Go to http://www.earache.com
That is Earache Records website and they have cool stuff on their like photos of Morbid Angel working on their new album H2K3 and they also have the first Carcass interview in over 5 years.
I just ordered some stuff from Earache Records and I would like to know what you think of these albums
Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness" in slipcase remastered with video and photos
Hate Eternal's "King Of All Kings"
In late May I went to a kick @$$ show. I got to see Shai Hulud and The Haunted not that they are death metal or anything, but still a good band. The headliner of the show was Kataklysm. Now that is death metal. They were f#cking great! Their guitarist signed my Shadows and Dust American Tour shirt. They were very nice guys and they put on a great show.

They ahve a new album out called "As the Palaces Burn". I've heard that it is way different from their debut "New American Gospel". In this album the vocalist Randy still screams, but when Rob Zombie interviewed him at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on Headbangers Ball Randy said that you can understand what he is saying on this album. It has gotten good reviews, but the only thing that I have heard was dissapointing about their new album is the length of the album. New American Gospel came out in 2000 and "As The Palaces Burn" came out May 6th of this year and the length of the album is only 38 minutes or something. If you think about it it is kind of dissapointing that it took them 3 years just to put out 38 minutes of music, but during those 3 years they have become better musicians. The next time I go out I need to get myself a copy of New American Gospel and I might get "As The Palaces Burn". I saw "As The Palaces Burn" for 10 dollars in case you are interested.

hmmm... I've lost touch with them since Elegy really. Black Winter Day is still an all time classic. It's cool that they went in a different direction but I don't think the vocals hold up to such a melodic/atmospheric style.

well im out. enough rambling. time for Morbid Angel.
Morbid Angel proved to me that death metal wasn't noise like a whole lot of the people that hate the genre call it. Morbid Angel's music is technical, fast, awesome, and kicks @$$. I was just listening to "Gateways to Annihilation" and as I listened to it I thought were does Trey come up with those awesome solos. I would recommend "Gateways to Annihilation" for those that are just getting into death metal. My favorite song off of that album is "Summoning Redemption".

Iwannarock: i believe the album is due out sometime around August/September. Fuse TV's 'metal' show Uranium did a studio report on the album which will be airing in September. also, word has it that the first big tour for the album will take place beginning in september. so, this fall should see lots of Morbid Angel action.
on an album note, mixing has begun. Tucker finished all his bass and vocal parts, and treys rtyhm guitars are done as well as petes drumming. nobodies heard trey's solos yet! hehehe

Don't listen to Gateways.... get Covenant or Blessed are the Sick.
Hopefully H2K3 will be a return to form. Formulas was ace after the slight dissapointment of Domination but Gateways just didn't sound right. And it showed even more in the live setting.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say this, but last night I got my first album from Death. I got "Scream Bloody Gore" and i'm loving it. Right now i'm listening to the song "Scream Bloody Gore". Great stuff. I'm not sure what style these bands are so maybe you all can tell me. Are Lamb of God, Meshuggah, and Sepultura death metal? I don't think Sepultura are, but i'm not sure. Also are Skinless any good? I got an e-mail from Relapse Records about Skinless doing a tour with Dying Fetus and something also about them doing a video shoot. They said that video should premire on Fuse T.V.'s (formerly Much Music) Urainum show and Headbangers Ball around mid or late August. Another thing that I would like to ask is are Immolation, Autopsy, Gorguts, Hypocrisy, and Goatwhore any good?

Glad you're enjoying that album! It's a much overlooked classic. I suggest you work your way through the Death back catalogue so get "Leprosy" next - enjoy the sickness get to the widdliness later!
Lamb of God, Meshuggah and Sepultura aren't what you could term "true" death metal. I'm not going for the elitist thing but they have elements of DM (Sepultura going as far as going to Tampa to record "Arise" with Scott Burns!) but aren't just DM.
Skinless are good but not great.
Immolation are excellent - Dawn of Possession is one of my all time faves. The new one , "Unholy Cult" is pretty dammmm good too.
Autopsy are probably my favourite DM band. If you liked Scream Bloody Gore then you'll love them! Chris Reifert (Drums/Vox) also played Drums on Scream Bloody Gore! He has the sickest vocals ever!
Gorguts are a band of two halves. They were fairly standard death but then they went mad.... and brilliant! Obscura is a must have album
Hypocrisy are second rate. Good but not great. They've got some good songs - the most famous being "Roswell 47" which is a dead ringer for Carcass's "Buried Dreams" but too much of their stuff is just average.
Goatwhore have one of the members of Acid Bath. That's about as much as know about them so over to someone else on that one.
Hope that's of some help.

What is a good album that I should get from Autopsy? So Lamb of God and Meshuggah aren't all the way death metal? Also do you know about this band called Bloodbath? They are suppossed to be the like an awesome death metal band with lots of special guests. I think that the vocalist of Opeth is in the band. They have an album out called "Resurection Through Carnage" is it any good?

Bloodbath are a band, more of an sideproject than a serious one, but there are no special guests, just the four members playing old school Swedish death metal. yes, Mike Akerfeldt is the singer. also, Dan Swano from Katatonia (I think) is the guitarist. very good band = very good album.
Jondur - can you name me any bands that sound very similar to Unsilence? I've been attempting to get into doom, but I couldn't stand Candlemass or My Dying Bride. any suggestions?

I ordered two Cannibal Corpse albums and that should come in next week. I got "Tomb of the Mutilated" the reissued, remastered, 2002 edition with bonus track and bonus video and I ordered "Live Cannibalism" hint hint it's a live album. I want to know if "Tomb of the Mutilated" is any good. What I got to hear in sound samples is pretty good. The only song that I have heard completely off of that album is Hammer Smashed Face, because I have the cd single. Also is Live Cannibalism any good? Finally got some news. Malevolent Creation are going to tour in Brazil and it will be their first tour in Brazil since 1991 and during that tour they are going to be filming a dvd and recording for a live cd. By the way are Malevolent Creation any good? I know that they have changed their line-up a few times and that the original vocalist is no more, because of drugs and now they have the vocalist from Hateplow. So are Malevolent Creation any good? Also don't forget to answer to my question about if Cannibal corpse's "Tomb of the Mutilated" is any good?

Worm Infested that you could only get on the internet is now going to get its in store release, because it has been selling very well on the internet so if you don't own this e.p. already then you should get it, because it contains rare cuts from their latest album Gore Obsessed. You didn't like Candlemass????!!!!! Then I give up! Which album did you hear? I say - get Nightfall and then listen to it at least 20 times!
Have you heard Unsilence? We (or they as I left them about 2 months ago) were very influenced by MDB and Candlemass. The only other band I can think of would be Solstice - but good luck finding some of their stuff on the net. Other bands worth trying are Morgion or Mourning Beloveth.
There are two types of Doom metal really (actually there's hundreds but I'm keeping it simple). There's the really epic METAL stuff like Candlemass or MDB and then there's the Sabbath worshipping stuff like Trouble, The Obsessed, St Vitus, Cathedral so maybe you'll like that stuff.

Death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE will be releasing a box set containing three CDs and one DVD in November.
Included on the CDs will be CANNIBAL CORPSE's original demo that the band made before signing to Metal Blade Records in 1990, three new cover songs, the unreleased "Created To Kill" album (recorded during the "Vile" studio sessions) featuring Chris Barnes on lead vocals), and a "best of" collection to be picked out by Metal Blade head honcho Brian Slagel and the band.
The DVD will have the much-bootlegged Moscow concert originally recorded on May 25, 1993, the band's first show ever opening for DARK ANGEL, and their entire set at the Metal Blade Records 20th Anniversary Party excluding two songs which will go on Metal Blade's 20th Anniversary DVD. There will also be 10-15 minutes of behind-the-scenes material shot from when the band was recording "Eaten Back To Life" and "Butchered at Birth".
The box set will also include a poster, 2000 of which will be signed by the band, a comic book drawn by non other than Vincent Locke, a huge booklet that will contain many pics and a history of the band, and last but not least, a CANNIBAL CORPSE guitar pick. More information will be made available soon.

I recommend the following as good songs to start off with:

The Raven and the Rose
Sear me III
If you get into them then listen to "Thrash of Naked Limbs" which is my favourite song ever!

I did own their formulas album and Gateways, but sold them. There is just something that I don't like about the new direction of Morbid Angel. Yes I do agree with you that I need to buy more Morbid Angel albums. I have yet to by "Covenant" and "Domination". Yes I know that I sound crazy, but I don not own Covenant and I do know that it is a must have for death metal fans. I have only been a fan of death metal for about 4 months. When I go out I don't always buy death metal I also like bands like Slayer, Black Sabbath, ect. I still don't have cds from "Repulsion", "Arch Enemy", "Kataklysm", "Obituary", and many more.

This has been bugging me for a bit, but did Morbid Angel put out an album between Domination and Formulas? I know they're making the names of their albums alphabetical but did they do anything for the letter "E"?

Antipop: yes, they did. Entangled In Chaos, which is their live album. very very very EXCELLENT disc. great song choice, and great sound. if you can find it, nab it. youll probably never see it in a store again hah.

That never occurred to me!!!! I feel really stupid. :(
Entangled in Chaos is a good album but not particularly "live" but it's good to listen to anyway.
Iwannarock: I'd get "Blessed are the sick" before Covenant and domination. In my especially humble opinion it is one of the greatest death metal albums ever.
Doesn't seem to be that many shows here either. I'm off to see some cool doom bands next weekend but after that the next gig I want to see is Hate Eternal, Dying Fetus and Deeds of Flesh in September. Which is why I'm off to Wacken to see Slayer etc!

i'm just back from With Full Force. DAMN it was awesome.
Slayer,Sodom,Destruction from the 2nd row, SAINT VITUS and Debris Inc. were GODLIKE and while My Dying Bride played "Turn loose the swans" I almost had an musical orgasm :D
Amon Amarth & Napalm Death were headbanging-mania and Zyklon were pretty tight aswell. Type O Negative & Sepultura were nice, too and dancing madly at Die Apokalyptische Reiter was definelty an expierience
And I've seen my old heroes Overkill, who did really well.
Positive suprises: Madball (never thought I could like hardcore), Prong (GROOOOVE METAL), Samael (awesome) and
on the negative side: minstry and clawfinger were quite boring
i have seen nearly every band I wanted to see (a lot :D) except for, sadly, opeth and eisregen. But i was just too tired when they played.
a detailed review will follow eventually, but right now i need sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
btw. nice to have the avatars back

"Obscura" (the album) from Gorguts doesn't sound like any other band I have heard. That album is excellent, a must have. Pick it up.
Right now I'm listening to Theory In Practice.

Yeah, Obscura is really unique, unless you've heard Lethargy (sort of a Gorguts rip-off). Gorguts' earlier work is pretty typical death metal, in the vein of Suffocation.

I'll asume you got the CDs from Scrape then? Did you catch any shows while you were there? Vancouver has a great metal scene, but few venues to support it. There are still some good shows though. You probably missed Goatsblood, Kalibas, Zuckuss and Tard on friday. The same day as the cradle of filth/shadows fall show, but most of the metal heads went to see local heros Goatsblood.

Wow! Lots going on in here over the weekend. Eventful weekend for me too. I had an audition for a new bandcalled "The River" which well and I got in! So that's cool - it's a real releif to be playing with a band again. I will let you know when mp3's are available (website is being worked on as I type) but till then this is really slow, crushingly heavy doom - so slow it makes Unsilence sound like grindcore!
Some thread things to comment on:
Mardy: get Severed Survival or Mental Funeral. Severed Survival is my favourite but that's just because it was the one I heard first. Both are classics.
Azagthoth: You have too much money. And yes you're a legend! This thread will live on as your legacy! You ever going to send me that CD?
Terminal: Have you heard psychomancer? They're on Cursed Productions (your link reminded me!) and play excellent slow death metal that sounds like a doomy Autopsy. Great stuff!
Iwannarock: Looks like Roadrunner might be remembering the days when they actually released good music!! Listening to Life of Agony "River Runs Red" at the mo - great album, all the others were rubbish.
Anyone up for some trades again? Same rules: compilation tapes/minidiscs/cdrs max 2-3 songs each band? Any band or genres.

Hey I was wondering, would hardcore be classified as death metal? Although it is not as techinical and more punk based, the spirit remains the same.
Either way, there was a hardcore show at a local venue this week. Kick *** show. It was headlined by a band called Death Threat and Terror playing just before them. Very kick *** show. Lots of energy. The only thing was everyone was doing "so-cal" moshing. You know where everyone "dances" they were swinging their arms around hugley and doing jump kicks. Ahh, not really my style. I am more for the bodying bashing goodness. Ah well, the show rocked and you should check out those bands if you could. Rock on.

Are Behemoth any good? I heard one song from them and I thought that they sounded good. What mean though is their new album any good? In two weeks i'll probably get Repulsion's "Horrified" reissued with two disc from Relapse Records. Also i'm finally seeing the light. I'm going to get rid of my Mortician "Darkest Day of Horror" cd. Mortician are such a horrible band. Like xAzagthothz said I need more Morbid Angel in my collection.

Behemoth is decent. Their older stuff was more black metal, but the newer stuff is death. The only album I've got is Zos Kia Cultus and it's pretty good. I'd like actual cd's of their older stuff, but it's always to expensive on ebay.

The band has two monsterous vocalist Killjoy (Necrophagia, Viking Crown, The Ravenous) and Maniac (Mayhem). They have also got ex- Immortal bassist Iscariah I think was the name, and the band has a rummer that has worked with Killjoy and their guitarist/song writer is from the band Gorelord. Sorry I don't remember everyones name, but "Wurdulak" are an all-star band. I don't know if they are death or if they are balck metal. You decide:D .

Amon Amarth... Vintersorg... Naglfar!
I'd try to go if I could afford it... pity good metal like that never comes to Australia
Well, we did have Opeth in April :)

More good news!!! Roadrunner Records is going to release a best of Deicide, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Life of Agony, Malevolent Creation, and more. Also Roadrunner Records will re-issue Obituary's "Slowly We Rot" and "Cause of Death". Roadrunner Records will also re-issue Suffocation's "Effigy of the Forgotten" and "Pierced From Within". By now probably everyone on this thread has heard that Deicide are working hard in the studio, but this is even better. Glen Benton has given the title of the new album. It it titled "Scars of the Crucifix".

no I won't got to wacken, can't afford it right now. :(
ok thanks for reminding me, i'll try and write it right now.
Introduction
(skip this if you want, its mainly me getting to the festival and stuff)
On thursday I had a cool band practice (till 8pm) then packed my stuff (I was still searchinng for someparts of my tent at that time ^^) and, along with a friend, walked to my towns station.
There a bus shuttle picked us up at 2:00 in the night. The first thing after entering the bus was that the "tour manager" gave us some beer and when we climbed the stairs to the "upper deck" of the bus we were surrounded by drunk people and the smell of mary jane
About 7 hours later (sleepless hours for me, I just can't sleep on a bus :upset:) we arrived in paradise :D
We built up our tent without problems and then went onto the festival ground. It was still early in the morning and the first band was set to play at 1pm but I knew what would await us: the long lines on the ticket exchange point. (where you get a festival ribbon in exchange for your paper ticket) - I think we had to wait more than an hour there...
so after a bit of lying down it was on to the first day of heavy metal madness
Friday
I missed most of TOTENMOND due to the stupid security people (the only real organisation problem, sometimes it took quite a while to get from the camping ground onto the festival ground) but the last 2 songs were quite nice.
After that played german punk-rock band DRITTE WAHL. They did a great show but I've already heard them with a better sound (they a certainly a club band). T
hose interested in punkrock with a metal edge [not hardcore] and sophisticated (though german...) lyrics should check them out.
I didn't watch THE SPOOK because I was having lunch, but a friend told me they played a nice misfits meet glamrock style set. (they were the replacement for the murderdulls who cancelled)
NAPALM DEATH played after them and they were awesome. They were full of energy and played a good mix of old grindcore stuff and "newer" classics. The first band I was headbanging to and after the final dead kennedy cover" nazi punks **** off" my neck certainly felt ready for the upcomming bands :D
At first I didn't want to watch PRONG (only knew one song and didn't like that one too much) but I'm glad i stayed. A friend dragged me to the front rows and it certainly was an experience. They played a kind of groove metal/rock crossover. It was almost danceable and fun.
the next band on the list was SUBWAY TO SALLy . A german folk metal group that has turned, with their latest album, into a Rammstein clone. I heard they were a great live band before (during the major part for their career) but well i just don't like their newer material much and they played 75% stuff from the new album. I had wished for more old songs, but they were a very energetic band nonetheless, featuring live (!) synth bass, a 3 necked guitar and a good-looking female violin player.
My friend saw HATEBREED but I decided to inhibit some alcohol at that time. They did OK according to him. I just don't like their sound :D
SIX FEET UNDER were funny, though Chris Barnes vocals sounded very fake live. You could clearly hear that much of the growls were processed. But the mood was great, he played a new song and made an anti war speech (the song seems to be called "america, the brutal" and features anti-war lyrics). He also sung a short song in german. (I don't know wether it was a translation or a new song, the only part I understood was "blutbad" meaning bloodbath)
J.B.O. played their comedy metal set, though it was almost identical to the one they played at wacken last year => i got bored
Since i'm not to keen on SOULFLY i decided to go back to the tent for a few minutes of relaxing. Though everyone told me they did a good show with many covers (sepultura and nirvana). I still don't think I missed much ^^
The break was really needed because right after soulfly (headliner on the main stage) the Knüppelnacht ("thrashnight" <- literal translation, nothing to do with thrash metal though, knüppelmetal is sometimes used as a term for extreme metal here) started on the tent stage. (the only time i was at the tent stage was at night, because beforee midnight only punk/hardcore bands were playing and the mainstage had real metal :D)
ENTHRONED were great, well made black metal from beligum.
and now to the absolute highlight of the day, if not the whole festival: AMON AMARTH
killer show, I was headbanging during the whole gig and so were the musicians on stage (rotor banging even during the most difficult parts). The performance was tight but full of energy and just flawless. Amon Amarth really showed the world that right now they are the best (viking-) death metal band around.
ZYKLON were very good, but since I wasn't too familiar with their songs and I was getting tired (remember => no sleep since thursday morning) I listend to most of it sitting around and decided to go to get some sleep after their set.
I missed Macabre (seen 'em at Wacken => funny but nothing special, not a good live band imo), 1349 and Eisregen.
Some pals who have seen 1349 and Eisregen were disappointed by eisregens live performance but found 1349 quite interesting. It's a project by satyricons Frost, if I remember correctly, and according to my friend he sat down behind his kit, started playing during the soundcheck and without any breaks continued to play double bass through the soundcheck and into the set. He didn't even pause between some songs! Insane!
the reviews of Saturday and Sunday will follow later.
ah and yes tell me wether the style is ok or if should post less "personal" stuff

Yeah I'm on UM but's really rubbish. It's been ruined by some tit called profanity (after the german DM band) and all is goes on about is how german dm is best (can anyone name more than 5 german dm bands?) and how dm is about nihilism. And he's from Manchester.
Went to a decent doom gig last night: CAMBIAN DAWN, DESPOND, UNTIL DEATH OVERTAKES ME, INDINISENCE. Was pretty cool apart from I was knackered and driving so only coke for me.
Indinisince were straight slow death metal. Like Autopsy. Good stuff
UDOM were funeral doom - nothing over 50 bpm! very heavy but ultimately not really hitting the mark. Give me SUNN 0))))
Despond were doom /death like Morgion with MDB influences. Some excellent guitar work - the guitarist had a beautiful tone.
Cambian Dawn were rockin' traditional doom complete with a St Vitus cover (I Bleed Black if anyone knows Vitus). They played a great set but had some moments that verged on stoner which ain't my thing. But overall a good night.
Not long till Wacken guys!! Woohooo!!

A dude I know on Fangoria that calls himself Mark e-mailed your friend that runs the website and told me that he is awaiting an e-mail from him right now. His death metal band is called Trioxin. He says that they are a horror related metal band......a little hard to pin down but more death metal than anything else. elements of hardcore, noise, and sludge are present. It's not a total blast beat fest, but it's not slow the whole time. no clean vocals!!! fans of Morbid Angel, Internal Bleeding, Slayer, Soilent Green, Coalesce, Neurosis, Dying Fetus, Hypocrisy, Black Sabbath, Deicide, Zao, and Carcass should check them out. He also told me that they have an album out called "The Contingency Plan". He said that Amazon.com will soon start selling it. I sent him a PM and asked him if it will be sold at any of the F.Y.E. stores and places like that, but I haven't recieved a message yet. I don't have anything against those bands, but I would like to see if there are any fans of this band. They were one of grindcore's first bands so I guess that you could say that they helped invent a genre along with Napalm Death. They have put out only one album, but they have influenced everyone from Napalm Death to Carcass. If you don't own their album "Horrified" then your death metal collection is not complete. I usually download my stuff. I'd honestly prefer to buy, but as I am continually skint I don't have a choice. if anything I'd buy from Amazon, Supernal and Alice Records. still buggered expensive, though. :(

Make a fùcking note of this
bloodsoaked (www.bloodsoaked.net)
willowtip (www.willowtip.com)
The End (www.theendrecords.com)
Dark Symphonies (www.darksymphonies.com)
Black Metal Distro (www.blackmetal.com)
Razorback (www.razorbackrecords.com)
Barbarian Wrath (http://www.thebasar.org/index2.html)
Metal Disc (www.metaldisc.com) kinda expensive, but huge selection
Walls of Fire (http://www.wofshop.com) Good for all those based outside north america, or for hard to find stuff.
Lumberjack distro (www.lumberjack-online.com) Good for grind and crust.
If there's a cd you want that you can't find from there, let me know and I can probably find it somewhere.

What movie do you think would be very fitting to plug some death/black metal on to; I mean like lots of DM would fit into the soundtrack of "Evil Dead" etc.
And what game do you play on the pc when you throw some extreme metal on?

What's you other favourite genre apart from DM? Im really into prog and classic metal atm (eg maiden).
What was your last DM purchase btw? Mine was Cryptopsys None So Live \m/.
Do you need to ask? My favourite genre bar none is doom.
Last purchase was Autopsy "Severed Survival" on picture disc because having it on two fomats isn't enough! I need three!

Sepultura is my favorite "heavy" band. Plus anything that has respectable guitar playing at ultra high speeds and plenty of distortion.

Hell, I don't want to hog everything - you feel free and flame any post whores.
So... which of these upcoming reunions are you most excited about:
Celtic Frost
Candlemass (ps this is the correct answer)
Dissection
Heathen
Nuclear Assault
Dark Angel
Guns N Roses (this ones a trick question - Chinese Democracy will NEVER be released!)

What about Carcass, just because they haven't actually booked a re-union tour doesn't mean it wont happen :upset:

Well have they ever spoken of getting back together?

No apart from to say "It's not going to happen". There's an interview at www.earache.com with both Jeff and Ken. Ken is getting better which is a relief but he's long way off from blasting. Also Bill just isn't into death or grind anymore. Think about how carcass were heading - even if they did reform it wouldn't be Symphonies of Sickness.

I know but I still want it to happen :upset: *cries*
