Burial is great, but I don't think that's what they're really looking for...
Got any fresh Dub reccomendations for me? Still diggin' that Bush Chemists CD.As far as contemporary stuff goes, check out Groundation's Dub Wars. I also highly recommend their reggae albums, all of them (you can start with We Free Again), but this one foray into dub is pretty deep and enjoyable. If you want old-school, get the Lee Perry Arkology compilation at once. It's 3 discs of amazing, bordering-on-ludicrous, Perry-produced brilliance from a bunch of different artists.
Thanks, I have Each One Teach One and Upon The Bridge already and love them. So i'll track down those others.

Ghost - Lama Rabi Rabi
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
I haven't listened to Sufjan since probably early September, but it's such a nice album. :) Albums are the best when you're really way into them for awhile, then you go a couple months without listening, and when you go back, it's awesome.
And Ghost is awesome too. Listen to them if you want cool stuff.

I just realized that the Michio Kurihara from that Boris album is from Ghost. Speaking of japanese bands
King Brothers - 13
This rocks big time. There's a lot less noise than the albums before this and for the most part, it works in their favor. Definitely look out for this if you're into Stooges/MC5-influenced stuff; their earlier matierial if you like Guitar Wolf and the like.

Lotus Crown - Chokin' On the Jokes
Named for an ancient Chinese fable, the orchestral hip-hop band Lotus Crown was the vehicle of singer/guitarist Jimi Shields, a onetime member of the Irish noise-pop outfit Rollerskate Skinny. After exiting the group's ranks following their 1994 EP Threshold, Shields relocated from Dublin to Chicago, stopping briefly to play drums for his brother Kevin's band My Bloody Valentine. After settling in the U.S., he recruited guitarist Paul Dillon, bassist Lennie Dietsch and drummer Zack Kantor, and Lotus Crown soon hit the road in support of the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev before recording their debut EP Alvar Aalto (titled in tribute to the Finnish architect) in late 1995. After entering the studio with producer Dave Fridmann, the quartet emerged with the full-length Chokin' on the Jokes in the spring of 1997.

Gang of Four - Entertainment!
Bauhaus - In the Flat Field
I'm on a post punk kick. I remember when I first discovered post punk - I was a guy who had only ever liked pretty standard punk rock. This stuff blew my mind back then. Post punk and 80s hardcore/alternative, and listening to The Pop Group, Minutemen, The Fall etc, for the first time. I've never really felt as excited by music as I was then. Listening to these reminds me of that feeling.

A lot of Neil Young lately. I've had this David Vandervelde album for a bit so I gave it a spin, too. S'ok, not much worth about it except for "Wisdom From a Tree" which is pretty awesome. What I've been listening to these days...
1. The Frames! Now here we have an Irish band- real big in Ireland, haven't QUITE caught on in the states yet. But I'm sure they will, cuz they're just unbelievable. These guys put so much emotion into their live shows that it's almost frightening to listen to some of ther songs. The words 'bipolar' and 'manic' would immediately come to mind when thinking of the contrast between their peaceful folk rock melodies and the breathtakingly powerful choruses they usually stampede into immediately after- take a listen to this, you'll see what I mean
http://media.putfile.com/GodBlessMom
http://media.putfile.com/WhatHappensWhenTheHeartJustStops
2. Mazzy Star/Hope Sandoval- Hope Sandoval pretty easily lays claim to the title of my favorite female voice. It's just hypnotic to hear her sing, and her blues/folk/rock style is really beautiful. Both her solo work and her work with Mazzy Star is top notch, so go ahead and take a listen
http://media.putfile.com/CryCryCry
3. The Secret Machines are a bit different from the last two bands I posted, and take a more modern approach to their music. The end result is a dense but mellow alt rock sound that really pounds into you with every beat. From a three piece band, the magnitude of their sound is really impressive- these guys are BIG. Here's a song for you
http://media.putfile.com/AloneJealousAndStoned
4. The Brian Jonestown Massacre... now this band, this is easily one of my all time favorite bands. They have a real retro quality to them, like they walked straight out of the sixties. What sets them apart is the fact that they have the advantage of perspective, allowing them to take the 60's psychedelic rock formula, revive it, and then advance the whole genre even further. They are truly brilliant- I've seen them play now three times (and they performed as a guest appearance at yet another show) and each time they have blown me away, either with their antics, with their music, or both.
http://media.putfile.com/Servo-16
5. My Bloody Valentine is a band that took me a little while to get into, but the payoff has been pretty significant- I've listened to their album Loveless probably three times today, and every note is just as good as ever. MBV brings a new element to the psychedelic drone rock scene with a truly indescribable sound that is completely their own. Listening to My Bloody Valentine is equivalent to pressing your fingers over your ears over and over again, as each second it bombards you with a ferociously dense guitar work and their steady, rhythmic, pounding drums.

A lot of the music on this list is brand new and deserves further comment. The new Deerhoof record is AMAZING. I cannot stop listening to it. That's really all I can say about it; it's ineffable, just like any Deerhoof record should be.
The new Andrew Bird is cool, but I'm slightly disappointed. It sounds good, great even, and I was very excited for the first few tracks, especially the recapitulation of "I," but he sort of just made a rock album, which actually, now that I think about it, is pretty cool. It's just not what I'm used to from him.
Lastly, the new Of Montreal record is AWESOME. I've got a whole bunch of their music, and most of it I don't listen to very much at all, but this is so different and SOOOO much better. The beats are way cool, and the arrangements are very interesting, but it's the vocal harmonies that really blew me away. They create a few really incredible moments.
This week's Last.fm is going to be dominated by the new Busdriver record :naughty:. I'll talk about that then.
