That wouldn't be cheating - it would be a bit pointless though as the kick drum beat that coincided with the snare would be lost so you might as well not bother. Unless you meant 32nd notes ala Nile etc.

Azagthoth - I've tried dling your song several times but it just isn't working for me. I think my pc has something against your band! I did try though!

Well, first off, layer it. Record it one instrument at a time. Then download Cool Edit Pro (http://www.syntrillium.com/download/) and put it back together in there. That way you can control the level of each instrument, so nothing is blasting over top of everything else. Secondly, get better mics. Musicians Friend (www.musiciansfriend.com) has some Oktavas on for cheap. These are really, really good mics for the price. Fûcking musicians friend won't ship to Canada though, so I'm outta luck.

Very similar to Nile would be and over-statment. Their sound is kinda difficult to put into words. Melodic Atmospheric Eastern Death Grind might work. Imagine the eastern Nile riffing and suffocation styled riffing from the rhythm guitarist, amazingly awe-inspiring melodies from the lead guitarist, blasting cryptopsy-like drums, the best guttural growling vox I have ever heard, plus Evoken-like atmosphere and ambiance. And beautiful, thought-provoking lyrics. That the the incredible being of Lykathea Aflame. There's a clip of Land Where Sympathy is Air in the Jukebox at obscene (www.obscene.cz) , and I could send you a couple more songs through MSN if you like it.

Yes, RC's older material is better, and I don't usually like goth bands...but I like the new Rotting Christ sound as well... I thought Genesis was good. Khronos wasn't bad either... I still haven't heard Dead Poem though. That name makes it sound more goth than goth can be goth though... that's really turns me away from that album.

well...i take lessons once a week so my teacher just shows me new **** every week that i incorporate into music. the secret though is having no life lol. i sit home and play guitar for about 3-4 hours a day at least.

anyway, 2 things i would learn first:

the first octave of the C major scale with 3 note per string notation. also, learn the harmonic minor scale in key of A with 3 note per string notation. then, lock yourself in your room and just practice those patterns over and over and over and over. thats basically what i do. i can elaborate on a ton more **** if youd like me to.

my email is Gpittz@aol.com i can tab out those 2 scales if you need plus anything else you want.

congrats on the X2N pickup, it surely shreds.

Adz2222 - now THAT is stereotyping. not all bands sing about death, from what I remember Open Face Surgery is about reconstructive surgery on the face. about death? no.

as usual, you have only seen the glimpse of Cannibal Corpse on Ace Ventura. Carcass sounded like no-one else, Cryptopsy sound like no-one else, only Angeldeath sound like Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy have a unique sound mainly due to Angela, so do they sound the same? no

It may be cheap as that over there but in the UK you usually have to pay around £17 which is roughly $25.

That is expensive, plus most CDs I'm after cost even more due to there limited availability.

But then Nile came on, and they tore **** up. They played a ****in awesome set. Tony Laureano is such an incredible drummer that its ridiculous. I was kind of dissapointed that they didn't play Unas, Slayer of the Gods, but they played everything else that I could of hoped for. By the way, Jon Vesano was a GREAT replacement for Cheif. 10 bucks?

It may be cheap as that over there but in the UK you usually have to pay around £17 which is roughly $25.

That is expensive, plus most CDs I'm after cost even more due to there limited availability.

I was in the UK this summer, I know CDs are expensive....If you buy at HMV that is.

Kolobos Distro (http://www.deadagain.fsnet.co.uk/kolobos%20cd.htm)

Retribute (www.retributerecords.com) E-mail them for the catalog

Copro Records (http://www.coprorecords.co.uk/mailorder/index.php) They even have Lykathea Aflame!

Supernal (http://www.supernalmusic.com/)

Don't you read your Terrorizer?

Good call Terminal. I never buy from HMV - it's just a rip off! Supernal is great. Kolobos and Retribute are very Grind/Death orientated (I think Kolobos is run by the guy from Gorerotted). Also if you're after demos as well www.goldenlakeprods.co.uk are excellent. And that's aside from them being my band's record label!

For north america, your best options are:

BloodSoaked (www.bloodsoaked.net) If you like Grind/Death Metal, there is no place with better prices, or faster free shipping

Willow Tip (www.willowtip.com) Good selection of Death metal, great deals. They carry Alienation Mental!

Dark Symphonies (www.Darksymphonies.com) Great for Doom and Ambiant, plus good variety of death

Red Stream (www.redstream.org) Great selection of Death Metal, and everything else. Vast selection.

Black Metal.com (www.blackmetal.com) Great selection of Black Metal, along with Death and Grind.

Hell's Headbangers (www.hellsheadbangers.com) Some good prices, but varies. Amazingly selection, and lots of clothes/movies/vinyl too

Laser CD (www.laserCD.com) The less brutal end of the metal spectrum, but great selection and decent prices. Bit more expensive than other, but only by 3 bucks or so.

If there is any Metal CD you can't find on one of those sites, tell me, and I can probably find it somewhere.

yes Wildcat records in York is not bad, but you have to look for ages to find what you want. From their I have bought:

Carcass-Necroticism...
Entombed-Clandestine
Sadus-Swallowed In Black (out of print for ages, if the shop owners knew how rare that cd was they could have charged way more than 7.50).

Well they have a strong base in rock music and they use clean vocals aswell as things that are more prog rock than DM. They are definately in the outer limits of the genre, inside or outside is up to each and his own. I'm not a huge fan so I don't really think alot about it.

I've had an idea.... well actually I've nicked an idea of another forum. Tape trading! Or rather in this day it can be CD-R, Minidisc or tapes. So here's the deal:

First two people to mail me (check the profile!) with their home addresses get an amazing compilation tape or minidisc (sorry I haven't got a CD burner). This is only on the proviso that these two people then make two tapes of their own. They post one tape back to me and the other on to the first person to mail them.

You see! Then all this new music flies around. The rules must be:
1) Only extreme metal allowed - so death, doom, grind etc
2) Tape in this case means CD-R, cassette or minidisc. Let the person know what format you want to do this in.
3) Include an inlay with songtitles
4) Do not tape whole albums - this is for people to hear new music NOT rip off musicians.
5) Use your common sense about who you trade with - Coypu there is not much point you trading with total newbies but I'm sure myself, Corporal Compendia and Terminal Spirit (and others) will have some stuff you'll like.
6) If I get some positive response, I will start a new thread for discussions on this, requests etc. to avoid cloggin this one up.

Fair enough. I tend to go by coach because once you get to Hamburg airport you have to make your way to Itzehoe then find a bus to Wacken. It's not that bad but even though the coach trip is a bit epic (26hrs) it's a lot easier and it's a good laugh as well - a lot of beer and a lot of metal!

Let me know your thoughts!!

Pretty good idea. As soon as I get a burner, count me in. I could buy one today, but I'm not going to.

****ing fawking farrrrrrrrrking HMV!!! They screwed my god **** CD up today! and I didn't realize until I was pretty much home and the place was closed!!!

Today I bought 5 CDs. 4 of which I bought at the HMV.

Strapping Young Lad - Strapping Young Lad
Children of Bodom - Tokyo Warhearts
Anvil - Speed of Sound
Pig Destroyer - Prowler in the Yard
Primus - Pork Soda

HMV screwed up my Pig Destroyer! When I was on the train going home I tried to play my Pig Destroyer CD... but it wasn't Pig Destroyer! There was just a picture on the CD... I didn't know who it was... until I got home. I used music match to find out... it was Yakuza. I've never even heard of them... and I still haven't even bothered to listen to them.. I'm too pissed off to give them a fair chance right now...maybe tomorrow... Since this particular HMV is in another city, I can't go back until Friday... I'm going to call tomorrow, but they better not give me any **** for it. I'll be pissed! Well I already am, but even more so!

Baaaah! At least the other CDs I bought are good. Well not so much the Primus... Pork Soda just doesn't match up to Frizzle Fry or Sailing the Seas of Cheese.

Tapes are welcome. The whole point of this for me is just to get some cool stuff flying around. I'm going to try and make it a nice mix of classic songs and less known stuff - so people could tape me Iron Maiden and I'd be happy but in the same way CSSO or Black Army Jacket is cool too.

look into some Coroner, Rigor Mortis & Dead Horse, they should be in your taste.

slayer arent death metal. slayer is your epitome of a thrash metal band.

if they had growly vocals they would be since their songs are very death metal in structure. So its a close call.
