I dug it out today for the first time in a few years, and I can't believe how good it is. I never remember it being that good, or even good at all. Then again, since I last listened to it, I've been through a lot and aged a lot. Plus I have a much broader taste now than then. So, yeah, it surprised me.

Also, I've been liking Bright Eyes' new song, Take It Easy. I really hated it a lot the first time I heard it, and I generally don't like Bright Eyes... but it keeps getting played on JJJ and it's grown on me.

My brain has been running a bit musically dry lately, been in a bit of a rut... but tomorrow I'm gonna spend big and get a bunch of CDs, to celebrate getting a new job. And the universe will then be in harmony.

Question for Iai (or anyone else who is an Afghan Whigs fan): What's a good Whigs album to get after Gentlemen?
Depends what you're after.

1965 is basically a soul album. I wouldn't really recommend it; not till you've heard the rest and liked them.

Black Love has more soul influences than Gentlemen, and moves away from grunge somewhat. There's a couple of pretty average tracks, but three tracks (Blame Etc., My Enemy, Faded) are better than most of Gentlemen. I'd say this one.

Congregation, though, is a pure Sub-Pop album. Really grungy, and really punky in places, with a few tracks that show what they'd go on to do on Gentlemen. I like it slightly less than Black Love, but Tangy prefers this to Gentlemen. And it converted Ashtray. :p

My Soulseek is Iai, and I'm sharing both Black Love and Congregation. Feel free to download a couple tracks from both and see for yourself. Or if you were planning to download rather than buy, have them from me. :)

Congregation is the sure bet to buy after Gentleman.

As Iai said, I prfer it to Gentleman - but they're both top albums. The Afghan Whis are so underrated.

If I could buy every album that I want in one go I would. Unfortunately, I'm quite poor and I can't buy heaps of albums.

I'm the same: relatively poor, yet I usually buy a couple of albums per week.

Ya see, there's a correlation between those 2 things...

Lately...

Low - "Christmas EP"
and
Augie March - "Strange Bird"

Strange Bird has been amazing... very interesting and varied music. A fantastic album that should've been brought to the US when it was first released in 2002...
