classed as true DM but U can hear it on it's way...
Onslaught were like a real old band in the Discharge vein, kinda Venomy old filthy fast punky metal from well before back in the days!!! roots of the roots !
God I'm such an old man of death metal...

I got into DM as a kid...I was into things like Slayer and Metallica, and started buying a few magazines. I saw the adds for death/black metal bands like Unleashed, Morbid Angel, Death, Cannibal Corpse and many, many others so I started looking for their CD's. I think the first death/black cd I bought was either Deicide's debut, or Venom's Prime Evil...can't remember which on I got first. Ever since then, I've been hooked.
