Are these for free, plus I dont really want to give out my personal details to a stranger on the internet.
Other than that I'm intereseted in a Tape :)
Jondur
02-19-2003, 06:09 AM
Read my other post! All you have to do is - email me your address + some likes /dislikes and then I'll send you a tape. It is free although the trading part comes in when you send me a tape in return!! Email me and we can discuss.

I couldn't find your other post :upset:
EDIT: Here is my music folder http://members.lycos.co.uk/mxfans/music folder.jpg I doubt there is anything there that you would like but if there is I still wouldn't mind trading a tape.
If we did I could send you a CD if that would be more convinient.

Here it is again!! jonathon_gibbs@hotmail.com
I don't want to tape full albums - just compilations. email youraddress then I'll send you a tape full of cool tracks - then you do the same for me - tape or CD is fine.
xAzagthothx

hey Jondur: ive got a really good idea. to expand on your tape trading idea, we should make a compilation of our own bands, like true original tape trading; to promote metal's burgeoning underground.

No where do the rules state that all bands on the tape/cd/whatever have to be signed. If you've got songs of your band (which I know at least you do) go ahead and put it on the tape.

By the way I got None So Vile today, Flo Mouriner is amazing...

I think it is a good idea Azagthoth - I don't know how many bands with recorded material we've got on here but "The official MX death heads compilation" would kick arse! Check the releases page of www.unsilence.co.uk for two Unsilence mp3's
Terminal - Are you using some wacky compression on your minidisc - I only got 20 odd songs on the disc I sent you! Maybe my recorders crap?!
Legions: I hear ya! Check yours!

ok people lets get it together.
Jondur: ive been talking with a friend of mine who has connections for professional packaging/layout/artwork/cd pressing, etc. and then i have friends who can hook us up with Comatose distro....
so anyone with a band....email me 2 tracks or email me a link where i can get 2 tracks to download. professional studio quality preferred, but whatever you can get will go on these discs.

80 minute discs with 4X compression. The sound quality is still at 128, so why not?
Azagthoth, I could get something do you within a couple months, probably. How long you willing to wait?

waiting isnt much of a concern. i would just like to get everything in order and finalized.

02-21-2003, 06:07 AM
Macabre are! They're a great death metal band and you really should see them live. Most amusing.
Terminal: I only used 2X compression on yours - I will know better next time!
Azagthoth - Yeah you can count Unsilence in. If you want to do it properly I can put you in touch with hundreds of distros but it might be worth doing just a CD-R version first for MX-ers just to guage reactions and quality. Start a new thread to ask for submissions as there are some who don't come on this thread who have decent bands - Android has a black metal band, Damo from drums and percussion has a kick a$$ prog metal band. Otherwise I don't think there's enough people in this thread with a band.

What are some bands similar to Pig Destroyer?
Zappa
02-21-2003, 04:28 PM
I was talking to a guy on AIM, and we started arguing about there being good Death and Black metal (I was trying to get him to listen to Dissection and Cynic). I was also talking to him about hte value of jazz fusion. Here are some quotes I thought you'd think were lame:
I don't have many metal CDs. Dream Theater's latest CD is brilliant.
I don't care at all for the cookie monster vocals.
Most of what I listen to is what I'd label progressive rock. Rush, UK, Yes
I used to listen to a lot of Holdsworth and Al Di Meola, but I don't have too many "fusion" records
How do I teach this guy a lesson?

Well you're not going to find many grindcore bands as good as Pig Destroyer... but for a relation to the band, you could try Scott Hull's other baby "Agoraphobic Nosebleed". They have a drum machine instead of a drummer though... well, Brian Harvey is a machine, but you know what I mean.

Those quotes are from an interview. The situation was created by me, just for a little laugh. I was reading the interview, and I started to think that if he was a member on MX, Coypu would likely flame him. So I set it up to give Coypu the opportunity bash one of his idols. All in good fun.

My god, your arrogance knows no limits. You're calling a professional musician ignorant in the ways of death metal. That's ridiculous. Do you honestly think he's never heard it? Even crazier, you think he's never heard CYNIC? He played with 2 members of that band for christ's sake.
coypu
02-21-2003, 08:19 PM
Actually, the drummer in spiral architect recomended Cynic to Ron and he said he would check them out so at that time he hadn't heard Cynic. He hadn't hear Atheist either eventhough he had had heard that they all where top notch musicans so as it seems Ron haven't heard that much.
Corporal Compendia
02-21-2003, 10:12 PM
I'm sure Ron would respect the musicians in some death metal bands... but that doesn't mean he has to like them. Music that is beyond impossible to play is no reason to like a band... however, good song writing is.

Soulfly aren't Death Metal
Try these bands:
Suffocation
Immolation
Amon Armarth
Carcass
Atheist
Maveryck
02-22-2003, 05:14 PM
And for some more accessible, melodic stuff, definitely check out In Flames.
And Toozey, don't put Suffocation and Immolation next to each other. They look like Sum 41 lyrics on speed :p

Hatesphere. They're faster and more aggressive than your average melodic death band, but they blow the **** out of a lot of the bands you mentioned... oh, and by the way, Soilwork is the closest relation I can put to Hatesphere... Hatesphere is just heavier than Soilwork.
Here about Quo Vadis? They're going to suck *** now... Arie quit the band. I really can't imagine them without him.

Her's a list of death metal bands that I listen to:
Six Feet Under
Vader
Life in a Burn Clinic
Morbid Angel
Cradle of Filth is cool but that is black metal.
I also hate tribal death metal:
specifically Sepultura
Oh yeah, I hate cannibal corpse!!

obviously you haven't heard much CC, some of it can be as good as Carcass, Bob and Jack are excellent guitarists, Alex Webster is an awesome bass player, and the drummer is nuts. Corpsegrinder is nowhere as good as Barnes, but he's still very good.

even worse than Six Feet Under.

So Mr Symphony - you in a band? Other styles you're into? Are you man enough to like doom? Good gigs you've seen recently, how long you've been into metal... that sort of thing.
 I'm not in a band, i'm in a orchestra though. I'm not really into doom metal, but I haven't check out many doom bands anyway. I've been into metal for about 9 or 10 years and here are some of my favorite styles:
Death (both melo and brutal)
Prog
Thrash
a little bit of power
that should do :D unfortunately I haven't been in good gigs recently, but of course i'm looking forward to some tours that are coming soon.

Good Man. I used to be in an orchestra. Played the violin for 18 years but I've kind of let it slide now. My dad's a professional violinist and plays in the Halle orchestra which is the oldest symphony orchestra in Britain (although his career high point was playing on my band's last MCD!!!) What do you play?
Anyway - welcome and all that.

Violin for 18 years and your dad is a violinist? **** that's good:D i'm a piano player/keyboardist, singer and guitarrist. The orchestra most of the time plays latin stuff and some classical songs throwed in, i'm planning to leave in one year though (since i'm going to a conservatory and work a hell lot on guitar)

I still say they're black metal, just not very representitive of the genre. They're old stuff is almost death metal. The last few years and albums, they've changed alot. They're more on the goth/shock rock edge of black metal. Their older stuff was decent but everything since "Crade to Enslave" and beyond hasn't been very good.

After all the death/black/grindcore metal i have downloaded because of this forum i think the only band i have liked is cradle of filth. They are like the band for people who dont like real black/death/grindcore metal. Im just glad i tried out the stuff to see what it is like. Cradle really is just a thrash metal band with keyboards and dani's weird voice IMO.

well there are mixed opinions on it, so I'll give you my opinion on my favourites:
Violent Revolution - their newest release. It awesome, good production, creative riffs and good vocals.
Society failed to tolerate me
And I have failed to tolerate society
Still I can’t find what you adore
Inside I hear the echoes of an inner war
Nothing can take the horror from me
Your sick world the loss of all morality
My hate has grown as strong as my confusion
My only hope my only solution
is a Violent Revolution
Violent Revolution, Violent Revolution
Reason for the people to destroy
The next record to mention would be the all-time classic
Pleasure To Kill from 1986
It is a very raw sounding album, and features some of Kreator's most classic songs: Flag Of Hate, Riot of Violence, Pleasure to Kill
Hi speed thrashing! :D
Endorama and Outcastare probably the most disputed Kreator records. Wth these to albums (released 1997 and 1999) Kreator's music changed a lot. Instead of just fast, furiuous riffage, the songs became slower and more complex.
They even had some doomy elements there.
Nowadays Kreator, because of lots of mail by old fans, returned to their "old" thrash metal style and their last effort Violent Revolution is awesome, but I still think that songs like Endorama, Phobia and Black Sunrise are great songs.
other good albums are Extreme Agressions and Coma Of Souls
Edit: If you don't know them you could also check out Sodom and Destruction. Kreator, Destruction and Sodom were in the 80's the infernal triad of german thrash metal :D Destruction are great, though I don't like Sodom too much. It's solid thrash metal but apart from a few songs (The Saw Is The Law, Bombenhagel,Agent Orange) nothing really special.

Funny you should say that.....i heard them for the first time about a week ago! It was leaning to much towards death for me, vocal wise (i know its not like Immolation or anything! but im more of a classic rock fan) but the riffage and drumming was great. If they ever come around id go see them, but it may take me a little while toget the singer down.

Yeah that solo at the end is some Yngwie Malmsteen, I got bored.

I just saw Lamb of God tonight. I haven't heard to much from them before. The older songs they played were good but the two they played from the new are crazy, I was just wondering peoples opinions on them. A good live show. The singer has the biggest mole I've ever seen on his back. And the hair growing out of it is really long. It was amusing to see when I first saw it...
The band that played before them was a joke...they weren't any good so to get people to like them, the singer took all his clothes off and crowd surfed:eek:

I'll starrrrt.
Death Metal MUST owns!

Agree? Disagree?
If you feel an album someone posts is not a must own, let us know why. After you agree or disagree, name an album off.

A great album, their use of keybords may not be amazing but still a great band. Maybe abit to guitardriven though, with better drumming and bass they could had become Cynic class.

Spiritual Beggars are sort of groovy 70's stoner, pyschedelic rock if that's any help. There is some DM association as they are the band of Michael Amott of Carnage/Carcass/ Arch Enemy fame.

My guitar teacher (who is very metal oriented) burned me the Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropy CD by Dimmu Borgir and now I love them. They are black metal I think...Anyways Cannibal Corpse is cool, so is Lamb of God. I haven't really gotten that far into it though, but thanks for everyone posting their favorites so I can check some of those out.
P.S. Anyone that is interested in Metal and plays guitar should get a metal oriented guitar teacher because I just started getting weekly lessons like four months ago and I am so much better than I would have ever imagined myself being. :D

Dimmu's older stuff is ok. They're like Cradle of Filth. Not very representitive of the genre. Go back a couple of pages and there is a black metal thread with a lot of very good suggestions.

Zappa: Which death album have you heard? This makes a huge difference because the first album was pure, rotten, fetid zombified death metal whereas the last one was a widdly prog fest!
I would suggest you try Acid Death who have been described as the Dream Theater of death metal. Also Eucharist are an excellent band. If you search hard enough you might be lucky enough to find a Seer's Tear song and they are one of the best bands ever (but not really DM).
Also as Terminal Spirit , for once, has forgotten to mention them - you should also try Lyakthea Aflame.

It varies, lots use 1/2 Step, 1+1/2 Step, B, B Flat, A.
I think Meshuggah use G or something now though I'm not sure but they definately use 8 Strings.
