Meh. There are some great songs like "Salvador Sanchez" and "Gentle Moon" yet the overall product is just boring. I'll have to give it some more listens because this is my first time through.

lovesliescrushing (often misspelled loveliescrushing) is a lo-fi, ambient, noise band, that formed in the fall of 1991 in East Lansing, Michigan and later moved to Tucson, Arizona.Their sound has been compared mainly to that of My Bloody Valentine. Unlike My Bloody Valentine however, lovesliescrushing has a sound less dependent on traditional song structures and vocals. With a penchant for guitar tonality and soft vocals, while burying the result under layers of effects, they combine noise and melody in wondorous ways. The emphasis has always been on texture, hence the unorthodox manner of playing strings with metal, nails, chopsticks, screwdrivers, vibrators, violin bows, to create new tones. They are often accused of using keyboards on their albums, an honest mistake due to the otherworldly sound that they achieve.

Solomon Burke - Nashville
Better than last year's, but still not as good as Don't Give Up On Me, but I'm not surprised at that. There's some good stuff on this, though the duets didn't really make all that much of an impact on me.
Amos Lee - Supply and Demand
Good, but kind of missing something compared to Amos Lee, though I'm not sure what that is. There's a couple of really well-developed pop songs, though. There's nothing like "Black River", "Love in the Lies" or anything, though.
Looking forward to listening to J Mascis and the Fog - Free So Free sometime in the near future, just because of a review on RYM.

I'm listening to Amos Lee right now actually; I've seen you mention him a lot of times but I always associated him with his namesake the leper. More soulful than I'd expected, it's good stuff.
Bartender
11-07-2006, 06:24 PM
Glad you like it (what stuff are you listening to, by the way?). I probably wouldn't have heard of him in the first place though if it weren't for Iai.
EDIT: Now digging Herman's Hermits - Herman's Hermits/Both Sides of Herman's Hermits. Just put it on (three songs in), but is good so far.
Dave de Sylvia
11-07-2006, 06:39 PM
Um, it's a three-song sampler the label set up. It has 'Arms of a Woman' (reminds me a lot of Chris Robinson's 'Safe In The Arms of Love'), 'Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight' and 'Colors.'
Have you ever heard of Foy Vance?

He's a guy, he just has a stupid name. You might like him, he's like folk-rock but a huge bounce of soul; I've been listening to him quite a bit recently.

I hate the cats that live around my house. You can hear them making all kinds of noise at night and it's frustrating because sometimes I like to sleep, but they won't let me!
