Also as Terminal Spirit , for once, has forgotten to mention them - you should also try Lyakthea Aflame.

I got some At The Gates...not really my style. If any of you have AIM and are into sharing files, my name is Alex2778. It's a lot easier to get stuff from people on there than on WinMX. I'm eager to hear all the stuff you guys suggest, but it's hard to get downloads on there. Anyway, thanks for the help. Continuing my quest to find what importnace this Death Metal genre can have for me.

I don't know - maybe he'll have an attack of good taste. ;) They have a lot more melody than Cryptopsy though. And no I haven't got it yet!!!! They say two weeks! I can't last two weeks!!! I need it now!!!!

btw Do you want another minidisc? I'm moving in just over a week and won't have my full collection after that for a few months so best get it done now. My record deck works now as well so time for some late 80's early 90's DM!

Who would you travel across the country just to see for one show at a festival? Asuming it's possible, so not At the Gates

Cannibal Corpse?

I would travel far and wide to see Gorguts. Those sons o' bitches are never gonna play again though! They have this habit of being the world's slowest band... and now with the whole drummer thing, they'll never get back into commission. :(

No! But I can recommend plenty of Sabbat (UK)!!

As for bands I'd travel a long way to see: well it wouldn't be bands that regularly tour in this area eg Morbid Angel , Nile, Immolation although I did travel to Belfast to see Nile a few years back. So I'd say bands like Origin, Kataklysm, Aeturnus, Exhumed, Inner War,

Hey! There is this awesome black/death metal band called Vital Remains they have been around ten years or so and their new album is coming out soon. Probably between March 25 and mid or late April it should be out. They are a good band, but the only problem is that they have had a different vocalist on every album . You can get their albums at www.metaldisc.com and probably the F.Y.E. stores. I just wanted to bring them up to guys, because their newest album that I said should come out any time now is because the vocalist is in one of death metals legendary bands. The new album is called "Dechristianize" and the vocalist on the whole album is bassist/vocalist Glen Benton of the band "Deicide". I'm going to get a copy just as soon as I find out when it's out!

I do. I own both of the new Morbid Angel's cds and the are good. The only thing that it took me a while to adjust to in the new Morbid Angel is the new vocalist. His style is a bit deeper than the original vocalist, but he is till good. Another thing that I don't like much about the new Morbid Angel is that they sometime's seem like they're playing slower than they use to and sometimes their riffs are a bit boring until a great solo played by Trey Azagoth comes along. The best new Morbid Angel cd to get is "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh". That album is amazing! In this album Morbid Angel do alot of different things that they have never really tried to do before. For example in one of the first few songs Pete Sandoval's drumming sounds like "Cannibal Corpse". Some songs on this album are instrumental and they sound great! Formulas Fatal To The Flesh is a mix of Black/Death Metal. You may not like this album if you are a hardcore death metal fan, but if you go into it with an open mind then you may just dig this Death Metal classic. I just recently got the new Morbid Angel's newest album "Gateways To Annihilation" which has "Hate Eternal" guitarist Erik Rutan on guitar as well as Trey Azagoth. Since have bought so many cds lately I haven't had the time to finish it. I hope that helps.

New album what? xAzagthothx said anything on the new Morbid Angel. He meant the new Morbid Angel line up. The "NEW" line up have two albums out "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" and "Gateways To Annihilation". I wasn't talking about a new album. However Earache Records did just release the Morbid Angel remasters. "Altars of Madness" and "Blessed are the Sick" are out remastered now.

Hey guys! I've got some really big news so I hope your ready.

The old news: Deicide's contract with Roadrunner has ended, because all they got was a 7 album deal and the band and the label promised that they wouldn't renew contracts so there last album with Roadrunner was "In Torment In Hell".

The big news: Deicide have signed with Earache Records and are now working on a new album.

The last of the big news: Mortician's final cd on Relapse Records is coming out in April. It's called "Darkest Day of Horror" which is the tag line for the movie "Day of the Dead" directed by George A. Romero the director of "Creepshow", "Night of the Living Dead", "Dawn of the Dead", and many more. You can get a special tour edition at their shows and also another Mortician cd is out, but i'm not sure if it is out in the U.S. yet, but it is called "Final Bloodbath Session" it contains 27 of Mortician's classic's. I think they are remastered and also this cd has a live drummer in every track I think. Vocalist/Bassist of Mortician Will said that Mortician wanted to leave relapse records, because they want to do everything by themselves.

I hope that you enjoyed that news. If you want more information on what's going on with Mortician then go to www.mortician.net

Nile - not too keen. Death metal which is just all out blastbeats and growls doesn't do it for me.

Carcass - Excellent album. My first ever DM album, which I sold because A) twas scratched to **** and B) I need the money. I have it on mp3 now anyway.

press : Connect -> Public -> choose a hub from the list.

If you have a fast connection then search for hubs that only allow 10Mbit connections and that have more than 300 users and preferably a sharelimit of minimum 10Gb. If not the just connect to a hub that has lots of users.

The hubs I use for movies are restricted to BBB and Sunet users so you probably can't use thoose but try this one : maximum10mbit.dyndns.org If you can get into it then let me know for I hang there alot.

Carcass - Pedigree Butchery, it has a strong and good message about veganism + the usual gore and brilliance.

Cryptopsy-Phobophile:

"In the kitchen
With a screaming triple amputee...
Its completion depends solely
On my needs...
Said amputee's stumps
Are my way of saying... "Thank you
Just for being you."
Its fear tastes better than its limbs.

Terror of morality
I draw from the slowly dying ****ed
Monsters live behind my eyes;
I let them out and people die.
And all the grave worms
That come for their piece of meat?
I give them dead things..
The wretched living are mine alone

Fright mounts with the body count
To which anthropomancy predicts a decline
In all of God's creation,
Can there be a lifestyle that's better than this?

I mark my territory
With their blood and excritement
And adipocere...
I can find my way in the dark;
My fulfilment is habitually necromanic
And anal abusive..
Seen through the eyes of a mortician

They've "caught" me, as they call it;
My teeth and my semen have betrayed me..
Nevermore!
Tests to gauge my rationale,
The likes of which these feeble minds have
Never seen.

Rorschach blotters,
My responses to which inspire fear...
From my lizard side,
The amoral alien speaks;
"These aren't butterflies,
I see a face I'd like to burn."

Obfuscation
Of the authorities with lies,
And my natur
Alability to charm and be me,
Or whoever they want;
I've known all minds by divine right."

Crown of Horns by Cryptopsy

Capricornus Rex in tenebris
I long to feel the dark caress
Of your cloven hooves;
I seek the loving warmth of your anus
As I place my worshipful
Lips about your teats.

We hate, and so we gather
By the light of the moon;
The art of veneficium...
This we learned from you...
To make them grieve in their lord,
Their redeemer in flames
Fanned by the scorn of the children
Who now curse his name.

Sire of sin,
You embody me
Undivine...
To you we congregate;
None so vile,
Your magnificent
Crown of horns
Inspires deeds maleficent.

Destroy the parasite,
Destroy Jesus Christ.

They'll crawl in their perdition,
The righteous will be lost
Where gutted angels lie ****ed...
Beneath the feunral cross;
We'll dig them a mass grave soon,
And bring to their knees
Those who would have rescinded
The laws of disease.

"The children have turned",
The cherubs wail,
As anticross triumphs
Where the cross has failed.

Hell-spawned majesty, we eagerly
Await the advent of the
Next millennium
When you will return with a swarm from
Beyond to claim your carnal
Lost dominion.

Rapid Desecration by Thorazine

Be the witness of the birth
the end of time
Inner thoughts perception of
the end of life
Master of our creation turn
the sands of time
Legions of our deception
bring forth wars of lies

Declaration
Hunger for the wars we’re bringing
Masters will be also feeding
Desecration
Mother earth inside she’s bleeding
from the pain that we are seeding
Implantation
Suffer the life we’re leading
With the toxins so insulating
Devastation
Pay for wars that are proceeding
Suffer from our own deceiving

Lethal torment forcing nature
To bring forth her redemption
Power overwhelming
Forces bringing slaughter
Torture for the breeders of
her condition

Feed the masses supremacy
Kill the masses her once proud breed
Slay the takers of life supreme
Feel our natures insanity
Genocide will now make her free
Hell fires burn the scorn deity

Declaration
Hunger for the wars we’re bringing
Masters will be also feeding
Desecration

Kreator - Violent Revolution

Violent Revolution

Society failed to tolerate me
And I have failed to tolerate society
Still I can’t find what you adore
Inside I hear the echoes of an inner war
Nothing can take the horror from me
Your sick world the loss of all morality
My hate has grown as strong as my confusion
My only hope my only solution
is a Violent Revolution

Violent Revolution, Violent Revolution
Reason for the people to destroy

I do not need a cause for my rage
I just despise the nature of the human race
When all I see is repulsion and hate
Violence becomes my only friend, my saving grace
When love is lost beyond your control
A pale shadow of lust can not enlight your soul
So keep your ice cold bitter illusions
I don’t need your empty world my only solution
is a Violent Revolution

Violent Revolution, Violent Revolution
Reason for the people to destroy

Beauty is no more it’s all gone
And utopia will not come
Trust I can not feel, only pain
And my burning mind has gone insane

Kreator - Nonconformist

Nonconformist
What is yours, it ain't mine
Become a capitalist and follow blind
Staring into empty eyes
I can't see no more truth behind those lies

I don't believe
I don't agree
I'm the one you fear forever...

Nonconformist

Count the days that pass you by
Minds erased, the individual dies
Conform into society
And you become your own worst enemy

I don't believe
I don't agree
I'm the one you fear forever...

Nonconformist

They'll burn your dreams
Pollute your mind
And you don't even see it
Do you want to see it?

They'll take away
All you have
And you don't even see it
Do you want to see it?

Nonconformist

The Haunted - Forensick
At night I listen to the sound of the animals, sleep has become a rare commodity it seems. I understand now that there are no limits to what you are capable of. You don’t even see it yourselves, the news anchor on the TV set talks in a neutral voice about rape, murder and this weeks weather without change of tone-It seems that nothing matters as we close in on the turn of the millenium, violence and commercial breaks has become the opium that used to religion. **** you, mankind. You’re so ugly, so vain. The language of brutality is all you seem to understand, bloodlust as long as it’s someone elses blood. To ****, suck, eat and ****. Breeding has turned into a pastime, death as recreation…You are no better than a pack of hyenas, the sight and smell of someone elses pain and misery makes you feel good, ensuring one more day in safety, decimating the odds that you or someone you love is going to get hurt. Well don’t fool yourself, you’re not safe, not in this world. All you are is collateral damage, presumptive headlines, expendable meat for the media hounds, statistics and forensic reports for some brainless **** to drool over on the internet. You are royally ****ed.

Last…

A raped woman is a whore, and when the newsman explains how the rapist in his frustration over his limp dick ****ed her with a carpentersknife you wince in your safe little cubicles, and self-righteously pass judgement. She deserved it, that just shows how it goes, and it never would’ve happened if she had listened to her parents. I say **** you. If I had the bomb I’d let it rip. You are culprit and prey in the same sick being. Parents and politicians rave over our attempts to shut it all out, as if the drugs and sex are the problems. In this world it’s only natural to seek out oblivion, it’s the only way we can survive, once we see the horror…One last thing, never expect me to try being a part of your heap of ****. Id rather stay out here in the cold for the rest of my ****ing life than be a part of your sick, ****ing society.
^^^ Very cool song, I think it would be great to open a movie with, sounds like something out of the book "survivor", Which I suggest that everyone here read

Tell me this guys, who started death metal?

xAzagthothx

id say Possessed. i mean, they coined the phrase death metal. after that...hmm.... Morbid Angel probably. i mean, theyre the earliest i can think of who blast beated.

Terminal Spirit
04-09-2003, 10:55 PM
Repulsion also

Jondur
04-10-2003, 02:06 AM
It's between Possessed who coined the phrase and Death in their earlier guise as Mantas. To me Possessed always sounded more thrashy but Death were always death metal.

Repulsion were more grind but you can't deny the influence of grind on DM - bands like Napalm Death and Terrorizer, DRI, S.O.D etc really brought the speed into it. And as Azagthoth pointed out it was Pete Sandoval coming over from Terrorizer to MA that introduced blastbeats to DM.

So there you have it. In my (not at all) humble opinion: feeding on the bones of masters such as Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Sodom, Kreator, Testament etc - Possessed added truly horrific vocals to their thrash metal but I say it was "Scream Bloody Gore" that was the first truly DEATH metal album. Even if you played it now to someone who'd never heard it they would immediately say "That's Death Metal"

Has anyone gotten Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness" or "Blessed are the Sick" remastered albums yet? I was going to buy "Altars of Madness" remastered yesturday, but I didn't have the enough money on me. So I got Nile's "Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka" (great album).

I've also got something to tell the Cannibal Corspe fans. They are currently working on a new studio album the follow up to last years "Gore Obsessed". The new album should be out in early 2004.

i own both of them. had them since December. theyre very cool cds. The videos are ****ed up though, they need quicktime, and the Altars video doesnt have sound, and the Blessed video doesnt work, but i would definately buy them for the rare vintage photos and the cool *** liner notes by Trey.

Erm..... what is the best album by carcass? I bought Pure putrification (or something like that) but it was grindcore which i dont like so i exchanged it for some meshuggah, but i found that repetitive so i bought hate crew deathroll by CoB.

Jerry - If you're not into the grindcore stuff ( at the moment you'll get to like the first two albums I promise) then you're best off with getting Heartwork, then Necrotism:Descanting the Insalubrious, then Symphonies of Sickness.

Reek of Putrefaction is only for lovers of rawness!

Whereabouts in Lancashire are you from? I used to live near Oldham but am now down south (BOO!!! - It sucks down here trying to find a band!)

I live near blackpool about 20 mins away in a small place called lytham.
With that carcass album it wasnt just the music that put me off but also the poor production quality and and the audibility of the instruments. I do have some songs on mp3 like heartwork and dead star which i do like.
Do you go to uni down south? Im in a pretty cool band who starting to play some cool club gigs at the moment.

"We're goin down blackpool alright!" Sorry bit o Macc lads there.
Nah - I've moved down to Kent for a job. Uni was a long time ago! (feeling old!)

If you can get past the production then Reek... is an excellent album.

Malevolent Creation are Florida style death metal! Most well known song is "Multiple Stab Wounds". They're ok - not the best but good for a listen.

Thryfing are kind of avant garde black metal - I've not heard huge amounts though.

Man.. CoB are sweet, the band that got me into both death metal and Black metal at the same time :thumb: Hate Crew Deathroll is a pretty good album, much less serious than the last few; more aggressive and more guitar-influenced but it sounds like the band is really having fun. I didn't like a few songs (Needled 24/7, Triple Corpse Hammerblow) but some are absolute classics! (Angels Don't Kill, Lil' Bloodred Ridin'hood, Hate Crew Deathroll) I hope I get to see them sometime, they don't seem to like to come to the U.S. Also I heard rumors that this may be their last studio album! Any info on that?

There are quite a few decent record stores in Berlin.

If I remember correctly there is a good one a few streets away from the Hard Rock Cafe and another decent one right at the end of the Ku'Damm (Kurfürstendamm - main shopping street in Berlin).

As for prices, well I used to think CD's were expensive in Germany, but then I went to France and England and saw their prices. Holy cow!

and don't get me started about buying alcohol in scotland...the prices at normal stores were so ****in high:eek:

Are you talking about a Death Metal Festival , hence the Deathfest? Opposed to a tour. Maryland Death Fest is the biggest right now. Maryland DeathFest Site (http://www.supremebrutality.com/fest/) I think there's also an Ohio Deathfest, which Brian Baxter of Regurgitation runs, this year.

No good fest's or even tours come anywhere near me. The closest that things like that usually come are Detroit or Chicago which are both still 3 hours away. All depends on what your definition of Heaviness is. I've heard lots of noisegrind that blows away all Death metal in terms of heaviness, due to the wall of sound it pushes at you, but I don't that is what you were looking for. Some of the most heavy:

Visceral Bleeding
Cinerary
Caligorge
Mexigorge
Anaal Nathakh
Internal Suffering
Discordance Axis
Machetazo
Terrorizer

At least in stuff that normal people have heard off/could get their hands on. I leave out bands like Gut, Serrandos Codos, Iscaarum, Creamface, Microphallus, because you'd never get the chance to hear them.

Visceral Bleeding- State of Putrefaction, Remnants of Deprivation
Cinerary- Recapitated
Disgorge(cal)- Carnally Decimated, Cognative Lust of Mutilation
Disgorge(mex)- Rancid Bowel Sarcoma, Lymphatic Orgy in Ulcerated Incubation
Anaal Nathrakh- Pandemonic Hyperblast
Internal Suffering- Chaos Matrix, Unmercyful Extermination, Destroyer Entity
Discordance Axis- The Necropolitan, Jigsaw
Machetazo- Banquete Funerario, La Flema
Terrorizer- Dead Shall Rise
Aborted- To Roast and Grind, The Saw and the Carnage Done, Sanguine Verses of Extirpation

Jondur

Mortician are probably up there in terms of the "wall of sound". I don't rate them personally in fact I think they have little or no musical value.

Heaviness is really not that an important factor when you're talking about death metal. Hell, they're all heavy that's the whole point. Some sludge bands (Eyehategod, Crowbar, Iron Monkey) could have a "heavier" sound, bands like Esoteric, Burning Witch and Skepticism are all heavy but they're not at all death metal.

In fact I hate the "heavy" question. Once we're talking about proper extreme metal (not diet death metal) then it's all heavy so we should be talking about quality.

p.s. looking at terminal's list - if any of you don't own Terrorizer's "World Downfall" then you've missed a classic. In fact grind is not talked about much on here so how about listing some of your faves? Here's some of mine:

Terrorizer "World Downfall" - this really is an amazing record and a huge influence on the death metal scene as well
Repulsion "Horrified"
Extreme Noise Terror "Retrobution"
Brutal Truth "Need to Control" "Extreme Conditions demand Extreme Response"
Napalm Death "Scum"

Samael are (or were - the last album was nothing special) an excellent band. Worship Him and Blood Ritual are really primitive black metal. Ceremony of the opposites is a classic mix of black and dark metal. Passage is a bit odd to describe - possibly one of the only records with a drum amchine that I can actually stand!

But throughout all their records they always had an ear for a great riff and a catchy vocal pattern.

Indeed Vital Remains is a great band. Forever Underground is my current favorite of theirs, but I've yet to hear the new one, Dechristianize. I am not too pleased with Glen Benton being on Vocals, but all the music was already written, before Glen came in, so hopefully it turned out all right.
